  1. Is there a way to click on an object within your artwork and have the swatches palette show you which color is actively selected? I want to build out a colors list and then know which color I’m working with when I select an object I’ve added to my artwork. I use a collection of Montana spray paints and need to know which colors to buy after I’ve designed the artwork.
  2. Hi Affinity Team, It would be great to have Global Colours available in Layer Effects. For example when adding outer glow, I often use the same colour as the object on which I am applying the effect (e.g: outer glow) but it doesn't automatically change with the colour of the object, neither does it change when I update the Global Colour which I selected to apply to the effect (e.g: outer glow). In fact selecting a Global Colour in the colour palettes of Layer Effects is not available. It's a big waste of time when I have to go back and manually change the colour of the glow (or outline, shadow, overlay, gradient...) because I decided to change a Global Colour.. Thanks !
  3. Small cosmetic item: The help system shows the Swatches Panel with two ICONS of traditionally-shaped painter's palettes - one for current color and another for current fill. Using 1.7.2 on Mac OSX 10.13.6. Instead of the traditionally-shaped palettes, there are two "strange" box-like icons. They function, but it took me a bit of close looking to finally realize that these had been substituted for the painter's palettes. I like the palette shapes much better than the square boxes. I suspect that this is a small cosmetic inconsistency with the program icons/help system.
  4. I have a large document and a number of swatches that I use. I have the "palette" set to the document I'm working on. The palette is large with some 40+ swatches (some of which I don't recognize as having used them). I would like to know how to force AFPUB to save the swatches I have used over time on the document. I keep running into a missing swatch (where one object stroke or fill has that color, and I'd like to copy that color, but that swatch is not shown in the list of swatches). This forces me to use the HSL codes to manually re-create the swatch. However, eventually, that or another swatch won't be in the list when I need it. I suspect user knowledge is the problem, not necessarily a bug.
  5. i have followed an AP tutorial on how to create swatches by: Create a palette from Image, Location: Application. Working on Mac with a Wacom tablet. I need them for color grading. I have created quite a few of them but not sure how I can show up in the swatch panel. The search tool does not shows them up. I can see some in a window (see enclosed screen shot) but when I try to search for them nothing happens.
  6. Following an AP tutorial I have created my own swatches. I use 5 colours palette that to my judgment correspond well to what i see in the original (template) image. If this is not a case, the 5 colour palette by AP is incorrect, I create a swatch again with a higher number of colors and make my selection to limit them to again 5. When color grading with 5 colours I add 5 colours from the swatch palette very carefully by ensuring that the Location value on color grading scale matches the Lightness (L) value of the color an indicated in a window for color picker. When I copy the colour palette from the swatch and apply it to my own image the result is different as regards tonality. Some additional adjustments are needed to match my image with the template. However, it is almost never the same. Is it what correct? Using swatches for color grading does not guarantee that the image that is edited will match the template and there might be differences?
  7. If an object from one document has a linked global color and we copy that object and then paste it into another document the global color should also come with it (or have the option to do so) and be added in the other document's swatches
  8. So not sure how this is not done right in Affinity's programs. Global Swatches, are only in document, not available in application swatch palettes! I work in a high volume, fast paced shop, we have a number of what we would call basic or default colors we use in designing, and then tweak them from there. I have always been able to set up a swatch book in Indesign and use that swatch in all my work as a base. While Affinity has that feature as an application swatch, the colors once applied to items do not not retain any connection to the item as they should so color can be adjusted once for all items in the document that use that swatch, this is only available as a Global Color and will only work in a Document Palette, which I would have to rebuild every time. So while I really like Publisher in a lot of ways this is a really crimp on my movement away from Adobe, and is right up there with no step and repeat function (power duplicate is not the same thing) and not opening Indesign files (I know that is more difficult, but Quark can do it, so it is possible). I am also at a loss as how to get all my prints from printing so dark, no color management settings seem to change anything and all my photos come out extremely dark, but only when printed in Affinity Publisher, any other program prints perfectly.
  9. I just came across a most perplexing limitation: I've created two document palettes, let's call them A and B On palette A I've created a swatch named ColourPink Then I went to palette B and also tried to create a swatch called ColourPink Affinity Designer tells me the swatch name is already in use so I can't use it again... Well... I guess that's technically true, but what's the point of having two separate palettes if they're not completely independent? My request is to make palettes completely independent so we can have multiple swatches with the names. Thanks!
  10. A lot of users, myself included, often create custom brushes and assets to use with Affinity Apps. With the release of Affinity Publisher (especially with StudioLink) I find it quite tedious to install the newly created brushes and assets individually into every app since I do switch between them quite regularly and need all my tools available. It would be really nice that when you install/delete assets and brushes in any one of the Affinity apps that they are automatically loaded/available/updated in the other apps. Example scenario: As an illustrator, I often create new custom brushes for projects. If I created a custom raster brush in Photo, but then needed to switch to Designer for vector work, I'd need to open Photo, save the brush, open Designer and then load the new brush in the Pixel Persona. Then when I switch to Publisher for layout, I would need to switch to the Photo Persona via StudioLink and reload the brush there too if I wanted to do a few finishing touch-ups. If I then made a few small tweaks to the brush, perhaps some small improvements (such as tweaking the pressure curve for the size jitter), I would need to repeat the entire process all over again. The same goes for Assets, and more. It can quickly become very time consuming. It would be incredibly useful to have a universal folder where the brushes/assets are stored so that they automatically update across the board when you customise or add them. Obviously this wouldn't be applicable on iPad, but I think it would be incredibly innovative and useful on desktop, and a huge time saver in anyone's workflow. That way you'd only need to load, say, a raster brush once in Photo, and then automatically have it available in Designer's Pixel Persona and Publisher's Photo Persona. Same goes for vector brushes, assets, macros, swatches, styles, etc.
  11. I like to work with a list of swatches and give all colors/swatches my own name. But with long lists it takes a long time to rename all swatches the way the interface is build now (look at video below). What we have to do rightnow for all items in the swatches list, each time to rename: Rightclick a swatch Move the mouse to the right where a menu popped up on a different location, move to the 'Rename Global Color' (or normal color) menu-item and click Move the mouse to the input dialog which is on yet another completely different screenlocation so we have to move the mouse all over to the left We need to click the inputfield first and select the text in it to overwrite it Type the new name Click on OK or press enter-key to confirm This is a pretty inefficient workflow when renaming a full list of swatches (or styles), it takes way too many steps and we have to move the mouse all the time and switch between keyboard and mouse. What I would like to do instead: Two clicks on the swatch so the swatch-textlabel changes into an input field in which the current name show and is already selected to overwrite Enter the new name Press enter or tab to confirm So no more mouse moves from right and than completely to the left, just two clicks on the same location and the rest typing in and confirming with the keyboard. Not sure why Serif has chosen a completely different (and much more inefficient) UX approach for the swatches and styles panels compared to renaming the layers in the layers panel. I don't understand, because the layers-panel has such a nice and proven fast workflow to rename items which most people understand intuitively and already use in other software too. So please make renaming swatches and styles the same as renaming in the layers panel! That would speed up the workflow so much and makes the repetitive task of renaming items so much more efficient. Thanks! Compare this (renaming swatches and styles how it is now)...: renaming-swatches-takes-a-long-time.mp4 To this... (renaming layers, like how swatches and styles could have the same UX): renaming-layers.mp4
  12. Ability to apply colour swatches to layer effects, such as the pictured Colour Overlay. Right now you can only use sliders and wheels on these. This is particular useful when used in conjunction with global colours. You can apply a global colour to a large number of layer effects, and change every single of them instance just by editing the global colour. I use this a lot in illustration, rather than paint any drawing in it's 'final colour', I have the brush set to black and the layer with a colour overlay effect attached to a global colour. If I later want to change the illustration colour I just edit the swatch. Thanks!
  13. I am looking for a way to set the colour name automatically based on colour value in Affinity Designer. When you change a colour value in a Indesign document, it automatically changes the colour name accordingly within the swatches window. It's a huge timesaver. When you add a colour to the swatches panel, Affinity applies the colour value name. However when I change a existing colour within the swatches panel, it shows the previously colour value. It looks like I have to manually change the colour value. How can I do that in Affinity Designer or Affinity Publisher?
  14. I'm preparing to remove all Adobe products from my system. I wanted to know if there are any presets from Photoshop that I should keep because they can be used by Affinity Photo. I understand that Adobe brushes can be installed in Affinity Photo, but I'm not absolutely certain. Are there any other parts of Photoshop I should save for use in Affinity Photo? Thanks in advance.
  15. I want to see improvements for the panel swatches. It is very useful to see its numeric value next to the color name in the current color mode.
  16. Doesn't seem to be possible - or am I just being stupid …? Also could there be a way - if there isn't already to layer shapes on top of a photo…? I'm redecorating my bedroom at the moment and I've laboriously converted all the colours I'm considering into RGB and Hex values, I just need a way of playing around with them. I don't see any way of adding additional swatches to a palette (it is almost 03:30 though, but I do better at night). Yes, I know that screen colours are not going to be the same as the actual paint (wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a way of reconciling them somehow, some kind of intermediary colour space).I've already found that one green I was considering was far bluer 'in the flesh' than it was on Dulux's website.
  17. Hello, I’ve searched through existing posts (see short list below) but it’s not clearly stated if those requests have been added to the development list or out of consideration. (They don’t appear to be reflected in the roadmap unless I’m missing a reference.) Is it possible to get clarification as to whether Affinity has plans to support: Ability to import Photoshop and Illustrator 'Preset' files / styles: Most Important:Gradients: .grd file extension Styles: .asl file extension Patterns: .pat file extensionIncluding preset pattern fills (related post by someone else is referenced below) Moderately important but could live without:Color Swatches: .aco file extension Custom Shapes: .csh file extension I have a huge library of the above (gradients, styles, and patterns in particular) that I'd rather not lose (or have to recreate) by switching to Affinity Designer. Somewhat-related forum posts: Import .ase and .aco files: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/1483-import-palette…-importing-ase-and-aco-files/ Import Photoshop and vector brushes: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/532-import-photoshop-and-vector-brushes/ Vector pattern fills, custom vector brushes, dotted lines: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/1913-vector-pattern-fills-custom-vector-brushes-dotted-lines/ (This one in particular, it’s stated that vector pattern fills are not yet in the roadmap; does that mean that it’s out of consideration, or just that it’s not coming in the near future?) Thank you for any clarification you can provide. Regards, --S
  18. Affinity Photo: How to Reset Color Swatches Palette to default? In Swatches Affinity Color Palette Gray I've added Swatches. After doing that I don't seem to see a way to reset it back to the default Grey Swatches. How would I do that?
  19. Affinity Photo Reset individual included Swatches to Default. For example one may want to reset Greys or Colors or Gradients to default after adding those that you no longer need.
  20. Could we please have a tint slider in Swatches in addition to opacity.
  21. I keep color swatch books for all my clients. Coming from Adobe, I can just create a swatch collection for each client and upload to Creative Cloud. Then when I need to work on something for that client I simply load their folder and have all my swatches ready to use. I thought I could do the same thing with Affinity's Palette system, but I am running into issues. In order for a Palette to be available to all Affinity programs, I have to make System Palettes. It works, except when it comes to saving Spot colors (I need a set of Pantone colors). When I try to save a Pantone swatch in the System palette, the swatch gets saved to a new Document palette instead. This does me no good because next time I start a new document, I have to go looking for all the swatches. Furthermore, I cannot make them Global. Am I missing something? Or will I have to create an Application palette each time and export that to import into the other 2 programs every time? That will get annoying if I have to update their color schemes down the road.
  22. Dear Team! So far, I do love your apps :-) One thing I would love to see is a common color swatch/palette management. In other words, having one common color palette database used by all the programs would help to keep consistency. Maybe that's somehow possible in future versions. Cheers, Chris
  23. Hope AD will provide vector based pattern | swatches. I like my fills sharp and crisp.
  24. Hi, I'm new to Affinity, enjoying it a lot, still much to discover. Is there a shortcut to reset the black and white swatches? cheers Geoffrey
  25. Why is it the set of colors different from the layers panel to the options bar?
