I don’t know if this would be useful to anyone else so I’ll post it as a question first before putting in a request (if necessary). I have often thought it would be useful, when manually trying to get nicely-justified text, if the first word on the next line could be shown at the end of the previous line in a sort of ‘ghost’ form (see attached image where the word at the end of the line – in light orange – actually comes from the next line). This would make it a lot easier to see how much of the text was missing from the line so I could make a better judgement on what tracking/kerning/scale options I can use to get the text to fit nicely. For instance, in my example on line 3, a little bit of a tracking change could easily bring “male” back from the next line and remove the gap to the right. The user can then go down the text line by line getting rid of the space as necessary before justifying the text. Obviously this feature shouldn’t be on all of the time; maybe it could be a View option, or part of a Typography Persona with other such tools. Does anyone else think this is something that’s worth requesting, or is it just me? P.S. I don’t know what the proper term for this is, if there is one, so I called it “Ghosted Text Overshoot”. Googling for it won’t get you much of an answer.

Hello, I have a question. I have 160 designer files with the same dimensions. How can I import them as pages without placing them one by one in one Publisher file?

Hello, I downloaded Photo en Designer from the MAS, but downloaded Publisher from you guys directly. I like to change that so I can get Publisher from the MAC as well regarding overview/updates. Is it possible to get a refund or is that some other way in which we can arrange this? Thank you. best, Remy

Ok so I need to understand if this is working as intended. I have a Frame Text Box on a normal page, I paste in my text and its more than my box. Ok no problem. I now shift click the little icon as shown below to create more pages with the same box until all text has shows on a page. Great I love it. Now If I create ANOTHER Frame Text box on the same original normal page, paste in the text which again overflows and SHIFT CLICK it ignores all the existing pages and creates a whole new set of pages with just this frame text box. Why does it not apply to the existing pages? Is there a command/keystroke I am missing to make it apply to existing pages? Thoughts?

I'm trying to publish a paperback book on Amazon/KDP using Affinity Publisher. The problem is that half of the pages are missing when previewed on KDP. Per the KDP instructions, I created the AP document with "facing pages" layout (so margins and gutters are OK). My AP book contains 76 pages but the exported PDF only contains 39 pages. Page 1 in the PDF is OK but the remaining pages are "double-wides" -- each containing 2 "book pages". It looks like KDP is chopping off the right half of each PDF page so only the even-numbered (left-side) pages are left. I've contacted Amazon support but I'm guessing they're going to tell me to create a PDF with 76 pages -- i.e. one book page per PDF page. I've looked around the AP export options and don't see any way to do this. So, the question is, how do I export a 76-page "facing pages" document to a 76 page "single page" PDF? I hope this makes sense -- it's a little confusing. Thanks.

I have pictures inserted into text with jump option to let text above and under picture. I want the picture to be centered on the page. When I set the anchor for a picture it stores vertical and horizontal position. Then il the text is modified the image moves to follow the new anchor position. That's great if a line of text is added or removed but if only a few words are added ou removed, the horizontal position of the picture isn't accurate any more... I should recenter it manually... that's really boring for me because I have a lot of such images. Is there anything I missed to let me fix the horizontal position of the image but not the vertical one ? Hope you could me the way...

Publisher v. 1.7.3.481 on Windows 10 Home, 64-bit. I am producing magazines, importing Word files and/or clean, unformatted text, inserting mainly .jpg files. On several occasions, an inserted or placed image will suddenly not be "reachable", instead being displayed as belonging to a master page. That means that I am no longer able to move, edit, crop, replace or even remove the image. The Layers panel displays the image as belonging to the master page where it should not be. I cannot delete or move it from the Layers panel. The master page itself seems unchanged and OK and does not contain the errant image. The trouble is that it seems to happen randomly even to other - but not all - single images than the one currently being worked on, forcing me to step back and lose any intermediate work done to my whole document. If I discover the problem in time... Here is a screenshot of how the image is shown (on the left) as if on a master page and in the Layers panel under Master page. Also, the text element shown under the image in the Layers panel is also errant as seen in the next screenshot. When opening the original .afpub file, please note that the bridge image on page 18 is an image placed on top of the offending image (my workaraound!) NytOmGammelt2019-04.afpub

Hi - I've been tinkering with Publisher and want to leave the current program I use, but am stuck on what's probably a simple solution. I'm trying to fill a rectangle and want the fill to transition horizontally like in the attachment, but I can only get it to vertically, blue on left, red in middle, yellow on right. I'm sure there's something very simple I'm missing, but I can't figure it out. In the program I currently use, there's an "angle" adjust to rotate the fill to any orientation I want. Thanks!

I have an automatic process where I pass a parameter into crystal reports, it will create a chart and print a pdf file. I do this every month for maybe a hundred different parameters. For a landscape piece of paper, the chart that is created takes up the top left quadrant and everything else is whitespace. I need to import just the image -- eliminating the white space. Indesign had a feature called "crop to bounding box". You got there by selecting the import options checkbox when placing the pdf file. This would do what I needed -- cropped the document to just the image and place it within the picture frame. I'm trying to see if publisher can do the same thing. When I place the image and double click on it, I get the page box in the context toolbar that has several choices -- one of which is trimbox another is cropbox. If I then go to edit document, I see the image with blue lines around it -- giving the impression the image would be cropped. But I have not been able to figure out how to actually crop it and then transfer the image into the picture frame. The approach I'm using seems like the "right" approach but I'm missing some details. Perhaps there is alternative way to do this within the file/place process -- similar to the crop to the bounding box approach. Thanks for any inut. Greg

This may not be a bug, but a limitation of the software. I am an architect and use Designer for site analysis graphics, amongst many other uses. The graphics tend to be built up using many layers, each of which has a unique bit of data. I then bring the graphic into publisher and select which layers I want to show. Two things: I have found that if I copy an placed asset and double click to edit the layers, the layer changes will affect the copy and the original. So to avoid this, I place a fresh instance of the graphic for each view. This works fine. Until... If I make a change to the original designer file, the resource manager quite helpfully tells me to update the content in the publisher file. But... every instance of the placed graphic then gets reset to the same layer settings, so I have to go through the whole report, resetting all the layer structures. Is there a way of the placed asset remembering the layer settings? If not, can I please request this as a tweak to the next iteration of Publisher? Many thanks. Loving the software.

Suspecting bug but maybe I have a setting messed up. 1. Draw a box on left spread - drag to margin so it snaps on 2. Draw a box on right spread - drag to margin so it snaps on 3. Select left Box - Go to transform panel and resize it by a random amount -- it "Jumps" off the margin 4. Select the right box - go to transform panel and resize it by a random amount, it stays locked to the margin and no further adjustments needed Anyone else able to re-produce this? I'm on mac 1.7.3 / Publisher

Apologies for the title of the thread, I tried to be succinct. Double-clicking the bottom-centre adjustment handle of a text frame shrinks the frame to the size of the visible text by adjusting the height while keeping the top of the frame where it is. This is a documented function. Double-clicking the top-centre adjustment handle does similar but keeps the bottom of the frame where it is. As far as I can tell, this is an undocumented function. That’s fine, but, as part of a discussion here https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/100879-resize-text-frame-to-fit-copy-within/ I found that double-clicking the left-centre or right-centre adjustment handle of a text frame sometimes resizes the width of the frame. However, I couldn’t figure out what the resize criteria was. In other words, I don’t know how Publisher calculates the new frame width. See my GIF in the linked thread for an example of each. Does anyone know how the new frame width is calculated?

Is there a way to keep all of the formatting on a TOC text area after you update the TOC content? When I update the TOC area it resets any new tabs and specific character formatting I have applied to the page numbers. Also, is there possibly a way to have the TOC page numbers appear without the associated text? Thanks!

I could probably figure this out if I purchased Publisher, yet let me ask a simple question. Adobe's subscription pricing encourages me to look elsewhere. I already purchased Affinity Photo. I'm interested in getting Affinity Publisher. I see that it has a lot of fancy features, yet can it easily do the following? Can I configure a simple page layout such that the content automatically flows to as many pages as necessary as I input content. For the moment, let's consider styles for some simple headers & a standard paragraph style. If I'm just using these 2, as I type and fill up the current page, will it automatically flow into the next page, etc? I loved how Adobe FrameMaker worked & occasionally used Adobe InDesign.

I'm struggling a bit with properly exporting documents to PDF in Publisher. Situation is: I've created a calendar A3/300dpi with - of course - HiRes pictures for each page. This results in a PDF size for print of 500MB - fair enough. Now I'd like to generate a pdf as a web preview that preferably would have 1200px width with good quality pictures and a small footprint (less than 4MB filesize). But I can't find any setting that will allow proper resizing for the required output size - maintainig picture quality in smaller size. Of course I can reduce my dpi but this eventually results in extremely bad graphic quality. Seems like the only way is to print it to a pdf printer driver and change setting in the driver - sadly this brings other problems that are not acceptable. is this really the only way to get a smaller pdf size or is it just me that has not figured out how to do it properly? Cheers, Timo

Hi, I know it was already improve once, but it's not enough. The overflow red dot (or triangle for flowing to another frame) is only visible depending of the height of the frame: if we zoom out to create and adjust a new frame, it disappears. And the level of zoom needed for it to appear can be important! For example, if I need to flow ±325 footnotes on 250 pages, needing sometimes only 1 line at the bottom, I'll have to zoom in/zoom out 500 times! Second bug with this: it's impossible to find overflow in small frames if the zoom level doesn't allow enough space between the blue nodes of a frame to display the red dot. Looking for overflow with a zoom of 270% on a document isn't a good workflow. While in text mode those indicators should be displayed, and perhaps bigger when zooming out, so it's easier to click on them. They should be shown with other tools too, but smaller.

Hello, When moving a Publisher file from a PC to a mac, the images linked in documents are noted as 'missing' - I believe this is because the server path appears to be changing... On the mac the path includes the server 'share' name whereas on the PC the server share is noted as a drive letter (Y:\) instead. Firstly, is there a way around this within Publisher? Secondly, if not, is there a way to do bulk updates to linked images? I'd have expected that, when I update one image within a folder, the others with the same general path will also automatically update. However, currently I have to update the each individually. Am I missing something? All thoughts gratefully received! Edward

I would like to save an existing afpub file as a new file and then work on it to create a new document using much content from the original file. This seems to work fine until I export a pdf file and open that file in Google Chrome or Firefox. The tabs show part of the old filename, not the new. This is not a problem with Acrobat reader or Internet explorer since they identify tabs by the new filename. I am not including history. Am I missing something?

in InDesign, Quark and Publisher Vertical text algnment is a text frame attribute. In many cases it is not very usefull like in a linked text frames of a book because if, for any reason, text is changed, the vertical aligned text is moved to another frame where it is not any more, ant the text frame with veritcal alignment seting is now ocupied with some other text which must not be vertically aligned. For that reason, I suggest this attribute to become also a part of paragraph styles where we can decide (with check box) if text has to be vertically aligned within text frame or between two paragraphs and have settings for space before and after.

Hi Has anyone else had issues with PDF imports? As you'll see from the screenshot below that the whole fonts and type have somehow changed while importing PDFs to publisher? Is there a fix around this? It's a basic part of what publishing software needs as saves a lot of work while trying to publish a magazine.
