  1. Is there a way to use the Pencil Tool in Designer without it automatically 'selecting' the stroke straight after you've drawn it? Perhaps an option or preference that I can disable that leaves all the strokes unselected until I choose to use the Node or Move Tool myself in case I want to edit it? It's quite difficult to see what you're drawing in a complicated illustration when the line you've just drawn is automatically selected and shows all the nodes.
  2. Selection is something crucial in design software and should be intuitive and easy but at the moment it is very difficult to perform certain tasks when a project becomes complex. Example: I have an object which contains multiple objects inside of it, maybe houndreds, thousands and I have no way to find where they are located in the layers panel. On the canvas I can clearly see where they are and the simplest way to select them would be via a rectangle or lazzo selection, but "Hey, they're located inside of an object, so I can't, unless clicking on them one by one, but again, they're houndreds, thousands... so my only way to go at the moment is loosing that couple hours just to select multiple objects located inside of other objects. In complex projects, often imported from some other software, it's so frequent to get multiple objects stack inside others and in such an unorganized wayt that it's impossible to manage everything by hand. A very convenient way of selecting is offered in 3D modeling software such as Rhinoceros and the same system is also adopted in AutoCAD: When you draw a selection rectangle from left to right you select every object which is completely enclosed in the rectangle, but when you draw the selection rectangle from right to left you select every object that intersects the rectangle. Having something similar in AD and the others would be highly recommended! The image attatched doesn't represent a complex situation, but illustrates a very simple case. Imagine having thousands of separate lines here and there among the layers and you only need to select some of those and maybe some of the circles inside of the box. The most intuitive way would be to draw a selection rect all around the pieces of interest, and eventually adding more of such selections by pressing shift as always, but this is not possible at the moment, so please, work on this feature. It'd be a game changer. Thank you in advance for the attention and good work!
  3. Nice to see the new "select same" option in 1.9. I was hoping though that it would also give you the option to replace the objects selected with the current selection. That would be particularly useful for updating objects used many times in your work - e.g. Select Same, name "tree 1" replace with <current selection> could update your trees to a new version in one go.
  4. Despite thinking I had a pretty good handle on selections and masks, I find myself unable to figure out what I am sure is the simplest way to do something.... In the picture below, I have a bunch of shapes (as Groups, consisting of Curves), and an image which I want to drag across all the shapes and appear only within the hexes. Essentially, turn all the individual hex groups into a mask that reveals the image layer, while the rest of the board remains transparent. I can select an individual group and choose Selection from Layer, and I guess I could save that selection, and the one by one add each group to a new saved selection until I have a selection consisting of all the groups, and then turn it into a layer mask, but seems like there is probably a simpler technique.
  5. When I try to select a graphic element often times the Move tool selects items in the vicinity which are in front the desired element. In this example I have a red triangle which I am trying to select. There are three black lines in front of it. No matter where I click on the triangle I always select one of the lines. I haver tried to zoom in very close to make the selection but it didn't help. The work around is to either move the black line to the side or to the back. Both strategies are too time consuming.
  6. Hi, I have a curves layer, I click the select button and my layer disappears? What am I doing wrong?
  7. Using AFPUB 1.8.3, OS X 10.15.3. Cosmetic? Please see screenshot. The 4 text frames are linked for text flow. The images within all have wrap settings of "jump" with 3mm spacing. If you select all of the text in frame 1 with CTRL-A, the selected text is ghosted in the wrong places. You can see, for example, the bottom 2 text frames have "shadow" highlights that precisely match the actual text in shape, but are somehow shifted down below the actual text. This seems to be related to the size (spacing) of wrapped images and perhaps the flow link to a new spread/page as I have just started using the "wrap" feature and have never seen the problem before. It's a cosmetic thing, I suspect, but the highlighted "shadow" boxes should be exactly overlaying the actual text.
  8. I could not select text anymore, tried closing program/reopening but it still didn´t work. Noticed that it suddenly worked when i had the document zoomed out to 50%. To test the issue, select a text, zoom in/out and notice that the selection disappears going above 85%, every time. Version 1.8.3 on a 2017 15" mac pro running Mojave 10.14.6
  9. Hi. I am trying to select multiple lines in AD. Is there anyway to set up AD to let me select vectors without needing to include the whole shape within my rectangle ?
  10. Publisher Version 1.8.2 Mac Version 10.14.2 Problem: Unable to select unlock layer on top of lated layer, please see attach vid for reproduction of the problem. Is this intentional? Screen_Recording_2020-03-18_at_3_57.15_PM.mov
  11. Publisher Version 1.8.2 Mac Version 10.14.2 Problem: After upgrading from 1.8.1 to 1.8.2 I am unable to select additional multiple object while holding on to shift key + Drag, the bounding box disappear. shift + individual click still works. anyone else have the same problem? please solve ASAP. 12. hi team I installed the last available beta and I started doing some tests and when opening a file created in 1.7.3.481 with the beta I choose the option to generate a copy file, then I realized that when trying to click on some elements, it behaves different, and sometimes clicking on one of them causes a slight displacement within the composition, which is not happening in version 1.7.3.X first video 1.7.3.481 and second video 1.8.1.611 select object 1.7.3.481.mp4 select object 1.8.1.611.mp4
  13. I'd like to see a tool that would allow the user to select all (shapes and/or layers) by color. This would be extremely time-saving when designing logos or making illustrations where you want to show several color variants. Thanks for your consideration.

  15. Help please! I am trying to understand the colour picker/dropper tool and hope someone can advise i have a rectangle, I colour it red ff0000. I create another rectangle, use the colour picker and hover over the first rectangle to choose the same red. the pixel square in the middle of the circle goes red, but it’s not selecting that colour, instead it Selects a grey. I found that moving the picker around the box at some point the outside circle goes red, but as the whole box is the same colour, why would it only be on certain points that it selects? this happens in various tests and means I cannot use the picker the way I’d like which is to select colours from images ive made a video of an image I’ve got. By enlarging, I can see the various pixel colours, but as the video shows, the picker isn’t picking up many of them. please advise, am I doing something wrong? thanks IMG_1217.MOV
  16. I've found that it can be difficult to select a particular object on screen, even if I'm really zoomed in. Where is there a setting to change the tolerance? Screen_Recording_2020-02-13_at_16_13_34.mov
  17. Hello, I ran into a real workflow problem and googling around for hours hasn't brought up any solution. I want to select only a part of the paths an object contains. Not all of them. It seems so basic but I am desperate and can't figure it out. My workflow in illustrator ist: draw with the blobbrush, delete the inner Path and am left with a shape. // In Affinity Designer I can draw and convert my strokes to shapes and join them instead of the blobbrush. With complex shapes I always seem to be able to only select parts point by point or by drawing a complex lasso-selection. Both are not a solution since I can end up with too many points to select that way. Thanks for any help! Here's an image to help clear it up more:
  18. hi guys, I am hoping someone can please help as I MUST be doing something wrong as I can't believe the basic functionality of Designer would be so poor, it must be me! I have an EPS file which has lots of objects in it, and if I open this in Illustrator, I can select every single object, but open that file in Designer and it will only allow me to select the massive block. I am clicking a million times (which I thought would allow me to delve further into the group), but I just can't do anything with it. As I said above, it must be me doing something wrong, but can someone please tell me how to select each individual object in this file? I've uploaded a screenshot so you can see how the 2 apps behave SO differently. Thanks.
  19. To celebrate the end of 2019 and the start of a new decade, I decided to create a pre-2020 gift for all of you! I've just launched my first ever FREE mini course on how to select anything in Affinity Photo (for your compositions). Since it's my first ever course I'm not sure if everything works like it should. If you find any flaw or if you have any question, don't hesitate contact me! Now enjoy the FREE course ! -> Make sure to read the video description.
  20. I have a round logo that I want to crop out from a white background (JPG image). The Vector Crop Tool only seems to let me crop in boxes. Surely there is a simple way to select a circular area of an image and crop that out, to save what's inside the circle. Please advise ASAP. Thanks in advance!
  21. A "Select Same" option (as in Adobe Illustrator) would be incredibly useful in Designer to select objects that share the same appearance. That way a user could select, say, all vector objects that have the same stroke weight, or colour fill, or colour stroke, etc. This would make editing and recolouring complex vector files a lot less taxing and time consuming, and a lot more streamlined.
  22. The Flood Select tool apparently does not work on Image layers. Works fine on pixel layers but not on image layers which is pretty inconvenient. And I'm not talking about editing or drawing on the Image layer, but only selecting the desired parts of it with the Flood Select tool to for example make a mask from that selection or paint inside the selection on another layer to name just two cases where it would be helpful.
  23. In the Select menu I would like to suggest renaming Select All Layers to Select All Visible Layers (which is what it does effectively) Hubert
