  1. Since i do very often some repetitive work where i type also a lot of repetitive words, i already made myself a big list of shortcuts in the iOS ”text replacement” options.. it would be great to integrate all those shortcuts in the AP app for iOS.. so, no new option in AP settings, just to connect the native iOS shortcuts to AP, so AP uses them as well.. and i guess it would be nice also for AD to have the same option (not sure if it already has, i use the app rarely)
  2. make a text character say 48pt make sure the text has fill make the grid spacing 128 division 1 ensure snap is on move text around observe mid points of text bounding box will snap to grid. remove fill from character make the outline stroke 2 pt thick to visualise. move the character around observe bounding box mid points will not snap to grid Expected behaviour = mid points bounding box of text should snap to grid regardless of text filled or not. (sometime just want text with outline)
  3. Hello there, So I'm a website designer, and I would like to design in Affinity Designer more. I found a problem though that is preventing me from doing that full-time...When I export my files to PSD (for handing over to developers) and open them in Photoshop, the text layers appear as image/raster layers and aren't editable. Please help. This is a very important issue for me to resolve. I cannot proceed with using Affinity Designer if our dev team can't edit the texts. Other than this, I am really loving this software. Please help. Thanks, Eli
  4. As it appears to be, tables are treated as independent floating objets, as are images and shapes. Can a table be inserted on a text, so the contents of the table flow through linked text frames? On our workflow is a very regular occurrence, as we do a lot of financial and management reports with large tables spreading through pages that must flow with the text. Also this bring the question about table headers, so the header appears at the start of each page where the table is divided and it seems this option is not available at this moment. This is one of the few things that i could miss from InDesign, as it treat tables as text elements inside text frames (as also does Word and other apps)
  5. The move from beta to open has been very smooth for me... aside from this one issue. Before, when I set text in a cell of a table to be Vertically Aligned Center, it was actually in the center of the cell. Now, it acts like there's 'space after' that it needs to account for. I've checked all my settings and I cannot figure out why it's doing this. I've included examples of the same cell text being aligned top, middle, and bottom. As you can see, the middle is not actually centered, but the top and bottom alignments are fine. I've even checked the text formatting of this cell and I don't see why it should be doing this weird thing with Aligned Center. Any idea what's causing this? My current workaround is manually doing this with cell inset measurements... but some of my cells have more than 1 line of text, so the adjustment has to be made row by row. :-(
  6. I have created a new documet in AP and Placed an image into it. Upon creating text, I find that once exported (.jpeg and regardless of export location) there is digital noise surrounding that text. The only work around I have found is to apply one of the Styles to the background in order to hide that noise, which is not convient for what I want to do. I am working at 1200 px x 628 px, Dpi 72. Which are all pretty standard for web exports. Solution(s)? (See attachment)
  7. Hello there, I want to report a potential bug in the rendering of Khmer script in AP/AD. Using some Khmer fonts, AP/AD render the text incorrectly. Using other fonts, AP/AD render the text correctly. The example below is taken from a screen grab on MacOS in Affinity Photo using an offending font. This screen grab is the same font in Pages on MacOS. It renders correctly: This screen grab is a different Khmer font in Affinity Photo, which renders correctly. Lastly, here are both fonts, both the one that renders incorrectly, and another that renders correctly: http://preahkumpii.com/preahkumpii/misc/ap-khmer-issue/renders-incorrectly-in-ap.ttf http://preahkumpii.com/preahkumpii/misc/ap-khmer-issue/renders-correctly-in-ap.ttf Thanks for your help in looking into this issue. 8. Hi, I am pretty new to affinity designer. It's an amazing tool. I am researcher working with scientific publishing. I prepared an A4 size with multiple figure panels in it. However, some figures show large text labels and some show smaller text labels. Is there a way to select and make all text labels same size at once? This would be really helpful. I edited individual figure labels, but when I came back to A4 sheet, they are not looking in the same size. Also, is there a tutorial dedicated to scientific figure editing/formating using affinity designer? Thank you very much for the help.
  9. It would be great if the Table Text Tool would support pasting of data (they are usually tab separated) from a spreadsheet like Google Sheets oder Microsoft Excel. At the moment this is not possible and leads to a huge amount of work to create e.g. offers. Another, more advanced feature would be to link an existing spreadsheet table or at least CSV data directly to the Table Text Tool. What do you think about it?
  10. I'm currently using the Windows Beta and so far very impressed (definitely going to buy when it's released). I like the fact that 'Paste Inside' is an option like in good old Macromedia Freehand. I have another Freehand feature I'd love to see: Attach Text to Path I know we have the text tool that you can use to click on a path edge and start typing/paste text, but it is so much more intuitive (and quicker) to select existing text and a shape, then just 'Attach Text to Path'. Whilst we're at it, I think a tick box for 'show/hide path' would also be of massive benefit. It feels like unnecessary extra steps to have to clone a path, then flow text around it, then line it up with the original path. This missing feature had always bugged me about Illustrator.
  11. Hello, I'm an old Mac hand, but a newbie when it comes to Affinity. I have some layered Photoshop PSD files consisting of text and textures. Most of my work is in video editing in FCPX. I'm trying to avoid the expensive Adobe licensing fees for PS, because I wouldn't be using it that much. I was really impressed with the intro to Affinity, both proprietary and clips on YouTube; and especially so for the ability to work with PSD files. I've started in on the Affinity tutorials, but so far have not gotten a handle on how to unlock the different layers of the particular file I'd like to change with my text. And it looks like the learning curve is longer than the deadline allotted for the titles. I'd greatly appreciate any help or advice or steps in how to unpack the layers, if possible, and change the texts within. This is the link to the attached PSD file I'd like to edit: old-movie-01.psd. I'm hoping that once I know how to access the layers (again, if possible) I'll be able to take it from there. In any event, thanks very much in advance for your time and consideration! - All the best, David old-movie-01.psd
  12. This is a nightmare. PDF export just mangles all the text - well not all of it, just most of it. Randomly it leaves bits ok even with exactly the same font, styles, colours, weights, and the same master objects applied - you can see in the screenshots one spread in the doc is ok and one is not (most aren;t) . Some headings are ok but body text is mashed. There's no logic to this, nothing consistent about why and how it fails. Publisher came out just in time for me to start these two jobs with a hard print deadline. After 2 - 3 days of arsing about trying to fix this problem after setting 120 pages, I thought I'd finally solved this by stopping using my FontBase font manager, removing all the Montserrat font versions and reinstalling them to system fonts and trying again for the upteenth time. So I started the other doc. But it's back again. The problem is, every time I do this reinstalling fonts process, the document seems to interpret the fonts as new fonts, substituting the old, then I have to go through and set everything again. Like hundreds of Latin names in italic in the body copy I will have to go through and manually do again and again, every time it happens. And many more issues besides will need to be addressed again. This is a real problem. I see someone else has it to - I commented on that thread days back but there's no response on there. This is Windows 10 Pro, Montserrat (Google font) - marked as fully embeddable. I tried turning off the subset option on exports dozens of times and it makes no difference. It's extended this job into days more than it should have been. I really like what you're trying to do with this suite of software but please please please get this sorted - people are trying to produce pro documents for print but we're falling at the last hurdle. It's pretty crashy too but the recovery so far has been reasonably good. Plenty of other niggles with things but the PDF export thing really really needs sorting though. Please can somebody look into this urgently?
  13. I just purchased Affinity Photo and can't wait to ditch my subscription to Adobe CC2018. However, I mostly work with text and am having trouble finding tutorials to answer my questions. First up: how do I create a stroke around text to make the font fatter? Thanks
  14. Is there a way to remove overflowing text from a publication? I am splitting a very large document in chapters by doing a save-as and deleting superfluous pages. But then every last page has a text-frame with overflowing text, containing all the rest of the text...
  15. Hi there! when exporting text with a gradual transparency to *.eps or *.pdf, the export fails and only exports blocks, no text. I tried converting the text to curves, having single text lines (not a big block), ..., but none works. Can someone tell me what's wrong? (using Designer 1.7.1) Thanks a lot! fabius_ original before export: after export to *.eps: it's rasterized and when going to "outline", only blocks are shown: and the image is rasterized (though it shouldn't be):
  16. I've had this issue for several versions now, wondering if it's a problem with the software or if perhaps there's something wrong with my graphics card. Posting here to see if anyone else has had a similar issue. Not always, but every once-in-a-while, I will get slight 'offsets' or skews on screen. The attached screenshot (full-size so that you can see what I mean) shows the breaks (look at the vertical middle of the letters) Usually it goes away if I close Photo and re-start it, which makes me think perhaps it's the software and not my video card, but I am not sure. Another interesting tidbit is that the 'breaks' stay the same when I zoom in (or out) and pan (see second image). Is this a known issue? Or one that other people sometimes encounter? Or is it likely to be my own system? Thanks!
  17. Hi, i'm working in Affinity Photo and, for the first time, the Text Tool add a white bounding box arround the characters. I've check the background text but changing it doesn't solve the problem. How can I remove this white background?
  18. Hello, I couldn't force justifying text to the top of the page... So I tried to apply my "Justifie TOP" master to the last page of the chapter. But that part of text becomes invisible. How do I have to manage this to get the right result? Still would have lots of chapters to arrange that way... Thanks for any hint.
  19. Someone help save my project. I have been building a cookbook for a non-profit. It was being done in InDesign but Affinty Publisher is so much better so I started over. Today I had to add a paragraph of text to it so I did it in notepad then copied and pasted into the Affinity page. Everything is jammed into one column on the right side. This has worked for the past couple of days with once or twice this doing it but it then stopped. I can't see any paragraph or character setting that looks out of whack. Picture attached. This is a time critical project so any help would be appreciated.
  20. Hello , I have realised a problem while exporting text in PDF. When I use some fonts (e.g. Asap Regular), the text is not exported correctly. I have already tried the different PDF-export options and I am still having problems. In the images you can see how the text looks like in Affinity Designer and how it is exported. I have this issue since Affinity Designer version 1.6. Thank you very much! Kind regards, MonsieurMey
  21. Hi. This is getting me nuts and I don't know whats happening. When I copy text from Word and paste it inside a text frame on Publisher, what I get is a bunch of in-line text boxes (One for each original line of text). It doesn't mind if I paste directly or if I use Paste without format. The output is the same. Pasted text is not even in the paragraph style. I don't remember this happening on the betas. Any suggestion will be pretty well received. By the way, I'd love to have a preference setting for "Paste text as without format" on the preference pane so we can optionally use command+v directly without bringing Word garbage and without having to do finger yoga with the keyboard, but that is another story. Mac OS 10.14.5 Word 10.26 Publisher 1.7.2 Tested on different machines, all same output.
  22. InDesign has a feature in setting that I love and use so much. Is the options to paste text from external apps without format. I know that you can do a paste without format, but with this option active, all text coming from external apps pastes as basic pure and pristine text by default, with the old, trusty command+v. Not every one need this, some wants to have all the bold, cursives, tabs… but on some works, you need to get ride off all of incorrect formating, and, in my case, almost all of my work consist on eliminating customers format (people love to use bold and cursives and colors freestyle with no criteria). To get your text pasted directly without formar and without having to do finger yoga to use command+alt+caps+v is a desirable option. This option, on InDesign, is in the settings pane, under the pasteboard managing section (When pasting text and tables from other apps). As is an option, is there for the ones who needs it only.
  23. Hello I exported an affinity file as PSD. I opened it with photoshop cs6 and tried to edit the text. It seems i can't edit the text as it was not exported as editable text. Same was the case for import but it was solved from Preference option. Is there a way to export text as text for PSD? Most of my client will not PSD export as they don't have AD.
  24. I am in the midst of creating a multi-page test document and I am stumped trying to find a paragraph rules option. Is such an option available in the Beta? If so, where can I find it? Otherwise I really do hope it will be included in a future update.
