  1. Hi, we have just purchased Affinity Designer and Photo to use with a sublimation printer Ricoh SG7100DN and a Sefa heat press. We have installed the Sawgrass colour profiles and used them to print out the photo to add to coasters. The issue is the blacks are printing red/brown and this happens when we print black ink work illustrations. Please can anyone help with the settings? Attached are the screenshots of document preferences and document setup for printing. The screenshots include the photos we are using. The last one is of the coasters showing the colour issues. Any help much appreciated as this is new venture for us. Thanks Jo & Andy
  2. what do you reckon is the best work flow to use lab colors in fine art work and print properly??? thanxxx
  3. what are the limitations with using LAB colors in AP and printing? thank you ! what is the correct LAB WORFLOW FOR PRINTING ?
  4. How do I access Soft Proofing, prior to sending a file for printing?
  5. Hello all, I'm working on Designer to create an advertising banner (to be printed). I'm exporting to CMYK PDF. The printing company requires "all spot colours to be converted to CMYK before creating the PDF". Does this have anything to do with the option "Honour spot colours"? You can find attached the presets I've used. Many thanks for your help. Nic
  6. I created greeting cards using Affinity Photo and although the help section of Affinity Photo 1.4.1 software states 'Gudes are non-printing, non-exporting lines that float over your page and assist with positioning of layer content' it seems that they indeed have exported to the PDFs although mainly only faintly and have printed out on some cards but not all of them. This has ruined 10 x 20 cards = 200 which has cost me. I am still awaiting a reply from Serif after using their 'Ticket' system since 12th April
  7. A printing service couldn't print my PDF which was created by AD, my settings were for print, I am trying A test with a PDX4 format as given as an option I have outlined/ curved the fonts. I went back to check in the document to see if I missed one font that did not get curved. To my surprise some of them when I select they seem not to have been curved as on the menu indicated, normally when they have been curved the menu selection is gray. I know when you select a line of text in the preview mode the whole line of text is selected and if I do it in the outline mode one letter at a time is selected, that's how I know my text is curved, I can print fine from my iMac. But a service center couldn't, they may not have a certain font so all text is curved. Any clues? Thanks
  8. When I create a rich black object (CMYK 65/65/65/100) in Designer, and print it to my b&w laser printer, I get not a solid black but a slightly dot-patterned one, as if the file is trying to separate itself. Which makes all black text look awful. I can get a solid black print if I set the document colour mode to Gray, but mostly what I want is crispy black text surrounded by colour objects if needed. Am I missing a step? Thanks—
  9. Hi, When trying to print an image and scaling it by a percentage the print preview box does not update the preview to show the new scale and how its fitting on the paper size. If I hit enter while still in the percentage dialogue box to try and update preview it automatically sends to printer instead of updating preview image. Frustrated as I now still have to go in to photoshop to print, the program i'm trying to move away from, defeating the purpose of using Affinity. Help would be appreciated. Thanks
  10. Hello, I need to send large vector images (9ft high x 4ft wide) to a printer. I export files as pdf, send them via dropbox, or sometimes hightail, and when he opens them the image seems to have the ground colour missing. And image looks transparent. If anyone has any ideas to help me overcome this issue, I would be most grateful. Many thanks, Tigerfeet
  11. When an image is masked in Affinity Photo and embedded in Affinity design, the masking disappears when exported or printed. In other words, objects that are supposed to be masked appear in printed or exported documents. Workaround: if the image is exported as a .png and placed in the Design document, the mask is preserved (I didn't test with other file formats that support transparency). (attached file to show difference, has both embedded file and images - toggle with layers) Hand Drafting.afdesign
  12. I'm using the Beta Version of AD 1.1.2. In order to update it I guess I have to purchase the latest release? If so, will it prevent drop shadows from rasterizing around text when exporting to a PDF? I've got the Fill Knocks Out Shadow box unchecked, but it still rasterizes the shadows. My App Store App shows that I need to update AD. But I can't from there. So, do I have to purchase the latest version? Thanks.
  13. I am a total newbie to Affinity Designer and am very impressed with its capabilities and potential. However, as of yesterday, I am starting to experience problems with printing and exporting. When I go to print to my Canon MP470, my Mac shows the "swirling pinwheel of death" for a very long time (5 or more minutes) and then a printer error finally appears. I tried to circumvent this problem by exporting the project as a pdf first and then printing later. Again, the pinwheel appeared and there was no indication or message as to whether the export was successful. Later, I found the pdf file in my documents, but when I clicked on it, it was blank. The really crazy thing is I printed and exported my last project (of similar size, scope, and complexity), with NO TROUBLES AT ALL. I used the same settings as last time, so I don't understand what is going on now. Any ideas of how to correct this? This project is due to a client within this next week and I have no way of sending it or printing it for her review. PLEASE HELP. BTW - I'm using the app bought from the Mac App Store if that is any help.
  14. 16-Bit would be so much better for printing. especially with gradients as a background. CMYK 16-Bit please. Thanks.
  15. I set up a mostly text-only doc in Designer for layout; used an actual paid-for HTF font, and it looks great on screen. When printing, or exporting to PDF, I get postscript hash text instead of the font/text. Font was manually activated using Font Explorer, and I've had zero issues with the font or printing the font using Illustrator in the past. Also tested the font using TextEdit, no issues there, either. Any idea? This is as close to a deal breaker as it gets for me; seems unwieldy/antiquated to convert text to curves to print or export.
  16. How can I print a help topic in Photo without the Table of Contents sidebar? I viewed the Help Files Tutorial video on your website and it shows an icon (printer) to collapse the Table of Contents. My version does not have this. It also shows the sidebar disappearing when the window is resized. Mine does not do this either! Has this feature been dropped?
  17. I am putting AD through the wringer here at work and I found that when printing on tabloid, something huge in comparison (132"x60") the printer, or AD could not communicate properly and therefore, when I chose scale to fit, it did not. It clipped the edges on both right and left sides. This is something basic that needs to work. I did, however, get to it print correctly, or close to scale to fit by using the percentages instead.
  18. In Affinity Photo (as in Photoshop), I find that my prints are darker than I want despite screen and printer profiling as well as having a correct profile for my paper/printer combination (Fotospeed PF Lustre 275 plus Epson R3000). Of course, I realise that my print will never be exactly equivalent to what I see on the screen due to the different types of light involved. However, in Photoshop I had a nice Action which was called "Lighten for Printing" which basically brightened up the printed image and reduced the gap between the brightness of screen and printed image. Happily this works equally well in Affinity by: 1 Layer - New Layer from Snapshot 2 Set mode to Screen 3 Set Layer Opacity to desired percentage for Lightening e.g. 10%, 20% or whatever. However whereas this is a one click running of a stored action in Photoshop, in Affinity by the above method it is a bit more trouble. Does Affinity have any equivalent to Actions or might this be in the pipeline for the future? By the way, I could not be more pleased with the switch from Photoshop to Affinity Photo. It is a pleasure to use an application which has been designed from the ground up for Photographers. Please would the whole Affinity team take a bow? Best wishes, Bail
  19. Hello folks, I've just discovered AP as an alternative for LR and PS. I'm excited, but obviously I need your help: the black/white layer (or grayscale, I don't know how it's labeled in English) doesn't apply for printing. It shows just fine on screen, but the preview in the printing interface is colored an so is the print on paper. Thanks for your help, Blumowski
  20. How can Affinity be truly competitive with Photoshop without being able to allow custom print sizes on any media size? An update to fix this shortcoming is sorely needed.
  21. I understand that future enhancements are planned to Photo printing capabilities, and that at present the OSX system print dialogue is the way to go. In the mean time is any guidance available on getting the best from the current print capability? In particular it would be good to understand how the ICC profile menu options work and how these might affect the print result or help with proofing and setting rendering intent. A short video tutorial on this aspect would be useful.
  22. Hi I'm new to Affinity Designer and so far love it. I'm reaching out for help / tutorial. I am working on a t-shirt design that is layers over an oval shape. When I send off my design to the printer it shows the oval shape on a white box. Is there a way to just save the shape without the background? I have included an image of what is happening. Thank you
  23. Please examine PaintShop Pro's printing function, it is by far the best printing function among photo editiors. Picasa's collage function also towers over Affinity Photo when it comes to printing. Why? Picasa and PaintShop Pro both allow users to place open images on a print layout page. The user can then determine the size and the position of each image on the page. Essentially PaintShop and Picasa are giving users basic layout capabilities. Basic layout tools create a one stop photo production process for many users. Users appreciate the functionality and the reduction in complexity. Affinity Photo is an excellent app, however, it really needs improvements in the printing area.
  24. Hey again, I have to deliver a GRACoL coated PDF for printing frequently. - Is that possible with Affinity? I didn´t see a matching profile. - Are there plans to add that profile (quite common in the US) - Is there any profile close by GRACoL (and I mean close enough to work as a professional printing solution)? Thanks in advance for any help, David
  25. I'm having a problem with printing in the last few betas. I'm printing to an Epson 3880, and the scaling has gone a bit nuts. A letter size document printing at 100%, prints huge, even with scale to fit, etc. set to 100%. To get it to print properly, I have to manually set the size to around 24%. And then the dialogue box doesn't save that setting, so I have to set it every time. It's also pretty frustrating to not be able to print a fully bleed. Even when I specify borderless printing, AD (and AP) put a small white edge on the print. Right now my workflow is this: build the document in AD/AP, export as PDF, open in photoshop and print. Nutty.
