Hi guys, I'm using Affinity Photo for Windows and can't seem to find how to adjust the direction of a gradient stroke added to text, all I'm presented with is the attached? The Fill isn't a problem as that's controlled by clicking the Gradient icon. Thanks in advance Neil

Procedural workflow has and is growing and becoming a large driving force in content creation. Something I always knew would be make things very quick to iterate or change, and also keep things consistent and simple, would be referenced colors. So maybe your documents has a palette with named slots, and when you go to select a fill/stroke color, you can optionally select one of these named slots. Other fills or strokes can reference this same slot. Then if you decide you want to change colors later, you simple adjust this palette and every object using those slots gets updated. To extend this concept, it could almost be like symbols but for object appearance where you can have synchronized styles, that way all the parameters are shared, like stroke width, profile, etc.

Hi, It seems that this is similar to the bug that I just posted in Bugs forum for stable version: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/34331-pressure-in-stroke-panel-isnt-applied-to-a-solid-line-type/ However, in 1.5.5 beta 1 this bug behaves somewhat differently. It doesn't revert to solid line at all unless you Reset Pressure. But if you try to modify Pressure again it changes the solid line to the brush last used (and changes its opacity). If the last used textured brush was an image (ex. assorted 196 rope, 128 chains), it displays only solid line and ignores Pressure graph. I couldn't find a way to reset this, like I was able in the stable version's bug. Thanks! Petar

Hi, I've been searching around but I can't seem to find a solution: I have a a simple jpeg file with black text on white background. I want to marquee the text so that I could create a shape/s out of the text. In PS, i would simply magic wand the text, when the marquee comes out, I create paths from selection. I have looked around and I read somewhere that after selection, I can go to Selection>Outline. I can't seem to find that command in my version. I;m using ver 1.5.1.43. Is there any other workaround for this? I know different software need different approach, so I guess I need time to wrap my head around this. Also, I have tried to export the paths from PS but when I open in designer there are no paths! Thanks.

Hello there, I work in AD. The software is great, thanks for that. I need to export to PDF or SVG or EPS, does not matter to me ... including layers, that I could open the file in Adobe Illustrator and could see the layers. I was trying to find out on affinity forum, but I was not successful. Is there a way to do that please? Unfortunately, exporting to PDF does not do the job. Nothing is rasterized and after opening in illustrator there is just one layer instead of 3 created in AD. And what more, there are separated objects, the ones with fill and the ones with strokes. I mean, in AD it is an object with fill and stroke and after exporting to PDF and opening in AI these are two different objects, one with stroke and one with fill. I don't know why is that ? Thanks for help. I attached a file. 1100235_58_ultra_terno.afdesign

I've noticed that pen tool is so laggy and slow. Also there're some lags and distortions when I try to move/drag any object. Are there any ways to solve this issue? Here you can check the gifs I made: http://imgur.com/a/7hpyt Windows10 8GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M

Hi folks, I would like to be able to set much more precisely the gap value of a stroke in Affinity. There is a trick I'm using quite often (in Sketch) which makes able to finely fake a "progress" of the stroke around a circular shape. The point is to set the gap of the stroke as the exact diameter of the circle by multiplying π with it's width (for instance, 500*3.14159265359 if your circle is 500px diameter). This basically means that the gap is now equal to the perimeter of the circle. By changing the Dash value then, we can precise make the stroke grow around the circle. PreciseBorderStrokeProgress.mov Sadly in Affinity, gap value goes from 0 to 100, which simply is way less easy to fine tune, to understand, and also prevent choosing whatever stroke width we want etc. I would love to be able to adjust more precisely these values, but ultimately (and I'm sure you Affinity guys knows exactly what I'm going to say ^^), it would be amazing if you could simply provide a new setting for the stroke: "Progress". With a slider (or precise value input), we could instantly set the progress of a stroke, as well as many other options like how it is etc. Can't wait to hear your thought about it. Cheers.

Insert artboard – wrong size when object has a stroke with Mitre Join. Reproduced on two Macs with non-beta and on Windows with Affinity Designer in beta version. How to reproduce: Create an object eg. rectangle, Set it's stroke width eg. 5pt, Set Join: Mitre Select that object Use Artboard Tool -> Insert Artboard Size of created artboard will be larger than it should be, there is no problem with Brevel and Round Join. As you can see on a picture I attached, there are two rectangles, only difference is the first one has Round Join and the second Mitre Join. Left artboard was created with proper size the second one has strange margin. Sometimes margin is bigger, sometimes smaller – I haven't figured out what it's size depends on.

Hi everyone! If there is a technique to convert single curve into an object which I could cut (mask) afterward? Simply I need to make stroke of text transparent and also I need if the stroke cuts objects behind (my object is just a line made by pen). The image is going to be a transparent sticker and I would like separate a text from a roll( my lines) by empty spaces. I have no idea how to do it in Affinity Designer  I attached example. Thanks a lot

Hey! I have question can i convert strokes to curves ? :)

Allow for saving pressure profiles and be accessed as a dropdown menu- similar to brushes.

- stroke
- pressure profile

Pen and line tools good but if I may suggest a change. In order to change the still I need to draw a line first then add style or line type...it should be if I select a tool type and be able to select object before I draw for example blur blur effect or bevel. This way I can see the effects right away and not have to stop edit then continue drawing.

The value of the stroke width on the context toolbar is not displayed correctly, if two digits or more. affinity-designer-beta 1.5.0.17, in past versions as well

Hey there! Not sure if this may come in handy or much of use, but it would be a cool feature I haven’t seen in any other App so far (if there are any pleas tell me): I was creating these sort of vines for an illustration in Designer and I tried several ways to create this »overlapping« effect, simulating depth. The vines were created with a regular outline/stroke with some pressure simulation. I then started to destructively split the path into several segments and apply gradients on some parts and place other segments on top (see images, I think you see what I’m talking about). Problem here is it needs further adjustments, cause every time the stroke width is slightly changing – that’s when I came up with the idea of a gradient that follows the form and curves of a stroke from start to end. Not sure if something like this is even possible, but let me now what you think. :) Also if anyone has a more convenient way for something this without necessarily cutting or expanding the stroke – I’m listening. ;) Have a nice weekend Dennis

My workflow usually starts importing images from SVG/PDF then customizing them. Then I'm often toggling the stroke "scale with object" setting. It would be fantastic if there was a way to create a shortcut key for this. It wouldn't need to be a default shortcut, but one I could customize with the preferences shortcut keys.

I have an art board with a large Symbol on it which I then duplicate in much smaller scale to additional, smaller art boards. If I create a shape inside the original symbol and set a stroke width of, say 20pt, then the stroke width is an actual 20pt on all copies of the symbol, regardless of their relative scale. I was expecting the stroke to be scaled proportionally. The example shows a 45pt stroke on the circle as set in the 1024pt large art board. You can see it is also 45pt on the smaller art boards, pretty much destroying the design.

Hi, I don't know if this is a bug or a Feature Request, I think is a bug, but I'm not sure, so I'm posting here. The fact is that I can't put a brush (like Texture for exemple) in the stroke of a path, like I can do in Affinity Design. In the Stroke panel there is Properties... button that goes to a Brush panel, but it is all locked! I can't use it. Some one know how I can put brushes in a path in Affinity Photo? Thank you, Paulo

Hi everyone! I bought affinity designer and started using it for my professional work and came across a problem. I want my stroke to have pressure and both ends to be circular but for some reason only one of them is circular and the other one is looking weird. Attached files will help to see what I mean. I cant figure out how to fix this problem.

I would like to be able to add a stroke to a image that is placed in another AD doc. Sometimes for layout, you need a stroke to show your images against light backgrounds.
