  1. I've been given a print-ready PDF as a starting point for an update. Can I assume that if spot colours were used in the original document that they will appears as spot colours after importing to Designer?
  2. Having a play around with Designer Beta (1.9.1.1) - Glad to see compounds are working properly again - and seems to be really stable Just thought I'd test out how easy it is now to create muti-spot (kind of duo or triple-tone) now that 'convert to image resource' is a right click away - glad to say it's working great, and although some might say it involves a bit of faff to get the results, it's way way less faff than the old way - Well Done Matt PšŸ‘ Screen_Grab_2021-02-16_at_12_18_00.mov
  3. I've a design going to print but because of the process involved I have been asked to separate fine line content (small text and thin lines) from filled areas (polygons) and assign them to two separate spot colours, even though they are printed using the same colour. In AD I can set up two different spot colours referencing the same Pantone colour from the swatches, name them differently and assign them to the associated objects in the design. However, when I come to export it seems that the same (first) colour is used for both groups of objects. Honour Spot Colours is checked in the export settings. So, is this a limitation of the PDF format (I'm guessing not as I wouldn't have expected the printer to ask for this), or just how the export works trying to consolidate colours? Any thoughts on the correct way to do this? (My "safety net" is to tweak one of the colours slightly but instruct the printer to ignore the preview colour and use the same Pantone reference for them both).
  4. It seems that Spot Colours in eps files are not supported... If I import/place an eps file with spot colours defined, these spot colours aren't imported into the swatches panel. If I select "Create Palette From Document > As Document Palette" I get a whole list of colours, none of them actually appear on the page. If you want to delete this palette, this doesn't work: Select Delete Palette from the Swatches Drop down menu, a pane appears asking you to confirm that you want to delete the palette, click "Yes" and thePalete is still there. The eps file seems to have been converted to a CMYK object because if you export the page as a pdf with "Honour Spot Colours" ticked it outputs the spot colours as cmyk. So you can't print separations from the pdf file.
  5. Hello When I export an image with spot colours as TIFF or EPS, the spot colours don't appear in the exported image. It looks like they are converted to CMYK. They do appear in an exported PDF but I haven't checked any other format. Thanks! Bauke
  6. Hello all, I'm working on Designer to create an advertising banner (to be printed). I'm exporting to CMYK PDF. The printing company requires "all spot colours to be converted to CMYK before creating the PDF". Does this have anything to do with the option "Honour spot colours"? You can find attached the presets I've used. Many thanks for your help. Nic
  7. Hi all. Maybe this is too much to ask at this time, and I know I've already mentioned this earlier, but I've been testing Affinity Designer periodically for proper spot colour gradient support (sometimes I miss a beta or two and I may skip the one that finally brings that feature to the table, hence my method). I cobbled up two similar files in Affinity and Illustrator, with gradients from spot colour to spot colour, spot colour to white, and spot colour to 0% opacity spot colour, and exported them to .PDF. For good measure, I also threw in a 50% opacity spot colour as a control swatch. After opening both files on Acrobat Pro and checking the Output [separation] Preview, I was a bit disheartened to see that Affinity still supports flat spot colour transparency only, whereas gradients are all converted/flattened into CMYK. For now, I can accept this omission, and the fact that it may be due to technical limitations in Affinity's engine or something, but I'm obviously expecting much more from it in the future (and that may include Affinity Photo duo/multitone support too, perhaps?), especially for colour-critical work like in logos, where tight budgets for print production more often than not call for the use of spot colours (and, yes, that also includes spot colour gradients). Though this would be fairly easy to correct (especially for simpler artwork) via a small trip through Illustrator before sending my work to the printing shop, I would really love to ditch it altogether from my workflow, and this would be yet another proverbial nail in its coffin. Can you comment on the feasibility of such a feature and maybe give us a rough ETA? Thanks guys. Once again, kudos for your great work! Pantone test.afdesign Pantone Test-AD.pdf Pantone Test-AI.pdf
  8. Hi, does Affinity allow for: 1. Overprint - I need to overprint certain colours for final print output. 2. Overprint Preview 3. Separations Preview - this is vital in seeing the final output of colours prior to going to print (other than printing physical seps). 4. Spot Colours - In the interim, does Affinity support spot colours - even if its not Pantone Book colours, I then can name it a pantone for the printers reference.
