  1. Hi, My first time creating a topic on this forum, please excuse any errors / oversights. Today I encountered this error on Affinity Designer 1.8.5.703 on Windows 10. I had 6 artboards in a file. I created slices and exported jpegs and closed the file. Later on when modifications were done to some of the artboards and ready for exporting slices again, the file kept on crashing when the slices panel was opened. On searching the forums for similar issues reported by others, I came across this (and other similar) thread(s):- I think this issue was addressed earlier, but has resurfaced in this version. I updated Affinity Designer to 1.8.5.703 last Saturday (19th Sept 2020) from the earlier version 1.8.4.x. Since my workflow (almost always) involves creating multiple artboards and exporting slices I can say with confidence that I have never encountered this issue earlier, i.e. since Nov 2019 when I began using Affinity Designer. In the meanwhile, I copied the artwork to a new file and refrained from creating slices. The new file has been behaving OK. Please let me know if you require additional inputs from me.
  2. Hi I'm using Affinity Designer to create icons. I a single layer, I have an icon with 7 sizes. My slices names as like this: _16x16 _32x32 _64x64 etc. When I'm in the Export Persona, I select "Slices" and clicks "Export slices", then I enter a name like "MyIcon". Is there a way to tell Affinity Designer to merge the exported filename "MyIcon" into the slicename, så the slice names will end up as... MyIcon_16x16 MyIcon_32x32 MyIcon_64x64 ...? That way I can reuse the layer, change the icons and export it with a new name like "MyNewIcon" and it will automatically export slices as .. MyNewIcon_16x16 MyNewIcon_32x32 MyNewIcon_64x64 I would like to call the slice names something like... {filename}_16x16 {filename}_32x32 {filename}_64x64 etc. Thanks
  3. I want to suggest making it possible to keep the original files exif/metadata in ALL slices set. As far as I understood only the very first slice which is automatically set (not really a slice, but just the whole thing called by the projects name) keeps that data since it works with the same engine as the default export function (the one you can use over Data>Export from everywhere, which you can set to delete all exif data if you want). All other manually set slices will always loose their exif data and there is no option to change that! I imagine it to be not that hard to implement it that way that you have the ability to write exif in slices as well (since its only very little data to copy after the file creation), probably even by default. You can always set the options to ditch the exif if you want, just like with the normal export function. Yes, you can currently workaround by cropping multiple times in the normal Photo Persona and its nondestructive as well. But that defies the whole sense behind the existence of the export persona! If I change even the slightest thing in the image I have to redo every crop and pray to the crop gods that it is somewhat cropped the same as before.
  4. Working with Web design i often need to eport several different png graphics ... i would like to know if there is a way to click/select an object to create atutomatically artboards or slices in the precise dimenson of the object/group, so when i export a PNG file the image does not leaves a gap or borders. Is there a way to do this?
  5. Related: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/37597-ad-export-persona-item-has-duplicate-paths/ Change the message of the error icon to the specific error: If the artboard was named twice the same, say e.g. "The Artboard/Path-Name is used multiple times". The actual message ("The Item has duplicate Paths") indicates Paths that are exactly the same (not only the name) and do overlap or such thing. Greetings, Johannes
  6. The problem does not always appear, but very often at specific point: When I made couple slices and configure export formats on it etc... After click on "Export Slices" button program freezes, and I had to force to Quit. After run affinity designer again it works. It's so annoying especially when working frequently on slices. This has been happening for a long time, I already have a second computer so it is definitely not the fault of the hardware. Current setup: MacBook Pro 16Inch 2021, M1Pro 16GB macOS Monterey 12.2 Affinity Designer 1.10.4 Earlier computer when issue exists Mac Book Pro 2018 15inch i7 6core 16GB macOS BigSur
  7. In short: Slices ought to be retained in Data-merge generated files and propagated in generated pages. Scenario: User sets up a work file using Publisher and Designer tools. Using Publisher, 'Data Merge' is essential to position and populate the file with variables. Using Designer, slices are set up in the same file so that, once data merge file is executed, files can be exported quickly. Data is imported, looks fine, user executes 'Data Merge manager' -> 'Generate'. Generated file looks fine at first but in Designer slices setup is gone! Replaced with UID-looking whole-page slice. Slices cannot be copy/pasted (not clear why, when it could save time in setups and dimensioning), User has to come up with workarounds. Workarounds will increase possibility of error and timewaste. Why is this a problem? This behaviour is detrimental for user since it: results in unnecessary loss of user data and time, requires generation of slices for each future data-merge generated file, requires potentially problematic workarounds. Expected behaviour: Slices are retained in data-merge generated file. This behaviour would be then coherent with retention of text-styles, master pages, swatches, preferences, and other user-set file characteristics and assets in data-merge generated files.
  8. Hi. I've been searching, but I can't find a way in any tutorial, although there must be one: in the export persona, how to give the slices a default aspect ratio (1x1, 4x5, whatever ...), and not having to move the sliders by hand, almost impossible to adjust the size with pixel precision. If anyone knows where that option is, I would appreciate the help.
  9. Hey, I have a issue that was in the past DESIGNER and still in the new update. I have a document i always reuse. 2 art boards. One is a wide format for social media , the other square. I change the content and also rename the art boards for output , so they have the correct name. When i rename the art board and switch to slice module, the art boards have the old name before i rename them. So I have to rename them twice. Anyway to get this fixed? Thanks Gary
  10. After creating my design in affinity photo I cut my image into slices of 1080x1080px But as I exported them I noticed they looked very pixelated. After searching for the cause I realized that whenever I export my slices they turn into images of 540x540px I've tried every many settings with PNG and JPEG but I can't figure out what's causing the change in size.
  11. Just joined, folks, so I hope I am not duplicating an issue. I could not find similar. The issue is: When I open a Publisher file (3 spreads of 6 facing pages. One image per page) in Designer I only see the first spread. What I am trying to achieve is achieve is to produce 6 ‘slices’ from the images. Slices are not available in Publisher and exporting rectangular selections is not possible. I want to keep the project images together, so I started in Publisher. To export slices, I must use Designer itself (not the Designer Persona in Publisher) but it only sees the first spread of the PUB file. Any help greatly appreciated. (I am using Win 10 and Affinity 1.9)
  12. Hi there, In the Export persona, is there a way to include a specific layer for one slice only (between various other slices)? So far I know I can exclude a specific layer/group of layers for all slices by unchecking the eye mark. But I want to do like the opposite. For example: I have a usual project file with the original image, various changes in multiple layers and groups. On top of that is a soft-proof profile placed as well as some smaller tweaks for printing. Now if I export those image I want copys for the digital media without those printing tweaks, so I simply uncheck those. But for printing I want a dedicated filename_print.tiff with those printing tweaks applied on top. I know I can go the long road and do two exports but that somewhat defies the logic behind the export persona. And if I try to create a slice from a selection of layers it creates one slice per layer which obviously also isn't what I want.
  13. Hi guys, title explains already everything, however, please have here a video (unlisted) explaining what I mean. What I forgot to mention in the video: please enable Metadata export to slices, thanks.
  14. Hi Affinity, I currently have two main issues when getting files out for game development. (I appreciate my needs may be different from the crowd and could be at the bottom of the pile on account). Current flow for the majority of my work. -Create artwork using Layers/Groups named with export names. -Use the 'Create slice' from currently selected object. -This works great as it uses the name of the object - good clean files easily understood. However... the size of the slice generated is almost always not what I want. The slice seems to be generated from the bounding box of the object selected (plus all it's children and adjustment layers). If I add a vector mask to the layer/group the slice generated is still of the entire bounding box not the vector mask bounding box. The result is I have to manually resize (sometimes over 100) slices! Feel my pain? Q1. Could the slice generated take the bounding box of a vector mask if it's applied to the object (the one who's name is used)? And if so could it retain the link so that if the mask is resized the slice is resized. That would give me rock solid slices. Export sizes are very restrictive. I often want to export smaller and larger and not always at 1x 2x 3x Currently I'm having to batch files I want smaller through photoplop which brings me out in an itchy rash :) Q2. As a quick-ish fix could there be another tick box which allows users to type in a scale. 0.5 for example? I appreciate everyone at Affinity is working really hard and you get all sorts of requests daily. I've been using Affinity in production now on our games since it's release and exporting has been my biggest hurdle since day 1 otherwise I love it and you guys rock.
  15. I think I'm missing something very obvious here but the Slice sector tool in Export Persona, will not let me select or adjust a slice size. (AD v1.6.1) Any ideas?
  16. I was downloading my image to an online service that would create multiple images from a single photo. I use these and transfer each image to a ceramic tile. Often this means over 500 separate tiles (for example an image divided into a grid of 25 columns and 25 rows of separate ceramic tiles. I understand how to create slices in the export personna. What I would like to know is if there is a way to, for example create a single slice of, say, 100 pixels x 100 pixels and then copy that so that I do not have to create each tile individually and move it into place. Right now I have to create the 100x 100 slice, put it in the upper left corner. Then place the cursor over a corner of that slice and create an entirely new slice of the same size. That would mean individually making hundreds of slices manually and moving them. When I send this to an online site all I have to do is send them the photo and tell them how many columns and rosw and they send me all the individual jpg images that I needf, one for each ceramic tile that I will transfer the images to. I have seen some android programs that will do this also, but I was wondering if there is a way to do this, automatically" in affinity photo or even one of the other affinity programs. The image attached shows the first several slices that I made individually.
  17. Hey All! I create a Magazine using AP. In there I have set up my canvas 42.5 inches, by 66" long. I then set up Guides every 8.5" on the Hor. and 11" on the Vert. I need to be able to export along those guides each at the appropriate guide size 8.5" at the 300DPI and CMYK/8 to sent to my Print lab. TIA SurJones :)
  18. I would like to be able to configure layer visibility for each slice independently. This would help iterating export of many slightly different designs.
  19. Everytime I try to export slices the file output is always the wrong dimensions. Everytime i export something it exports as 1920x1080. I need my exports to be 64x64 px. What could be causing it to export with the wrong dimensions? I should note that I dont use artboards in my current projects setup. Could this possibly have something to do with the wrong exported file dimensions?
  20. At the moment, at least as far as I understand, a slice is only output at its current resolution (and multiples for iOS devices 1x, 2x and forthcoming 3x) as per its size on the canvas. It would be great if there was a way to manually set the output file resolution per slice. So for example, if a slice is set up for a section say 100 x 100 pixels on the canvas, a custom output size, such as 360 x 360 pixels could be specified for the target file. This would provide great flexibility. Multiple slices for the same area would then allow many different output resolution images to be generated for the same graphic (eliminating the need for having the 1x, 2x etc options). The additional target output size settings would ideally be placed on the 'export options' panel and would contain a means of optionally fixing the aspect ratio and also be saved as part of the preset. Default presets could include 'iOS 1x Icon', 'iOS 2x Icon' etc. I hope this makes sense. Fantastic, user friendly app! Keep up the excellent work.
  21. When exporting images/Slices, is there a way to change individual file paths? I would like to export x number of Slices of the same file name to various locations.
  22. Hi, I was wondering if there is any solution for my problem. I am using Affinity Designer for creating documents for my clients, all of them are based on few templates. I have at least two artboards in each template and I export them to two filetypes - jpg and pdf. Here is my workflow: I am opening last saved document of some kind - e.g. document-1005, then I am editing it with new data and then I am saving it as document-1006. Then I am exporting (ctrl alt shift s) each artboard as jpg and pdf - because filename of Affinity Designer file is kept - its all easy for me to keep filenames constant (I have in one plce files document-1005.pdf, document-1005.jpg, document-1005.afdesign). What would be perfect for me is to use slices to export. Right now if I choose slices - I would need to change slices name everytime when exporting them. I am looking for some simple solution like what I created in Photoshop. Simple java script - it can create subfolders (when I need) and/or save file as jpg/png/psd with prefix or suffix added to original filename. Is it possible in any way? Regards, triforcesolutions
  23. I found great functionality of Designer in exhibition design, when I can maintain a generic view of a large wall of exhibition, while setting different export scenarios for different parts of general design: Parts must be printed with background and cropmarks in cmyk Parts must be cnc'd or cut without background I always need to maintain a general view for reviews, a small-sized pdf I often need to have parts of general design to use as textures in 3d software. Sometimes in different resolutions. Slices help me achieve this from a single, smartly constructed file, and in theory it is far superior than Adobe's Illustrator. So far, I have two issues with this. It is frustrating to break this workflow in cases where I have to deal with hyphenation. I have to finish-up hyphenated texts of exhibition in another software, and also break the well-maintained general view. It is difficult to get layer-independent slices in precise locations. If you draw a slice manually, snapping weirdly does not work. Precise positions of slices are essential in my case.
  24. I can't seem to figure out how to delete slices that are created around individual objects?
  25. I want to export all layers! And I know there is the slice feature, but i don't want the slice box to be directly on the object i want the slice to be exactly the same size as my previously selected layout. I also know that I can change the slice, but not if I mark several slices.. So I have to pull each slice individually onto the edge .. Is there any better solution?
