  1. Hi Text used in symbols is not printed correctly. The space between the letters is messed up. It looks fine on the screen. Using the same font in a text block works fine. When I export the file as a PDF the text is not readable anymore. See attached photo/screenshots Thanks for help
  2. Hey guys, Does anyone know if Photoshop 2017 can open svg text as editable text? I really hate Photoshop, I really love Affinity, but I still need some way to provide psd files to some of my clients. So I noticed that if I export text as SVG from Affinity, I can keep it as text, and if I inspect it in any browser, I will get the exact info of the font ( font family, size, color, weight, style, line heights, everything). Can I import such a SVG containing text into Photoshop 2017 and see it as editable text in Photoshop? Did anyone try this? I would pay like an idiot for a Photoshop license monthly just for that, and that will make me hate Photoshop even more
  3. Friends Sometimes exporting a project to SVG results in errors in the resulting file, so when those files are reopened in AfDesign some text disappears or is transparent, or the like. Attached original file and error file.... Help Logo Toledo 2018 30.afdesign Logo Toledo 2018 30e.svg
  4. Hi there, Have recently created a document on Affinity Designer with various text boxes and images throughout for a brochure. I have since saved the document as a PSD and PDF but when I re-open the PSD in Designer my text boxes are now "Pixel" layers and I can't seem to find a way to be able to edit them. I can see a way that I can re-select the text tool to add to the end, or type over my current text (in another layer), but I cannot "edit" the text box that was originally created? Would really appreciate the help with this, Thank you
  5. Letters with a round form should extend past the grid line (see 2.png for correct alignment). AD aligns the rounded forms to the baseline instead (3.png). Grid 8 / 2 Text field height: 24 Leading/Baseline: 16 (illustrator) -4 (AD) I might be doing it the wrong way, so if there's another way of doing it, let me know.
  6. [in this post, I'm guessing the English on-screen text, because I'm using the German version of Affinity Designer 1.5.2.58 on a German 64-bit Windows 7] Strange behaviour 1 (text baseline): The 'Edit text style' dialog doesn't immediately transfer its baseline settings to the selected text. Try the following: Create a new document with a block text containing one paragraph spread over two lines, format this text with the paragraph style 'Heading 1', and keep the block text object selected. In the text styles palette, right-click on 'Heading 1' and choose 'Edit Heading 1' to show the 'Edit text style' dialog. In 'Position and transformation', change the kerning or character distance in permille. The selected text block immediately reacts and shows the desired changes. Wonderful - that's what should happen. Now change the baseline. Nothing appears to happen. Only when additionally changing kerning or character distance (or anything else), the changed baseline settings become visible in the text object. Sometimes, even kerning or character distance changes in one direction (with the up/down arrows) don't do the trick, but one needs to change these in one and the other direction to make it work properly. Set the baseline to a negative value for the time being (e.g., -24pt), ensure that the -24pt baseline is really working properly, and close the dialog with 'OK'. Strange behaviour 2 (text baseline): The 'Edit text style' dialog transfers the current text's baseline into its edit fields with the wrong sign. Try the following: Right-click on 'Heading 1' in the text styles palette, and choose 'Edit Heading 1' to show the 'Edit text style' dialog again. Though the baseline was previously set the minus 24pt, the edit field now shows a positive 24pt. Changing kerning now by some reason keeps the text's negative baseline intact, though a positive baseline is shown in the edit field. When changing the positive '24pt' baseline to '23pt' with the up/down arrows, nothing seems to happen (see above). Changing kerning additionally now makes the baseline jump from the previous -24pt to a real +23pt. Closing the dialog with 'OK' and opening it again now shows a negative 23pt baseline where a positive one should be shown. Change the baseline to zero and make sure changes are accepted to avoid this confusion for now, and close the dialog with 'OK'. Strange behaviour 3 (distance correction): Try the following: Open the dialog again. Note that the baseline is now displayed as minus 0pt, but we will ignore that... The 'distance correction' (or whatever it is called in English) below the baseline is now shown as '0pt', and the two-line text object looks 'normal'. Changing the '0pt' to '1pt' and back again to '0pt' makes the two text lines completely overlap each other, so that the text is unreadable. Changing the distance correction to 'auto' resolves that problem and makes the text appear 'normal' again. It appears that the default setting for the distance correction is 'auto', but that is not what is displayed when opening the dialog. Instead, an apparently wrong '0pt' is displayed, which leads to confusion. Sometimes, after changing the distance correction to some undesired point value, choosing 'auto' from the drop down combo does not transfer 'auto' into the edit field, but leaves the previously entered point value in it, creating additional confusion. Sometimes, even manually typing 'auto' into the edit field and pressing RETURN throws away the manually entered 'auto' text and replaces it by the previously entered point value, making it impossible to ever get the automatic spacing again... Strange behaviour 4 (font attributes): Try the following: Now show the dialog page where one can select the font family and choose a family that has several attributes available, e.g., regular, bold, italic and bold-italic. The font attributes are still set to 'No change'. Now set the font attributes to 'Regular', switch to the dialog page 'position and transformation' (without changing anything there) and back to the page 'font'. Now, the attributes previously set to 'Regular' appear as 'No change' again. For the second time, switch to the dialog page 'position and transformation' (without changing anything there) and back to the page 'font'. Now, the attributes display as 'Regular'. Very confusing... Over the weeks of using that dialog, I found even more than the above confusing things with it, which I just didn't care to put into writing. Anyway, this dialog seems to be quite confusing and unreliable to me, with lots of strange side effects that make predicting its outcome rather difficult... Andreas Weidner
  7. OK I am able to type text on path. All fine and good. My problem is the direction of the text on the path. When I type I would like the text to flow from left to right and at moment its going in the opposite direction as noted by the image I have attached... I imagine I will feel silly when someone explains what it is that I have done.
  8. Right now both Artistic and Frame text tools mishandle Thai language text. Thai has a number of glyphs that go over or under the preceding glyph, like these two which spell the word duu, meaning to look: ดู In Designer, typing those two characters gives ด ู, which is an unreadable garble. Bizarrely, Affinity Photo handles Thai artistic and frame text okay, so the workaround isn't a hard one. But why make any workaround necessary?
  9. I have imported a PDF into Affinity Designer (version 1.60) from a scientific program wherein text is oriented in a circular pattern around a central region (se attached screen shot). The import (or just opening the PDF) works fine and each scientific name is enclosed in a text box. However, when I go to select a text box sometimes it selects the correct text box, but more often it selects one that is >2 text boxes away. I can select each text box in the layers, but I do not understand why I can't do it with the cursor or text tool. I have attached a screen shot of what I mean. The black arrow shows the text box that I was trying to select with the cursor, the red arrow shows the text box that was actually selected. I don't know if this is a bug or just something peculiar with the PDF file. Any help appreciated.
  10. I'm just working my first half an hour with Affinity Designer, but I'm just missing an option to divide floating text into two or more columns. This should be made possible either with combined textframes, paragraph style or textframe options.

    Cannot Edit Text

Hi there, So I was working on a project with text overlaying the photo. It was working for a while and then all of the sudden it would NOT let me edit the text. It kept selecting the bottom layer. Is this a glitch? I have tried everything. Locking the other layers. Selecting the Frame Text Tool. Nada
  12. Hi, What is the difference between TEXT HEIGHT and LEADING OVERRIDE? And why don't 2 lines of text overlap when the text height/leding override is zero? It works very different from photoshop/fireworks. Thanks, Chris
  13. I would like to know how to make sure that the text I place will be a vector. How may I ensure that the text is a vector? Thanks.
  14. In PS, I have a one key action that inserts a text layer that I use as a watermark on photos that I post. I can have over 50 files so this is useful. I tried making a macro in Affinity and got the notice that: "Cannot record "add a frame text" My workaround is to create an Affinity file with the text layer and copy and past that layer but that involved more keystrokes. Any chance you developers are working on this?
  15. Hi there! I googled a bit but i couldn't find a proper answer... Is there a way to make the top of the text to fit on a path? Here i found a tutorial for mine same problem but it's for Illustrator -> https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/19589/make-top-of-type-sit-on-path-illustrator Thanks for the support!
  16. Hi, Even if I use the whole pixels options, this sometimes fails, and I found some patterns: 1. For text for example, if you enter the font size, the width/height/x/y become decimals. This only happens for the ARTISTIC TEXT TOOL, not the FRAME TEXT TOOL. 2. When resizing an object either by hand, while holding down SHIFT, or when entering a WIDTH or HEIGHT value and having the "lock aspect ratio" enabled. That also results in decimals. It's really annoying for web, where you have whole pixels. Whole pixels is extremely important when working on something for the web, where everything has to be pixels perfect. Thank you, Chris

    Designer | Guideline display bug

The gist of it is no matter what document I'm in (including a brand new file) whenever I use the ARTISTIC text tool, all my guides disappear. This doesn't happen with the frame text tool. I can switch between them and see it happen with artistic and not happen with frame. To get the guides back, I've got to switch to another tool and select another shape. I'm attaching a short video for clarity. In case it's important, all these documents have artboards in them. I pretty much exclusively use artboards. I've got no idea what's up with this but for some reason I started experiencing this today. I'm nearly positive it's localized to my home machine (I'll test tomorrow at the shop) but I would like to log it just in case. I know this wasn't happening yesterday, or even earlier today, on this machine. Ninja Edit: I just noticed that deleting guides from the Guide Manager is super glitchy. Even when I make the guides visible again, the trashcan won't activate unless I create another guide (or drag one in). I'm also seeing negative guides persist (i.e., off the artboard), which isn't something I remember happening before. Stuff I've done: Reset ALL user settings (holding ⌃ while launching Designer) Deleted/reinstalled app Looked for all pref files and deleted them Restarted a few times After all this, I tried with a number of different documents & saw the same behavior I also created new blank docs & saw the same behavior I know I'm missing a pref file somewhere because Designer knows what my previously opened files were, but I haven't spent a ton of time to locate anything but the low hanging fruit. My guess is if someone knowledgeable can tell me where ALL Designer files live this issue will be resolved… Thanks ahead of time, Scott UPDATE 171227: I installed the beta hoping this issue would be cleared up, and it was. So either there's an actual bug in the App Store version, or I've got a corrupted pref file that I can't find. I would really appreciate it if a mod or someone knowledgeable can respond to this with the locations of all pref files so I can test my theory out. 19. Hi all, More than likely very simple but has left me losing hours All I need to know is how to convert my text to a path so that I can for example place my text on a circle or arch... Many thanks in advance JP
No video shows the use of text, nor the possibilities of selecting it or working with it. For example, now I want to select a text and the text shows a photo that is in a lower layer. I would appreciate the explanation.
  21. Version 1.5.2 Windows Not able to find the Character Panel from the Studio View even after Checked and Unchecked. Still does not solve the issue...? Pls anyone can respond..?
  22. I don't remember this before in previous versions so trying to understand if this is a bug or how to turn off, but there's a light red stroke or outline on my text.
  23. This is literally the best title I could come up with. I would like to shape my text like this: So starting small at the start, enlarging it to the middle and going back to small at the end. Is this possible without destroying the text layer into a curves group? Or what might be the most efficient way to do this in affinity designer?
  24. Hi all, I'm struggling to get to grips with the alignment options in Affinity Designer for text elements. The space vertically option spaces them out based on the pixel bounds, not the baselines. This results in text that is unevenly spaced if some have descending/ascending characters. I have attached a (very rough) image that shows the behaviour from Illustrator (yep, sorry about that) and the same setup in Designer. The left text is pre-alignment, the right is post. As you can see, Illustrator spaces out the baselines (as you would want for text), and Designer works off the pixel bounds giving an unnatural spacing. I've tried playing around with the text baseline settings, and all of the options on the alignment menu but it has me stumped. I'm very new to Designer so I'm probably missing something obvious, hopefully someone can point out what it is! Thanks, Barry
