  2. Hallo zusammen, Ziel ist es eine Montageanleitung bestehend aus mehreren Baugruppen und Inhaltsverzeichnis zu erstellen. Jede Baugruppe ist eine mehrseitige Affinity Publisher Datei, diese habe ich in die Montageanleitung Gesamtdatei jeweils plaziert und damit verknüpft, so dass sich eine Änderung in der Baugruppe auch in der Montageanleitung wiederspiegelt. Bislang hatte ich dies in Indesign über die Buchdatei gelöst, eine ähnliche Funktion habe ich im Publisher nicht gefunden Im Publisher ging es soweit im Vergleich zu Indesign mühsamer, weil sich nicht mehrere Seiten auf einmal plazieren lassen, jede Seite muss einzeln auf das Gesamtdokument gezogen werden. Eine durchgängige Seitennummerierung habe ich im Gesamtdokument nur über eine Masterseite und Zuweisung auf alle Seiten hinbekommen. Seitennummern der Baugruppen lassen sich bei den plazierten Baugruppen nicht übergreifend fortsetzen? Formatierte Überschriften für das Inhaltsverzeichnis werden aus den plazierten Baugruppen auch nicht übernommen? Oder habe ich als Neuling noch was übersehen was den Ablauf wie bisher ermöglicht?   3. There's a mountain of people out there that would love to be able to convert Microsoft Publisher files to InDesign. Why don't you get the jump on them and a massive audience by making Affinity Publisher able to open or convert those .pub files on Mac. I think the only way to do it at the moment is to save the .pub files as PDFs them open them. Doing it this way nearly all of the subtle editing features are lost but at least you can copy and paste the basic elements. It would be great just to be able to open them in Publisher too.
  4. Hello, I am using Mac OS 10.15.2. I use Publisher Desktop version. When I want to place an image into a picture frame, the programme is crashed and quit. I tried it on another Macbook which is running Mac OS 10.14.5, same problem. The file size is very small only 1.6MB. Can anyone help to solve this problem? Thank you!
  5. So I feel like this is a setting somewhere, but I've lost track as to where I would locate it, and the research I've done in the last half hour hasn't helped me find it. So I have a document that, when I move objects off of the layout in Publisher and onto the artboard, they become invisible. They are still there, I just can't see them. However, in other documents, the objects on the artboard ARE visible. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to make the objects in the first document have objects visible on the artboard, but I REALLY need to be able to move object off of the layout and onto the artboard. Help me Affinity Forum; you're my only hope!
  6. Publisher 1.8.0.535 hangs when applying text styles and editing text styles - Body Text, 2 indented styles and Header 3 style in use. 3 different types of Master pages defined. Working in Windows 10, i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, preferred rendering via graphic card (NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti), approximately 30 pages document (so far) including pinned images. In Task Manager crash handler visible under Publisher entry.

  8. Windows 10 Home, Publisher 1.7.3.481. I’ve been playing around with the Transparency setting in the Paragraph Studio Decorations Section and can’t figure out what it does or how to use it. I set a Decoration to Fill, then gave the decoration a solid fill of colour (looks as I would expect), then tried modifying the Transparency setting but I can’t see much happening except for the Opacity. The same goes when I use a Gradient Fill. I can change the Opacity of the whole fill – that works okay – but the colour part of the dialog doesn’t seem to affect anything, no matter which colour picker I choose. The Help doesn’t really tell me much about what it’s supposed to do: “Transparency—click the swatch to display a pop-up panel. See the Gradient editing topic for more information on the settings available.” Can anyone explain this please? For instance, why would a Transparency setting let me choose a colour, and what should I expect it to do?
  9. Hi guys! I have a problem I cannot really understand. Hope that someone can explain how to make it better: I crated some pages with some text & some symbols. Normal work ... After finishing I created a pdf file which looks great on my screen and sent this pdf to a printing press. The result was bad. The symbols have a dark background. The thing I do not understand ist WHY? I used the same symbols before with InDesign and the result was ok and printable. Same symbols with publisher: not ok. Pls see the pics to get a better idea what I mean. The pen is an imported PNG-file. The plate is a clipboard copy from affinity photo. I talked to the printing press hotline. They told me that there are transparent parts included and responsible for my problem. So I rastered the images and sent a testfile to them: same result :-( Software was: Publisher 1.7.3.481 Any idea to solve the problem? Thanks a lot, Charlie
  10. How do I know which page is about what in the pages panel? Creating sections does not visualize them on the panel. If I have a long list of pages, how do I know which one is which in thumbnails unless I scroll all the way down?
  11. For fun, I want to create some game manuals for some of my Nintendo Switch games. I have experience using Illustrator software but not Publisher software. I'm very confused with the setup process. I am going to print on Letter Sized paper. The game manuals size will be roughly 4.25" x 3" but I guess the spread size (sorry for incorrect lingo) would be 8.5" x 3". Ideally, I would like to maximize the use of the paper. Thus, I want to have each page on the manual duplicated on one page of the letter size paper. I will be manually cutting the pages after print so I would want some kind of cut marks on the printed pages. Any advice on how I set this up? Do I start my document size at 8.5" x 11"? Or is it better to just print one copy of the manual on each sheet of letter paper, thus setting up my document as 8.5" x 3", even though I'll be printing on letter paper? I hope I was able to describe the situation so that it gives a clear indication of what I'm trying to do. Any suggestions or videos you can point me to, would be greatly appreciated.

  13. Hi, is it possible to add languages in OSX - Catalina for orthography correction. The background is, I need Indonesia (id_ID). To add a hyphenation was possible and it works. Thanks
  14. I can't understand why a fliped frame shows the filled text mirrored. Same happens with text on path. Take a path flip it, and the text you fill on that path is mirrored. I have no idea where i should use this for. I would prefer a flipped frame, that is an other "normal" frame after flipping. Thanks!
  15. I have a lot of book typesetting and test Affinity Publisher from time to time. I have always tried to publish a project. I have not yet been able to set a single book with Publisher. It is simply impossible to work professionally with Affinity Publisher (neither v1. 7. 3 nor Beta v1. 8. 0. 523). The orphan and widow settings are a joke and so not usable. Footnotes are completely missing. Book function not available. The speed is so slow that it is unacceptable for a modern program. All in all, in my opinion the software has no sense in this way. For a few flyers or business cards there are enough alternatives. But for book typesetting? Serif I think this will take few years befor Publisher can be named so.
  16. Hello forum, I hope, someone can help me out with setting up a Publisher document: The colours used are black (from cmyk) and one spot colour. By writing the PDF for printing, all texts (set to 100% black in Publisher) are being transformed to "rich black" containing cmyk colours. (Nooooo!) How can I prevent 100%-black-elements from being converted to some cmyk colour? I've found a suggestion to create a solid colour for 100% black. That solution is not working for me: I am using greyscale photos as well. So now the created PDF contains three colours. The first spot colour, the black from the greyscale photos and the spot colour I created to prevent texts converting to cmyk. That is very annoying, I need the PDF to be used only the black from cmyk and the one solid colour. Is there a soloution for this? Thank you guys for suggestions / help. Cheers
  17. I have opened a document from Publisher that is based on Master Pages. These have picture frames and Artistic Text on them. In Designer on iPad these items show up with little X symbols instead of the usual round corner and side handles. Also their layers have an orange line beside them. I assume this shows that they are Master Page elements and thus locked for editing. Is there an "Edit Detached" mode as there is in Publisher or also for instance in Photo for Mac (I don't have Designer for Mac yet)? Also, I can pull another layer onto a Master layer or a layer within it and it will go there. But after that this layer is completely locked. It can't be moved, deleted or pulled out of that Master layer. Albeit it not even having an orange line beside it. What's going on there?
  18. Hi. I have done some searching but I have not found an answer to the following question: How does one set "top align" as the default for a text frame, instead of "justify vertically"? I am currently working on my first project in Affinity Publisher and my text frames are set by default to vertical justification, which sometimes creates a frightening scene when adding text! My search for a field or setting to make top alignment the default has so far proved useless, so I must remember to set it for each frame, even frames of flow text. Thanks.

  20. For selecting multiple objects in Layers panel you can use Shift-click method: click on first layer, then Shift-click on the last one = all layers between them will be selected. There is a little bug if the Shift-clicked layer is a text (artistic or text frame) causing that the text layer's Show/hide toggle is switched. If you continue Shift-clicking on the text object, the fun continues too: - second Shift-click switches the toggle back, - every next Shift-click switches the toggles of all the layers in the selection! This bug is in Publisher and Photo too.

  22. Hi, Affinity Designer For iPad, at least in my setup, is not saving Publisher created files properly. If I make a file in Publisher Desktop and save to iCloud>customFolder, then "Open from Cloud" open file in Designer iPad, make a few edits, then save, it will not updated the file in iCloud>customFolder, but will instead write the updates to a new file of the same name in iCloud>Affinity Designer (default icloud app folder) I discovered this by accident and reproduced the error. 1. Create new multipage file in AfPublisher Desktop 2. Save in iCloud>WHATNOT folder 3. Close 4. “Open from iCloud” in AfDesigner iPad and make some edits across the pages, like this line. Save, close, save. close. 5. File in iCloud>WHATNOT is NOT updated. Went lookin elsewhere. 6. New updated version of the file in iCloud>Affinity Designer folder. Same name, but now has the afdesign extension where it showed no extension on original desktop save. 7. Opened in AfPublisher Desktop and added this test. Save and close. 8.Publisher Desktop did not move or make a new file. The file opened from iCloud>Affinity Designer was saved back to the same folder/ file. Expected behavior is that step 5 should not happen. Designer iPad was supposed to save in the same location in opened from. So yeah, this is one of the main ways I want to use Publisher and Designer together. Major bug as far as I'm concerned. (FWIW. 1st Gen iPad Pro 12.9, latest iOS and latest versions of Affinity Software across the board. 2018 Macbook Pro OS10.14 reproduced the bug. First found the bug with a Publisher file that started on a 10 year old Mac Pro running 10.13.)
  23. I have been designing books for kpd (kindle direct publishing) and every time I export to pdf for both my interior pages and my cover pages I am getting an error. I use the pdf for print option. I called head office to see what the problem was and they told me the file needed to be rasterized and there was layers on the pdf uploaded and that was why it didn't work. I also then tried to use the export option for print pdf (flatten) and it still didn't work. Can someone help me with this. I ended up having to export as a high quality jpg or png and then making that into the correct size for the pdf. It's funny because this just started happening. My first couple of times I uploaded (when I first downloaded publisher about 2 months ago) it worked but it's not anymore. Thanks.
  24. Hi, thanks for the good work on the Affinity products! Having spent some first moments on tuning in with Affinity publisher I'm missing a preflight checker. That's why I have the following feature request: User Stories: As an Affinity Publisher user I would like Affinity Publisher to check whether my document layout and the document content fulfills before-configured criteria in order to not export unwanted documents. I would like Affinity Publisher to provide sane default values/configurations for the below-mentioned checks. I would like Affinity Publisher to enable me to define and administrate (create,read,update,delete) several preflight profiles. Desired checks: The checks that I would like Affinity publisher to perform are: Image resolution: I would like to get notified which image does not match a document's defined resolution to prevent pixelated prints. Image colour space: I would like to get notified if an image potentially contains colours which might get lost when producing a exporting a document, e.g. for CMYK printing. Content-bleed-distance: I would like to get notified which contents are too close to a document's bleed, e.g. a background image that should expand to the "bleeding edge". Outdated links: I would like to get notified which objects displayed in Publisher do not represent the latest version of a referenced file. Missing external resources: I would like to get notified which external resources cannot be located by Affinity Publisher anymore. Text overflows: I would like to get notified which text boxes have an overflow issue. Background: My first project is going to be a simple poster. But I plan to recreate an old InDesign project using Affinity Publisher, a poetry anthology with several pictures etc. I definitely need the software to notify me if I accidentally messed up my layout, e.g. by adjusting a paragraph style etc. I hope you are already on it. Such a preflight check definitely is part of what I would consider a professional desktop publishing program.
