  1. A friend sent me an AP file in which a dot had appeared near the bottom centre when exported to a PDF for print. Even after I had deleeted every item of text, every picture, that I could se from the leaflet, the spot remained stubbornly on the page in exactly the same place when expoterd to PDF. Has anyone experience this? And the solutioon? DAVID NORTHGATE FINAL A4 FOCUS.pdf
  2. Hey guys, I can't seem to find a way to convert process colours to spot in Affinity Publisher Beta. Not quite sure if there is a way yet. When I'm doing a print job that has a die-line, perf, fold line, etc, I usually set them up as a spot colour. In InDesign I usually convert one of the colours (either cyan, magenta, yellow, black, or whatever) from Color Type: Process to Color Type: Spot and then assign a name to each (like die-line). Is there a way to do something like that in Affinity Publisher at the moment? Thanks!
  3. I've been given a print-ready PDF as a starting point for an update. Can I assume that if spot colours were used in the original document that they will appears as spot colours after importing to Designer?
  4. Overall Publisher seems to have many features. But their workflow with spots inks is pretty weak or simply don't work. I know Affinity just released the first beta; indeed, this is just the time to request this. Many proffessional works are done with spot inks (maybe a background hard to print in CMYK, maybe they need a rich orange/green/blue ink). Also the little works, due to be cheap using only two spot inks instead of full CMYK. Things to be implemented or improved: - We need a more streamlined workflow with spot inks. Currently it's a pain. We don't have a way to see all current colours of the document (spot inks or any other color); we can only have the option to create a custom palette wich don't works with spot inks (it converts your spot inks to color space document colors -CMYK in my case-). Currently, the most easy way to see your document spot inks it's export to PDF and open your exported file with Acrobat Proffessional. - We need overprint control. This is a must. - Object styles don't export when you use spot inks. - Publisher considers spot inks as "unsupported features" when you export PDF. This converts all you vector works (external documents placed) with spot inks to images, even with PDFX 3 preset. Disabling "convert to image unsupported features" allows to export your linked vector files with spot inks. - Publisher don't recognize AI, EPS colours, spot inks or CMYK. Tested with Illustrator 8 files. Things to be implemented in future updates: - Ink preview options will be very appreciated. Specially overprint and ink separations (just as Indesign and Illustrator). Sorry for any misspell, i'm not a native english speaker. BTW there's some spanish bugs, i will report them when fully translated betas are released.
  5. Hello, I have a problem. I want to create a PDF for printing. The background should be transparent except where the photo is. The photo should be backed with the special color "Spot1". Can someone explain how to do this?
  6. Hi there! Quick question. I started making global Pantone colors for my doc. I marked only two of four colors as spot colors. When I select "edit global color" to switch them to spot colors, the option isn't in the little dialogue box that pops up. Is there somewhere else in the program that I can edit that option? Thanks in advance for any help with this! Stephen:)
  7. Just answered a post and considered a few additions to the swatches panel. When right-clicking on a colour fill swatch you have the option to Make Global effectively changing a fill colour to a global colour, but, once a colour has been converted to a global colour, that global colour should have its own context menu that would include... Make Global Spot Make Global Overprint Revert Global (this would revert the colour swatch back to a global fill that can be used to change colours within a document en masse)
  8. Perhaps this is a user error, and not a bug, but it's driving me bonkers. Help! I have a 20-page publication for a client I handle every other month, and each month they like having a new color theme. I have always handled this by creating a global spot color, and then editing that color each month so that all colors change across the document. One edit, and everything updates! This seems to work fine with everything aside from Drop Cap styles. I want the Drop Cap to refer to the theme color. I have a special Drop Cap Character style that is linked (supposedly) to the global spot color. This Drop Cap Character style is referred to in a Paragraph Style, which I apply to the first paragraph of each article, with a Next Style of the regular non-Drop Cap text. EACH MONTH I go through the agony of having to open and edit the Drop Cap color. Otherwise, for whatever reason, when I apply the Paragraph Style, it pulls the OLD spot color from the previous issue, instead of the updated Spot Color. In fact, I have to open the Character Style, select another swatch, CLOSE the style, then OPEN IT AGAIN, and select the global spot color and close the style again for it to update correctly. Nothing else seems to work. I have paragraph rules that also refer to this spot color and update just fine. I have various graphic elements at various tints that refer to this spot color and update just fine. I even have tables that refer to this spot color and update just fine. It only seems to be Drop Cap that is affected. Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong, or if this is a bug. Thanks! (I am running the Publisher Beta 1.7.0.257, though this has been an issue for months and I simply haven't bothered to report it. I'm an a 2017 MacBook Pro running OS 10.14.3.)
  9. I've had an enquiry for some A5 and try-fold leaflets set up in black and 1 spot colour so thought I'd run a few test in Publisher and just made a quick screen vid capturing Affinity's amazing flexibility - I remember having a go in Designer around two years ago and having to give up - just shows how things have improved - would still love to be able to use masks so as to get soft edges on some things (spots always seems to turn out CMYK with a mask in my tests) but I'm really chuffed that it all separates correctly Spot.mov
  10. Hello When I export an image with spot colours as TIFF or EPS, the spot colours don't appear in the exported image. It looks like they are converted to CMYK. They do appear in an exported PDF but I haven't checked any other format. Thanks! Bauke
  11. Hi I was wondering if there was any consideration of including object level overprint selection in the near future? I recently had to do some tricky overprint settings for a packaging project, and in the end I had to make copies of pantone colors one overprinted the other not and then apply the colors to the objects as requited.. unlike illustrator where you can set all the elements to the spot color then just apply overprint to the relevant elements, I hope that made sense. Cheers
  12. Hi, Any idea wether there wil be a possibility to 'geotag' pics in Affinity Photo in the near future? Thx for the follow up on this thread. Keep up the good work! NemesisSensei
  13. Hi, I'm working on a project that has a selective white undercoat, then a graphics (image layer) background texture, and then text / lines on top. I want the text/lines to 'knock out' the graphics image but not the white undercoat. If I set the 'overprint' option on the text color, then it doesn't cut out the graphics layer, but if I don't set it, then it knocks both the graphics and the white undercoat. Is there some way e.g. to set the 'image' to also get knocked out, or some other easy way to do this? Thanks. -Mike
  14. Hi, just starting out with Designer, so not sure if it's operator error or a bug, but I'm having problems with an Overprinting Spot Color getting "knocked out" by other items on other layers. I defined an Overprinting Spot Color and used it to fill an area on one layer, then added various text and line items on an upper layer. When I export it as PDF/X-1a, the area that’s supposed to be overprinted gets knocked out by the other items. Interestingly, I noticed that if I specify an Opacity of less than 100%, then it seems to keep the overprint for lines but not for text. I have all the layer modes set to ‘Passhrough’ except the first (which is only used for testing the overprint region and not included in the final output. So, is there something I’m doing wrong or is this a bug? Thanks. -Mike KBGraphicsOverlay.afdesign
  15. Hey there, what I'm missing so far regarding the swatches panel: - Easy renaming workflow of swatches with F2 and Tab, and to go further: something like Renamy would be even more awesome - Select and delete/copy multiple swatches. At least it should be possible to click/select and delete via DEL-key to easliy clear up the swatches - "remove unused colors"-option to quickly clean up a palette - usecase would be mostly the the document-related palettes - Convert already added swatches to Global/Spot-Colors - Ability to easily set spot-color-name the same as swatch-name and vice versa (without copy-paste, perhaps with a checkbox in the settings of each swatch) - Missing a direct "Add current color to palette as Spot Color" very much! - The to "Add current color to palette [...]"-Icons are not very distinctive. I would've added at least a big triangle in the left bottom corner of the button regarding the "add as global color" option to suit the appearance of those color in the swatch-list/grid below - Setting/checkbox/action to add swatches via "create Palette from document/image" directly as Global/Spot-colors. - Indicator to see in which Colormode the color originally was created and then have the ability to quickly switch color from RGB to CMYK-Mode and vice versa (perhaps even be able to determine the rendering/conversion while doing so) Greetings, Johannes.
  16. Hi! I've been trying to prepare one of my clients business card design for printing using cold foil to give certain elements a metallic effect. To do this I need spot colours for the elements that I want to give the metallic effect to (might have to add overprint as well). Spot colours seem to only apply to color fills and not to outlines so these need to be expanded first. The logo, however, is made up of advanced brushes which apparently cannot be expanded. Simply recreating the logo isn't an option either because it's one of those dry brush effects. Is there any way to get these designs ready for cold foil printing when expanding isn't an option? Any help or advice would be really appreciated as I'm nearing the deadline.
  17. I need to create a file for printing via Flyeralarm where a portion of the file will receive UV coating. I've done this before with other printers where you upload a separate file, highlighting in black what you'd like to receive the coating, but it's different with Flyeralarm and I can't figure out what I have to do: http://www.flyeralarm.com/sheets/en/gruss_qg_mass_uvl.pdf. I've included the design file I'm working with... I need the logo to receive the coating. Please help! save the date_front.afdesign
  18. Good work peeps, every update the freehand vector brush tool improves and gets quicker and more fluent I'm hoping it's gonna be as great as Manga studio vector pen brush or mischief with the added ability to export and use in a pro manor - just did some exports to pdf and all vector info is retained, whereas in the previous version it would rasterise most of the vector work - the attached pic is a character Eric Idol who is the band mascot for the band THE IDOL DEAD - I'd love to be able to do the next ldol Dead job with affinity now things are getting quicker - but it's a new tour T-shirt which requires Halftones and spots - DAMN! looks like it's back to illustrator and Vectoraster or Manga studio (AWESOME HALFTONES but no vector or spot output) and InDesign - IF ONLY..............
