  1. Hi everyone, I hope you guys are doing good. I recently purchased Affinity designer and make a shift from Inkscape because of the printing issues. I had printed 700 pamphlets and they all had colors issues for some reason. Which was a total waste and I had to make a change in software which I was wishing for a long time. The reason for posting on this forum is that I really want to know the best practices for printing in affinity designer. Now, I have a few questions, I started my affinity document with the Print (Press ready), 300 dpi and everything needed. When I imported an eps file from Inkscape just to take inspiration from it and redesign the pamphlet in affinity, I got a notification that the colors have been changed to RBG for that eps, did that change it for both the affinity document and the eps file I imported from Inkscape? Another question, I imported a png image to use it in my design. Since I am a newbie, I wanted to ask would that also cause issues in printing? I know I am not making sense but I would be thankful if you guys can help me out. Thank you!
Hello Affinity team, when I printed my poster exported in pdf in A3, I noticed color differences (yellow) in the text boxes of the title compared to the yellow background ... and sometimes boxes of images that overflow after export. Et pour le 2e document pareil, des débordements et des différences de boîtes après exportation... anotaru3_2019OK.afpub ANciens_DÉBOUCHÉS_PO2019.afpub
  3. Hi, I recently switched from Adobe Illustrator to AD and so far loving it. However, I need to export a design/file with gradient letters for printing, vector quality. Thing is that if I export it with gradient, the result gets blurry and no longer vector. If I do not use gradient all goes well and its vector sharp. I suppose as a newby to AD I have some settings for export wrong. What can I do to export to pdf for professional print and keep the gradient and keep the vector quality please? Thanks, Annie
  4. Greetings, Just installed a new printer (Epson XP55), calibrated it with a ColorMunki and results are very nice. However it is not clear to me how to establish a relation between the Affinity print profile and a device preset. For example I created several profiles in Affinity Photo with names like GLL_10_15, GL_13_18 and GLL_A4 (short for Glossy Landscape size 10*15, 13*18 and A4). I also made Device presets for the Epson X55 with exactly the same names and just before saving a new Affinity Photo print profile, did select that device preset, then saved the Affinity Photo print profile. I more or less expected that when I switch to a specific Affinity Photo print profile the corresponding Device preset would also be chosen, but this does not seem to be the case. I still have to click the Properties button right next to the printer selection listbox in the Affinity Photo Print window and choose the correct Device preset as well. Am I expecting too much? Am I overlooking something? Any thoughts? With kind regards, Aad Slingerland.
  5. Simple "print" function doesn't work. I have an HP laser printer accessible through local net. When I try to print a simple document, preview doesn't show my document and if I continue, printer starts, but I get a blank page.
  6. When I add a table of contents to any document, I can't export or print. Clicking on either Export... or Print... immediately freezes Publisher and I can do nothing at all. I have to kill this instance of Publisher using Task Manager and then re-launch it to do anything further. I can consistently recreate this any time I have a master page containing text frames. If there is no TOC, I can export and print as expected. As soon as I add a TOC those functions cease to operate. Steps to recreate: Create a new file using the default settings. Add a text frame to the master spread. On any page, insert a TOC by double-clicking in the text frame and selecting Text > Table of Contents > Insert Table of Contents Click File > Export... or File > Print... Publisher freezes completely This is not happening if I leave the master alone and just create a text frame on a page and put the TOC in that. I am on Windows 10 using beta 1.7.0.227. I haven't used any previous beta versions so I don't know if this used to work or not.
  7. I am used to printing in Photoshop CC in 6" x 4" and there is a facility to scale photos to the size of the paper but I can't find one in Affinity Photo. I have a 6x4 portrait image but when trying to print it will not fill the paper in length so how do I get it to the correct size for the paper? Screenshot 2018-12-15 at 17.34.15.tiff
  8. Hi, there. I would like advice from those who have already had professional experience with printing from Affinity. I'm working with the noise effect/filter on Affinity, on a file at 300dpi for a 1:1 print scale. What is the lowest value of the noise that I can use to be visible in print? And, vice versa, is there a very high value that disturbs printing? Thanks so much!
  9. Publisher still crashes when I try to print. When I send a print to the printer the progress bar nearly gets to the end and than publisher crashes. This doesn't happen all the time. It's just when I print with bleed and marks and full rastered and even than it sometimes works very well Sometimes it helps to reboot the Laptop. Sometimes I it helps to changes printing options to make it work... I think Publisher doesn't like my Sharp MFP 2630 ..... but/ because Publisher is the only program that crashes while printing. So I export with bleed and marks to PDF than print this from Acrobat .. but that's no fun...
  10. Well ! The title says it all, Affinity Publisher is missing/lacking of the essential Export Persona. On a workflow like mine where i use Affinity Photo to process everything pixel, Designer to Process everything Vector and make them all converge to Affinity Publisher for project finalization. So, 80% of my exports happens there because Affinity Publisher does it better when it have to print stuffs ! Please bring a shiny but powerful export persona to Publisher.
  11. Since I upgraded to OS Majove I have a printing problem which occurs in Photo, Designer and Publisher. Everything I print comes out brown, black and white text prints brown and white, colour graphics have a brown cast. Changing the IOC profile doesn't help. If I print from any application other than Affinity then the print is as it should be. Is this a Majove issue or an Affinity issue ?
  12. Hi, On the Print dialogue box we have FIT TYPE SCALE and FIT TO PRINTABLE, both terminologies self explanatory, that is until affinity invented something bizarre methinks. I have been experimenting and printing A4 Landscape facing pages designed to be read as A5 page booklet. Now when I use 12 and 14 point fonts and print out on FIT TO PRINTABLE, everything fits, except that my fonts are so much smaller than 12 point, more like 9 and 10 point, but it fits and the preview panel shows a good resemblance to the print and the on screen page. When I print on FIT TYPE SCALE, we have a TRUE output that is what I designed in affinity, IE 12 and 14 point print out at 12 and 14 point, Except that now it simply does not fit on the page and the preview does indeed have a red overlay indicating an error. The question I have is this: The latter printout does in no way reflect what I see on my design on screen. Mmmm........? This then appears to constitute reversal of wysiwyg, or a rather wysiNwyg. Thanks Chris
  13. There is inconsistency in the colour rendering between what is viewed on screen (2017 MacBook pro – calibrated) and some of the default pdf export options. I have tested this on the defaults for PRINT, WEB and FLATTEN. The document is set up as CMYK and the placed image is also set as CMYK – as are all the colours used in the document. The image enclosed here is a screen capture of the Publisher working document. WYO-AS-Screen Capture.pdf
  14. In the print dialog while specifying the N-up layout, when I indicate a value for skip, the preview does not show the skip unless I close the dialog and re-open it.
  15. I'm very new to the AD world and I could use a little help. I have created a business card design. How do I get that design to print like 8 on a sheet? So that if I were to send this design to a customer, it would be print ready? Right now it's just a single 3.5×2 design.
  16. How do I "flatten" all layers before exporting / PDF'ing so that I do not lose resolution? Problem: Sending 8.5x11 manuscript to Kindle (KDP) for print on demand (book). When using Export->PDF(print) some lines on diagram are not appearing in digital proof. When I use the Export->PDF(flatten) the resolution is too low / diagrams are pixelated. For example: PDF(print) is crisp PDF(flatten) is blurry
  17. It seems that Spot Colours in eps files are not supported... If I import/place an eps file with spot colours defined, these spot colours aren't imported into the swatches panel. If I select "Create Palette From Document > As Document Palette" I get a whole list of colours, none of them actually appear on the page. If you want to delete this palette, this doesn't work: Select Delete Palette from the Swatches Drop down menu, a pane appears asking you to confirm that you want to delete the palette, click "Yes" and thePalete is still there. The eps file seems to have been converted to a CMYK object because if you export the page as a pdf with "Honour Spot Colours" ticked it outputs the spot colours as cmyk. So you can't print separations from the pdf file.
  18. Now working with bleed ist much better but: by printing with scale or shrink to printable the (activated) bleed still isn't printed. AP doesn't care for the bleed while scaling the document when I scale it manually to a lower percentage I can see the bleed and it will be printed it would be verry helpfull to get marks on the edges to cut the paper in exports now the the bleed is showen when activated for export, but here also the marks are missing We are on a good way! :-) Roland
  19. I understand that the print layout is in the Print dialog because it relates to printing, and that the Layout could be different each time, but I also find it clumsy. I would like to create Layouts that I could save and use over, or use to make another Layout by just changing a few parameters. I would also like to see a more graphic interface. The print preview in this dialog is ridiculously small, and almost useless. The old Page Plus did this much better. Although I specify a Paper Size: “Letter”, the Width and Height shown in this dialog are GIGANTIC!. (see the attached) Since I already created a left margin on the page, I shouldn’t have to do it here on the Print dialog, but I must to make it work.
  20. I now foud out how to enable bleed (it would be nicer to configure it while creating a document than have the need to enter the document setting dialogue). I don't like the way it's been shown when actice in view but I think that's because I'm used to the way InDesign does it. But I can't actually print or export with bleed also I switched it on to export or print with bleed. Roland
  21. Hi, I just start with Affinity photo and was mainly only using Lightroom previously while I plan to quit it to Capture one+Affinity with the aim to mainly finalise my work on printings much more than online gallery. That's where I get some fever since I really don't master the printing process and until now mainly used experimentations until reaching an honnest result but I really want from now on to do it more "professionnaly" and mastering the things more than letting it to destiny and luck dispite it always keep a part of mystery that I appreciate and open new persepectives. A good mistake is always a source of inspiration... Where I feel the need to share those existential stuffs is the tip and tricks I were using on lightroom doesn't work anymore with affinity and as some people know here, Studio pro doens't get along well with Affinity. I'm searching a solution either include in Affinity or a dedicated software to print and give me all power on function of the printer and color managment while neutralising all parameters include in the driver set up box. I don't understand why after spending that much of time adujsting and tuning a picture, printers managment is that much chaotic in amateur world whith possibility to set the same ICC profile in different places and creating mess while you choosed in both places the same profil or choosing mat or bright function in driver window instead to have one window that controls all at once. It drive me crazy and lost to spend that much of time when you already sweat quite a lot on your editing and post processing. Please, HELP!!! Sorry for this approximative english
  22. Like many people, I've struggled with PPI/DPI and how they affect print quality. The discussions I've seen here are usually actually about PPI and include the advice, "You don't need to worry about DPI unless you're talking about printing," and then they don't mention printing again. But printing is exactly what I'm interested in. I think I have a grasp of the fact that AP says DPI when it means PPI, and that I don't need to worry about what DPI AP says my image has until I'm ready to print. But when I am ready to print, I don't see anyplace to specify what DPI I'd like in my print. It's not in the Canon printer driver and I don't see it in AP's print dialogue. When I was using Adobe, I saved every image I worked with at 300 (DPI? PPI?) and then when I printed I didn't even think about it. But all the discussions here (and the video tutorial Understanding DPI) make me feel really sure that I have absolutely no idea what DPI I'm printing at. (My prints look good, but I'd still like to be clear about this; maybe they could be better.) So how does one properly print at 300 DPI?
  23. Simple request would be that the rasterise feature actually acknowledge the bleed associated to the document. Currently it takes the trim size but for print related work it would be far more functional to be able to place elements into the bleed and then when rasterising have the finished article have the bleed included. All the best, Mark
  24. Using 1.6.4.104, Windows10, Epson SureColor P800, Xrite 1iDisplay calibrated 4k monitor I'm seeing very strange color shifts and a much lighter image printing using the app for color management. I'm choosing the correct Epson provided profile. When I let the printer control color it is fine. Is this a known issue? Any workarounds?
  25. Hi - I’m a print photographer, primarily, and have just discovered Affinity Photo for the iPad Pro. I’m considering my workflow process and would like to move away from editing on the desktop as the Mac pencil is just so amazing and easy to work with. Does anyone have experience editing and then printing strictly off of Affinity Photo tablet? Curious of the quality (are the prints true to color/expectation?) and ease of sizing, etc. Any thoughts or stories of success / failures would be extremely appreciated. Thanks, Trxr
