  1. Just tested frequency separation on my new 2018 iPad Pro (12.9”) and noticed it seems to burn the image on two layers and over saturate with too much contrast instead of creating a blur on the low image and a high pass on the high image. Did this simultaneously on a 2015 iPad Pro which worked flawlessly so seems to be a compatibility issue with the 2018 hardware. Also parts of the image disappear when using the history studio. Both devices running iOS 12.1.
  2. Would love to make contact with anyone or all that are using Affinity for the restoration of old and vintage photos. Am interested in the techniques you are using, work flow, etc. I am currently using Photoshop CC 2018 and would like to move away from. Have been a Serif user for many years and have always had excellent success with their software. Just trying to short-circuit the learning curve to get started with Affinity. Many thanks to those that respond and be assured I will return the courtesy. Jerry Snow - Pop's Custom Products
  3. When doing portrait retouching, I use the patch tool to repair certain areas of the skin. In Photoshop there is an option to fade the selection. This makes the patch beautifully fade in with the surroundings and is practically invisible. I us this a lot. I can't find this in Affinity Photo. Is there a way to make this work?
  4. Hi everyone, I recently wrote a post on my blog covering my workflow regarding the steps I follow when I'm editing a portrait. I also made available a PDF file with the same checklist I use so you can download it. The post is available both is Portuguese and English. [PT] http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/lista-de-tarefas-edicao-de-retrato/ [EN] http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/portrait-retouching-checklist/?lang=en There are also other articles talking about Affinity and other free resources. Let me know if it was useful. Cheers

    Portrait Retouching

I can't find a thread for portrait retouching. If there's already, please point me there and remove this thread.
  6. I was hoping the workbook would go into a bit more detail. For example page 271 introduces using Frequency Separation and says (for Radius) "a setting of 1.5 px is perfect as it pulls enough skin texture into the high frequency layer (detail) without pulling through too much of the tonal imperfections". Another tutorial (video) suggests a setting of more like 8 px. It would be great if some tutorial video would go into depth on this topic showing examples and explaining why different values might be choosen. I tried "Adjusting Skin Tone" (pages 274 & 275) on one of my own photos and it "didn't work" (certainly it didn't have the effect I expected). This needs a bit more explanation of what they are trying to achieve. I was trying to smooth out some "blotchy" skin and thought this technique might work but it didn't.
  7. The retouching tools are useless in 32 bit, all they do is painting grey areas. I've attached screenshots for all the tools (inpainting brush, healing brush, blemish removal brush, patch tool). I first tried to use the healing brush which introduced grey areas (screenshot "Healing_brush_32_bit"). I then tried to remove those grey areas using the inpainting brush (screenshot "Inpainting_brush_32_bit") which only expanded the grey areas. I then tried the blemish removal tool (screenshot "Blemish_removal_tool_32_bit") which painted a circle of grey and last but not least I tested the patch tool (screenshot "Patch_tool_32_bit") which also did nothing more than painting a big grey area. There is also a bug concerning the display of masks in 32 bit files. The preview exposure influences the display of masks. I attached two more screenshots, one with the mask like I drew it. I then increased the 32 bit preview exposure and the grey areas of the mask became white. I really don't think that changing the preview exposure should in any way influence how the masks are displayed.
  8. The picture that I captured had a lot of haze and dullness in it. So, I tried to retrieve some of those natural colours back inside AP Sharing the original image and the retouched version. Critics and feedback welcome!!

  10. Hi Serif guys, what a great and powerful iPad app you've create, absolutely love it! I hope the picture could make my thoughts clear. When you do retouching work on iPad, Clone Tool/Healing Brush is a must tool, and you need to constantly change sampling points around the target area to avoid repeating patterns. Use the finger hold and wait few seconds, choosing sampling point, then raise your finger and put the Apple Pencil down back to the screen to retouch the target area is LOW-efficient and Inaccurate. Also, while using brush tool to paint local color, we need constantly sample certain color near the Pencil tip on canvas, that means Eyedropper-Brush Tool quick switching in a flash. In desktop environments, like Photoshop, the function key Option (Mac) / ALT (Windows) on the keyboard does the job perfectly -- press the function key, use wacom's pen tip to sample in tiny area on screen. We have Apple Pencil and iPad Pro now, but we don't have that Cintiq (or Intuos) experience yet. I just couldn't find an efficient method on iPad version Affinity Photo to switch between relative tools. So, can you consider adding a shortcut key on the screen? Make it a functional on-the-go retouching and painting tablet. Thanks!
  11. Hi again, I took about 500 photos over the weekend of a private family function and I wished to know how to edit the photos so that I can achieve the effect as shown in the screenshot below: Is there a fast or easy way to do it without much fuss? And in a way that I can duplicate the effect either using presets in develop persona or using batch processing in photo persona Thank you
  12. When trying to use Selection Brush Tool, for replacing background with pure white, (following Projects- Product Shot Retouching vimeo), I have run into a problem: Im using a regular JPG image and my Background layer is selected. After clicking on the above brush tool and dragging over the area needed in image, nothing happens. The cursor has changed to a cross-hairs. Under 'History', every time I drag and release, another 'Rastor smart selection brush end drag' line is added. Under 'Layers', the Background (pixel) layer is still selected, with no extra layers added. I am using the latest build- 1.5.1.54 Thanks!
  13. Hi all, Back in PS land, I use a lot of channel masking when it came to copying and pasting high frequency layers. I've worked out how to do the same in Affinity Photo for the first layer, but when I copy a selected part of the layer and paste it, it copies all the child layers. I've added the screenshot to illustrate this. Is there a way to stop this? It's pretty inefficient having to clear the layers as the number compounds each time I copy and paste. It's one of the few times I've seen the beachball appear while using the program. Thanks in advance!
  14. I am a Retoucher. I use Blend if a lot in Photoshop to restrict adjustments to shadows or highlights. Does Affinity Photo have this function? Do any retouchers use AP for professional work?
  15. hi guys in this vidio i will show you how to retrouch model hope u like it :'( final: tutorial:(vidio)
  16. Hello everyone, I just make a big test of affinity photo and I find some littles things missed. - Invert layer mask like cmd I - put a D&B fonction like the split separation ( curve or 50% grey ) - enable merge all the layers fonction - right click on brush for selecting brush and size - Enable custom shortcut (for wacom tablet users, like the brush size) - add the small color block on the left tool panel ( for seeing wich color i use without the "color" studio ) And that's it thank you in advance , this is a great software guys Felix Barjou
  17. This was a picture that I shot I had been wanting to retouch for quite some time. I am just posting the final image only. I know this model and dear friend. I know she would not want me to post a picture of her before so out of respect I will not. Anyway, I used the two techniques explained in my youtube video this week on Frequency Separation and the Inpainting Brush. Check them out if you haven't.
