  1. Here's a silly bit of nostalgia for those in the UK of a certain "vintage". (All done in AD.) I think I've managed to get the screen reflection and graininess of an old TV about right but it's just a bit of fun. Time to get a cold can of Quatro out of the fridge and sit back to watch The Gaffer on TV.
  2. Inspired by the magnificent Joan Holloway character in Madmen, played by Christina Hendricks. Affinity Designer. I'm still getting to grips with some of the features. I started using the Vector Brush Tool (to make those silhouettes of the passers-by. I like the way it seems to auto-smooth the line, which is a feature I'd really like. Really well done to you people at Serif for making a full-on professional tool. I have no qualms about using this for client-work.
  3. A 'vintage' retro poster for a poster/print for my special interest site www.scooterissimo.club I couldn't imagine pillion passengers riding sidesaddle on a motorbike now but they used to do this...
  4. Just completed this piece. A VERY stylized 1964 Chevy Greenbrier van in Designer. ;-) What started out as a client job became a personal piece after they decided not to pursue the project. I'm planning to build this in Blender eventually so I thought this could serve as a fairly tight 2d colour study and a chance to get a little more practice in using some of the pixel painting features of Designer. Also shown is a wireframe screenshot, layers stack and a closer view of the headlights where most of the pixel work was done. Vroom, vroom!
  5. Hi guys, here is a logo for an euro-dance tour which begins in a couple of months in Spain. We created every single piece of artwork with Affinity Designer & Photo, from branding to stage decorations. Except for video, of course :-) More info: http://yosaliadefiestaenlos90.com
  6. A vector illustration -There are no 'Pixel Persona' layers in this one because I removed them. They didn't seem to add anything worthwhile to this image. There are a few textures though -the main one being a photograph of one of the sandstone paving slabs on my patio. Another thing about the working file is that after a few raster images were added, the file became quite sluggish to work with. I'm not sure if I'm approaching this the wrong way. Since it's vector, perhaps I didn't need to create the file at 300dpi? Some advice is needed for that. I started with a sketch in Pixel Persona -that really is a great function of AD. I find it very useful. Best wishes, Kevin
  7. A 'vintage' poster made from a public domain image and a some textures scanned from old book endpapers and a back cover. The quote is a genuine reply to a question on the Guardian website some years ago. In amongst all the sensible replies, one Stuart from Bristol posted it. So, all credit to Stuart of Bristol who seems to be untraceable. Maybe he'll see this and make contact for I think he wins the Internet.
  8. Hi all, I'm thinking of ways that I can use old illustrations of mine and give them new life. I have all my acrylics artwork scanned and archived. A2 Poster: Coffeebot. Approved by the US Fed. Bureau of Caffeine Control and HM Ministry of Beverages.
  9. Hi everybody, 80s retro graphic design for a famous french DJ (and a friend). He asked me to illustrate his podcast channels. We have validated together a retro 80s design style with all the codes of this period. Here are the first two design of this project ... Fully made with Affinity Photo. Enjoy it :-) Note : I hope the 1.5 version will solves the issues I met during the process.
  10. My first vector work and my first time using Affinity Designer, some 1980's and 1990's computers for a project I'm working on.
  11. This is my riff on the Photoshop tutorial How to Create a Retro Sci-Fi Computer Game Poster from the Spoon Graphics blog. With some modifications I was able to complete this entirely with Affinity Designer.
  12. Another experiment in lo-fi effects. AD more than holding its own at this point, despite me probably pushing my luck with file complexity :D
  13. Some more messing about while I wait for "real" jobs to come in.
  14. Was trying something different here, attempting to recreate the look of printed material. To this end I've create patterns of 1000s of dots to try and get that letratone/halftone feel. What's impressive is that Affinity Designer's devs aren't kidding when they say the thing never slows down or runs out of memory. It really doesn't. I think this number of objects would have made AI weep tears of blood...
  15. The first in a series of space exploration themed posters featuring quotes from Carl Sagan.
  16. A little taste of retro: vector illustration (AD), finished with Affinity Photo beta.
  17. Hi everyone. I am new to Affinity Designer. I really love drawing in flat color vectors at the moment, so this is my first attempt at using AD. I didn't realize there was anything in the help files at first so it's mostly just trial and error. The interface is fairly intuitive but I admit I am having some challenges figuring out how to keep line & fill colors consistent. I'd love to be able to select a line or shape and simply eye-dropper from an existing one. And I can't seem to figure out how to drag colors into my swatches palette and there are a few things I'd love to see added but I'll look for a suggestion thread here :) I really love the software already. I hope you like this. Thanks for looking!

  19. Overdone topic I know, started this a week ago with the news of that the shoes are to going on sale this year. It then found its way to the top of my "Avoiding real work todo list". (Don't worry, Pirate Cat riding a polar bear is NOT forgot and is in build)
  20. Had fun doing this, the new tapered brushes are pretty cool!. My Racing Queen was entirely done with RC-1. Minor glitches Had one freeze after: 1. using the top of the new tapered brushes, 2. then zooming in and 3. trying to select the drawn elements with a frame. Flying menus turned grey and the frame did not vanish. Unable to click anything after this, but happily SAVE worked like a charm. After re-opening some elements got an additional fill (all on the layer where I tried to select them) but with some mouseclicks it was fine again. Pencil tool: when drawing line is not visible - so it is still a bit 'try and error'. Brushes: I really like the additions, very useful. A bit of tweaking is needed for the Tapered Brushes. Sometimes, when drawing lines, the end of the line get's capped/ cut-off like you were using a square shaped brush. Tried this with different sizes and settings (velocity/ pressure/transparency): result is - the bigger the brushsize the more edgy your line-end. I also found the new brushes a bit laggy with the Companion Hybrid and the Bamboo. While the greyout of boxes has happened several times already I NEVER lost a sketch here. Find this very impressive. Some fully finished programs make me bang my head against the wall quite often ;)
