  1. I cannot seem to resize a particular document that I have spent a few hours working on. My solution is to create a new document and paste all the elements from the old one. When I go to File => Document Setup, I see that under the Dimensions section, the "Type", "Page Preset", "Dimensions", "Objects will: " and "Resample" controls are disabled (i.e. darkened and uneditable). I cannot seem to figure out why this is so. I tried restarting Designer and re-opening the document and it still is this way. Did I lock the document somehow? I am using the 10 day trial version but I still have some days left in the trial. Designer is great BTW and I want to buy a license at the end of the trial, but for now I need to be able to resize the document. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. I'd love to be able to "resize canvas to selected objects" or, perhaps even better, "create new from clipboard". So far, that's my only missing feature... Hopefully it's an easy feature to implement too! :) All the best, keep up the great work-- -Sunny
  3. There's a small problem when resizing an object by dragging the handlers. When you use the corner handlers, sometimes you have to hold SHIFT to resize an object proportionally, other times you have to avoid holding SHIFT to resize it proportionally. Every time it's different Cheers, Chris
  4. Hi guys, Is there a way to fit an object to the canvas dimensions, without using snapping or using the width/height input fields? Like a simple option "fit to canvas width or height"? Thanks, Chris
  5. In v.1.6.5.61, when I import new photos from iOS Photos, they would always get resized and also lose all the metadata. Normal iPhone photos are 4032x3024. They’d always get resized to 3072x2304 and I don’t see how I’d be able to control this behavior. Furthermore, all the metadata is lost. Please see the screenshots. This doesn’t happen when I used the app about a few weeks ago, which I couldn’t pinpoint the version number. (It was around the time that Affinity Photo was on sale). I’m running iOS 11.2.1 on my iPad Pro 12.9 2nd Gen.
  6. Hi, When I resize a image I get a white border at the left side, but when I export the result has no border. When I do the same in Photoshop or Paintshop Pro 2018 they look perfect. Also the crop tool doesn't snap to the border of the document, this is a even bigger error! Regards, David
  7. When I import a HEIC file from photos, AP reduces the dimensions of the file from 4032x3024 to 3072x2304. This happens on all HEIC files but not JPGs. Why is this happening? Thanks!
  8. Finally I had time to play more with AD and here my two biggest gripes atm: 1. Why on earth keyboard shortcuts to align/distribute don't respect settings? In dropodown window I have set for example "last selcted" and from there it works as it should, but keyboard shortcut or even button on toolbar ignores this and always aligns to selection bounds. Also last selected object is inversly detected when selecting by click and drag. 2. When resizing text by diagonal handle, default behavior is to scale it proportionally, but when resizing other objects to do so I must hold Shift - it's very unintuitive
  9. I am not sure whether this is the right forum for this, but I haven't found one feature which I have used often in Photoshop or even PS Elements, which is what I could afford. Anyway; if I make an illustration for print, I often want to make a copy optimized for web, but if I use Resize Image in Affinity Photo (on the iPad as well as on the iMac) I don't get an optimized result, only a copy which looks like one with poorer quality. Now, the way I learnt to do it in Photoshop, is as follows: 1. Open the Resize Image dialogue box and deselect Resample Image. 2.Resize image from 300 dpi to 72 dpi - image dimensions (Document size) increases in pixels or millimeters or whatever you choose. 3. Reselect Resample Image and set the desired dimensions and click OK 3. Choose Saw For Web, select location and save. Et voilá! You will have a lighter low res copy which will look just as sharp and pristine on the web as the hi res print version. (I'll attach screenshots to help explaining. Does this exist in Affinity Photo or if not, is it on the roadmap?
  10. I’ve recorded a macro that would resize 600 ppi images to 300 ppi, and another that would paste a line of text (I would like to use a variable like “current date” but that’s not possible, so I just use the year and add the rest manually later). These I would stack (plus some others like add a curve adjustment layer) and run on a folder of some hundred images. For now (that is, in Affinity Photo 1.6.6) this seems to work only under the most ideal circumstances, that is, if all the images have the exact same dimension and orientation. Let’s say to record the macro, I resized the first image from 4000 × 6000 pixels at 600 ppi to 2000 × 3000 pixels at 300 ppi while keeping the physical dimensions at ~ 169 × 254 mm. Now in the batch process, images with 2000 × 2400, 2400 × 2000 (please note the crucial difference: landscape instead of portrait), 4000 × 1000 or whatever size and proportion will be resized to 1000 × 1200 pixels at 300 ppi … All I want to do is reduce the resolution but keep the physical dimensions and orientation of each image. In the same vein, the text I paste is distorted if the target image has different proportions than the source.
  11. This is a bug in the floating windows handling .... it's hardly impossible to resize a floating window in AP .... please check and work on this! See attached video! It seems this does not occur on developers machines - elswise that would have been taken care of long time ago ... it is close to impossible to change the windows dimensions! (In conjunction with the desasterous floating windows handling in AP please check this for improvement!) - there are people out there that really try to USE your SW - professionally ... please keep that in mind ... and don't igore their workflow needs! Cheers, Timo window resize.mp4
  12. Hello Found a strange behaviour or bug Often in work i resize images with already added effects and there i get some issues, effect sometimes change their settings when i undo/redo things. Worst thing that history can't be reverted in history panel. My english isn't the best so better i give a link to recorded video with this "issue". affinity photo version 1.6.0.89 Windows 10 (1709) GPU GTX 970 with latest drivers CPU 4790k

    Batch Job Destroys/Corrupts Images

Affinity Photo 1.6.6 macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 After adding a bunch of images of the same photo session to a batch job in order to resize them, Affinity Photo corrupts/destroys some images by adding solid white almost throughout the whole image, while other images are OK. Attached is an archive containing the same 4 images - before and after a batch resize. The 2 get corrupted every time after a batch job, while the other 2 are OK. Affinity Batch Bug.zip
  14. Why is the resized jpeg image blurry even when the aspect ratio is preserved going to a smaller size?
  15. How do I prevent child shapes from resizing when moving ther parent shape's boundaries?
  16. menu ->resize I tried to reduce the size of the canvas by resizing the resize function. However, since there is no guide information, I have to adjust the size by guess
  17. When enlarging the canvas it would be nice to be able to specify the colour fill for area that appears around the image. One reason is that I use this to add colour borders to images and it would be handy if I could say 'make the border white' or grey, or black, etc. Thanks!
  18. Hi hope someone can help. I´m new to Affinity Photo, my question is fairly simple: Is there any way to change resize key from bracket keys, and not having to do it for every single tool that can resize, as in a master resize? my problem is my keyboard is Nordic, which means i do not have bracket keys, nor tilde key - and i probably miss other keys too, and so far i have to change the size keys individually. thanks in advance Max P.S. i searched the forums for a while but could not find a similar question.
  19. I tried rearranging the panels within the right hand studio area, to see if it improved my workflow. Discovered that I lose the ability to resize the Stroke panel, and also that changing between the Stroke and Brush tabs causes a strange jump in size.
  20. I understand there is a right dot you can grab and resize, but is there a way to resize using the transformation tool?

    Resample algorithm bug

All of the resample implementations you're using for resize suffer from a common bug of either not taking half pixel offsets into account or not using a clamp operation at the edges. This results in the document being shifted by a pixel in each direction after the resample. This can be verified on a transparent image with a black border at the left and top edges. After a resample you'll see that your algorithm introduces transparency along those edges and shifts the content.
  22. I draw in Affinity Photo and I've seen people draw and resize the lineart on YT. I just can't figure it out... Please give me a hand so I don't have to undo or erase and redraw the thing.
  23. Hi everyone, I currently work on vans. The bodyshell file (attached) is on a scale 1:30 As I seed to send it later for print it, I prefer to work 1:1 Unfortunately, when I want to resize it ten times bigger (by changing the dimensions on the bottom right of the window), all the lines become so thin that I can barely see them. I want to work full size but without changing the look of it. Anyone could help me on this one ? Thanks guys
  24. It would be convenient when changing the document size automatically recalculate the size (for non pixel units) <-> DPI as in Photoshop when "Resample" is disabled: The dialog might look something like this:
  25. I just bought Affinity Designer yesterday. First of all, great job! I've been working in vector art for over a decade and I'm impressed with your innovation. The good: Your pen tools are far superior to anything else I have used thus far. Awesome set of shape tools - the most comprehensive so far. The visual controls to alter them save me a lot of time ie. rounded corners on the fly. Nice touch with the transparency tool - this was so frustrating in Adobe Illustrator. The customizable UI is sleek and intuitive The bad: Where is the line smoothing? Every vector illustration software I've ever used had this feature. It is standard workflow to 1)rough in your illustration, 2)smooth, then 3)hand edit the node handles. I found something promising in the node area called 'convert to smooth', but it actually added more nodes. This is the exact opposite of what smoothing should do! Where is the raster to vector trace equivalent? I looked everywhere and I can't figure this out. This is such a common function for artists working between mediums - you're basically excluding them right from he start. For reference check out Adobe Illustrator's powerful image trace palette. Restrain proportions/dimensions when resizing elements is not consistent. Placed images and text will stay proportional by holding down ALT. Everything else stays proportional while holding down shift. Why the inconsistency? I can't seem to figure out how to lock objects without having to go to the layer palette and doing it manually. Thanks for the hard work! I've been in software development for 12 years. I know the sacrifices made and wish you the best of luck.
