  1. I would find it very helpful if I could call up a font list with a RMB and subsequently roll through choices for some selected text. The location of the font menu to the far left of the workspace is a bit tedious at times.
  2. Hi forum, On both Photo and Designer, I'm often confused by when my vector stroke styles are either inherited from the last object I create or not. I can't work out the rules for how this happens - can anyone advise on how to control this behaviour either way? Similar issues when I just want to draw a new vector with a new fill colour. So I might select the previous vector layer because I want to insert a new object in front of it. This object will always inherit the style of the one I have selected, which is often not what I want, and can make it hard to see the new shape. I have to change the fill and stroke afterward to stand out against the underlying object. I'm sure I'm missing something simple here!!
  3. I have a layer of place names on a map. I've applied 'MyStyle 1' to them all as I've typed them in. I can change their look by just editing 'MyStyle 1'. So far, so good. If I click the layer, all the place names are selected but if I try to now apply 'MyStyle 2' to them it doesn't work. I have to actually select all the items in the layer to change the applied style. That doesn't seem quite right to my way of thinking. Is this a bug, are the correct way of working?
  4. Hello, I just want to introduce myself as a new digital assets company KAEV that will be focused on Affinity because I just love this company so much! I just launched my first Christmas styles on Gumroad. This sampler is just a taste of the newly uploaded full set that I put on the store. Please check them out! A lot more planned for 2018! You can find me on Gumroad here! https://gum.co/NlOBV Here is a FREE sample of the full set! Merry Christmas!! https://www.dropbox.com/s/yi9meecu71hdkkq/KAEV_ChristmasStyles_Sampler.afstyles?dl=0
  5. I've was using Affinity Designer last night to create probably smaller graphics than what most are used with Affinity products.. 52x52 pixels. The issue that arises is that If I save a style that has a specific inner outline set in Effects I would guess that it doesn't change from what I set it to - to the next time I apply this style to a new shape layer? But, it does.. I wanted to specifically use 1.8px Inner Outline and save that as a style(which I have a question about too - that'll be a different thread) Instead what happens is that the Outline is now 1.3px - still Inner in it's appearance but the behaviour is not what I expect. Can it be trusted; meaning Affinity Designer or am I just a lost cause.
  6. [in this post, I'm guessing the English on-screen text, because I'm using the German version of Affinity Designer 1.5.2.58 on a German 64-bit Windows 7] Strange behaviour 1 (text baseline): The 'Edit text style' dialog doesn't immediately transfer its baseline settings to the selected text. Try the following: Create a new document with a block text containing one paragraph spread over two lines, format this text with the paragraph style 'Heading 1', and keep the block text object selected. In the text styles palette, right-click on 'Heading 1' and choose 'Edit Heading 1' to show the 'Edit text style' dialog. In 'Position and transformation', change the kerning or character distance in permille. The selected text block immediately reacts and shows the desired changes. Wonderful - that's what should happen. Now change the baseline. Nothing appears to happen. Only when additionally changing kerning or character distance (or anything else), the changed baseline settings become visible in the text object. Sometimes, even kerning or character distance changes in one direction (with the up/down arrows) don't do the trick, but one needs to change these in one and the other direction to make it work properly. Set the baseline to a negative value for the time being (e.g., -24pt), ensure that the -24pt baseline is really working properly, and close the dialog with 'OK'. Strange behaviour 2 (text baseline): The 'Edit text style' dialog transfers the current text's baseline into its edit fields with the wrong sign. Try the following: Right-click on 'Heading 1' in the text styles palette, and choose 'Edit Heading 1' to show the 'Edit text style' dialog again. Though the baseline was previously set the minus 24pt, the edit field now shows a positive 24pt. Changing kerning now by some reason keeps the text's negative baseline intact, though a positive baseline is shown in the edit field. When changing the positive '24pt' baseline to '23pt' with the up/down arrows, nothing seems to happen (see above). Changing kerning additionally now makes the baseline jump from the previous -24pt to a real +23pt. Closing the dialog with 'OK' and opening it again now shows a negative 23pt baseline where a positive one should be shown. Change the baseline to zero and make sure changes are accepted to avoid this confusion for now, and close the dialog with 'OK'. Strange behaviour 3 (distance correction): Try the following: Open the dialog again. Note that the baseline is now displayed as minus 0pt, but we will ignore that... The 'distance correction' (or whatever it is called in English) below the baseline is now shown as '0pt', and the two-line text object looks 'normal'. Changing the '0pt' to '1pt' and back again to '0pt' makes the two text lines completely overlap each other, so that the text is unreadable. Changing the distance correction to 'auto' resolves that problem and makes the text appear 'normal' again. It appears that the default setting for the distance correction is 'auto', but that is not what is displayed when opening the dialog. Instead, an apparently wrong '0pt' is displayed, which leads to confusion. Sometimes, after changing the distance correction to some undesired point value, choosing 'auto' from the drop down combo does not transfer 'auto' into the edit field, but leaves the previously entered point value in it, creating additional confusion. Sometimes, even manually typing 'auto' into the edit field and pressing RETURN throws away the manually entered 'auto' text and replaces it by the previously entered point value, making it impossible to ever get the automatic spacing again... Strange behaviour 4 (font attributes): Try the following: Now show the dialog page where one can select the font family and choose a family that has several attributes available, e.g., regular, bold, italic and bold-italic. The font attributes are still set to 'No change'. Now set the font attributes to 'Regular', switch to the dialog page 'position and transformation' (without changing anything there) and back to the page 'font'. Now, the attributes previously set to 'Regular' appear as 'No change' again. For the second time, switch to the dialog page 'position and transformation' (without changing anything there) and back to the page 'font'. Now, the attributes display as 'Regular'. Very confusing... Over the weeks of using that dialog, I found even more than the above confusing things with it, which I just didn't care to put into writing. Anyway, this dialog seems to be quite confusing and unreliable to me, with lots of strange side effects that make predicting its outcome rather difficult... Andreas Weidner
  7. Is there a way in Affinity Designer to quickly copy a text style? In Illustrator it was fairly easy to do that with the eye dropper too since that worked both as a colour picker as well as a text style picker. I just want to be able to select a text block and quickly apply the style and format of another text block. I can't seem to find a quick way in Affinity Designer. Thanks!
  8. I'm just working my first half an hour with Affinity Designer, but I'm just missing an option to divide floating text into two or more columns. This should be made possible either with combined textframes, paragraph style or textframe options.
  9. Can anyone give me any tips on how to achieve lines similar to the style done in the show 'Ed Edd n Eddy'?The line widths are all over the place. Would this be done with a specific brush or by manually altering the line widths?
  10. Hello, I have a couple of guestions. If you have a style ready, how you can edit colors so that all objects affected by this style, changes their colors or lines and so on? If you have multiple art boards, how you select quickly objects with marquee select tool or by clicking and move them to new different layers? How to aling objects in multiple layers together? Can you have guides visible on whole document?
  11. Hi. I am trying to create a style in Designer and nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me? I want to create it from an image fill and then give it an outline. Is this possible and if so how do I do it? I followed some instructions I found on here but my app doesn't behave as the instructions imply it should (possibly an old post). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  12. Hi Folks, I'm after some help again.... So I really admire two very very good automotive photographers... Amy Shore and Laurent Nivalle. Both have a similar(ish) style and this extends to their editing process. I have read numerous interviews with both of them and they both mainly use Photoshop (Sorry to swear!) rather than lightroom and I am very keen to try and re-caprture their respective styles but by using Affinity Photo. I have attached two files which are photos from both Laurent and Amy respectively. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction to try and obtain the same style? Obviously I don't want to be copying their styles out right as that is not what photography is all about but I am very curious as to how to achieve this. Thanks folks, hope you can help. Regards Mark All credit for the attached two images go to Amy and Laurent.

    Pasting style

When I pasting style, parameters of style are not transfered correctly. For example, width of outline changes.
  14. One of the things that I don't get in AD is why in the world would you sort the Font Style order alphabetically? Just take a look at the complex font like Relaway: It starts with Black the continues with Regular and so on... it's not even alphabetically 100%. Makes absolutely no sense! The normal order should be from the lightest to the thickest, right? Or am I not thinking right? Also it would be awesome to have a preview of the Font Style similar to Photoshop. Just an idea. Thanks for the awesome work you've done so far and for supporting Windows users as well!

    Retro City Woman

Inspired by the magnificent Joan Holloway character in Madmen, played by Christina Hendricks. Affinity Designer. I'm still getting to grips with some of the features. I started using the Vector Brush Tool (to make those silhouettes of the passers-by. I like the way it seems to auto-smooth the line, which is a feature I'd really like. Really well done to you people at Serif for making a full-on professional tool. I have no qualms about using this for client-work.
  16. Hi all, I think it would be very convenient for Character styles to have a font size that is relative to the underlying Paragraph style’s font size, by addition, subtraction and even multiplication or division. A Character style’s font size could be expressed as -2 pt or +2 pt, for example. If the underlying Paragraph style’s font size is 14 pt, the Character style’s fonts size would result in respectively 12 pt or 16 pt in the aforementioned example. This is very convenient in for example optical adjustment of different typefaces, while keeping everything dynamic. If the Paragraph style’s font size changes, the Character style’s font size changes accordingly.
  17. Hello Affinity Wanted to make a "none" Style which is simply style with no effects, no fill, no stroke. It seems I can't add such style if Effects -> Fill Opacity = 100%. With Fill Opacity < 100% it works just fine. (tested on 1.5.3.69 win10 x64)
  18. Hi, Don't know if this is the right place to ask this but here goes... I want to be able to export an svg with holes in it. This is what I get when I export: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?><!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd"> <svg width="100%" height="100%" viewBox="0 0 24 24" version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xml:space="preserve" style="fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;stroke-linejoin:round;stroke-miterlimit:1.41421;"> <path d="M18.072,4.458c0,-0.344 -0.279,-0.622 -0.622,-0.622l-10.9,-0.042c-0.343,0 -0.622,0.279 -0.622,0.622l0,15.126c0,0.344 0.279,0.622 0.622,0.622l10.9,0.042c0.343,0 0.622,-0.279 0.622,-0.622l0,-15.126Zm-6.072,6.298l0,-1.512l-4.045,0l0,1.512l4.045,0Zm2.257,-2.814l0,-1.512l-6.302,0l0,1.512l6.302,0Z"/> </svg> For my project, I only need the path. But when I only insert the path into my project, I just get a full black shape. The culprit is the style="fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;stroke-linejoin:round;stroke-miterlimit:1.41421;" If I import the whole svg object... I do see the holes in the shape What am I doing wrong in the export? I just combine (or substract) the 2 shapes prior to exporting so I have one '(Curves)' layer Thanks! - Desired result in one path (without style tag)
  19. Hello. I just purchased Affinity for both my Mac and iPad. While trying to learn the program on my Mac, I encountered two problems... 1) I cannot undo certain things. Example: if I click on a Style to see how it looks, there's no way to undo the effect. It's baked into that layer permanently. I encountered this issue during a free trial of Affinity and it was my #1 reason for not buying it originally. Surely I'm overlooking something?? 2) I applied one of the default Styles (Rainbow)...and while trying to figure out how to undo it, I accidentally deleted the Style altogether. How can I get it back? Thank you for your help! -E.T. Craven
  20. It's not possible to save a Style if it's similar to one that has previously been saved. Affinity Photo seems to have some sort of logic built into it that doesn't recognise changes to the stroke's pressure profile properties. To reproduce the problem: 1) Open Styles panel 2) Click Settings icon > Add Styles Category 3) Select Pen tool and draw a line with the Pen tool 4) Set Stroke Width to 20px 5) Set Pressure Properties 6) Go to Edit > Create Style 7) Style is correctly added to the new Styles Category Style 1: 8) Close the above document and open a new one 9) Select Pen tool and draw a line with the Pen tool 10) Set Stroke Width to 20px 11) Set Pressure Properties (this time using a different stroke pressure profile to the last one) 12) Go to Edit > Create Style 13) It won't let you save the new style. It will only let you save it if you change something else other than the pressure properties, such as the size or colour. This example is done with the Pen tool, but the issue also occurs with shapes. Style 2 (won't save): ----------------------------------- Windows 10 - 15063.332 Affinity Photo - 1.5.2.69
  21. Hello, I seem to be missing how to copy and paste fill and stroke for text exclusively. When I copy and paste style, to text, my text sizing and spacing changes also. I only want to copy the fill colour, and the stroke (colour, weight, mitre, draw behind fill) and paste that onto my art text. I do not want to also copy font, text size, character spacing, and other position and transformations. Is there a quick setting I am missing. thank you very much for you guidance. Mars
  22. I wish to copy (or export) the style of an object as CSS. For example: Like you can do it in Photoshop ...or within Sketch ...or in Autodesk Graphic / iDraw.
  23. Last night Windows 10 Pro performed another update .On starting up my computer this morning I found I had lost all the plugins brushes palettes etc I had imported into AD & AP. Then this evening while I was busy re importing everything I noticed the COGS shapes in the STYLES tab had changed into cats.. and I have no idea how or why.. Am I too tired to figure it out or what? Am I going crazy
  24. I noticed that I can scale an active text object with a layer style applied no problem with the scaling, but if I enter a numeric value to change the font size, the style does NOT scale with it, even with the Scale with Object checked.
