  1. Amidst the international controversy - questions in Parliament, frequent mentions on Fox News, and a delightful article in Quilting Weekly - regarding the precise timing of the up-coming release of a certain piece of software, the BBC has announced that they will - some day soon - be airing a special episode of their flagship science documentary series. Expect glossy CGI, mildly sarcastic narration by David Mitchell, and something from either Jim Al-Khalili or Mark Miodownik (probably). Dum... dim, dum, de da da dum,,, P.S. This is just a silly bit of (attempted) humour. I'm happy to wait patiently.
  2. I had the idea for this rolling around in the back of my head for a while so I thought I'd give it a try and see what came from it. I've now got it to the point where I'm not very happy with it. I've added some shadows where some of the pieces of paper aren't fully stuck down - with a related curve - but it still doesn't quite look real enough to me. There's something missing but I don't know what. I tried to add highlights to the "curls" but they didn't look right. Each letter is an individual shape with enclosed image and text layers, and the shadows are themselves individual layers, so it's all totally adjustable. Does anyone have any suggestions for improvements? It's just a silly thing that I've made for my own amusement but I would like to get it looking better. Any ideas anyone? Feel free to get petty.
  3. It's been a while since I posted anything new so, inspired by watching the "Powers" TV series, I decided to try something a bit different (again). The characters were created by manually tracing over some pictures and then modifying the results. I've also added some subtle shading and textures to try and give it a bit of a grungy look. My illustration skills could be described as either (a) having a certain naive charm, or (b) just plain terrible, so I didn't expect much but I think it's a reasonable first attempt that I'm fairly happy with (although a lot of attention would still be needed if I was making it for something real). Does anyone know what this kind of illustration is called? It would be nice if I could search for it and get some tips.
  4. If you didn't live in the UK in the 80s and weren't a computer nerd then you probably won't have any idea what this is, sorry. It's a basic attempt at recreating a still from the title sequence of a TV show about computing that was called "Micro Live". It's not a perfect remake by any means but it might give some people a little hit of nostalgia. (I know the owl is wrong and badly lit considering the rest of the composition but I couldn't find a better picture.) I could faff around with it for ages but I think I'll leave it how it is. Comments are, as usual, welcome though. Remember: "Computers aren't just for silly things like games..."
  5. For no particular reason, other than to try something different, I thought I'd put together a 1980's-style computer magazine advert. The checklist of features that I wanted to include was: * Dodgy theme that doesn't really suit the product; * "Dolly-bird" dressed slightly inappropriately; * Incredibly dull picture of computer; * Strange choice of typefaces; * Loads of text that doesn't say much. It was just a silly experiment - and, if you hadn't guessed already, it's supposed to look naff - but if anyone has suggestions for improvements I might try another one at some point in the future. P.S. Fans of a certain 1980's sci-fi film might also get the extra bonus nerdy reference.
  6. ...The kind of place where there might be a monster, or some kind of weird mirror. These are just examples; it could also be something much better. Prepare to enter: The Scary Door. Just a silly DVD insert that I put together for a bit of fun. (Actually a re-hash of something I did ages ago with other software.) Nothing special but I thought it might bring a smile to some faces.
  7. The latest official NumberWang annual is almost ready to ship. Packed with all of the numbers that really are NumberWang. You'll find some old favourites - 3, 4.2, 17, and who can forget 84? - and some surprises - 92 and 4008 anyone? Don't let your NumberWang parties get bogged down in arguments, get the official list and you'll know exactly what is NumberWang. P.S. If you're not a fan of "That Mitchell and Webb Look" then you probably won't have a clue what's going on here, so sorry for that. This is not for a real thing, it's just a bit of fun. P.P.S. I know I didn't get the logotype quite right. I couldn't be bothered to take the time to create it properly for a silly thing like this.
