  1. I think I'm missing something very obvious here but the Slice sector tool in Export Persona, will not let me select or adjust a slice size. (AD v1.6.1) Any ideas?
  2. I was downloading my image to an online service that would create multiple images from a single photo. I use these and transfer each image to a ceramic tile. Often this means over 500 separate tiles (for example an image divided into a grid of 25 columns and 25 rows of separate ceramic tiles. I understand how to create slices in the export personna. What I would like to know is if there is a way to, for example create a single slice of, say, 100 pixels x 100 pixels and then copy that so that I do not have to create each tile individually and move it into place. Right now I have to create the 100x 100 slice, put it in the upper left corner. Then place the cursor over a corner of that slice and create an entirely new slice of the same size. That would mean individually making hundreds of slices manually and moving them. When I send this to an online site all I have to do is send them the photo and tell them how many columns and rosw and they send me all the individual jpg images that I needf, one for each ceramic tile that I will transfer the images to. I have seen some android programs that will do this also, but I was wondering if there is a way to do this, automatically" in affinity photo or even one of the other affinity programs. The image attached shows the first several slices that I made individually.
  3. Hey All! I create a Magazine using AP. In there I have set up my canvas 42.5 inches, by 66" long. I then set up Guides every 8.5" on the Hor. and 11" on the Vert. I need to be able to export along those guides each at the appropriate guide size 8.5" at the 300DPI and CMYK/8 to sent to my Print lab. TIA SurJones :)
  4. I would like to be able to configure layer visibility for each slice independently. This would help iterating export of many slightly different designs.
  5. Everytime I try to export slices the file output is always the wrong dimensions. Everytime i export something it exports as 1920x1080. I need my exports to be 64x64 px. What could be causing it to export with the wrong dimensions? I should note that I dont use artboards in my current projects setup. Could this possibly have something to do with the wrong exported file dimensions?
  6. I started this thread a while back , but no answers, still doing this on new version. Thanks Gary
  7. At the moment, at least as far as I understand, a slice is only output at its current resolution (and multiples for iOS devices 1x, 2x and forthcoming 3x) as per its size on the canvas. It would be great if there was a way to manually set the output file resolution per slice. So for example, if a slice is set up for a section say 100 x 100 pixels on the canvas, a custom output size, such as 360 x 360 pixels could be specified for the target file. This would provide great flexibility. Multiple slices for the same area would then allow many different output resolution images to be generated for the same graphic (eliminating the need for having the 1x, 2x etc options). The additional target output size settings would ideally be placed on the 'export options' panel and would contain a means of optionally fixing the aspect ratio and also be saved as part of the preset. Default presets could include 'iOS 1x Icon', 'iOS 2x Icon' etc. I hope this makes sense. Fantastic, user friendly app! Keep up the excellent work.
  8. When exporting images/Slices, is there a way to change individual file paths? I would like to export x number of Slices of the same file name to various locations.
  9. I found great functionality of Designer in exhibition design, when I can maintain a generic view of a large wall of exhibition, while setting different export scenarios for different parts of general design: Parts must be printed with background and cropmarks in cmyk Parts must be cnc'd or cut without background I always need to maintain a general view for reviews, a small-sized pdf I often need to have parts of general design to use as textures in 3d software. Sometimes in different resolutions. Slices help me achieve this from a single, smartly constructed file, and in theory it is far superior than Adobe's Illustrator. So far, I have two issues with this. It is frustrating to break this workflow in cases where I have to deal with hyphenation. I have to finish-up hyphenated texts of exhibition in another software, and also break the well-maintained general view. It is difficult to get layer-independent slices in precise locations. If you draw a slice manually, snapping weirdly does not work. Precise positions of slices are essential in my case.
  10. I can't seem to figure out how to delete slices that are created around individual objects?
  11. I want to export all layers! And I know there is the slice feature, but i don't want the slice box to be directly on the object i want the slice to be exactly the same size as my previously selected layout. I also know that I can change the slice, but not if I mark several slices.. So I have to pull each slice individually onto the edge .. Is there any better solution?
  12. Would it be possible to allow some of my export slices to ignore certain layers, but others to include them? I'm often working on multi-layered images for use in games, and every time I export i have to turn off specific layers beforehand. I appreciate the current option to set layers to not be exported, but I'd prefer some more power to limit certain layers to certain slices, so I can export the foreground, middle and foreground objects cleanly.
  13. Hi, I use very mucho the slices and always whey I creat a slices from a layer, the slices don't fit for 1 or 2 pixeles. I search in a lot of places for fix the problem, but I only found that this problems don't have a solution for know. Thanks
  14. I just came across a workflow stumbling block while working on letterheads with Publisher and delivering them as MS Word templates. There were multiple variations of the letterheads for different departments, which were created as different pages in Publisher in a single document based on common Master Pages My workflow was as following: Design everything in Publisher Create slices of header and footer for export to PDF Iterate on the design in Publisher until approved by client Place PDF graphics of header and footer in Word, recreate text that needs to be editable and text styles in Word, make color Palettes via PowerPoint (due to Microsoft logic) Last minute fixes: Make changes in Publisher, re-export the slices and replace the images in Word Deliver MS Word templates and color palette files To my knowledge, this is a pretty standard workflow for doing branding projects where MS Office templates are required. Since Publisher has no Export persona, I created my slices for my letter header and footer by opening the Publisher document inside Photo. Trouble is, Designer and Photo only support one page. When opening a document, they always just display Page 1. This can be circumvented by opening the file via the File menu in Publisher. In that case they will open the page that is currently active in Publisher. For me that meant that I had to go my target page in Publisher, use the menu to open that page in Photo, create my slices, save, close, re-open in Publisher, go to the next page, create my slices and so on. This is not only very cumbersome, but it also makes it really difficult to copy slices, settings or dimensions to keep them consistent across pages. Imagine that I find that I want my footer slice to be a bit larger after all because one version has some extra elements and I want them to be a consistent size – I'd have to close, re-open the document in Photo via Publisher for every single page and make my edits while remembering the dimensions to type in. The same applies to exporting the slices after a design change – when not using continuous export (haven't tested if that works from Publisher), this workflow also requires closing and re-opening the file for each page I want to re-export slices from. Imagine a change on a master page with slices on a 15 page document. That's a waste of time and unnecessarily frustrating. I guess the limit on page navigation was imposed onto Designer and Photo to prevent people from just downloading blank files with multiple pages and using those instead of buying Designer or Photo. My proposed solution would be to offer page navigation in the Export persona in both Designer and Photo. Then just always return to the default page 1 when going back to the main Photo or Vector persona if Publisher is not installed. Another possibility would be to take it further and globally enable page navigation in Photo and Designer if Publisher is installed, similar to the Vector and Photo personas in Publisher. The last option would be to add the Export persona to Publisher, but I'd say that's probably overkill.
  15. Latest release, Have two artboards, left, right. on right i have custom slice (manually drawed) then i delete left artboard.. so the left top corner of the right artboard become x0,y0 of whole document sadly, the slice isnt re-calculated and stays on its place, now out of artboard.
  16. Hi, I create UI for work and we often have reusable elements in our designs; when these are exported they have the same name but different X Y coordinates on the page. I'd like to start using Affinity for this but there is a slight issue. Currently when Affinity exports two Slices with the same name, it adds a number to the file name of the repeat slices. Is there a way to disable/override this? My goal is to have only one of the repeat slices exported but still have the coordinates for each in the Batch Builder export. Also it would be great to have some more advanced control on the Batch Builder presets in future hehe
  17. Windows 10 Home 1809, Designer 1.7.0.209 NOTE: Please ignore the export issue in this post. I was put right on that but the grid/guides getting reset is still an issue. I have a document - attached - where, when I delete the "Backgrounds" layer, the grid is reset to the default and my export slices are deleted. Try: * loading the document; * looking at how the grid is set-up (11px); * going to the Export persona and looking at the export slices (should be 27, not all included in export); * then go back to the Vector persona and delete the "Backgrounds" layer. The grid has now gone back to the default and all of the manually-created export slices (named with "slice" and "Icon") have gone. What have I done wrong? Or, what bit of the functionality am I not aware of? Surely the grid and export slices can't be 'part of' a layer? That sounds wrong to me. The slices were created from the rectangles in "Backgrounds" but I don't think the slices should be deleted when I delete the rectangles as the rectangles were only created because the "Add Slice" function doesn't - in my experience - snap to the grid or guides so that was the only way I could create exact slice positions/sizes without a lot of manual work. Even if there's some odd thing about export slices that I don't know about, I really don't think the grid should be reset when I delete a layer. On a related note, when I have the original document and I set the "Backgrounds" layer to not be visible in export, items within it still show up in export, which is a bit weird. I've tried all kinds of ways to get the rectangles from showing up in the export - including setting them to invisible individually - but they just won't go away. Might be a related thing, or might be something else entirely, just thought I'd add it. P.S. After switching off - and making transparent - everything to do with the layers in "Backgrounds", when I try to export the "Icon" slices I can see the icons on the canvas but they're blank in the Slices studio and I just get 'empty' SVGs on export. P.P.S. Just dragging the "Backgrounds" layer out of the artboard will reset the grid but the export slices remain. grid-and-slices-on-209.afdesign
  18. Hi folks, I'm new to this app and looking into slices to simplify a specific workflow... I can't tell if my failure to figure this out is my unfamiliarity with the app or perhaps it's not meant to do what I want. A description: Given: a single source image (may be portrait or landscape) Wanted: To create n different output assets of different sizes and orientations, with the ability to replace the image for a given size if manual cropping/resizing is insufficient to produce a viable composition. To complicate matters, the use case also has overlays (these images are backgrounds for use in an app that presents on different sized devices) which means that images with lots of negative space need to be massaged more depending on where the "important" parts of the image are. I've attached a version set (apparently I can't attach all the images, but what did attach shows the range -- the original is 3072x2048 in this case and there's a 2732x1048 that failed as well) that I've done manually in another app to give a visual of the resize/recomposition I'm describing... is there some way I could use slices to import the original once, manipulate the slices individually to create a result like the manual example, then take advantage of the single export to get the workflow improvement I'm looking for? If not, given the description, is there a suggested different approach that might be better than the lather-rinse-repeat of manipulating the frames individually? Thanks! -brad
  19. I've been messing around with export persona and slices, and I'm trying to figure this out: I'm creating a heightmap for a game and I'm using a series of snapped squares to keep scale. What I'm trying to do is draw an image in a lay over all of these squares, then select a square and use it to create a slice that will export the corresponding part of the top layer. Unfortunately I keep on ending up with appropriately-sized blank squares or the entire image exported, or both. I'm not quite sure how the selection works; if someone could explain this to me it would be much appreciated.
  20. Hello, it would be great, if the Export Persona could export a file (e.g. csv format) with the names and coordinates of the slices. Best, Chris
  21. How do you do this? Been fiddling with slices in export persona but if you create a slice from layer it creates a massive bounding box around the whole layer and there is no option to clip it to the artboard.
  22. Maybe I've just missed it but... In slices mode: - you can't snap to grid ( except the pixel grid apparently ) - you can't copy a slice with alt/drag - you can't rename layers to make slice names - there's no contextual menu on the right click Please put some work into this feature and bring it up to scratch!
  23. Hi all, This was a part of another question that I had that seem to get a bit lost in the details of the second section of my question so I thought I'd reposted the separate thread here in the hope of getting some help. I am a photographer and so I am not really likely to use slices in the sense of slicing up an image since I don't really do much web design work but what I would like to do is that output one image in a range of sizes and/or formats to subfolders. I can set this up in the Slices panel as you can see from the first of my attached screenshots. Having set this up I would love to save this is a batch export setup so that the next photograph I open I can export to 3 locations (in this example) as a full-size JPEG, a JPEG is 1000 pixels across and a PSD. But when I hit the drop down as shown in the second screenshot the options are greyed out that would allow me to do this clearly I'm doing something wrong. Actually, I just see that if I draw a slice of a particular size within an image I am then able to create an export preset stop does that mean that it's simply impossible to do what I'm hoping? Thanks, Phil
  24. Hi. I have created web design layout like 20+ pages (artboard). Most artboard is created by duplicating previously created artboard. When it's time for exporting using export-persona, but I am really disappointed that Affinity Designer didn't create slices from my artboards (the only slices created are my first 5 artboards that I created using "Insert Artboard" button. Now, what I really need is a simple button like "Create Slices from Artboards" that will generate slices from existing unsliced artboards, with artboard names as the slice names. Thanks.
  25. Hi all, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around saving for web with export persona. I need to save for web in different sizes and for different screen resolutions. My filenames have to follow this naming conventions: myfile@2x.jpg myfile.jpg myfile_medium.jpg myfile_medium@2x.jpg etc. How can I achieve this? I know I can choose from presets like 2x in the slices panel in export persona. However, choosing 2x for example doubles the pixel size (in other words: interpolates the image) which is not what I want. I tried various other setting options without fully understanding it. Please have a look at the screenshot attached and you will understand my questions. Thanks for your help and replies!
