  1. In the main menu, the position of Text and Document in Publisher is reversed from Photo (and Publisher Photo Persona), which is very difficult to use. I want you to unify this. Personally, the layout of Publisher is intuitive and easy to use. In Illustrator and InDesign, the menu positions of Format and Object are reversed and difficult to use, but Adobe does not fix it at all. I believe Serif will fix it.
  2. There are two types of baseline grids: a) the document level baseline grid; b) text frame level baseline grids. When the user selects to “Use Baseline Grid” via the Baseline Grid Manager, that baseline grid is for the whole document but it can be overridden if the user decides to add a Baseline Grid via the “Use Baseline Grid” option in the Text Frame Panel. At the moment they are both called “Baseline Grid”. Would it be better if the document level baseline grid was called the Document Baseline Grid and the text frame baseline grid called the Local Baseline Grid (or Frame Baseline Grid)? That might help the user distinguish between the two. It would also make explaining them a bit easier. It’s not a big thing but I thought I’d ask the question.
  3. I don’t suppose this is going to often affect that many users but I discovered today that all the Affinity apps show nothing in the canvas/work area when the OS is in Safe Mode. All document content shows in the Layers panel but the work area just remains an infinite sea of grey. The attached is a screenshot from Designer but as I say it’s the same for all the Affinity apps including the current Publisher beta.
  4. I have been experiencing frequent crashes while using Affinity. I attach a text file with the output from my Mac crash information. It happened just now at exactly the same point while editing a document. crash_output_mac-mini_late_2012_mojave
  5. All my pictures and texts are not shown. Please help what to do now? Should I start from the very beginning? What is the reason for? It takes by the way very long until programme is starting. Thank you for your immediate help. Regards Preise_Arrangements_Tagung_Hotel_Lamm_2020_Lay2.afpub
  6. In the "help" file, keyboard commands are given as: To loosen spacing, press . option - right arrow To tighten spacing, press . option - left arrow For even looser spacing, press . option - command - right arrow For even tighter spacing, press . option - command - left arrow Nowhere, that I can see, is a description of how many 1/000ths of an EM is "looser/tighter spacing" and "even looser/tighter spacing" • What are the numerical increments of these vague semantic descriptions? • Are the basic increment units and the multiplier/divider modifier (command) user customizable in a measurements preference? • Do the kerning key commands produce the same increments when one selects a line, paragraph, column or story to track for fit? thanks, lettergothic
  7. Perhaps there could be a "Show Hyperlinks" option the same way there is a "Show Anchors" option in the Text>Interactive menu? There are an obnoxious amount of hyperlinks/anchors in the document I'm working on and having visual indicators like the anchors do for whether something's been hyperlinked already or not would be helpful.
  8. Win 7 Publisher build 1.7.3.481 I've seen built-in assets before, but now I have lost them. When I go to import them via the assets panel I have no idea where they reside. I'm not talking about my custom assets, which I can access but pre-built assets that I have seen in Publisher, Designer and Photo. Any idea where they are? Thanks, S.
  9. There is room for confusion on abbreviations for Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher. For the sake of clarity, what if we refer to them as APh and APu respectively? Then we know what we're talking about. I don't know if this is the correct forum for this. But I thought I would at least put forward the idea.
  10. Every time I want to make nice sharp corners in Publisher on a text box with a wide stroke it comes out rounded no matter what I press.....
  11. I am using Affinity to create card games or other cards, and with the way a number of programs and game websites handle file names I was wanting to find a way to force Publisher to add leading zeros so that the files would be listed in the same order regardless of which site or program is looking at them. I couldn't see any settings to let me do that. Current Setup: FileName_1.png, FileName_2.png, FileName_20.png, FileName_21.png, etc What I'd like: FileName_001.png, FileName_002.png,..., FileName_197.png, etc
  12. What if you had something like a "Parent Control". So if you had two Artboards and one had an element that is from the other. However, if you made an adjustment to the "Parent one" that had just a specific element. When you make an adjustment to the parent it automatically and real time adjusts in the same way the element in the "main" template. I hope this makes sense and is easy to understand. It's just an idea and wanted to share it. Thank you for having forums!!
  13. Affinity Publisher 1.7.3 on Mac OS 10.14.6 crashes, when changing document layout from facing pages to single. I have two master pages, A and B -> B is using A as master. Document has one page, with content, also outside document area. Publisher crashes everytime ticking Facing pages.
  14. Designer, Publisher, and Photo version 1.7.3 in Mac. Layer -> Geometry Menu is different form icon order. See attachement Image.
  15. Is it possible to apply a Decoration to a Character style instead of a Paragraph style ?
  16. Hello, I'd like to report a minor bug (APub 1.7.3.481) View > Studio > Fields General Information > Date & Time Tripple dot menu shows letter M before month number (M11 instead of 11 in the example) and same when the list gets expanded.
  17. I don’t know if this would be useful to anyone else so I’ll post it as a question first before putting in a request (if necessary). I have often thought it would be useful, when manually trying to get nicely-justified text, if the first word on the next line could be shown at the end of the previous line in a sort of ‘ghost’ form (see attached image where the word at the end of the line – in light orange – actually comes from the next line). This would make it a lot easier to see how much of the text was missing from the line so I could make a better judgement on what tracking/kerning/scale options I can use to get the text to fit nicely. For instance, in my example on line 3, a little bit of a tracking change could easily bring “male” back from the next line and remove the gap to the right. The user can then go down the text line by line getting rid of the space as necessary before justifying the text. Obviously this feature shouldn’t be on all of the time; maybe it could be a View option, or part of a Typography Persona with other such tools. Does anyone else think this is something that’s worth requesting, or is it just me? P.S. I don’t know what the proper term for this is, if there is one, so I called it “Ghosted Text Overshoot”. Googling for it won’t get you much of an answer.
  18. Hello Forum! I have moved the folder with the images for my photobook-project to a different location. Is there any way to tell the Publisher the new folder to find the images himself? In the Resource Manager I could only associate individually every single one of my 300 image. Thanks Nashorn
  19. Hello, I downloaded Photo en Designer from the MAS, but downloaded Publisher from you guys directly. I like to change that so I can get Publisher from the MAC as well regarding overview/updates. Is it possible to get a refund or is that some other way in which we can arrange this? Thank you. best, Remy
  20. I have pictures inserted into text with jump option to let text above and under picture. I want the picture to be centered on the page. When I set the anchor for a picture it stores vertical and horizontal position. Then il the text is modified the image moves to follow the new anchor position. That's great if a line of text is added or removed but if only a few words are added ou removed, the horizontal position of the picture isn't accurate any more... I should recenter it manually... that's really boring for me because I have a lot of such images. Is there anything I missed to let me fix the horizontal position of the image but not the vertical one ? Hope you could me the way...
  21. Stylus input on desktop (Mac) isn't nearly as smooth as on iPad, no matter what tablet drawing brand you use (I've tried a few). I've brought this up before, and it's kind of a biggie, considering there's a ton of illustrators, designers, photo retouchers/editors, using drawing/graphics tablets for their work. Some some reason this only happens with Affinity apps, and I haven't had this issue with any other graphics software. It's not a deal breaker per se, but it's very notable, and if you use a drawing tablet most of the day for your work, it can get quite frustrating (and could potentially put future users off of using the apps altogether). Furthermore, if you want to compete with the industry leaders (*cough Adobe), then you need to ensure that your stylus/pen input engine is pristine or at least on par with something like the industry standard, Photoshop. For some reason the pressure sensitivity has a tendency to spike or be slightly inaccurate and the lines aren't as smooth as they should be (often with small, but notable kinks and jitter). This is also very notable when using the Freehand Selection tool with a tablet. It's even more prevalent the more you zoom out of your canvas, causing weird jagged 90 and 45 degree angles in your lines/selections - almost as if the pen cursor is snapping to an invisible grid 90/45 degree grid. I usually do not work very zoomed in, so this can get very problematic throughout the work process, causing unwanted kinks and jagged lines which I've never experienced with any other drawing apps. To combat this, I've been using a third party plugin called Hej Stylus (hejstylus.com), and the pen input from my drawing tablet on desktop has been so much better within the Affinity apps while using it. It overrides the apps' default pen input in Affinity and replaces it with Hej Stylus's settings, which are much nicer and more accurate. When using the Hej Stylus app, I keep all the settings at an absolute minimum so that there isn't any additional smoothing, and all the app essentially does is override the default input. I don't necessarily want to use a third party app when working, but I'm doing it out of necessity. I think it's important to note that a desktop drawing tablet is a lot different from an iPad/Apple Pencil combo. The desktop styli/pens act differently and require different settings to perform the way that they should. Perhaps there's a way to get Eilert (the dev over at Hej Stylus) on board to help sort out the stylus input issues in Affinity apps. Sorry to keep going on about this, but as someone who uses a drawing tablet on desktop for ALL my work (as very many illustrators do), I really want to keep using Affinity without any tedious workarounds which takes extra time, and ultimately costs me and my clients money. Really hoping for a fix in the next update!! I've attached a screenshot here of the issue, and also attached the file: HejStylus Test.afphoto
  22. Hi - I've been tinkering with Publisher and want to leave the current program I use, but am stuck on what's probably a simple solution. I'm trying to fill a rectangle and want the fill to transition horizontally like in the attachment, but I can only get it to vertically, blue on left, red in middle, yellow on right. I'm sure there's something very simple I'm missing, but I can't figure it out. In the program I currently use, there's an "angle" adjust to rotate the fill to any orientation I want. Thanks!
  23. Affinity team, are there some publisher templates available??? affinity programs are so good, just inspired to develop my creativity. Some good training??? Thanks Gyan
  24. I have an automatic process where I pass a parameter into crystal reports, it will create a chart and print a pdf file. I do this every month for maybe a hundred different parameters. For a landscape piece of paper, the chart that is created takes up the top left quadrant and everything else is whitespace. I need to import just the image -- eliminating the white space. Indesign had a feature called "crop to bounding box". You got there by selecting the import options checkbox when placing the pdf file. This would do what I needed -- cropped the document to just the image and place it within the picture frame. I'm trying to see if publisher can do the same thing. When I place the image and double click on it, I get the page box in the context toolbar that has several choices -- one of which is trimbox another is cropbox. If I then go to edit document, I see the image with blue lines around it -- giving the impression the image would be cropped. But I have not been able to figure out how to actually crop it and then transfer the image into the picture frame. The approach I'm using seems like the "right" approach but I'm missing some details. Perhaps there is alternative way to do this within the file/place process -- similar to the crop to the bounding box approach. Thanks for any inut. Greg
  25. This may not be a bug, but a limitation of the software. I am an architect and use Designer for site analysis graphics, amongst many other uses. The graphics tend to be built up using many layers, each of which has a unique bit of data. I then bring the graphic into publisher and select which layers I want to show. Two things: I have found that if I copy an placed asset and double click to edit the layers, the layer changes will affect the copy and the original. So to avoid this, I place a fresh instance of the graphic for each view. This works fine. Until... If I make a change to the original designer file, the resource manager quite helpfully tells me to update the content in the publisher file. But... every instance of the placed graphic then gets reset to the same layer settings, so I have to go through the whole report, resetting all the layer structures. Is there a way of the placed asset remembering the layer settings? If not, can I please request this as a tweak to the next iteration of Publisher? Many thanks. Loving the software.
