  1. Hi, is there a way to measure and mark a certain distance in Affinity Designer (vector), ie if I want to place a dot 2 inches along a curved or straight line? The ruler tool allows you to measure, but as far as I can tell, you can't mark a distance. I have been just using the pen tool, creating a line and measuring that, although I'm not sure how accurate it is for curves and it's a rather cumbersome process. Thanks-
  2. Hi all I create custom maps and enjoy being able to draw my maps at a real world scale. I have no problems setting a custom scale for the document and getting objects to display their dimensions accordingly. However, I am unable to get the rulers (or grids) to display units according to the custom scale. Is there a way to do this? e.g., I set a drawing scale to 1:40. I can drag and draw a box from, for example, 0 to 640cm wide but the ruler still only shows 16cm (the paper size not the scaled size). I can change the ruler units to show 160mm or to the equivalent in points but not to reflect the dimensions as per the custom scaling. How can I get the ruler (and grids) to show scaled units?
  3. 1. Would it be possible in one of the next updates to make the rulers show metric divisions in ten sub-divisions. For example, if I am using a metric rulers, the divisions between cm for example, are not 10, but 5. This makes it very difficult and awkward to measure correctly dimensions using the rulers. 2. Could you also make the zero coordinate of the ruler system be flexible, and to be moved to wherever you want to measure within a drawing. Something like PhotoShop and CorelDraw have. Not having 10 subdivisions in the metric system (the first issue above) it makes almost impossible to precisely measure an element in the drawing that is not aligned exactly to the origin top left hand corner.
  4. I've noticed a strange bug when using guides. Please see the attached .afdesign file. I dragged from the top ruler to create a horizontal guide on the page. I then used the 'create artboard' button which replaced my page with an identically sized artboard. I then duplicated that artboard. I decided I no longer wanted the horizontal guide, so I dragged it back up the the ruler to remove from the page. When I go to View > Guides Manager it shows no guides on the page. Same thing if I select each artboard and check the Guides Manager. However, if I click and drag a selection square anywhere on an empty part of the page, my removed guide shows up on the screen! (see screenshot). list-tick.afdesign
  5. I apologize if this topic has already been raised, but I have no idea what terminology to search on, other than "ruler tool tracking." Some of the tools in Affinity Photo track on the rulers so I can see what coordinates I'm at in real time as I move the tool on the image area. Magnifier, mesh warp, rectangle tool, pen, etc., all track on the rulers, which is great. But knowing the position of the eraser, paint brush, burn brush, and other brush tools is very important too, yet none of these tools track on the rulers. It would greatly speed up some actions if I knew precisely where my brush tools are positioned at any point as I move them on the image. Is there a reason the center point of brush tool coordinates aren't shown on the rulers? Is it possible to have their coordinates appear on the rulers? Have I overlooked an option that will turn on brush tracking in the rulers?
  6. Publisher still doesn't want us to change the ruler's zero mark on two facing pages. If you change the ruler origin on the X axis of a master page of two facing pages, you cannot duplicate that ruler origin change by applying that master to facing pages in the publication. The contents of the master page will apply, but NOT the ruler X origin change. If you want the X origin of the ruler, i.e. the zero mark, to be re-centred in between each two facing pages you must change the X origin for each and every pair of facing pages in the publication manually by going to View > Guides Manager > Spread Origin. This should have been fixed long ago. X or Y spread origins could be specified when one is creating a new publication, then it would apply to all pages. At the very least they should be retained in Master pages.
  7. Greetings, I think we need to have an overlay while editing the footage in the edit screen. This would allow us to know where the center of the frame is at all time, that that would help us with tracking subjects on the video also on that now adding a tracking feature would be amazing! (DIY til this is added is me putting some tape with a bread crumb on it 😆)
  8. Several times I've tried to set the ruler's "zero" position (spread origin) away from the default location and have the change apply to the entire publication. But the change seems to apply only to the page where it was made. I tried it on a master page, thinking the change might be "inherited" by all document pages based on the particular master page. That didn't work. Is there a way to set the spread origin position globally so that the "zero" position is set for all pages or spreads—until you reset it manually?
  9. Hello there. In your version for ipad, how can I see the length when drawing lines? I need to make scaled drawings. How can I do it in this program? I am thinking of buying but I have read that there is no tool for ruler and measurement, is it true ?
  10. Affinity defaults on pixels for the ruler measurement. Can I change the default to inches? Thank you, Tim
  11. I'd like to suggest you to create a simple method to connect the C point perpendicular to the AB segment. If you need some inspiration Coreldraw has a pretty decent way to do that - direct and intuitive. BTW, measuring tools would be great too.
  12. Hello everyone, I am look for a quick way to center the point of origin/ intersection point/ spread origin of the ruler in Affinity Photo (vers. 1.8.3.641). I know I can move it with the move tool or via the Guides Manager. However, this would require me to calculate the middle of hight and width by hand. I could not find a way so far to have it start there automatically (or any thread with the solution on here, I am afraid). What I am looking looking for is how to have the origin of the ruler be in the dead center of any given image (would also be nice for the grid, too, to have it start right in the middle of a picture). This would especially useful for pictures with non-standard dimensions. Thank you in advance!
  13. Hi, I'm pretty new to Affinity Designer software. I am trying to create a guide by click and dragging from the ruler with the move tool. I have read the comments but I can't make head nor tails of it. Someone claims to have found the solution by "unlocking the guides". When I searched a topic on hoe to unlock guides someone answered that a lock/unlock function hadn't been added yet and would be added at a later date. So, at the moment my left eye is looking in my right trouser pocked with frustration. Any advice would be great. Thank you Rob
  14. Win 7 sp1 Publisher 1.8.2.620 If I move the X origin 8.5 inches to the right on a two page publication, so that the zero is centred on the spine, that X origin does not carry over when the master page is applied to regular pages. To get the ruler zeroed on the spine, it appears that the X origin must be relocated separately for each and every two pages.
  15. I just ditched my PC and got a Mac, good move. I bought both Affinity Photo and Designer. Previously I used Corel Draw to make plan drawings. My question is how do you move the zero reference point of the ruler if you want to use the ruler to draw a line of a particular lenth? Also how do you change the scale of the ruler if you want to have, say, 5cm on paper represent 1 meter on the drawing? Both these operations are quite strait forward in Corel Draw, and I can't imagine how you would make a dimensioned scaled drawing without this feature. Thanks for any advice.
  16. Hi, a terrible thing (at least for me) has happened with the latest release: I have just updated to Publisher 1.7.0.270 (latest version) on Mac 10.14.3. German language. And now everything goes wrong with the origin of the coordinates. As long as it‘s only a one-page-document everything is fine. But when I have more than one page everything gets weird: The x-origin of the FIRST page is now calculated in minus from the right border. y is okay. On the SECOND (left) and all the following pages the y origin is obviously calculated from the origin of page 1. So on higher page numbers my text frames and pictures have y-values in the thousands … To make it more complicated: On master pages everything seems to be fine. So I have attached and detached master pages, have tried to set the page origin manually (with the rulers) but nothing helps. This is a new bug – and makes Publisher absolutely a desaster and non-usable on documents with more than one page. I have attached screenshots to make it clearer. Please help urgently – thanks a lot! Reinhard
  17. AF Publisher V 1.7.0.249 Mac OS X: 10.13.6 When working with the text in a Table, the Text Ruler does not show. I'm unable to alter the start position, tabs, or end position of the text. If I click outside of the table, the text ruler appears at the top of the text column.
  18. The current possibility to set the origin of the Grid and Ruler is great - thank you. But would it be possible to allow a quick and easy setting of the origin according to the set Margins? For example, at define margins in document settings, check the separate checkboxes "Set Grid / Ruler origin to margin".
  19. It would be great to be able to toggle between the current behavior and the "traditional" behavior of the rulers while changing the page origin. Sometimes I wish to move the page origin a specific amount, and that's not possible with the current behavior as the rulers also shift with the page origin as one drags. If we could leave the current ruler positions until AFTER letting go of the mouse, one can move the origin a specific amount relative to the current ruler measurements. Thanks for your consideration and phenomenal update!
  20. Good day! Add a "Ruler" - left and top, as in the version for the PC. Implement this feature soon! For Affinity Designer / Affinity Photo
  21. Please add ruler to designer on ipad
  22. Windows 10, Publisher build 174. I only found this by accident. I can imagine why, when dragging a new guide out, it might be useful to turn the Preview Mode off - if only temporarily at least - but I don't see why a simple click should do it also since clicking on a ruler doesn't actually do anything else (as far as I know, it doesn't look like it does).
  23. Hi, I am not able to 'pull' the ruler on to the work area (document workspace) anymore. I'm pretty sure i could do that in the earlier beta version. But then I might be missing something. Love Affinity Publisher though. Great work! Neil
  24. Hi all What does this ruler show? I cannot read these markings as millimeters ...
