  1. Couldn't think of a decent name. Been trying out a Photoshop tutorial and converting the techniques to Affinity Photo, had to do a bit of jerryrigging as there was one particular bit I wasn't sure how to replicate, but the result mostly worked! Anyway, this is the first attempt. Idea was to make it look like an old CRT monitor that you get in awesome 80's sci fi films. Original stock photo can be found here for comparison.
  2. ....Swirling sands, driven by gentle winds slowly clear to reveal a Metropolis. The research team stop to take a moment and absorb the magnificent sight ahead of them.
  3. .....Discovery by the research team of an energy sphere which they have coined, "The Power Marble." Apart from 4 base photographs, desert sands, distant rock structure, tourists, well hole, all concept designs created entirely within Affinity Photo using shapes and texture samples.
  4. This, by rights, should've been picture 4 in the series, but due to a major computer malfunction I lost the version (3) I was working on. Hey-ho. # I don't trust technology.
  5. I haven't been totally idle! Bit different than I normally do.
  6. Used a few references and filled spaces in. Could have done more but didn't want to spend any more time on it so it will do.
  7. Affinity Photo V2 with a little help from GMIC plugin.

  9. Hi. The droid in the image below was inspired by the old lamp in the image below it. Funny how something totally random can inspire you, don't you think. I myself think there's this old school video game feeling in the picture, but having grown with and loved late 80's and early 90's video games, some with a bit less polished graphics (one of my favourites being Spaceship Warlock), i'm personally happy with the results. Yours Lassi Peltomaa
  10. Fun little Star Wars themed project. 3D work done in Blender. Photography was done in studio, processed in AP. Composited in AP.
  11. Official cover art I illustrated for The Changing Spaces' upcoming release, "Control". Channeling all those techy cyberpunk vibes with this one! 👾 Mostly hand-drawn/painted in Affinity Photo using a drawing tablet, with a bit of Designer for the typography. ✍️ www.instagram.com/christidutoit
  12. “Space Base” is a vectorial image with a sci-fi theme, created as if it was a still frame from an anime movie. Another vector illustration made with basic shapes, gradients and this time, special brushes for the clouds. This work was also made following a tutorial by visual artist Isabel Aracama, and you can acess her site for this tutorial plus the freebies: www.isabelaracama.com
  13. Mucking about during Covid downtime. This is a combination of AD and Cinema 4D.
  14. Made with Designer and Photo. I went through the movie frame by frame for references and then came up with something that was a little modern but more anchored in the art deco design of the original movie. I also looked through Willis O'Brien's pre-production images of Kong since i wanted him to have a rougher look.
  15. Feeling a tad Bladerunnerish at the moment and at the same time I have waaaaay too much time on my hands.
  16. Way back in the good old 30s, 40s & 50s, before real science had begun to catch up with pulp fiction, there was a penchant among sci-fi magazines for mad scientists to experiment on scantily-clad ladies in glass vessels. I've seen quite a few on FaceBook pages lately, so I thought I'd have a go at making a realistic-looking one of my own, mostly in Affinity Photo. As far as possible I've used my own photos, but the unfortunate female is from Pixabay, the Mad Scientist is Doc Brown from Back to the Future with William Herschel's head (photo: Julia Margaret Cameron), the glass thingy is from off the internet; the tubing is some Affinity Designer image brushes I made for the purpose. The whole thing was largely inspired by Richard Hamilton's Pop Art collage Just what is it that makes today's homes so different, so appealing?. It grew organically, which means I had a half-formed plan in my head and mostly added stuff willy-nilly and moved it around till I was happy. Oh, and I had to paint everything electric-shock blue. I made this A2 size, which is a bit bigger than it needed to be really: the while thing is nearly 300MB, even after I'd flattened quite a few of the layers and groups. This is Hamilton's iconic work, which kicked off the Pop Art movement in 1956. In those days, cut and paste meant a pair of scissors and a bottle of Gloy!
  17. I was hit with inspiration to make these. I have a group of city icons as well, like Boston, Montreal, Prague... I t was fun to do and helped me learn more skills in Designer and how to get the most out of the app.
  18. Hey everyone. This is a piece I finished recently in Affinity Designer. I wanted to create the look and feel of 70s retro scifi illustrations and at the same time I wanted to stay 100% vector. No traces, no bitmaps, no pixel layers. Critique, opinions and questions welcome :D
  19. Exercise with Xenon Ok so I wanted a forest design for my latest eco–vid. Started playing around and came up with a surprising glimpse of creativity. Process: Open Affinity photo. Download a nice forest photo from the internet. Copy, paste and flip horizontal, drag and fix to form a symmetrical composite. I purchased the Xenon brush pack from Affinity store and used them to create effects. I finished with a galactic brush to add the vibrant green mist. This started out as a simple play with brush and finished with an interesting picture. Not complex just try and see. It’s not rocket science, just good old fashioned work and play.
  20. New to Affinity photo and it's workflow. In teaching myself how it works I made up a couple of compositions using a photograph of a scale model I had just completed and photographed against a white card. I then took some photos of an LED "glow" moon to create the renegade planet that destroys the earth. I then created a more generic 50's space scene usingthe same model and technique. didn't spend a lot of time on it as I'm just learning but very pleased with the results and how easy AF was to work with. earth on fire.afphoto rocket exhaust.afphoto SPACE ARK 1.afphoto
  21. As Inktober 2018 continues I decided to stay a bit longer with Photo. I am pretty happy with the mood and look of those three illustrations
  22. First time posting here! I've been using AD for almost a year, and it's now my go-to for pretty much all of my graphic work. Here's a piece I recently whipped up that's part of a sci-fi series I'm working on. Obviously, it's inspired by old propaganda posters. That, and a heavy dose of Ray Bradbury.
