  1. Hi, this Affinity Photo tutorial is all about enhancing the sky. The subject is complex because there are different types of sky. Pale blue, completely overcast or bulky clouds. So I show 8 ways to improve skies using 3 different photos. I wish you fun and inspiration. Ciao Jack
  2. Trying to improve the image I took on a very sunny day. I made separate selection for the sky background and the grounds on the foreground. It does show I need to practice more on many things.
  3. I have attached a photo where I replaced a bland sky with one more dramatic. I followed Affinity's Sky replacement tutorial. The problem is when in enlarged, there is a white line between the foreground and sky. A second issue is when I zoom in and refine some of the rocks and bushes will not take the refinement. How do I avoid this? What am I doing wrong? Thanks,
  4. Hello Affinity Users Group - I am making a mountain panorama, and the sky has no clouds, so I'm trying to spice up the sky by adding some clouds to it by cloning in clouds from a different image. Because cloud edges are fuzzy, the cloned clouds always arrive with a little bit of blue sky on the edges, and that blue sky is always a slightly different color than the blue sky of the image that it has been added to. I cloned the cloud onto a pixel layer and then tried to adjust the color of the blue sky using both HSL adjustment and selective color adjustment. I could get pretty close, but there was still a noticeable boundary between the blue of the cloned cloud and the background sky. I also tried the color replacement brush tool but had some problems with it because it matches the hue and not the saturation and level, so there are some games to play there to make things right. Open to suggestions... Thanks!
  5. Hello Affinity Users - I'm making a mountain panorama and have had some trouble making the sky look better. The sky is mostly bright blue with a few small clouds near the edges of the panorama. I tried replacing the whole sky, but I had some problems with the boundary between sky and mountain. That was the subject of a previous post. What I'm wondering is if people have tried adding fluffy cumulus clouds to a blue sky without replacing the entire sky. I can imagine that might be difficult, but I'm not sure. Looking to see if anyone has done that before. Thank you for your attention.
  6. Hi guys, I made a video about the basics of how to do Photo Manipulation. Please check it out, I hope this is helpful, especially for a beginners. Thank you!
  7. Hi all, Hopefully I have posted this in the correct place, although I'm not convinced I have, apologies if so. I have a problem with a panorama I have made. I didn't think to take a second row of photos for the sky, but didn't like the balance of the picture once I had blended the pano. As such I extended the sky vertically in affinity, however this has created an odd looking sky. The real solution would be to get it right first time; I will make sure to take more than one row next time, even if it is just blank sky. Out of interest though, is there anything I can do to homogenise the sky so it's not separated into the vertical zones as below? I believe the zones have been created by the colour/intensity of the lights from the buildings. Origional pano, screenshot from capture one: Pano with sky extended, screenshot from Affinity: Workflow: the pano is comprised of 17 images, all shot in RAW (3.2 secs ISO 100, F5.6) and WB corrected to same value in capture one 20, then files exported as 16 bit TIFFs to PTGui where the pano was stitched, then opened in Affinity to use Mesh Warp to adjust perspective and in-painting to accommodate the warp. The sky was then extended, as described above. Thanks in advance, Freddie
  8. The following are edited from RAW files from the Nikon D5300.
  9. I was wondering at how I'd be able to recreate the content aware fill (on photoshop) shown in this video (at 1:45). Does affinity have something like this? I've tried using the inpainting brush tool, but could not really achieve a good result on a panorama I'm working on with AP (attached).
  10. Hey! Just wanted to share with you this photo that has been enhanced with Affinity Photo. It's showing a nearby mountain with a observation tower on it. The evening sun just breaks through the clouds. What you think?
  11. Hi guys, I'm a newbie. Can someone explain to me, step by step, how to replace the sky in a 360 image? I followed the official Affinity tutorial but what I get is a "sky" cut. I am attaching a screenshot. The sky I used is a 360 photo that I downloaded from the web. But it seems that affinity does not recognize it as 360. What am I doing wrong? I read on another topic that I have to apply the equirectangular distortion. But I don't know how to do this. Can someone explain it to me? Thank you
  12. Affinity, Do you guys have a video showcasing how to fill aky of a drone 360 Pano? I came across a video on YouTube that showcased this, but cannot find it, nor can I remember if it was an "Affinity" showcased Video Workflow or someone else. Due to the Zenith constraints of Drone 360 image capture, I need to fill the sky. Thank you.
  13. Been working with one of my oldest friends on this one - children book, which is something I've done in the past at a student level but always fancied doing something pro - I realised my normal ragged comic-esque style would look a little out of place so I tried to come up with a different kind of style for this one - I kind of started off with my first Affinity Designer dabblings and let it snowball from there, I've used photographs of local wood textures to create most of the art - we are just coming to the end of the book now, just 3 or 4 pages off and then Aron, my poet extraordinaire, partner in crime is gonna start fishing to get it published - I'm all pretty new to this, and would really appreciate any advice from anyone on the forum on getting a publishing deal rather than self publishing. Also, I've been dragging it out so that I'd be able to do the print ready layouts in Publisher but it's looking like I'll have to do this in InDesign CS5 - nay mind maybe we'll have Publisher for the next book in the series? --- THE TREE IN THE SKY ---
  14. We have all had the problem of selecting a sky when most of the sky can be seen through gaps in the leaves and branches of a tree. It can take ages to accurately select every tiny gap to complete the selection of the sky. If we miss a few tiny gaps the result looks awful. Other programs, GIMP is an example, have selection tools which can select all areas of the sky, including those pesky gaps, with just one click. Of course it may be necessary to adjust the settings for that tool to capture clouds as well as the blue sky. If other programs can do it how about such a tool for Affinity Photo? (If you are not familiar with GIMP I'm talking about the 'Select by Color Tool'.)
  15. I made this image for my customers to go on FB site. This was my first use of AP, first day of purchasing Affinity Photo, sadly at this stage I could not rotate the image by hand. (However this is coming in next up date of AP very soon, how cool will that be with all those brushes.) So I used Procreate to draw the man, images, text all done in AP. What I liked most, was the ability to pick up the tablet, draw mess around with images and play with layers. No more sat at a desk top. Much more fun and allows a tad more creative flow.
  16. Can someone tell me how to do a good sky replacement of this photo? Included are the original and my failed attempt. As you can see there is a lot of purple in the leaves (upper left) in the original. I tried to defringe but that did not solve it. There must be some way to get rid of that purple, make the sky selection/replacement easier. Don't worry that they are not the same size, I am looking for good technique not an interesting photo. Thanks in advance. Orig.afphoto badReplace.afphoto
  17. Hey again, it's been ages since I actually shared some of my work in this forum. Over the course of getting imagery for the tutorials, I've also produced some final pieces that I'm happy with. Recently I've been tackling tutorials for astrophotography/star image editing as well as light painting, so there have been a few late nights! My favourite so far is a light painting composite near my home: Rail Tracks by James Ritson, on Flickr Then a light painting of Rufford Abbey (although I think I narrowly avoided a run-in with security): Rufford Abbey by James Ritson, on Flickr Followed by another light painting composite underneath an old railway bridge. This one's a little scrappy and I'm not sure how I feel about it at the moment: Under The Bridge 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr Moving on, a combination of star photography and light painting at Rufford Lake: Rufford Lake 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr And then a shot of the night sky, which was achieved by stacking 50 images (shot at ISO 6400, 1s long each) and pushing the tones quite severely to produce a vibrant result: Still Sky 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr That's about it for now - some of the above imagery is used in the recent tutorials and I plan to hopefully produce some more videos in the future covering these areas of photography. There are a few more images on my 500px and Flickr accounts as well if you're interested! Thanks, James
  18. For fantasy book covers like the one below, they always have colorful skies. Among a host of fantasy effects, I desperately need to learn how to change the colors of sky, so they have multiple unnatural colors. Or even just to change the blue in a stormy sky to like a diff color. Any help? Even just tell me what tool to use? Thank you so much!! Seriously, I would pay money if someone made a course on book covers for Affinity.
  19. Hi folks, I took this photo of a partial solar eclipse: from my place at 8:15 am, a few years ago, half awake I was and yet somehow after getting about 27 pictures, this was one was the one that surprised me. I never saw the bird through the screen. I haven't edited it at all. Any ideas how to improve this? Does it need tweaking at all? All comments welcome. peter
