  1. Hi, I do lot of type work in Affinity Designer so I want some option by which I can easily change the case of the text. Its already present in Publisher.
  2. I've moaned before about Publisher lacking a built-in text editor, but as I am going to try to use this programme for real in 2021, I'm looking for solutions. I Googled to find simple, preferably free or cheap, text editors and have come up with Rough Draft. What has impressed me so far about it is that, although it looks a bit old-fashioned, it does seem to have the features an Editor might want and not be just a poor-man's Word. It also works natively in RTF file format, which is a match. Does anyone else have experience of this programme or alternatives? Also, if there are any tips on exporting OUT of Publisher back to RTF, I would be obliged. Hope you are all getting by OK or better in 2020.
  3. The "Apply [stylename] and..." options in the Text Styles panel include one that clears text formatted via character style. There doesn't seem to be an option that clears text formatted by hand—"hard" formatting, without use of a named character style. I've tried all of the options to see what they would do and none clears that kind of local formatting. Does Publisher have any other command (after the fashion of MS-Word's and other programs' Control+Spacebar) that returns highlighted text to the current paragraph style's default underlying characteristics?
  4. There's a thread here about searching and replacing text that includes the following suggestion: To find and delete text, select "regular expression" In the text within the Find field, don't use parens. Use "\1" alone in the Replace field. This does work. For example I had ;h2\s+ for the "find" expression and "\1" alone for the replacement. All occurrences of ";h2" followed by 1+ space(s) were deleted. Yes, it works, but it seems like a bit of a hack. So... • Is there another approach to execute a global find-and-delete operation throughout a long collection of text in linked text frames? In nearly all of the word processors and text editors I've used, an empty replacement field means: "delete." Is there some reason it shouldn't also mean "delete" in Publisher? (Not meant as a rhetorical question.) • I found that with the cursor at the start of the text, sometimes pressing the Find button caused the cursor to advance to the first "found location," and sometimes the cursor remained at the start of the text. This appears intermittent and I can't predict when it will happen. I'm assuming it is a bug. If it isn't a bug, what would the reason be for the "variable" behavior?
  5. Hello, I was able to successfully open a PSD file but when I click on the text, nothing happens. I can't edit it. In Photoshop, I simply can click on the text and edit. Why am I unable to do the same thing in Affinity? I'm using a trial version. Thank you, John
  6. Hi, I’m pretty sure I’m missing something obvious, but how do you exit the text editing mode without having to switch tools in Affinity Designer ? In Photoshop cmd + return will do this, but in AD it converts the text to curves (witch leads to numerous errors on my part. So much that I now have changed the shortcut). If there is a way I would love to hear about it otherwise, I would love to see this added.
  7. Can't seem to get letter spacing (kerning) to become active regardless of font used. The drop-down menu shows either 'auto' or '0%' as active, with all other available spacing options (i.e., -5% etc) greyed out. To replicate, type some text, then select Text->Show Character (or CTRL+T), and try to enter a value to adjust kerning (top left box under 'Positioning and Transform').
  8. I’ve been using the beta to put together some rough concepts for a booklet cover design, and I’ve encountered a bug where selecting text with the art text tool no longer allows me to adjust text settings from the dropdown boxes in the top menu. In the image you can see I’ve selected some text which is all the same font, size and weight, but the font and weight fields are empty. Each field now has different behaviour: I can click on the font dropdown, and if I select a font the text will change to this new font. The first time the font is changed the field remains blank, but after selecting a font a second time the fields all revert to normal. I cannot click on the font weight dropdown at all. It also seems that the text size dropdown never actually works – I have to manually type in a text size at all times. The live preview works while mousing through the text size options displayed, but after clicking it just reverts back to original size. This is on Designer beta 1.1.2.23562 running on OS X 10.10.2, on a 2011 iMac 27". I believe I might have encountered these bugs in Photo beta as well, on my 2013 rMBP 13". I don’t know how to reproduce this bug unfortunately, although the font size dropdown is constant – I’ve attached a screen recording demoing the issue. affinity fontsize bug.mov
