  1. Greetings! I'm wondering about the lack of any default styles and/or palettes for either Designer or Photo v2? Should I export them from v1 or are there downloadable versions available? It would seem like an opportunity to leverage v2 features is being missed here. Just to be clear, this isn't intended as a complaint: I'm happy with what I've seen so far, just want to take my work to the next level. Also, there are no Templates in the Account section. Samples, yes, but no Templates. Thanks in advance, Paul
  2. Hi. I am using some STYLES collections in Designer V2 - imported them and they show up each time I start Designer. So far so good. BUT: When I switch to the Designer Persona in Publisher V2 these styles are not there - just the default style category. I can import the styles in the Designer Persona in Publisher V2 and use them. But each time I start Publisher V2 and switch to the Designer Personal the styles list is empty but the one default style category and I have to import the styles again.. I think the styles should show up everywhere in the Affinity suite as soon as I imported them and not disappear from one usage of Publisher V2 to the next. Thanks Chris
  3. Hello, here some styles, you may like... Some of the styles are two layer based: Glass, SwampCamping and SanFrancisco. ( As soon as I have more time, I will write an additional tutorial. ) Have fun. TextFX_05.afdesign MartinsTextStyles1.afstyles
  4. Here are some of my Text Styles converted from Photoshop to Affinity. Hope these work for you. They might need some tweaking for you needs. Let me know what you think. Enjoy. 5. Hi. I'd like to make a black or colorless word logo with a rainbow stroke. Every time I try it fills in my letters and I do not see how to make a rainbow stroke. Is this possible please? Thanks!
  6. Here are also some Div Metal Styles (mostly dark textured/structured ones) for those who might have a need for these! The compressed AD styles files ... Div Metal Textures.zip
  7. Here's a little fall season set of some assets & styles for the community. Caution: the included Fall & Halloween styles are very huge in size, since these styles are build out of 3600 x 3600 px bitmaps, so they can also be used on demand for higher-res printing purposes here. The corresponding fall assets & styles set files: fall-assets.afassets (275 KB) fall-holloween.afstyles (283 MB) - Have a nice fall time!
  8. This time some Fire Styles (a few of them have transparency, though most do not) for those who might have a use for these things. - [NOTE: that these styles work best when used on very dark (preferable deep black) backgrounds!] The compressed AD styles file ... Fire styles.zip
  9. Here are some Fur styles (based on bitmaps) for those who might have a need for such styles! The compressed AD styles files ... Fur styles 1.zip Fur styles 2.zip
  10. In much of Asia, it is usual to have bits of Latin-script text in a block of Thai, Chinese, or whatever. Right now I'm working on a restaurant menu where one field requires both Thai and Latin script. The next version will need Chinese, too. To make this look good I need a different font for each script. In Microsoft Word I can define a style that uses an entirely different font for each script. From the posts I've seen, in Affinity Publisher I would need to override a paragraph style with a manually applied character style for two of the three scripts. This is a pain, and since I'd have to do it over again whenever my merge data changes, I can't really use Publisher for this job. This problem must be hurting Affinity sales all over Asia, and I would think that applying a font according to a range of Unicode code points would not be a big programming challenge.
  11. See Pic attached. After unsuccessfully trying to replicate a chrome layer style in Designer I was about to give up and chalk this up to Designer just doesn't have the goods, BUT IT DOES! After studying the differences in both apps, I saw that a layer style in PS is going to be created differently in AP or AD. I studied why I wasn't getting the chromey effect in AD, I realized that PS has a gloss contour built into their bevel panel, and AD doesn't so I was stumped a while. Soon realized that gloss contour is almost the same or same as a curves adjustment so after tinkering more I came up with this cool chrome CUSTOM effect! AFFINITY ROCKS!!!
  12. Maybe the commands I'm after are before my eyes and I'm just not seeing them... Programs like Microsoft Word have "copy and paste text formatting" commands. The commands store character formatting and you can later paste the formatting to other text. With some editors, if a paragraph marker was part of the original selection, you can even paste the copied paragraph formatting—not just character formatting. Something like that could be very useful in Publisher. But are there such commands for use within text frames and I've just missed them? I see a keyboard shortcut for "paste style" but it seems to apply only to objects, not text formatting.
  13. I am copying text from a word processor into a Publisher document. I want to apply my main paragraph style to this text, which includes optical alignment. Problem: Sometimes the text I am copying includes local formatting, e.g., italicized text. Applying my style and clearing character formatting will unitalicize the italics. Apply Style and Preserve Character Formatting will keep the italics, but then it will not apply optical alignment. Is there a way to do this, short of manually reapplying italics?
  14. I am trying to update a 100 page publisher file and have updated the current body style to change the font size. This works fine for new text that I apply the style to, but hasn't updated existing text based on the body style which is still in the original size. Am I missing something obvious? Is there a preference somewhere to update all items with this style to the new style definition? Cheers Gareth
  15. Time approaches quickly so here are some Xmas texture styles in case anybody has a need for such things (and as always you may freely use those styles to your likes): Personally I sometimes use such textures for backgrounds on greeting cards and stuff like that here ... Here are the compressed AD style files: xmas1.afstyles.zip xmas2.afstyles.zip Have a nice Xmas time!
  16. Would it be useful if you could import and export text styles? Single or multiple text styles together.
  17. On my wishlist: Object Styles that behave the same as - consistent with - Text Styles. All Apps. Meaning: They update; are amendable (currently not) They flow through to all objects where the Style has been applied In short: the same as Text Styles, but for Objects. Yes, I'm aware you might be thinking "so when Symbols vs Styles?". Styles are concerned with fills, strokes and effects. Symbols are mini artworks. …therein is the answer. Indeed you could have an Object Style applied to several Symbols, in theory, couldn't you? Scenario: Brand colour combinations comes to mind - a plc I worked for had six different colours, as well as two core colours in their brand manual. The six could be used in any combination or tint. No doubt a designer's choice of fill-stroke colour combination would be questioned by marketing, or the manager signing-off. Everyone has an opinion on colour. The value of being able to update a style once and let it flow through to multiple symbols and objects, in say, a 56 page company report nearing print deadline (as is always the way) - then change it back again when they decide they like the designers choice after all ....should be obvious. Hope that helps you grasp the "why". (Saves a designer having to do an all-nighter... again). !! Consistency: Currently we have two features called Styles in Publisher that behave in very different ways? Why? What justifies that? Maintain this consistency across all the Affinity suite too please. I've not checked Styles in all the apps, but the ideal is that all Styles, where ever they appear in whichever app they're in, behave the same and perform the same function - across desktop and iPad too. Thank you. ----------------- Really good start to these apps btw, really shaping up well - am a total fan - lovin them on the iPad especially. Appreciate they are in early versions, so still much to do. More things on my wishlist as they occur. Hope this helps.
  18. This is a feature/update I would love to see come to life at some point as it would allow for a lot more detailed styles to be used created and would offer an advantage over adobe. A newspaper effect would also be a sick and unique addition to it.

  22. I have the same question tumber8 asked about styles. How do I get the textures/images I had in styles from PS CS3 to show in Affinity Photo? I opened the doc “Styles CS3,54a.psd” in Affinity Photo and some of the effects were there but the textures /images were gone. The attachment includes the jpg and psd opened in Affinity Photo. I also included the image of a style from Claudia Phoenyx. The top one has the effects checked and in the bottom one the effects are unchecked but the texture is still there. In Claudia’s style where is the texture kept? I have hundreds of styles I created in CS3 and I would love to share them but without the textures/images there is not much there. My 13 year old Mac that had PS CS3 on it is no longer available so I can’t use PS to convert them to afstyles, Any suggestions? Thanks, JulieO
  23. With these simple hatching styles you can hatch your vector objects in Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo. Affinity Publisher Beta seems not working yet (previews looks strange on my machine). DOWNLOAD: https://mensch-mesch.com/download/affinity-designer-schraffuren-hatchings/ With the red styles you can easily change the color of the hatching while using an adjusment layer recolor. Keep on drawin' Norbert
  24. I'm having a problem; I think I mentioned it before; I'm just hoping that there's been an update or something since it seems like I'm missing something. I have white text on a black page that overflows (correct term?) into black text on a white page. When text is part of the same paragraph I can't seem to alter it without altering the entire paragraph. Ideally there'd be a way of having the text automatically change style when it becomes a part of that text frame. But even if that's not possible; can I not change the colour of the text if it's in the same paragraph? And even if that's possible it's frustrating because if I change any of the layout I have to keep on going back to make sure no text has crept into the wrong section and is the wrong colour which is even harder because it may be white text on a white background and black on black and, thus, invisible. Maddening! Video of the problem. Affinity_Colour_Prob.mov
  25. Hi all, I downloaded a bunch of styles and they all have bitmap fills (see screenshots). Is there a way to change the fill without affecting the FX and so on? In particular I would like to shrink or enlarge the images and rotate them without changing the size and rotation of the container. I can do this in CorelDRAW. Is there a way to do this? Thanks!
