  1. Made with Affinity photo, using the filter "Detect Edges" and framework from Daub Papers "Single Paper" .
  2. Just me having some fun in the latest Photo Beta after all the shortcut and brush precision API improvements. Really looking forward to the official release and soon 1.9! 🥳
  3. Hello. I would like to propose a feature that would give the user an option to male the blue line guide in pen tool be hidden and only the actual stroke be visible. This feauture would be useful on siuations where the stroke width is very thin like 1px to 5px. The proposed feature will look something like this with the only difference where the blue line guide is not visible.

  5. Hello! Im having a hard time with some things. 1. Can I turn off the nodes when using the pencil? Id like to draw and they are distracting. 2. Why does the pencil setting reset when i start a new document? Can I save a custom pencil? 3. How can i draw a shape with the vector brush tool without a stroke? Every time i draw with the vector brush tool, theres always a stroke When I complete a closed shape with the vector brush, can I get the shape to auto fill in? The pencil tool is the same way. Both wont fill on closed path.
  6. I'm brand new to Affinity Design and I'm having teething problems trying to do certain things I'm used to doing in Adobe Illustrator. For example the custom brush, or a brush that is thin in a point at one end only and responds to pen pressure. Also I used to be able to draw this out neatly with a line from the pen tool and then drag the brush from the menu of brushes to instantly change the pen line to this stroke effect. What's the best way to customise this type of brush? (The pictures come from this custom brush tutorial suitable for Adobe Illustrator http://www.bittbox.com/illustrator/illustrator-how-to-make-custom-swooshes-swirls-and-curls ) Another question while on topic, I already have some brush files suitable for illustrator but wont open in Affinity, is there anyway they can work or be converted to work? Thanks
  7. Affinity Designer Trial 1.5.3.69, Affinity Photo Trial 1.5.2.69 The bitmap brush engine in both programs renders hand drawn lines with very low quality - lines are not smooth, they end up faceted/broken no matter the drawing style or brush settings. Sadly this is not adequate even for basic sketching. I am sorry to say that but this is the worst I have seen. The last picture is from OpenCanvas - line rendering in OC is very good. This is how it should be done at the very least. Even Photoshop (an all around app not specialized in sketching) has always done an adequate job in this regard. One of the best rendered lines I have seen were in Autodesk Sketchbook (and of course Studio Tools/Alias). But since even inexpensive Sketchbook went rental-only I have lost interest in the software. Sorry if this has already been talked about and put on the roadmap. I did a quick search and didn't see any thread mentioning this issue. With high quality bitmap brush engine Affinity apps would become much more versatile.
  8. Big fan of Affinity, and I'm loving all the updates and community support! I've been using Affinity Design for sketching, and am having problems with small, quick strokes. These simply do not appear, as though Affinity is assuming they were mistaken taps. I've tried other programs, and haven't had this problem (and have checked my pen settings -- Huion tablet -- and it's picking up plenty of pressure). I'm using the Paint tool in Pixel Persona. Is there a way to turn off any pen assist features? No editing, filtering, etc? ( This is similar to a question I'd asked a while ago (about "smoothing" problems), but I could never solve that one either. ) Thank you!
  9. Hello everybody! As some of you may have noticed I haven’t uploaded any tutorials recently to www.frankentoon.com and all I can say in my defense is that this quarter has been crazy… the Frankentoon project has opened great opportunities for freelance work and I’ve been working over dreadful deadlines the last couple of months. The original goal of the website was not getting freelance work for me, but to offer simple, funny and easy-to-follow character design tutorials for Affinity users. And I really want to make more of those! In order to keep moving towards that goal, I’ve been re-structuring the way I’m managing the site. I’ll be offering some digital products in my store, so hopefully, I won’t have to rely that much on freelance work and this way I’ll have more time for writing free tutorials… which takes me to our main subject… Tutorials. This is a PARTIAL list of tutorials for 2017: Giving life to your pencil drawings with Designer Creating a video game Hero Creating a video game Villain/Boss Saving time with Adjustment Layers Comic-Style Inking with Designer Background Design: A Magical Forest Background Design: The Castle of Darkness Character Design: Pinup Girls Sketching with Affinity Designer and Pixel Persona Character Design: A Creature from Outer Space All of them sound interesting for me, but what really matter is what do YOU think. Do you find these topics interesting enough? Whats missing? What would you add to that list? What do you want to learn? What makes you struggle the most about learning Affinity Designer ? I’m still fine-tuning the plan for the first quarter of 2017, so I’ll be taking suggestions until Dec 15th. Thank you all in advance! Cheers!
  10. I would LOVE to see a persona for Affinity Designer that would serve for sketching. A persona that would allow me to get rid of sketchbook pro by Autodesk. Think about it, sketching can then take you to the draw persona where you can now make into vectors. A lot of designers, illustrators, bring in sketches into their vector app and begin to draw on top of the sketch... a persona can take care of this allowing for all to happen inside affinity designer!
  11. I've just downloaded Affinity Photo. I like the app very much so far, but it must be admitted that it isn't quite ready yet for digital painting and sketching. Here are a few suggestions:- Very important - Add ability to re-define keyboard shortcuts! I'm glad it's already on the road map! - Add shortcuts to decrease and increase the size of the current brush! - When using the brush and holding down some key (e.g. command), the brush should be restricted to a horizontal or vertical line, depending on the starting direction! Very important for quick sketching! - Add the ability to decide the number of swatches generated when creating a new palette from a document OR make the numbers of swatches generated about 256. - Add the ability to rotate the entire canvas (non-destructive), and make this available from a simple keystroke (e.g. R) Quite important - Add a keyboard shortcut to open the list of swatches without removing them from the toolbar if it is visible there; immediately close that temporary picker as soon as the key is released. Idea: Quick way of picking a colour when painting full-screen! - Add a keyboard shortcut to open Apple's default colour picker. - When in full-screen mode, the TAB key should make the *entire* UI go away. Currently, document tabs persist as well as a fairly thick (and useless?) border to the right and at the bottom. - When in full-screen mode and the UI is hidden (TAB key), the menu bar should *not* appear when moving the mouse to the top of the screen, and neither should Apple's dock! - Add the ability to mark my favourite brushes, and add a keyboard shortcut to quickly toggle between them! Not quite as important, but still important - Add a digital painter persona - UI panels should *not* reposition when switching to a panel whose height is too short! - There should be a Swatches manager window. Having to do everything from the context menu is kind of tedious. - Ability to import Photoshop swatches (.act files) - Should I really be able to add a system palette? Why would I want to use the system palette anyway?
  12. Multiple pages, not just multiple art boards. The art boards are great and can be used as pages, but it then requires a lot of scrolling or zooming in and out. Here is what I envision being able to do. I open the software, grab my stylis pad and start sketching. Now, instead of creating a new layer, I create a new page with some keyboard combination of some sort. (for example, perhaps "Shift+Alt+N" for a New Alternate Page? ) At this point, I now resume sketching. After a while, I want to review what I have sketched and so, this time I hit "Shift+F9" (because F9 is what apple uses for viewing open files as thumbnail images) and all the "Pages" that I had created show up similar to when I hit F9 on my Mac to see what files I have open. I will see thumbnails (larger if not many pages, smaller if lots of pages). I can then click on any of those thumbnails to open that page up to resume working on it, view it, etc. Each page would work the same as it always has when working on a document, with the multiple layers, art boards, multiple pages on the one artboard, etc. But the beauty here is, multiple pages for sketching, creating drafts, etc. Just like using a Paper & Pencil Sketch pad. Heck, if possible, get some cool page flipping look to make flipping through the pages possible as well even. Then not only would the "Shift+F9" help, but one can flip though their pages like a sketch pad and enjoy viewing their stuff that way too.
  13. It seems that whenever I draw lines using the Affinity Designer, the program automatically smoothes/straightens/corrects them. I'd love for this feature to be able to be toggled on and off, because sketching would be a lot easier. Even though the feature is helpful in some ways, users should be able to draw the lines to their preference without having the software automatically correct it- which oftentimes results in the line looking like nothing I had drawn in the first place. I thought it was a problem with my pen settings (I use an Intuos 4 by Wacom) at first, but after experimenting with the settings I wasn't able to find anything that would toggle this automatic response on/off. While looking around, I also thought that it would be quite useful to see some more settings to adjust pen pressure and other pen qualities as well. I'm new to this software, and this happened to be one of the first things I noticed as I played around with the pen and paintbrush tool.
  14. So, my buddy who is a big time comic book geek was going off about how there is going to be a Superman Vs Batman Movie. Anyway, every time we chat about comics I always confuse which superheros is in Marvels universe and which superheroes are from the D.C. universe. Anyway, Today was his Birthday so I decided to make him some original art. He is a big Batman fan so I thought this would be fitting. My process is still the same. sketch on paper. shoot it, import it, trace it, and color it.
