what i'm thinking is another slider on the stroke modal window that controls how much the stroke is offset. on closed curves it would read outwards on one side and inwards on the other, or something like that, and i'm not sure for open curves, but it would be leftwards along the normal vector when moved to the left and rightwards when moved to the right.

Hello! So, I've been having some trouble with the pressure curve points. I don't remember if it had also occurred on Designer, but it's pretty common in Photo. I create a line and, when I'm going to set a custom curve, the first and last points are moving in sync. How can I solve this? Sometimes, after lots of clicking, I get them to move individually. Check it out: 2018-09-27_01-00-11.mp4

Hello there, I am drawing on a Wacom Bamboo Slate, which can export your drawings (and writing via a kind of OCR) to text, image formats and SVG. Here's Wacom's specs for the Slate: http://www.wacom.com/en/products/smartpads/bamboo-slate#Specifications The Slate's ballpoint pen is marketed as having 1024 levels of pressure which in theory seems a bit much for a ballpoint pen, but would be nice if it could reproduce the light and heavy strokes you have made on paper. My problem is that the SVG files exported from Wacom's Inkspace app are filled black shapes instead of strokes. The shapes are thicker than the original paper lines, losing most of the line width variance, and I cannot find a way to reduce the width as you would with a stroke. I am attaching an image to illustrate my problem. Any thoughts on how to convert these shapes into strokes so that I could make them thinner? Many thanks in advance! PS there may be an answer in the thread below ('line width is not yet fully supported in the SVG standard'), but I'd like to confirm if something can be done about this using Affinity Designer? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/45452-how-do-i-import-paths-they-keep-turning-into-shapes/#comment-227169

Can anyone tell me what keeps happening to my pencil strokes, and what to do about it? I am drawing using the pencil tool. The thick black stroke in the first image is what I have been using, and it is what I want. However, in the middle of drawing something (in this case, I was tracing the shape that is on the bottom left of both images), all of a sudden all of my strokes disappear (compare images below). The pencil lines are still there, but the thick black part is gone and I'm left with just the thin blue selection lines (not the selection box; I mean the lines that make up the curves themselves are now just thin blue lines). And I don't mean just on the particular curve I've been working on, I mean when this happens every stroke in the document (even on other, supposedly locked layers) has gone from thick black lines to almost invisible thin lines. When I check the stroke settings—brush width, size variance, solid line style, etc.—none of them have changed, but my nice thick black lines are still gone. Changing these settings has no effect, and undoing has no effect—I can undo all the way back to the point at which I first drew each line, and they are still thin blue lines the whole time, not thick black ones. This has happened to me in two different documents so far, and because I can't find a way to fix the lines or undo whatever happened, I have had to start over from scratch, which really blows. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it? I've searched the forums and tutorials for help but haven't found any info. If you reply please have mercy and use laymen's terms. :) I am very new to Affinity Designer, and to graphic design programs in general. Thank you very much.

A few of things about applying strokes to groups: It would be nice to have this working, i.e stroke apply to resulting object, rather than each of the children. Why does applying a stroke to a group containing a pixel layer, essentially apply a fill? When attempting 2, there seems to be a performance issue (high CPU usage).

Hello everybody. I have a question. I made a illustration and I apply a stroke effect on it (with fx, not a direct stroke). For the laser cutting I have to make a 2pt stoke all around the illustration. Can I vectorise the effect to apply a stroke on it (the red on in the picture) ? If not, what is the workflow ? Thanks in advance.

I’m designing a University Style Logo in Affinity Designer, and am using the font you can see in the photos. I’m using a white fill, black stroke and white fx outline. I’m trying to make it so that the black stroke is essentially 100% transparent, so that the stroke takes the colour of the fabric it is printed on. I’ve scoured the internet for how to do this but found no answers. I’ve tried converting to curves and subtracting the black stroke from the white letter behind and nothing. Any help would be tremendous. Thank you.

Hi, I'm wondering if it's possible to mask a stroke in Affinity Designer and keeping it open? As you can see in the image attached, I'm creating a compound object (Stroke + Sphere Shape). Unfortunately the stroke always gets closed after creating the compound object. What I'd like to do instead is to split the stroke in 2 with a sphere mask. This should be done in a non destructive way so that I can adjust the sphere mask later on. Is this possible? Thanks and best regards, Daniel

I built a set of icons (with Affinity Designer) that are intended to be rendered with a non-scaling stroke. The stroke should be 2px regardless of the displayed size. So, I need to be able to: Export SVG files with vector-effect set to non-scaling-stroke in the style. Export PNG files at a few sizes with the same stroke width, meaning both a 32x32 PNG and a 64x64 px PNG would have the same 2px strokes. I understand how to export multiple size PNGs, but the stroke always scales. Is this possible with Affinity Designer?

I have a script with several letters that I need to combine and then stroke, I must combine them or else the stroke is overlapping other letters and does not achieve the desired effect. The problem I am having when Combining or Adding from the OPERATIONS tools the center of the Loops in the letters aren't being knocked out, except for the "o" in the word "Lord". I am stuck and I can not figure out what I am doing wrong. Please Help :-) Thank You! Please take a look at the screenshots below...

I would like to add a stroke to a circle that is distorted as the example below. I tried using a textured brush stroke but none had the same effect as the example. I was able to edit the pressure of a basic brush stroke to somewhat achieve the effect. But, I wanted to ask the community here if I'm missing another feature in Designer that would achieve that look? How would you recreate this? Is there an easier method?

Post correcting vector brushtrokes would be a little more efficient if I could select multiple nodes in the profile pane to quickly edit them or delete certain nodes.

I'm working on a SkillShare tutorial to un-stuck myself and get back in to design. This problem seems silly, but I keep running into little hurdles in Affinity Design that I am having trouble surmounting. The current lesson has the vector watercolor strokes you see in picture one being turned into gradient strokes in picture 2. Picture 2 can probably be accomplished easily with a gradient map, but I'm failing to get the white-to-black transition in either pixel or vector brushes (Designer or Photo). I play with the controller and luminosity settings to no avail — my strokes all look flat and only show lightness or darkness when I overlap them. Suggestions warmly greeted! West Coast Namaste!

Hey So I'm new to this program. Wanted to try a small project. I have a quick png that I created in sai that I wanted to create a vector outline of. Behold the egg of glory. Now I've got my original on its own pixel layer. All the crap is cut out from behind. My layer above is a transparency. Opacity set to 100. I stroke with the pen tool, and?.... I'm left with the awesome skeleton, but no digital ink on the digital canvas. What am I missing?

Is it possible to create a shape from an outline in Affinity Designer? For example if I have a straight line with a set stroke width of 12px which isn't a "closed shape" like it's needed for certain printing techniques: is there some way to create a closed shape from a line with stroke, in this simple case 2 points (line from A to B), to have a shape without outline, with 4 points and a width of 12px? Without doing that completely manually? Edit: Ok, forget it. Found the option in the layer settings via the upper menu. At first I looked in the context menu of the layer, which didn't help much.

Hey! Hope you all are doing well! First Thanks for all that you all do and are working towards! Thanks for providing the community with a great and constantly improving program. After using Affinity Designer, there are a few things from utilizing a tablet and the program that I think would benefit user experience and workflow. - Tablet Options When utilizing a tablet. Having some availability options to change and set keys with the tablets through the app would be great. Also, shape/pressure options within the application as well. I suppose more enhanced support when it comes to tablets. - Expanding stroke. When utilizing this, it seems to over compensate on the strokes causing bigger unproportioned (To the original stroke) shapes and makes it difficult to combine/merge the layers to one full layer. -Dividing shapes. When using this, If there could be an option with how many duplicates it makes. It divides and cuts out all the parts, but it does it by doubling up the parts and i end up having to shift around layers to get it to its original state to start working again. Hope this one makes sense. Ill attach examples. Again thanks for what you all do and are developing there at Serif Labs!

Hi guys, I attached a file showing the bug. Basically, if you have a shape, and you apply a stroke to it and align the stroke inside the object, a thin part of the fill will still be visible outside the stroke, on top and bottom. edit: this bug takes place only if the X or Y coordinates are not whole pixels. The whole pixels thingie is a bit annoying, aligning to middle for example does not respect whole pixels, nor does the text (resizing in points for example) Cheers, Chris stroke-inside.afdesign

Lots of times when I break a curve then play with the stroke pressure profile to widen or shrink the stroke widths... it would be super cool to have a quick flip feature to just switch the profile width direction, instead of doing it manually. Currently we have a "save profile" and "reset" button and there is still room in the centre for a "flip" button or the even repurposing the existing icon from the tool shelf could work here, see attached. :-)

Hi In Photoshop is possible to create outline from selection. I can use Outline to create same, but quality is quite awful. Another way would be to create path from selection. Is it already in roadmap and when it would appear to AP? - Nikolai
