  1. Hi! Somebody can tell me about possibility to implement multiple footnote/endnote threads in upcoming Affinity Publisher?
  2. Hi, In Adobe's apps like ID, PS, AI, every value or setings you change becomes default for the new document you open. It would be really great if Affinity products can work like this.
  3. Out of interest, can any one over at serif give any insight into the likely learning curve someone will have when moving from PPx9 to Affinity Pub? Are there similarities - any feedback would be very useful at this stage...
  4. Hi, I have high hopes for Affinity Publisher. There is still a thing that are really hard to do with Indesign that is easily achieved with HTML and CSS, inline styled blocks. I would love to be able to select one or more paragraphs and apply a block style to them. Currently you can’t do that in Indesign without creating a separate block that will not flow with the rest of the text. Last time I had a page to layout with multiple blocks after trying to do it in Indesign I opted to use HTML and CSS and then convert it to PDF using PrinceXML.
  5. I noticed that Affinity software is capable of detecting that there is another Affinity software installed on a computer. My suggestion is, when Affinity noticed that you have all 3 software installed. When you open the last software you bought, the first thing you see is somekind of a letter from the developer titled "Achievement completed : The Holy Trinity" or "Thanks for the support" or something like that. I think this is a simple thing to do but have great impact on making you sound less like a corporation but instead sound like a person.
  6. Hi, very positively surprised of the new Forum look and the additional info. Finally, there is some info about Publisher and here are my requests regarding it: 1. Master pages must have the same funcionality like those one in Quark. It means that you can select, edit, move, delete... them on the workout pages. If you don't want some of them to be editable, movable... it can be done on master page(s). 2. Paragraph and Character styles should work the same way like in InDesign. Characters attributes are part of the Paragraph Styles and can be, also, defined in Character Styles. Why is this so much important? If you have some words in a paragraph with local formating (bold, italic...) and you ALT click on a paragraph style, these local formating will be lost. If you create a character style with style "Bold" and all other attributes are left as "------" or "None", then whenever you change the font in paragraph style, the text formated with this character style will take the same font and ALT click on a paragraph style won't change it.. If you create a character style with font "Myriad Pro" and style "Bold" and all other attributes are left as "------" or "None", then whenever you change the font in paragraph style, the text formated with this character style will always be Myriad Pro Bold and ALT click on a paragraph style won't change it. Quark's Paragraph and Character styles are very confusing to work with.
  7. Affinity Publisher sneak peek! Just to prove we're not making the whole thing up, check out this early build of our DTP app. Still lots of perfecting to do; expect the beta next summer. Enjoy. Update: I think we have answered all the questions we can about Publisher before the beta starts. Hopefully the public beta will answer any remaining questions when it starts at the end of August. This thread is now locked.
  8. Hi Everyone, Staff Well i know there are couples of subjects concerning the possibility to create mockups with ADesigner or APhoto but ... what if we are simply missing the point and trying to recreate another aready existing Adobe concept? i mean, Designer is a vector oriented software (with pixel persona i know) and Photo is Pixel oriented (with much more we all believe we have seen there) but on the other hand Publisher look similar to inDesign, a place you put together things you ahev designer on both hands (Vectors and Pixels). What if the possibility of creating mockups is implemented into Publisher instead of ADesigner or Aphoto. let's say i have to design a Flyer/Poster with vectors and photos/pictures (well even a business card ... don't why i chosed a Poster). I would: 1- Prepared everything vector with designer and save them in a folder as .afdesign file 2- Work on my photo/picture (this takes times so ... better make it with the right tool) the save it into another folder as .afphoto file 3- Create my project using the right profile (A3 Print, CMYK/8) then simply place what i've created in there and adjust them to fit and APub would be also what i would use for text and blending (if needed) and from there have an option of creating a mockup from that precise place (APub). Well the option for creating mockups should be Auto (for Beginners) and Manual (for advanced peoples). My point here is, if APub can take care of "smart objects" and the whole mockup thing then Photograph would focus on APhoto and enjoy the power of the tool when illustrators would enjoy the power of ADesigner when those who work on Publishing document and making demos etc... would also focus and enjoy APub. To me this will help the respective teams to not try to create things that can create great confusion if we realize it's not where it should be or simply ... we have all asked for another Adobe like piece of software. Maybe we will see a community of Mockups Creator/Designer surface/migrate/be born into the Affinity space, peoples who will create then share/sell what will save life but stay focus and improve into doing that and helping the Serif Publisher team to improve that functionality for that precise software. it's just an idea, what do you think about or have to add. Please i may have missed an already said thing but feel free to direct me. Blessings !
  9. Does anyone have any idea when we will see Publisher?

  11. Hello, the summer is approaching and we are eager to see how Publisher progresses. Would you be so kind to give us another short video?
  12. Hi. I have a question regardin Affinity Publisher. Whot languages do you plan to initially support? I don't mean UI, but text input (grammar and so on)
  13. I'm not sure if this question has been asked before but I think the answer will be interesting. Basically what I'm asking is: What functionality does Designer have that Publisher will not have? Or, to put it another way: Once I have Publisher, what will I need Designer for? There has been a lot of discussion about what functionality Publisher should have but I've not read anything about what Publisher will not - or should not - have. I only ask as Designer already does most of what a DTP application should do except for things like text flow, linked frames, and some other stuff, so I'm wondering how Designer and Publisher will be different from each other. For instance, will Publisher have the Pixel persona and pixel tools that Designer has, or will those be dropped? Or will Publisher have fewer effects or adjustments? Or will Publisher have fewer export options? Etc. Etc. If, to put it simply, "Publisher = Designer + Other Tools" then there would be no need for Designer, so I think it's a reasonable assumption to make that something will be "missing" and I was just wondering what that will be. Does anyone have any actual details? (I realise that Publisher isn't in Beta yet but I would guess that someone must have a reasonable idea about what it will/won't do so near to a release date.)
  14. Hi, lets put the things this way: We create new folders (and additional, if needed) for every new customer. In these folders we put every vector, bitmap files we need for the current job. When we open the main file, all other used files from the subfolders are loaded into that file. So, could it be done the fonts, we put in the main folder, to be temporarily instaled and loaded while we work on our design?
  15. 1. Would I be able to open files created in InDesign or QuarkXpress in Publisher like I can do with Illustrator files in Designer and Photoshop files in Photo? I use InDesign a lot want to know if I need to start converting files before Publisher is released and before I let go of my Adobe Subscription. 2. Would we be able to create interactive PDFs as we can do in InDesign? Hyperlinks, Cross-Referencing, Table of Contents, etc.? 3. Any news on release date for Publisher?
  16. All right; let me get relevant here : This applies to Designer, Photo and APub when it eventually hits the streets. The right-click context menu is not contextual. It displays the same options when, let's say the Pen tool, and the Node tool are selected, as so: Here's a screen snag of the drawing program I've been using for the past 20 years: This just makes sense, doesn't it? Let's just suppose I'm working in APub right now, I've got the Text tool highlighting several words If I right-click, I'd love (expect) options for rEVERSE cASE, Title Case, lowercase, and so on. If I right-click on a ruler, I'd expect to be offered Units, Zeroing the ruler, Create Decimal tabs, not exactly what I'm suggest, but do you understand what I wish for? More power out of an existing feature. TIA & My Best, Gary Bouton [Author Author]
  17. It would be a nice surprise if Publisher features this on Master Page(s): editable master elements on working pages (QuarkXPress); allowing multiple instances of page number(s) -- good for preparing tickets; together with number 2: page numbers with leading 0's or some other character(s) with option > number of leading chars to be user defined.
  18. When Publisher is released, will it be a separate purchase? If I buy the Designer, can't I do some of the DTP?
  19. Seems to me, in my not-so-humble opinion, that if one of Affinity's programs is named Designer, and another (someday) Publisher, then the third should be Photographer. Of course it isn't, no doubt at least partly because that would sound like an online magazine or something, and also because many more people than just photographers use it. So try this idea (I know it's too late but humor me): Affinity Photo, Affinity Design, Affinity Publish. (The last would have the added benefit of avoiding any confusion with Microsoft's pathetic attempt at DTP.) Smart, huh? You guys should give me a job…
  20. I just discovered, to my chagrin, that PagePlus X9 doesn't support ligatures, those special characters which, in Open Type fonts, "stand in" for certain letter combinations, usually those involving 'f'. See the png below for an example. Now, I know that only old-school has-beens like me care about such things, and I also know that there's nothing to be done about (legacy) PagePlus. But InDesign does it with elan, and it would behoove the Affinity team to at least consider doing it in Publisher. It's a nice touch that veritably screams professionalism.
  21. At the risk of starting a flame war: My Adobe subscription expires in May (hooray!) and I intend to a) not renew it, and ii) complete the transition to Affinity. I already have Designer and Photo and am learning how to use them, BUT...Publisher may not be ready for Prime Time in May. No aspersion intended to the team—coding for page layout must be inherently more complex than for vector or bitmap manipulation—and we should appreciate the team's dedication to producing a quality product, not their adherence to a schedule. So my question is: what are people using in the "not-InDesign" category while they wait for Publisher?
  22. I noticed there is what appears to be an historical version which a license is still available; but in one of my other posts someone mentioned there may be a future version. Anyone have any insight? Thanks
  23. Hello all, I'm very curious when the Publisher will be available in Beta version. Till now I'm using the quite expensive InDesign from Adobe. I would be interested whether there will be a plug in available for the new Affinity Publisher that plugs in into a database like MySQL or Firebird to create a Database-Publishing system for creating documentation like catalogues or user manuals in multiple languages!! I would like to hear from you whether this kind of program has been planned to be published by Affinity!!! Kind regards, Wolfgang

    Logo Redesign

What do you guys think about the logos being updated? I think they look pretty poor. More like this? I was a lot more strict geometrically. Don't mind criticism.
  25. Hi there, i am looking forward to the public beta of affinity publisher. The question is very simple. Will a server version of Publisher be available to generate publisher files automatically via templates from external content resources like a cms? This would be the only interesting point for my company to have a look and finally use at the publisher in production. If yes, i would like apply to a closed beta (to gain some speed) of the server to develop an open source module for the popular Drupal CMS and therfore also for the popular publishing distribution of drupal the Thunder CMS. But just the message: Server, yes! would be nice Best wishes Johannes
