  1. Hello. Does anyone know how to install custom dictionaries for Publisher 2 on a macbook running Ventura 13.3.x? I found these instructions, but the OS seems to have changed now: there is no longer a Library/Spelling folder, and the Keyboard system settings do not have the options described here. I created ~/users/username/Library/Spelling, and pasted the dictionaries, in en_GB and then in the root, but I cannot find out how to make the option appear to use them. I am trying to add additional dictionaries rather than replacement ones (they have scientific names of plants and animals, not all English words).
  2. Greetings, I did a search and found some other issues with the spell checker, but I couldn't find this exact issue. If this is a duplicate, I apologize. I am using all 3 programs Publisher, Photo, and Designer, on a Windows 11 PC/Laptop. After I click to Add or "Learn" a word to my dictionary, it will stay until I close and then reopen the program. Then I almost immediately start seeing the red squiggle line under that word again. Two of the biggest added words that I noticed are "LLC" and "BOOFOLA" (a company's name). I do not know if Photo is doing this or not yet. I very seldom do text in my Photo program. Thank you and I hope to see this fixed in future updates.
  3. Hi everyone, I'm an Affinity 2.0 user working with Windows and I'm german - hopefully I'm gonna find the right words I'm writing a technical book with many pictures and many words unknown to standard spellcheck... Until now I wrote in MS-Word and already added the words to the Office custom.dic spellbook. I work on a desktop and on a powerful laptop computer. MS Office syncs the spellbooks, so everything is ok on both devices. Now I'd rather work on the book in publisher and - of course - all the "added" words (in MS-Word) are unknown to Publisher. As there is the possibiliy to put .dic files in an additional folder (...Data/Affinity/Common/2.0/Dictionaries) I copied the Office spellbook to there - with no effect. After tryting for half an hour or so, I decided to just add all the missing words manually. That took more than an hour until now - and I don't have the half of it done... 😞 Besides the work I already did, I would have to do it all over again on the laptop??? Definitively NOT! There has to be a way to add the words or the custom.dic spellbook?! The additional Dictionary-Folder has to be there for a reason? Thanks a lot for help 🙂 Ralf
  4. in Affinity Designer v1, you can always untick the spellcheck feature (spell checking while typing) on the menu of text panel every time you open up your document. I can’t do the same on v2. It does say you can do so from the help menu though. I do need this spellchecker although it would be nice if you can toggle it on off whenever you like doing so on the file itself.
  5. One of the most tedious parts of finalizing a Publisher file for print is the last spell check. Inevitably, it flags all emails and URLs as unknown words. I have to go through all of these, ignoring or 'adding to dictionary' just to find the few outliers. Is there some way to tell Affinity to not bother with anything with an @? Or .com .net .org etc. in it?
  6. I have "Check Spelling While Typing" selected, but words are not being underlined. If I try to execute "Check Spelling" I get an error that there's no dictionary installed for Canadian English. I'm happy to use British English, but not sure where I select this. The folder "C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Common\1.0\Dictionaries" is empty - this can't be right can it? Thanks Neel
  7. Multilingual spellcheck do not work on iOS. Application text panel lucks language selector for spelling, so you can check only English grammar. And in the other hand MacOS app has that selector in the panel. Also should mention, that in my case I needed Russian spellchecker. Looking forward for that small bug fix. Thank you.
  8. Hello! I find my situation ironic, as I dealt with all my US English text being underlined because it wasn't UK English for the longest time, and now that I need UK English checks, it simply won't come up in AP. I am attaching multiple screenshots here, as I'm at my wit's end as to why I cannot get UK English to show up as a spell check option. First, I checked my system languages, realized English (UK) wasn't listed there under 'Preferred languages', added it, and restarted my computer. However, it doesn't matter if I go into the Text Style panel, the AP preferences itself, or the character panel, no where does English (UK) show up as a language option. But it does show up under the Hyphenation panel. My mind is blown. I don't see how it would affect anything, but I added the British keyboard layout to my system preferences, and restarted my computer once again. I'm getting the same results. English (UK) doesn't show up as an option for spelling. There is, however, a en-GB folder in the AP Resources folder. What do I do to get English (UK) to show up as a spellcheck/language option? Do I dare copy the en-GB data file elsewhere, delete it from the AP folder, then drag and drop in an attempt to 'reinstall'? Will this break anything? I cannot think of anything else to do. Help! I am on Mac OS 10.15.5 / AP 1.8.4
  9. The spell checker for a text body does not work at all. I select the text then top menu > text > spelling > spelling options. I then get the pop up window that does nothing at all.
  10. Hi, I can only get my spellcheck in Affinity Designer (Windows) to work if I go to the language section at the bottom of the character panel and change it to English (British). The problem is that it won't stay as the default. For each new document I need to set it. If I open a previous document from when it wasn't working, I need to select the text first before it will use the British English language. It keeps using Unknown (en-Au). Does anyone know how to set it as the default please?
  11. Where do I find the proper dictionaries to be use with A.D. for spellchecking? So far I know the dictionaries are to be added to [on WIN] "ProgramData\Affinity\Common\1.0\Dictionaries What I don't know nor can't seem to find is where the Affinity spellchecking dictionary are located at. !? Could one just use dictionaries from the Mozilla's Firefox or LibreOffice repositories without issues? Thanks
  12. As a professional graphic designer who seeks to replace Photoshop and Illustrator by Photo and Designer, I would have these humble suggestions what to add to Affinity Photo for iPad: Possibility to switch off spellcheck in global settings. It is annoying to switch it off in the Text Studio every time after opening a file. Select all visible pixels of a layer by one click. Text on a path (so we can make a curved text). Paint a pen stroke with a selected brush. More filters (like image to sketch etc.). I know some of these features were allready rejected to add by the developer because they have said, Affinity Photo is just for editing photos and we should use Affinity Designer for design. Dear developer, please, reconsider this. I have, and I believe many others these days, been using Affinity Photo as a replacement for Photoshop (and Designer as a replacement for Illustrator). If we want to make a design primarily based on raster graphic, or prefer this way of work more, we go to Photo and make the design there. If we want to make something typically vector, like logos, we go to Designer. You do not need to be afraid that we will not use Designer because we would make everything in Photo. We just need a raster focused tool with also vector tools (Photo) and vector focused tool with raster tools (Designer). In other words, replace Photoshop and Illustrator, that is it. If you want to win us, please, reconsider viewing Affinity Photo as just a better photo editing tool. Also please consider, that we are already using some of these features in Affinity photo by means of macros. There is a famous set called "Mud's Macros v3" including e.g. Slection from Layer, Pencil Sketch filter and Text on a Curve. Hopefully this will be understood by the developers. I should also say that you did already a great job!
  13. I reported this bug in the Publisher Beta forum a week ago and didn't receive a response. It is also a bug in the retail version 171.404. If I use the Place function to import text into a publisher file, the auto spellcheck identifies words not in the dictionary but is unable to add those words using "Learn" It cannot "Unlearn" either. The History shows that even if the word is fully highlighted it isn't being detected and Publisher records it as an empty string. This only seems to occur when the Text Frame is created in a Master Page and not when a Text Frame is created on a document page. Publisher Spell Check Test Doc.afpub Publisher Spell Check Test.docx Extra - Learn doesn't work at all on pages in Text Frames created on Master Pages - Major bug in my view.
  14. Is there a way to disable spellcheck, or at least the wavy lines in Designer?
  15. Hello, is there a way in affinity publisher to mark/highlight spelling error and word spacing errors like they do in microsoft word???
  16. I am using English as the main language on my iPad, but edit many Designer documents that contain german text. Now, some spellchecker does it's job and underlines most of the text with red dots in Designer. I have all spellchecking features under iOS settings turned off, and can't find any in Designer. Is there any other place where I can look? TLDR: I want all spellchecking turned off by default in Designer. And Photo, should it behave the same.
  17. Firstly, great to be able to have a look at Publisher for Windows - it looks really good. Small problem: although the language is (correctly) set to UK English in Preferences, the spellcheck marks 'centre' as an error, but not 'center'. It looks like it is checking US English.
  18. I have a document that uses tables, during translation it was very difficult for the translation service to recreate the table so I am now recreating them and pasting the translated text into a table image. All the text is red (as it is in Welsh). I did a quick browse of the forum and saw that you would need to add the word considered as miss-spelled to the dictionary. Thats' hundreds of words. Is there a way to turn of spell checking please? Please don't tell me this can't be done in a graphics program where any number of words are created or intentionally miss-spelled?
