Once again, the Artifex Forge has been on an urban adventure - exploring the city's bright lights to bring you better design resources! This time I've been searching for the best neon tubes to bring this super-realistic set of neon brushes and neon glow effects to life. If you find existing neon effects limiting, lifeless and a little unrealistic, this is the perfect set for you. Most are entirely computer-generated and therefore lack the lifelike qualities and quirks of genuine neon tubing. With these brushes, you can really give your design the wow-factor. So, why are they so much better? True-to-life: they are sourced from real neon tubing, so no flat, lifeless vector neon effects. Multiple highlight options: this recognizes that when you have a group of neon tubes together, they illuminate each other, creating more highlights. Flexibility: being brushes, they're malleable giving you more scope to create the images you want. Fun: you're drawing with neon tubing... what more can I say? 4. How to make a sphere style for shading in AD 2.3? I tried adding shading with a brush in pixel persona. Didn't work for styles. Help please. I've watched the video. The screenshot has their only text instructions.
  5. I often do forget and also have a hard time to find again resources that others or I have contributed over time here in the forum. In former times I've often oriented on MEB's Affinity resources page, which sadly nowadays isn't up to date any longer (probably it's too much work and too time consuming to keep that up to date). - Here are some links to my own resources section contributions, so I have and keep myself sort of an overview for these. 6. I have been playing around with styles lately making a bunch for different email marketing campaigns I have been working on. I started off here on the forums to see what others have done and what is possible. In doing so, I came across a post from the pre v2 archive section of the forums from someone looking for a style to recreate an effect in Affinity Designer. See the original post here. I think I have come close just casually playing with it and I thought I would share the style here (See attached v2 AD Style). Here is the original: When I make styles for use with text, I like to design it with the text but then apply to a shape then save style from the shape so the font is not saved with it unless I typically use that font with the style. Below is a single v2 style applied to a font I have called "yellowtail" (Not sure where I got it, probably w/CorelDRAW). I then added the border around the text and the tail. I will show both. Just the style applied: With added tail, just drawn with the pen tool with same style applied) and an underlying layer under the text. I have attached a copy of the tail as well for those who are not comfortable with the bezier pen tool. I hope someone finds this useful. With In AD v2 more is possible in "styles" than v1 and I encourage more "Styles" creation and sharing Cheers! Blueliner Vintage (AD v2).afstyles Tail for Vintage Txt.afdesign
  7. I want to produce small magazines in different languages, using the English as my base. I want to keep the same formatting, styles, etc and just import a Word file for each language into a new text layer. In ID, I can simply duplicate the English text layer and replace the English with the new language, maintaining the styles. How do I do that in AP2, without losing all the styles and graphics?
  8. This has been a problem in V1 and unfortunately there has been little improvement in this area. The problem is that Designer (other Affinity apps too) frequently crashes when working with styles. Crashes and hangups often occur when I open another category, which gives me the spinning beach ball, and most of the time I have to force quit the app. Creating, re-ordering, deleting and re-naming styles is also very slow and buggy, and causes frequent crashes as well. It seems to me this part of Designer is just not very well developed and too buggy. Plus it is lacking features, like the ability to edit a style. I hope that there will be improvement in this area soon, as it has been an annoyance for years and has in fact cost me time and work as well.

  11. So, I fell in love with Affinity after about an hour of playing with it. I bought it and started bringing my favorite assets over from Photoshop and Illustrator, including some styles I have been using for years on my web projects. I thought perhaps others could use them too, so here they are with a bonus set of sticker styles. Enjoy if they're of interest to you. UPDATE: New version 2.0! This time the gradients and strokes are tool editable. No more trips to the Effects Panel. This gives better and easier control of the styles. BONUS: By request, 4 atmosphere styles. Included is the AD file with all styles applied for you to play with. Will likely only open in the latest beta. Sorry. BONUS: Dream Metals styles! Aluminum, Gold, and Copper. Find these and more at https://dscape-llc.com/affinity
  12. I see many users asking for the feature of importing Markdown templates into their documents. It's normal, with ChatGPT we have an incredible tool to create content for the internet. Having a document with Markdown codes is not the same as having a finished Markdown document. Until Affinity Serif implements that feature, we can do a simple process to get that done. The steps to follow would be: 1. Create a blank document and create the styles H1(#), H2 (##), H3 (###) and Body. 2. Only the (###) (##) and (#) will appear in the template next to the plain text. Now we will do a search and replace (at least in version V2 we can do it like this). Applies the "body" style to the entire document. Replace with this order from greatest to least number of #: "###" without style for "qqq" with style H3. "##" without style for "www" with style H2. "#" without style to "eee" with style H1. Now replace the "qqq", "www" and "eee" by applying "Reset Format" with "" (nothing). You will now have your document laid out in Markdown, clean and with the styles applied. 13. I have many many text FX and layer styles created in Photoshop that I'd love to import and use in Photo. Problem: When I navigate to a target folder with the PS styles I want to import, all of them are greyed out and non-selectable. Is there a way to import and use already-created layer / text FX / styles from PS into AP? And: Is there a way to create a REAL DROP SHADOW effect in AP? No, the Outer Glow does not do the same thing as a genuine drop shadow capability … close, but no cigar. Thanks for any input regarding how to accomplish these goals.
  14. A two-part about importing text. Can I import a Word document into Publisher, where all of Word's ¶ and character styles have styles of the same names in Publisher, but with Publisher's formatting, rather than the original document's? And, related, I'm losing italics when I apply a paragraph style, even if the definition is to leave italics alone with the formatting. Or am I misunderstanding the little dash in the box next to "Italic" in the paragraph definition? Thanks much.
  15. In the latest version, working with styles in Designer is still very buggy and slow. Adding and removing styles is very slow, and might even crash the app. Each time I have an object selected to create a style from, opening the styles menu to add a style takes several seconds with spinning beach ball. This behaviour was already problematic in v1, but I hoped the new version, plus a new Mac Mini M2 would resolve this. It is still there though, and it is very annoying! I hope that you can finally improve on the styles functionality, both improve speed and reduce bugginess, but also allow for better editing of a style. Why not give me the option to edit the style and change things like effects, line width or color? It is quite cumbersome to work with right now, which is a real shame...
  16. It was recently suggested that I create s single post showing all of the free resources we have made available via https://affinity.graphics as some were never announced here and some folks still don't know about Affinity.Graphics for finding resources. We just updated the site a bit and released 2 more free resources there, so stop by and check things out. You can find DSV's offerings directly at our Affinity.Graphics User Page. 17. Hi. I can't seem to find a way to make a named style for pen tool lines. Suppose want to make a quickly selectable "line style" that has some predefined attributes for use with the pen tool, such as 4pt, a particular pressure patern, color, etc. If this can be done in AD, please give me some hints as to how. Thanks.

  22. Suggest that in the paragraph and character styles in Publisher Preferences the default Ordinal Preference in the Publsiher Preferences NOT be superscript in the preferences panel. It's a death trap for new users and a nuisance for experienced users. I spent an hour yesterday trying to get rid of superscipted numbers in the default Numbers style and superscripted numbers in hyperlinks such as u3a@nnnnnnn. In the end I deleted all styles and recreated the lot. It wasn;t until I went to change the default user interface to a lighter grey and better contrast that I spotted the problem. Aaaarrrrggghhh!!!!
  23. In Publisher, once I choose a style for selected text, it won't undo by keyboard shortcut. (Windows 11 / 2.1.0.1714) It will undo by menu Edit > Undo, but CTRL-Z does nothing. CTRL-Z does work if you click back on the document, but it takes twice since the first undo is re-selecting the text. Same with either paragraph or character styles, and the same if you've applied a keyboard shortcut for the style and applied it that way. Works as expected in 2/non-beta.
  24. Greetings! I'm wondering about the lack of any default styles and/or palettes for either Designer or Photo v2? Should I export them from v1 or are there downloadable versions available? It would seem like an opportunity to leverage v2 features is being missed here. Just to be clear, this isn't intended as a complaint: I'm happy with what I've seen so far, just want to take my work to the next level. Also, there are no Templates in the Account section. Samples, yes, but no Templates. Thanks in advance, Paul
  25. Hi. I am using some STYLES collections in Designer V2 - imported them and they show up each time I start Designer. So far so good. BUT: When I switch to the Designer Persona in Publisher V2 these styles are not there - just the default style category. I can import the styles in the Designer Persona in Publisher V2 and use them. But each time I start Publisher V2 and switch to the Designer Personal the styles list is empty but the one default style category and I have to import the styles again.. I think the styles should show up everywhere in the Affinity suite as soon as I imported them and not disappear from one usage of Publisher V2 to the next. Thanks Chris
