  1. Hi, I am testing performance of affinity designer (MAC) vs photoshop CS6 (MAC). I've got a PSD file with multiple folders, layers etc. The file is 750x2000 pixels, so it's quite big. I'm exporting in photoshop png-24 without transparency - exported file has 78kb. After exporting in affinity designer in both png options (24,8) I've got these sizes: 192kb and 119kb respectfully. So at the moment the most important question is how to export png file so at least the size is similar to Photoshop.
  2. Hey Guys, First and foremost, incredible job with Affinity. I've been a professional web designer for over 10 years and have tried everything under the sun to replace Photoshop. You guys have finally done it, almost! Exporting for Web I can't get Affinity to export PNG or JPG file sizes as small in file size as Photoshop can, or looking as good either. It's my only concern, since as a web designer file sizes are a huge priority. When I export the same JPG through Affinity / Photoshop at 85 Quality, the file size comes out smaller from Affinity, but looks worse. When I try to match the quality with the one exported from Photoshop, the file sizes ends up much larger. I can run files through TinyJPG/PNG but that's an extra step to my workflow. Currently, this is a blocking issue for me to continue using the program. Font Sizes When re-sizing 'type elements' specifically, you actually have to let go of Shift for them to scale proportionately. Seems odd, since you have to hold shift to re-size everything else. Perspective In photoshop I can distort the perspective of an element, which I do quite a lot when preparing mockups in devices. I noticed it in the tutorial video but can't find where to do it. Do I need to switch to Affinity Photo in order to do that? That's all for now, I'll add more as I run into it. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Best, Geoff
  3. Hello, As i see you are continuously improoving AFD ,i would like to propose very usefull feature for export formats using transparency like PNG and PSD. A smooth edges option for removing jagged edges would be much appreciated. It would be some kind of automated feather along borders. Tell me what you think about it please. Regards, Alex.
  4. Hello All... New member here. Experienced PS user... I am sturggling with creating a web graphic with a transparent background. I feel it's something simple I am just missing but I've searched other threads and most address issues in AD but this is in AP. What am I missing? The export doesn't have a "save for web" or a transparency checkbox. When I select the image and choose "save selection without background" in the export I still get a white box when placed on a web page. I'm used to this being a simple PNG save in PS, so I'm not seeing it. Thanks for any help.
  5. Hey, I'm pretty new to Affinity and so far i love it! The only problem I'm facing is after exporting my design to PNG for Web use, the picture becomes very blurry when uploaded to any website really. How do i fix this? ~Thanks. :)
  6. Yes, I've noted the following line in the Feature Roadmap for Affinity Photo: -Export persona - preview with compression and palette optimisation But since we don't know exactly what you are working on, I'd like to offer some guidance: 1) Please use Photoshop's "Save for Web" as a feature guide. I use just about every single feature there when optimizing graphics for the web. Transparency, Number of Colors, Interlaced, Various Dithers, Multiple Color palettes (Adaptive, Selective, Perceptual), Web Snap, and Lossy (for GIF) are all very serious features. 2) Please use a Quantizer for PNG optimization: http://pngnq.sourceforge.net I use TinyPNG all the time to convert my 24-bit PNGs with Transparency into super tiny PNG-8's! https://tinypng.com Build something like that into Affinity Photo and you've truly one-upped Photoshop! 3) Consider hiding or graying-out the "Resample" popup in the File>Export sheet whenever the dimensions are LOCKED. When UNLOCKED and the user changes the dimensions, only they would you need to resample. But when the dimensions are locked, no resampling is needed and so that resample popup only serves to confuse the user. 4) If you want to add a compression preview in File>Export it may be best to put that as a checkbox option, unchecked by default to ensure maximum performance. Thanks.
  7. Hi there, I'm trying to import a PNG logo with a transparent background into Affinity Photo Beta. I go to File > Open and select the image, but when it opens the image's transparency is replaced by a black background. I'm hoping this is a relatively simple change of options unless I'm doing something really stupid! Thanks
  8. Hi. In Photoshop I was able to apply a script so that when I save my file as a .psd it would also save a copy as a .png file. Is there a way to do this for Affinity Photo?
  9. I'm not sure why this is so poorly supported across design apps - even Photoshop (at least on the versions I own) doesn't have it and the only straightforward game in town seems to be Fireworks. These days, most of my exported files for web site themes are 8 Bit PNG with alpha transparency. it just makes sense. And it's quite a wrench to the workflow to have to jump out of AD just to make these conversions and manual optimisations in another app. There is quite an efficiency hot as it's not just a matter of running a conversion script, each file has to be individually reoptimized from 24 bit with transparency down to 8 bit, selecting the colours etc Please could this one be a priority? T
  10. Is it possible to export each layer to individual PNG and how?
  11. Hey lovely Serif, Would it be possible to integrate a smarter export option for PNG's that are sliced or otherwise exported. The default export produces some pretty hefty PNG file sizes, and at the moment I'm running them through TinyPNG.com after export. Savings are significant. Typically around 60-75% smaller files. So 200kb retina images are being going down to 50kb with no visibly discernible differences (Although optimisation has taken place) (Examples attached). So there is some loss going on, but it is nothing like the sort we used to see with JPEG compression. I know gulp.js also has the option to integrate a similar compression into its workflow, but either way, I'd like to think that there would be a tick box in the export settings to enable this sort of file size crushing by default from the Affinity apps. Thanks for your time. Stephen
  12. Hello! Very nice application. But... subject. Fireworks layers support will be in future or not?
  13. Hello, I have this logo designed in AD and I need to export it in png with transparencies (irregular shape and an 80% transparent filling of some parts of logo). How to achieve this in AD? I just tried using the 'export' function but it exports the whole raster (including white background)... I guess I should set the background to transparent (it is white at the moment), but I can not find the damn checkbox to do so :) Please help! :) Thanks in advance, Greg Ok, ok I have found the checkbox. Document Setup -> Transparent Background. I swear I have been searching for if for like 10 minutes before posting this help request. Ofcourse I have found it 10 seconds after posting... :) Cheers, Greg
  14. Dumb question cancelled. Should wait till I wake up before posting :-) But it does raise the issue of the contrast of controls and accessibility for people with impaired vision (and those who are just tired). Much of the design is 'cool' black and grey. I do not have particularly poor vision, but I find this lack of contrast a real pain. This is a screen grab of a drawing tab. I have to click on the X to close it. There is a grey X in the top left, but it could be a lot clearer. The Prefs/UI Gamma setting does not increase contrast enough. Are there plans to replace the grey with white and generally increase visual accessibility of the whole app? Cheers. RPJ
  15. Hello, I have created an image with transparency and would like to export as png while maintaining the set transparency. Now when I export it removes all transparency. Is this possible? Is it a bug that the transparency is removed? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Jeremy
