  1. I have grown to like many of the features of Affinity Designer (and Photo and Publisher). And I think that the interface has improved (or I have gotten more accustomed to it). But... I still am not a fan of the flatness of the UI elements. I think a 3d-look is more usable. (Even Microsoft has found its way back to a more 3d-oriented UI with Office 2019, compared to Office 2016 which was very flat.) For example I think that studio palettes should have drop shadows like for example the tools palette has, when it is not docked. And I think that each palette should have some kind of border or some other way of showing what belongs to it and what not. I can work much better if I can quickly and easily see what belongs to a particular palette and I do not have to take a second look or look very carefully. That is particularly important when many palettes are grouped so that they appear as tabs. A 3d-UI-look could make it immediately clear what is a tab, what is the active tab (i.e. active palette), what is a subgroup inside the palette and where the next tab/palette group starts. Also I think that the page should have a border (and/or a small dropshadow) so that one can make the artboard white as well without losing the information where the page starts and ends. For comparison: 1) This is the current UI in Affinity Publisher: 2) This would be the UI with drop shadow (rough sketch):
  2. Hello I would like to see an export pdf option to seperate pdfs for each page. I know there are free tools for it to split the pdf afterwards, but I think it would be nice in one step. What do you think?
  3. Thank you very pretty powerful search/replace feature, changing from paragraph break to line break is pretty easy. Can we add an option to limit the search to given element, instead of the whole document? I'm thinking of options: * Selection * Text element * Page * Whole document
  4. Open PDF + All pages or a range of pages of a PDF get its own page in Publisher + Instantly editable - No Master Pages available (of course) Place PDF - All pages are loaded, no range selection possible. You have to duplicate the pages to switch between pages of PDF - Extra step with Edit Document to work on the content of the PDF + Apply Master Pages to existing pages My workflow: I receive a multipage PDF document where I have to do some massive changes. So I have to decide now, whether I copy and click every single page of the PDF or open the PDF and add Master Pages later. So I kindly ask for options during import: Option 1: Leave PDF as is, treating as an image Option 2: Importing PDF (full or range) being instantly editable with no Edit Document-button (or make it a choice on the user)

    bugs and suggestion

I found 2 bugs today but I'm not sure if this is already reported. The first bug was as I created a second window with "new view" as I wanted set it to full-screen on my second monitor the window goes white and didn't show anything. The second bug I got is with the pen tool if I TAB out sometime it creates a random point on the artboard and sometimes it doesn't want to make points after I TAB back in. Overall I like affinity designer but why it always jumps back to the artboard and doesn't want to stay in the group I created, so I need to bring all parts manually back into the group I created before. This can be really frustrating if you have other parts outside the group and doesn't know now with parts belongs to the group.
  6. Hey there, I have some suggestions to add to the next update of affinity designer. Since i used to use there tools on Illustrator and there isn't no workaround to get the same effects...Here is the suggestions to add to the next update. Tools: image tracing distort warp text Thank you very much.
  7. When rotating a frame using any of the Move or frame tools and a mouse, a measurement of the degree of rotation pops up so you can see how much the frame has rotated. It is very difficult to get to an exact number of degrees just using the mouse to do the movement especially when the frame is small. What would be very useful is to be able to manually edit the measurement - to enter in the exact value you want. Perhaps something along the lines of double-clicking when the rotate (curved arrow) is showing to pop up a manually entered degree value. Most applications use that approach when a "fine-tuning" is helpful to the user.
  8. We may have discrete Sections available as Fields but running footers/headers making use of specific paragraph types (i.e. Heading 1, which might have Flow break to the top of the next page). Ideally, we could configure which paragraph styles are accessible in View > Studio > Fields. My suggestion would be to have it user-configurable from right-click the "Edit <Paragraph Style>" Paragraph > Field Options Available as Field? First or last available? On Page or Spread? (see relevance of first/last in previous question) This would make for some really robust footer/headers on master pages, esp. in education or technical materials with dense, structure order to their contents, allowing us to guide the read through. The Field referencing the other Paragraph style occurring in the main document could be styled by any existing paragraph style as expected.
  9. Hey guys, One thing that keeps bugging me when I open a project that I'm working on is that the first thing I have to do is switch to the respective Document Palette from the Default Palette. Wouldn't it make more sense for a document to remember this and just select the last Document Palette you used (in case you have more than one) when opening a .afdesign file? Or at least give us an option in the Palette menu to set that Document Palette as default for that specific document. This would be nice as well. What do you think? Thanks in advance, Cristian
  10. Hello, I have a suggestion for the forums. How about adding a ": "(colon and a space) after Location info or simply removing the text "Location" from the post/comment author pane. Its really annoying(I hope many would have felt the same). Current issue: My suggested change would be: Thanks!
  11. Hello, Today i have installed Affinity Publisher and first of all I have compiled my worklow as far as possible. But it is not possible. I had hoped the many suggestions (earlier for AP and AD) would have had an effect. But nothing at all has done. The possibility to create, organize and save your own workflow is extremely important to me. And also the lateral docking is still not possible. I have opened 7 to 10 programs at times. And again and again a fragment of affinity lies in between and disturbs the complete working process. Really embarrassing. Sorry. I just can't understand it. It doesn't have to be as perfect as in Capture One Pro :-) Maybe that doesn't interest most people at all. But me very much. Publisher uninstalled! Thanks for trying out a minute
  12. Hello Everyone ! Would ask for more Non-Destructive capabilities to be added to Affinity Photo. There are great initiative taken with certain tools using a blank pixel layer but i believe more needs to be implemented and documented. i'm first thinking about : The Tone Mapping Persona: this is a great place for making our work better but it's only works in a destructive way (maybe i don't how to do it) but it would be great if a tone map can be added to a mask or a blank pixel layer then we can chose from there to map only a certain area/object etc of our photo/picture/ Development Persona: Great place to spend time working on better picture but also everything there is destructive, here i propose that one applied, our development to appears on sub or top layers similar to filter or mask or whatever dev's may find then from there we can mask this or that or simply make it possible continue where we left it in case we click the development persona again. Same thing should be applied to Liquify persona too. in fact, more Non-Destructive is okay and will be well received. if anyone knows how to do deep Non-Destructive works and/or know where to find tutos that talks about, please share ! Blessings !
  13. Hello everyone ! Today i want to ask a question that can lead to something interesting for the Affinity suite (Publisher - Designer and Photo). Well, we have all seen the recent updates and some brought satisfaction when other just brought tears but ... that's not my point here ! Just wanted to know : How will you feel if Serif comes up with a Home Persona or a Home Button ? I'm asking because personally it would be very helpful to be able to see actual working/worked on or simply opened/created project on its specific section. I've had hard time to find recent projects etc ... well i make use of the recently opened stuff or recent documents (whatever it is called)... it's good but it's not enough and dedicated place where i would be able to view miniatures of recent documents (i would limit this to .Af files only - no other format) and just click it to open it knowing what i"m opening. if i'm not wrong it is possible on the iPad version (someone to correct me here if needed) so why not on the desktop version and the current Beta Cycle is the best season to test it. Blessings !
  14. The panorama merge function is one of my most beloved tool in Affinity Photo and I use it regularly to stitch together all kinds of photos. However, the source brush still needs some improving. The precision is rather poor at times. It will produce a line sometimes 60 or more pixels away from the brush stroke rendering the whole idea of a manual selection irrelevant. Also, it's unreliable in it's selection, too. Changing the source at say the top left corner of one image makes the whole panorama rerender, causing to delete / overwrite previous brush strokes. In general, I feel like the tool ought to "listen" more precisely to the user's input. Maybe adding the option to define lines in the panorama it should stick to (e.g. roads, rivers, horizon, etc.) would be a helpful addition, too. It's just such a pain to be working on that huge panorama for hours, seeing all your changes reverted or deleted every few moments. Also, adding the option to go back to panorama source selection might be an interesting idea. I'd rather have a 3gb work-in-progress file for a day than to render the panorama thrice and redo everything again.
  15. EDIT: Hooray. This App has finally been published. Scroll down to get a link to the Microsoft Store listing. I've started working on a new Windows App and have been having trouble getting the icon right. It will be a simple - and totally free - conversion App - kilos to pounds, metres to inches, etc. The general criteria I've given myself for the icon are: * must represent or give the idea of "conversion" or "change"; * broad strokes only - minimal detail, so it scales down well; * single colour only; * must fit nicely in a square with hardly any surrounding space; * should not contain letters or country/culture-specific items; * must not look much like any other existing App icon (not sure how to check this). I've come up with a few variations so far but I'm not happy with any of them (see attached). I started out - top-left - with the idea of taking a section out of two rulers and comparing them (ended up looking like a telephone). Then it morphed - top-right - into comparing a stack of items (started to look like a set of in-trays). Then - middle-left - I went on to a kind of funnel idea. And then - middle-right - a sort of "multi-arrow" that turned into nothing much. Then - bottom-left - I tried some more traditional weight icons but I don't want a specific measurement type to be in the icon. The icon at the bottom-right is what I'm using until something better comes up (it looks a bit like a birthday cake at the moment). Does anyone have any suggestions? (Especially if they're way better than what I've got so far.) The people with the best suggestions - those which make it into the final icon - will get a mention in the App (if they want one) when it comes out.
  16. I'm working on a graphic-heavy report and re-pagination from the layout breaks what would be accurate citations. This is handled manually at the moment (unless there's a way to jury-rig the Index manager?). Request Citation Manager in the top three formats (APA, MLA, and Chicago/Turabian). Ability to set whether the document uses an end-of-section or on-page-where-citation-occurs approach.
  17. It should be convenient to have Publisher work like PDF maker software. Now I only have to drag AP's documents one by one onto a page. Please make it happen and it will fulfill my dream like a charm!
  18. As somebody who designs a lot of photo zines, a feature I would request is the ability to create a picture frame in my masterpage with the desired size etc. and fill it individually for each page that is based on this master page. This would make a huge difference when designing picture-heavy stuff like I do most of the time! Even though Publisher is already a very good program and very easy to use.
  19. Hi Affinity, I mostly use the Multiple option in the leading adjustment panel because it's dynamic. For my tastes, a value of 1.25 is often ideal for paragraphs and headings, as 1.5 is typically too loose and 1.0 too tight. 1.25 is not an option in the dropdown menu, so I'm forced to enter this manually, which is a nuisance. Would you consider the following suggestions: Adding presets to the Multiple options at .25 interval; instead of what's currently there: 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, etc... it'd be: 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2, etc... Adding the option for the to user edit the defaults or enter their own custom leading presets. Make the arrow key value adjustment shortcut correspond better to the Multiple option, so instead of increasing or decreasing by full integers, it would move up and down at .25 increments. Thanks so much and keep up the fantastic work!
  20. I think it would be very useful if when I double-clicked on an image in a publication, the 'Text Wrap' options window popped up. Tony
  21. I think that Affinity Photo could really benefit from added sources in the "Stock" Panel. I'd really love to see Unsplash on there, or a way to add custom sources other than Shutterstock, but I'm curious how others feel.
  22. I think it's gonna be a great improvement if you can add the same brush stabilizer, but for the Freehand selection tool. It would make it easier and more accurate especially on the iPad. Thank you
  23. Hi guys, At the moment I'm fighting with the theme of assets, symbols and grouping in the Affinity Designer. Compared to the illustrator, Affinity has revolutionized the handling of symbols and I am "relatively" satisfied with the available tools, but there is still room for improvement! I've been looking for the same ideas for a long time. There are many suggestions with different content and it is very difficult to follow them, so I do not know whether there have been similar proposals or not. So, let's go! With the identical objects I was able to help myself with assets and symbols, but when it comes to working on other forms in a group simultaneously, it's over with fun. Replacing symbols or objects with inheritance of their original size and position is not possible in Affinity Designer or I haven't found a function for it yet. I have found a good example of how such a thing can or has been realized in Microsoft Powerpoint (2013). It is not a real illustration program but the simple way to modify objects is unsurpassed! Please have a look at the examples here and I am curious about your review. Is this a "Nice to Have" feature for you or a feature that allows you to work quickly, effectively and flexibly? Or is such a feature already in your portfolio? Here you will find some visual examples without the generation of symbols "cloning" like in AD: Objects can be modified individually or together in a group. Different objects can be modified together Objects can be replaced together or independently. The size, position and rotation of the original object is taken over. Just a very simple drawing like the pentaptych or tryptichon is a challenge in AD An example of how PowerPoint works. Try to do this in AD with symbols at the same time and then replace them afterwards. In addition, AD (such as Adobe Illustrator CC and Incscape. With the exception of the CAD programs, because it would be fatal) a strange feature to deform the symbol duplicates (which are changed in their aspect ratio) during rotation. It is also not possible to edit the symbols in the "quasi" mask group, since this group is converted to a solid layer.
  24. So, I use Inkscape before and there is this feature called "interpolate". What this feature does is that you can create a set of new object from 2 object. So, for instance, I have 2 rectangle. One is white, and one is pink. If I interpolate both I will get a set of rectangle with color slowly moving from pink to white. This feature is not limited to only color but also to shapes. This feature is great for gradient simulation and simple animation. I know that this isn't basic and thus will be worked later but I really wish that Affinity Team will consider this and apply this feature someday.
