  1. Hey guys, please check this out and let me know what I'm doing wrong or simply not doing; https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cqfYbjZuYp I can never get this trick to work in AD, but I'm sure others can, so I'm asking for help.
  2. I think I remember reading a post regarding this topic but when I searched again I didn't see anything. Is there a reason why "scale with object" is unchecked by default for EVERYTHING. I don't see the relevance in having it turned off by default. FX, gradients, strokes, etc. I think when I read the post a month ago or so it said it was intended to be this way. I don't remember reading a legitimate reason but can we, or is there already an option to turn it on by default? That would save me SO much time and is an easy fix. I would rather uncheck it on the rare occasion I don't want something to scale with an object.
  3. The issue happens when I use the Vector Brush Tool. After opening a new document and selecting the brush tool, some strange lines appear when drawing random strokes. When I stop drawing, the strange lines vanish. I'm using AD latest beta build (1.7.0.251), Windows 10 and a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet. vector-brush-tool-bug.mp4
  4. Hello Everyone ! Hello Team ! i'm maybe wrong asking this, if so, please forgive. Publisher is the master piece in my workflow and it does quite good vector operations but i've noticed i can't expand strokes. Okay, i maybe wrong here or asking too much but very soon the software will go public and there are peoples out there who will buy Publisher only expecting to do few with it and expand strokes is not something of too much luxury to add in there. As i said, i maybe wrong but Serif team should teach me on this if i'm wrong, but if it is something another user have noticed and would like to see, i would be glad know that person would use it. Blessings !
  5. Hi, please, add comtrol points to the "Rectangle" and "Elipse" shapes to get even more control. Beside rounding corners on the rectangle with a control point (no need of extra "rounded rectangle" tool) we could do the following: draw any kind of shape; make any number of segments with additional control point; control the length of the segments with another control point; now we can convert to curve this object and add different types of arrows (when they will be available) on the each end of the curve (or on the both) and/or; we can apply any type of stroke (whey they will be available, of course) not only of this kind of curves, but on the lines too.
  6. Hi, in the AD BETA all elements/objects have a pinkish outline around them with "No Stroke" selected, just a gradient fill in what I'm working on(5 objects/elements). When the project opens it's fine but once the element is selected the outlines stay Is this the same issue I found here This is all I could find on it in the forums, it doesn't happen in 1.6.5. but in the linked post it says that it isn't new to this beta. Very frustrating. I understand it's BETA. Cheers
  7. It would be very useful to be able to create vector patterns and brushes. Having to use rasterized images to use as pattern fills or brushes is not really acceptable and certainly not what I expect from a vector art program. I would like to create a vector graphic and be able to use it as vector art on strokes and I'd like to create vector patterns and fill shapes with this vector pattern.
  8. Hallo, Recently I happen to use a lot constraints group function. I noticed that the strokes close to the bounding box is getting clipped. I googled and found the above thread. Exactly the same issue. The above thread was published two years ago, seems it should be fixed already. Could anyone kindly tell me how to overcome this issue (without having to restart from the very beginning...) Thank you.
  9. what i'm thinking is another slider on the stroke modal window that controls how much the stroke is offset. on closed curves it would read outwards on one side and inwards on the other, or something like that, and i'm not sure for open curves, but it would be leftwards along the normal vector when moved to the left and rightwards when moved to the right.
  10. I used a number of different style vector brushes when I inked a design in Affinity Designer. When I went to convert the brush strokes to curves, only the solid standard brush strokes were converted and all specialized or non-standard brushes were gone.... I backtracked and selected a single stroke made with a non-standard vector brush and went to convert to curves or expand... and it was grayed out. Is there a way to convert these types of brushes to fills? I need to be able to use my vector line work made in Affinity Designer in other apps as vectors.... Is there a solution to this? Thanks
  11. Can Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer add strokes to raster layers like layer style strokes in Photoshop?
  12. Hello, during the last couple of days I spent a lot of time with Designer. I watched most of the official tutorials and read the relevant parts of the documentation. So far, I love AD, but the following behavior drives me nuts and renders AD almost unusable for me. I am trying to draw a brushed illustration using a Wacom. I have hundreds of strokes and want to clean them up: sort them into groups assign different stroke widths etc. However the selection process seems to be almost impossible hard. Please consider the following quick screen-capture: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_DsJZdXqWzY" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> ( https://youtu.be/_DsJZdXqWzY ) It shows the following problems: Frequently, I'm am accidentally creating copies by dragging with ALT or CMD Pressing CMD-Z once will only undo the offset but not the duplication which leads to two identical copies of the strokes precisely on top of each other (it took me hours to actually notice this behavior and now I'm always using slightly transparent stroke colors) Trying to select a stroke by clicking with CMD+SHIFT is totally random. Sometimes I'm lucky but it feels like most of the time a random neighbor stroke is being selected. (SketchApp always shows the inner bezier-line as hover before clicking which makes it possible to quickly select the right element without trail and error) Trying to select several elements with marquise-selection frequently does more damage than help, because I just create more accidental drag-copies. Drag zooming with SPACE+CMD+Drag is super fast. But if I accidentally press CMD+SPACE+Drag (pressing in the wrong order) -> Yay, I just created another invisible copy and have to Press undo twice. I can't figure out the "Edit all Layers"-toggle. It should lock me into focusing on a single layout (without accidentally switching when CMD+selecting or dragging). But it doesn't seem to make any difference. The Isolate Layer-Mode (ALT+Clicking on a thumbnail) would be super useful, but sadly it is abandoned as soon as you want to select several elements. I have a hard time figuring out the precise working of the layer-player (Group vs. Layer vs. Component). Sometimes it seems to have an impact on the selection (esp if the toggles of "layer-items" are highlighted with a circle). The CTRL+CMD+Click context-selection frequently only lists a single "Curve >" icon, that can't be selected. I guess I must be using it wrong so I'm looking for advice from advanced users. How are you doing this kind of basic selection work? As mentioned above, I frequently work with Sketch, and selecting stuff seems to be million times more efficient and logical there. Thanks for your help. Any tips or pointers are very welcome. Tom EDIT: I finally figured out, that the "Edit All Layers" toggle is to be taken literally: After promoting many of by Groups into proper Layers, this already helps quite a bit. affinity-designer-problems-01-selection.mov
  13. I'm a member of a Music Production/DJ group called Ultimate Rejects (UR). This piece was made using vectors and alot of stroke work with customized pressure graphs. The hand to the left is making the letter 'U' symbol in sign language and the hand on the right is making the letter 'R'. The hands were difficult too draw by memory as I'm not a natural artist so i drew it on paper first and imported a snapshot into the project. The image on the cap is our logo. Paying for artwork for our albums and singles became costly so I purchased AD & AP in Oct. 2016 so I def consider myself one of the 'day ones' lol. ~ Joel - Self taught Graphic Designer.
  14. Hey everyone, I've been trying to do more of my regular workflow in Designer and get away from Illustrator as much as possible - can someone point me to a tutorial or explain to me how this task is accomplished in Designer? In Illustrator, I trace over my original sketch layer with strokes that purposefully overlap each other. When completed, I select them all together and expand them to fills and then use the "live paint"option to convert them to separate pieces that begin and end where they overlap - so then I can deselect and use the white arrow tool to click on each overlapping piece I don't want and delete. I included a picture from Illustrator showing the overlapping technique and the individualized pieces. Im not sure what to call this technique, so its been hard to look up - any help is appreciated! thank you! Mat
  15. Will Affinity Designer ever offer the possibility to Outline Strokes (not only for strokes made with the "Basic" set of vector brushes, but for any other vector brush, too) and / or the possibility to Trace an Image? This is what I miss most in Affinity Designer, compared to Illustrator. I can't imagine working with vectors without having these essential tools. ☹️ Just would like to know if there are any plans to make this and when. Thank you.
  16. Dear Affinity Team, i tried to build a cube (2D-3D), with a stroke pt of 5. All my shapes are in white so that I can put on the transparency mode with ex. an conical type. After configuring my gradient and exporting the file I can't see all my strokes of the cube. I tried different gradients and types, but with no big different's. Is there a way to the configure the gradient so I can see all my strokes with an white transparency? Thanks a for the support and greetings from Berlin Max PS: I tried to upload a jpg 3-4mb, but with an error file. -200
  17. It would be a great feature and would put Designer above other apps like Sketch if we had the ability to apply a different style (color, weight, dashed, solid, etc) of stroke to each side of an object, just like you can with CSS. I have never seen a design app that could do this and would be a welcome feature for any web designer.
  18. Hello, I'm a new user as of today. Running Windows7, 64-bit. Is there a way to apply a transparency to the Stroke of an object which is different than the transparency applied to the fill of the same object?
  19. I am really loving Designer! I can see myself using this more and more as my go to vector design program. However I still have to go back to Illustrator to do simple 3d effects, (revolve, extrude and rotate). Also, I haven't been able to figure out a way to have multiple strokes and fills on a single element. I use the appearance panel constantly in Illustrator and would love to have something similar in Designer. Thanks for helping many of us break or Adobe chains!!
  20. When posting my photos to my blog, I often add a small border. In Photoshop, I use the resize canvas tool to add pixels in whatever color I choose. I have benn able to add to the canvas in Affinity Photo Beta, but only as a clear background (if that makes sense). How do I add (for example), a 50 pixel gray border?
  21. Fun with strokes and blending modes :)
  22. I am having problems with layers of different colours and strokes, ill try and explain say you have red shape with a black stroke around it, then you want to make part of it blue, and keep the black stroke of the original red circle without the blue colour overlapping the stroke, how can this be done? right now, i am making a coloured shape with a black stroke, then duplicating it and making the top layer just the black stroke, then between these layers i draw another shape making sure it hides behind the stroke on top. Surely there is an easier way to do this. I have tried dividing the shapes in the icons on the top right but then stroke then changes, I hope you can understand what i was trying to explain, and help me out
  23. Does anyone have a suggestion of how to efficiently set blending modes of a stroke? AD has the great feature of live viewing of the blending modes as they are changed but the blue line showing the path covers the stroke. Holding down the space key stops being able to change blending modes. So the live mode is useless. Again this program would be so much better/easier/friendly with a command to hide the bounding box and path indicators.
  24. I'm a veteran Illustrator user who recently purchased AD. I am now comparing "Stroke" features between the two apps. Here are my questions: 1) Sketch a rectangle and give it an opaque color, then sketch a second rectangle above it and give your second rectangle X% Opacity. Now tick / Enable "Stroke" in the Effects. Slowly move the Radius to the right and you will then suddenly see your X% Opacity become complete Opaque. Why? 2) In Illustrator I can put a Stroke on a rectangle and then make that stroke to be Centered or Inside or Outside. But AD is very different. When I sketch a rectangle in AD and then when I add a "Line" to it, I am presented with a large number of options, but the ability to move that Line to the Outside or Inside is mysteriously absent. So I was thinking to myself, well, maybe the developers of AD want me to use the "Stroke" Effect instead. And truly, when I apply a Stroke, I have the 3 options available (Center, Inside, Outside). But the disadvantage to using Stroke is that the corners are always curved. Why is that? 3) Stroke does not seem to be a replacement for Line. Try this. Sketch a rectangle but set Fill and Line to NONE. Now tick/Enable Stroke and expand the Radius. Nothing appears on screen at all! But as soon as I give it a fill color, then the Stroke magically appears. It seems a bit strange. If Line would give me the option to have Center or Inside or Outside, this wouldn't matter as I could then use Line instead. 4) Illustrator empowers me to add multiple strokes to the same object, and when I set those strokes behind the fill, I can then do some pretty interesting things. I cannot seem to find a way to do this in AD. 5) It seems that AD only allows me to add a gradient to a Stroke but not to a Line. This is unfortunate because I cannot seem to create a Stroke WITHOUT rounded corners. 6) Illustrator CC has some powerful new Corner features for Strokes. For example, I can sketch a rectangle and then give it a 5pt stroke and then I can grab any one of the 4 round tabs and drag inward to give all 4 corners the same roundness. Furthermore, I can use Illustrator's Direct Selection tool to draw a selection rec around only on of the corners, which will enable me to round that one corner independently of the others. How can I accomplish the same in AD? 7) Dashed lines and Arrowheads are very common in my work but such features appear to be absent in the current version of AD? 8) In Illustrator, I can sketch a line or Stroke a box and then have "Width Profile" that I can choose in the Stroke panel. This can be very useful at times. For example, in Illustrator, if I sketch a line that is 26pt thickness and then give it Width Profile 4, the 26pt thickness decreases linearly to zero, giving it the shape of a spike. Can such be done in AD? 9) Another tool I always use in Illustrator when dealing with Strokes and Objects is the CUT tool. I can't seem to find it in AD. How do I sketch a rectangle and then cut pieces out of it? Sorry for all the questions, but Strokes and Corners and Cutting are the biggest part of what I do in Illustrator, and such is what I intend to do in AD as well. Thanks.
