  1. I have been using the Affinity Photo & Affinity Designer betas in preference to the previous retail versions. Now that the latest retail versions have been released, I have deleted the betas but ~/Library/Containers still contains the com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner.beta & com.seriflabs.affinityphoto.beta folders with the usual Application Support, Preferences, etc. stuff. I know some of that like the caches & aliases no longer serve any purpose & can be deleted, but I am wondering if some of the *.propcol & *.dat files might be usable as replacements for the corresponding items in the retail updates. The reason I ask is I am hoping this would (for example) set the retail macros to be the same as in the beta. That would be useful because I added a few macros to the beta that were not added to the previous retail version.
  2. Hello, yesterday I bought and installed Affinity Photo and I'm quite happy with it... However, now I looked into the preferences and there I read (in German, of course ;-)): "No compatible GPU" (I attached a screenshot) That would be a surprise for me, because the Radeon Pro 580 is the fastest in the iMac-lineup, with the exception of the iMac Pro, of course. Is that normal? Will it be fixed with future updates? Greetings from Hamburg, Sören P.S.: macOS High Sierra, 10.13.3
  3. Hope somebody has a solution. if I try to open the menu item "Preferences" AP is crashing. Everytime it happens. Have AP via the Apple store. Latest update is november 2nd 2017 Anybody who has same problem. Someone a solution??? Kindest regards, jefvandejumenas
  4. Any advice on the best settings for performance in preferences on Photo - memory usage etc? I've had a quick search but can't find anything on here. I have 64bit Windows system with 16gb ram, Intel i5-2500K 3.30ghz, with Nvidia GTX GeForce 1050 ti. Current settings are attached. My problem has been generally sluggish performance, waiting for effects to play catch-up with Retina Rendering at Highest Quality and a far too pixelated image when it's set to low quality.
  5. In the preference window it shows 32GB as allocatable RAM though I only have 16GB installed. Would be better if the program limited this option to the maximum actually available
  6. I just got the PC version of Affinity Photo yesterday and I wondered if I could change the Styles panel for the Filters panel which I use more? (Presently, Adjustments Layers Effects Style Stock) I also don't use Stock. I'm comparing to Photoshop where panel tabs can be rearranged by dragging. Also, how long should the program take to load? If mine is slower, can I adjust preferences in any way? Does having an image re-load from previous session slow it down?
  7. Hi, I currently work on some document with blue background colour. In that case, the document margins are truly invisible. It could be nice to have a way to set the colour of margin (and guide) lines somewhere in the Preferences panel. Thanks.
  8. Hi there, Just wondering why I always get a beige/creme artboard and not a clear white artboard? I cannot find anywhere in the settings or preferences to change this and i am sure other people have probably had the same issue. Could someone please advise me how to correct this please? I am running a Windows 10 PC 64bit Thank you,
  9. Hello, guys at Serif. For example, every time I resize a photo, I'd rather use Lanczos 3 non separable. But Affinity defaults to bilinear every time I do Ctrl+Alt+I. This is frustrating and tedious. I cited this case as an example, only. There are many things in which the program could memorize the user's way of being. Make the program smarter. The default for Artistic text tool is Arial 12 align left. Always and always and always... This is horrible. The program need to memorize my last use of each tool! What I do in Photoshop in a few clicks, or in a single click, I need to do in Affinity with many clicks. This is frustrating, irritating, tedious ... The Edit / Preferences menu has few options. This is very poor in options for the user. There could be many more options like default font preference when using the artistic text tool tool, choose my preferred export preset, etc, etc, etc. There is a need to extend user preference options at least 10 times. I already posted this on another topic, but no one paid attention! Another thing I've been reporting for a long time, the error of copying / pasting effects giving different values to the target. How long this will continue? Please, Affinity team, stop making deaf ears. Pay attention to the needs of your customers, at least this time.
  10. I have both Affinity Photo and Designer on my Mac desktop and laptop. I know that there is no sync for preferences and panels, but I have no problem to transfer them manually. So, my question is, in which folder do Affinity Photo and Designer keep their preferences and panel info on a Mac? I guess I could just copy them from one computer to another? Thanks!
  11. Is there a way to import preferences and tools settings from 1.5.5 to beta, so that I can compare from the same starting point?
  12. HI, I noticed that there were no plugins anymore. I use NIK and some macphun plugins. Checking my settings in the preferences/plugins I saw nothing was set anymore. But when I clicked the fields they could be selected but nothing was in them not even the front slash????? I tried alt+cmd for throwing away preferences but this doesn't work. Any ideas? Cheers Marco
  13. Leading on from another feature request (path persistence), here is a feature requests feature request :). Is it maybe an idea to create ONE sticky thread in which we start collecting the things that could do with persistence in use, between tabs or even between sessions? I have seen quite a few feature requests that ask for data to be preserved between operations, tabs and sessions so I figured it would make sense to maybe gather them under one topic and maybe make it sticky. That parks it all in one place so it's easier to gather and act on it where that makes sense in the scheme of things. The hope is that increased efficiency could help other projects such as DAM and DTP progress (cheeky nudge  ).. Cheers!
  14. The black and nearly black backgrounds of Affinity Photo windows, toolbars and palettes entirely distract me and I'm sure Serif knows that reading white type reversed out of black background is a strain. How do I change the UI preferences to display white or light backgrounds?
  15. I see a few feature requests for exports to default to the documents folder when saving, however I'd like for exports to have their own file path and operations (such as changing that path) be relative to that path. Example: I'm working on logo.afdesign in my Work/ folder. I want the exports to go to Site/html/assets/ folder. As of now, I'm constantly having to drill through several directories every time I want to add an export or make changes. Woe betide if I'm switching between documents in different Work/ folders exporting to yet other Site/ folders.
  16. The export options for TIFF files always remember the last setting, rather than defaulting to the document color mode. I.e. if the last export was CMYK, the default the next time will be CMYK, even if the document is RGB, and the other way round. This is dangerous since it makes it easy to perform unintended color space conversions on export. Especially beginners who may not know about RGB and CMYK or just trust the default export settings might be in for a nasty surprise. Ideally, the export settings would check if the color format in the export settings is set to the same thing as the same as the document color format and in that case offer the document color format of the next document the next time. If the user changes the setting to something else than the document color format, it would offer that specific setting the next time, regardless of document format. That way it won't get in the way of, say, someone trying to manually export 10 RGB documents as CMYK, but it also wouldn't catch someone exporting an RGB file to RGB TIFF by surprise if their last export was a CMYK document to CMYK TIFF.
  17. I'm curious as to how each of the items affects the applications' performance. There's no explanation in the help files. RAM Usage Limit: I notice this can be dragged up to ~64 GB (which is more than 5 times how much RAM my Mac has...); does lessening the amount keep the application running smoothly... or do I need to open it up to the maximum amt of RAM I have so that it doesn't get "bottled up"? Disk Usage Warning Limit: This one's a bit confusing--does the application warn you if there's less than the set amount when you try to save a document? Again, the max is set at 64GB, even though my hard drive has 40 GB of free space at the moment. Undo Limit: I presume that the lower I set this, the less RAM the application will need Dither gradients: faster performance checked, or unchecked? Use precise clipping: same question Use hardware OpenGL: same User only integrated GPU: same
  18. There is a discussion on PPI vs DPI in the Questions and Feedback section. After discussion and consideration, I'd like to make an official feature request. In the User Interface section of the Preferences in both Designer and Photo, I request that you include a checkbox to change the default DPI setting of documents to PPI. I understand a portion of your staff believe DPI is an appropriate choice, so it could be set to DPI by default, and every one who feels strongly that it should read PPI could have a customization option to change their user experience within the software. I feel that's a good compromise, considering everyone who understands what the field is for would understand that it would typically make no difference to anyone's workflow, and it would appease each party that has a preference to one acronym or the other. Thank you for your consideration, I appreciate your time.
  19. It would be great if I could use my scroll wheel to increase or decrease my brush size,on a 3 button mouse as I cannot find this option in user preferences.
  20. 1) I deleted the category Default form the styles panel. Then selected an object and clicked Add Style from Selection. I am sure that this should have been grayed out, since no category existed in which to add the Style. AD crashed with Object Exception error. Sadly, I have not been able to recreate this issue :( 2) With an object selected I can right click and choose Create Style, but the in the Styles panel menu Add Style from Selection is grayed out - why? Are the two options not the same? If they are the same, then it is confusing that one is called Create and the other Add.
  21. In Preferences, Shortcuts, the text on the individual items that can be reassigned has been changed from light gray on a dark gray background to black text on a dark gray background. This is NOT an improvement! As should have been obvious by simply comparing the text on the top of the panel to that within the lower part. Please! Stop making it harder for some of us to use this app.
  22. I am new to Affinity and am having problems changing the font in Preferences for the User Interface. Could you please tell me how to make the user interface fonts and or icons larger on a MacBook Pro.
  23. I wanted to display the Preferences dialog, so I pressed Ctrl+, as I would do in AD on Windows. I was surprised to find that nothing happened, but I then discovered that there is no default shortcut for 'Edit > Preferences...' in this build.
  24. I may have posted this before, excuse me if I have, but this would be great to see in an upcoming beta. It would be awesome to have either/or app- and document-wide settings for Noise. It's tedious to remember to change the Noise setting in new colors, and in some of the studio fly-out Color panels (off the Context tool bar) the values are not displayed numerically or with a text input field, so one has to eyeball it or go to the Color studio panel - which is often hidden on my laptop screen to maximize real estate... (#1stworldproblems) It would be great to have a Noise setting somewhere in the General section of the Preferences (Tools or General?) Additionally it would be great to have a setting available in the New Document panel, for setting the Color Noise value in a new document, overriding the Default value set in the Preferences panel. It would also be great to be able to change ALL of the Noise values of color swatches via the Color studio panel or the Document Setup panel. Additionally, it might be interesting to consider whether the amount of noise applied is modulated by the app based on output resolution. Meaning in smaller or lower res files, one might desire less or more noise, since it may be exaggerated or minimized by the change in size. Not sure how this would be implemented, but I know visually it would be a beneficial thing to control based on output requirements.... Thanks for all the amazing work you do and for your consideration. :)
  25. Reseting an Affinity app to factory defaults is often suggested as a cure for various problems. While that may work, it is a very destructive step that wipes out all user customizations for keyboard shortcuts, the layout of the Tools palette & the main menu bar, fills, styles, brushes, etc. & returns just about everything to the new user defaults values. Some of these things, for example keyboard shortcuts & Styles categories, can be exported/saved prior to the reset & imported/loaded back into the app afterwards, which can reduce the considerable amount of time & effort sometimes needed to return the app to the previous highly customized state. However, there does not seem to be a comprehensive list of all the things that could be exported or saved for this purpose, or any mention of which (if any) should not be imported or loaded back into the app to reintroduce some problem the reset was meant to cure. For many of them, exporting/importing each category individually would be required since there is no global 'export/import all categories' feature in their menus, so even with a comprehensive checklist this can be a tedious & error prone process. Any guidance on this would be appreciated, as well as if or when less destructive alternatives would suffice. One example of this is I have noticed than on a Mac, some problems can be resolved by trashing the ~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/Data/Library/Caches files or the equivalent path for the other Affinity apps (including the betas & possibly for the Photos extensions as well). Note: for anyone wishing to try this, it should be done only while the app is not running. In particular, this seems to resolve unusually long launch times & some other sluggish behaviors, but only when the contents of the Caches subfolders have become large, at least more than 1 or 2 MB.
