  1. I'm just moving over from Photoshop Elements, so I've got Culture Shock, but I'm enjoying the process. I convert photographs to PNGs - a historic hangover from when I had trouble with support for CR2s. I notice that the PNGs produced by Affinity are noticeably darker than the PSE output, and darker than the CR2 originals, though I realise I can adjust everything. More importantly, the files are about 4 times the size - 95MB as opposed to 23MB. (These are created from a 26MB CR2 file.) I can see the case for storing the files uncompressed, to speed up processing, so is that what's happening, or have I missed something? I'm running Affinity Photo 1.7.1 on a MacBook Pro, reading CR2 files created by a Canon EOS 700D.
  2. Hello, I found an issue when exporting a PNG file. If you set transparency to a stroke, that specific stroke will be thinner when exported to PNG. To reproduce this, try the following: - create two rectangles with "rectangle" tool - set the interior of the rectangles to white - set the stroke of the rectangles to green for example - put the rectangles one above the other as in attached image (one of them will serve as a "control" rectangle) - for the top rectangle set the stroke opacity to 50% (only for the stroke) - select both rectangles, go to - File - Export - PNG - Selection without background - the result should be as in the attached image From what I experienced, this issue appear only if you export "Selection without background" and only if that specific stroke is on the exterior of the artwork. I use Affinity Designer 1.7.1.404 on Windows 10.
  3. Hi, i recently purchased Affinity Photo and i'm a user of Premiere Pro. I use a lot of text with transparent background and i´m having an issue when placing this file on Premiere. On the Corner Issue Example file attached is how it looks and i can't work with the file like that. I also tried with a Photoshop which i used before but not now and the result is as it should be, shown in second attach. So how can i manage this for Premiere to recognize the png file, what and where can i change this settings? I'm using latest version of Affinity Photo Thanks in advance Shivali And this are the png settings which i haven't changed from original
  4. Hi, I'm having a problem similar to the one described in the thread here. I want to export my line art which is a vector (see screenshot ‘Before import’) from Affinity Designer to Affinity Photo in order to colour. I export in a PNG format, import into Affinity Photo, zoom in and that's when I notice the lines look really jagged (see screenshot ‘After export with colour’). I understand that the vector gets turned into pixels during export, but I want to make the lines look smoother. Before using Affinity Designer and Photo, I was working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. My workflow back then was to export the vector from Illustrator as a PNG 'without background' to Photoshop. In Affinity Designer I have tried different PNG preset settings (see screenshot ‘Export settings’) including PNG-24 Bilinear, Bicubic, Lanczos 3 (separable), Lanczos 3 (non-separable) all ‘without background’ selected. But all resulted in the same jagged line. I tried the solutions mentioned in the thread above. However when I click ‘Force pixel alignment’ the quality in Affinity Photo doesn’t seem to change. Would someone on the support team know if I need to do something different in Affinity Designer so that when I import the vector in Affinity Photo there’s not a noticeable difference?
  5. Hi Guys, I have been trying to export png's of icons for a website. These are pretty small but there's a lot of them as they are used in CSS sprites. Normally I would export these as a gif or png8, but your settings only allow export to be dithered and that gives me some real quality issues. I'd love it if we could have an option not to dither the png8 and gif exports. I've attached the following files so you can see the problem: - site-product-icons11-OLD - The original png8 file out of Photoshop, undithered - I have just added 1 icon to the bottom of this file site-product-icons11a128 - 128 export (dithered) out of Affinity Photo - you can see the problem in spots of colour on say the LR logo 900px down and the steel logo at 450px down site-product-icons11a256 - as above but more colours to see if that was the issue site-product-icons11 - png24 export not showing these issues (no surprise really), but is almost 3x the file size. Thanks
  6. When copying in png images the image is appearing with a black background. To resolve this I have to save the image and then import it as an image. It would be great if you could just copy in a PNG from the web or another source. Thanks Clyall90
  7. Is there a way to remove white background like in Photoshop to make an image with transparency and then save it as PNG?
  8. Whenever I import a PNG file, colors are all off... at first I thought it had something to do with my color settings, but then I realized that if I imported the same image on JPG the colors were right.
  9. Hey there. I am new to the designer. I have "Lines" between (snapped or not snapped) objects. I've drawn some triangles and snapped them together. In the edtior there are lines between them - like an outline. But there is no outline. If I Export it to PNG all the lines are already there. I've made a screenshot. Maybe someone can give a hint. Already tried to Position them by Hand etc. no Change checked in the color-box for outline etc. Nothing. Zoomed to max. objects fit.
  10. Hi guys, i have to report crashes not only in AP as i described in my other topic, but also in AD. When exporting to PNG and trying to save to Camera Roll the app crashes constantly. I have to report also a bug with “Import from Cloud”. When you navigate to a specific folder on the cloud service (webdav protocol) you cannot perform a Search because you won’t get any result or filtering in your list of files.
  11. I have a png with a transparent background that I’ve imported into Designer on my iPad Pro. Original dpi was 150. I need to upload it to an online vendor that only accepts 300 dpi files. (I know.) Changing the dpi in Designer only seems to work if I uncheck Embed Metadata in the Export screen — but when I do that and save as png, the resulting image has a white background. If I leave the setting checked, the background is transparent but the dpi remains listed as 150. Is it possible to change the dpi of the saved png to 300, but retain the transparency? edit: I’ve discovered that I can make this work if I first create a 300 dpi document and then use Place Image to add my image. I can then turn off embed metadata and retain transparency. Still not sure why I can’t start with an existing png, though.
  12. Hi, A hiccup in trying to use Affinity Photo in my pdf-to-EPUB processing workflow, in which all my text is being exported from my layout app as transparent background pdfs, to be converted in AP to png and resized. Every text box that has a feathered edge, is getting a hard outline at the outermost extent of the feather - ie where the feather is transparent. This same effect doesn't appear to occur in Photoshop. It occurs in AP with either a batch processor, or opening a single file. Attached is a comparison of the same file opened in both Photoshop and AP, with the same dpi and size settings for rendering. (the photoshop file has a layer of white added behind, to show up the lack of artefact. A white feathered box gets a white bounding outline. Any thoughts? (edit - genuine textbox from the book, not a statement towards the any reader of this ) thanks.
  13. Hi! When trying to export a simple image, AD shuts down immediatly. I going nuts. Any ideas? Thank you
  14. Well i'm a bit surprised that some issues are coming back to the surface but maybe it's on my side ! 1- Have noticed my exports get blurry every time : tried to design in A3 then export in A4 then A5 size (PNG: is my mostly used - TIFF or PDF) which was working like a charm in previous release but now they get blurry 2- Went to my Affinity Preferences and now i see : Display (OpenGL, OpenGL Basic, Software) .... Never touched this before so i would like to know if changing one of this would fix the issue and what each one is or supposed to do. 3- What is Dither gradient ? Would it help ? in what conditions ? Just remember that the blurriness disappeared with one of the updates (can't recall which one) but now it's back ! So, Your help and support would be appreciated helping me fix this and get back on the road.
  15. After inserting PNG graphics into an Affinity Photo file, when I come to printing it's leaving a grey background. I have tried to save the graphic as a Jpeg and it prints fine. I could really do with the graphics in PNG to retain the transparent background. Please see image attached. Thank you
  16. Hey guys, whenever I export in PNG-24 AD turns pixels into transparent pixels although I don't use transparency in AD itself. I have attached a picture of the exported PNG-24 file and the design in AD. I want to export in PNG format without transparency - how is this possible? I hope you guys can help Cheers!
  17. Hello! I wanted to back-check with the community if its just a problem on my end. While exporting a page with a transparent polka-dot pattern (25% transparency) I noticed that the transparency doesnt work once exported into a PDF file. Funnily enough, when I export the page as a PNG the transparency works... IN-APP DESIGN: EXPORT OPTIONS: PDF-FINAL RESULT:
  18. Hi all, I am currently in the process of making my first computer game as part of my university degree. I am using Affinity Designer for PC in conjunction with Unreal Engine 4 (UE4), and I am having trouble with quality loss when exporting the .afdesign file to PNG, and thus importing the PNG file into Unreal Engine 4. I originally created my main character, "blob", as 64x64 pixels, as this is generally the size of a tile in UE4. However when exporting it to PNG the loss of quality is huge, as seen on the left of the below image. I'm also having the same issue with the tiles and tilesets I've been working on. To compare, I created my "blob" in 4000x4000 pixels, and scaled it down to 0.02% in UE4 (as seen on the right) and it looks exactly how I want it to look. UE4 doesn't seem to support SVG, and JPEG doesn't support transparency. Can anybody advise me on how to export the 64x64 file to PNG without rasterizing and losing the quality? The same goes for my tiles and tileset (the tiles are currently 128x128 but I might need them to be smaller). Many thanks
  19. In reference to a thread about a deal-breaker-problem that still persists in over a year see: As >|< pointed out in this thread, "the current Affinity PNG exporter does not support variable opacity in an indexed-pallet image (commonly called PNG-8), hence the jagged edges." A professional webdesigner uses PNG's quite often. If possible SVG, but PNG is still (and probably will remain) needed for specific artwork that is both small in file size and has professional transparent edges. As most of the webdesigners, that use Adobe software, know that since the CC version their new PNG exporter is quite brilliant. It exports clean, sharp and small PNG-files in 8-bit with (near) perfect transparency. In my opinion, every webdesigner living and creating websites in 2018 and beyond, cannot have jagged edges OR large filesizes. And with Affinity you have to choose between these two. The only workaround is extra software, or something like TinyPNG, through which you have to pull/batch every exported PNG-24 file in order to recreate what Adobe can do with one click. The fact that you cannot export optimal PNG-8 files directly from the Affinity software, is a show-stopper. I think for every(!) webdesigner that wants to build good websites. The workaround is no viable option - it's too complicated, slow and (very) inefficient. There are quite some options in software, both offline and online that offer the same (or sometimes even slightly better) PNG-24 » PNG-8 conversions, so the technology is there. But for me personally, i cannot use any Affinity product now because the end result (the export) is un-usable and needs an extra conversion in order to be used on the web. This problem should be fixed as soon as possible, because i think that the effective (and professional) user-base of Affinity might double. Why? Because now only fotographers of graphic-designers can use Affinity in day-to-day use. I don't believe that way more webdesigners will join Affinity, IF the PNG exporter gets improved to a professional standard. Hope to see this get implemented » then i most probably will start using Affinity!
  20. Hello, Most of the time, I have to quit Affinity to be able to make an other export. Otherwise, sometime, as seen on the joint picture, when overwriting an already exported file, it seams that Affinity considers the file as a directory and fails to export the new file inside the old one. "xxx/infrastructures_routieres.png/infrastructures_routieres.png" Thanks for this awesome product, Regards,
  21. Hello! Please, make me a hint, when we can expect PNG8 with full alpha? I found myself less working with AD because of lack of this final step that I regularly needs for app and web development, and to keep small file size in AE projects. I searched on forum, and see that this is often requested in last 2 years already. AD have magnificent Export persona mode, that is great for automatisation, and really need this feature.
  22. The title already tells most of the problem I have. When I export my file to JPEG or PDF, it's quality get very low. I've already tried to switch the resample option to Bicubic or Lanczos, which didn't give me that much of a better result unfortunately. However, when I export the file to PDF, the quality is stunning. I've also tried to change the document settings from 72dpi to 300dpi, which also didn't give me any other results. Could anyone please help me out here? Below I've added an attachment to show you guys what I end up with. Thanks in advance!
  23. How can i export a PNG at specific pixel size?? I have a file that is 2400 x 50976 pixel big. I export that file as 2400 x 50976 pixel big PNG. I open that PNG. And it's somehow only 1542 x 32767 pixel small...
  24. I've waited so long for Affinity Publisher to arrive and was delighted to receive an email saying that the beta was now available to download. I played with it most of yesterday afternoon with some text from my books and was just a bit disappointed that the program - at present - is not more geared towards the self-publishing industry for authors; for example, no ability to save epub or mobi files. The self-publishing industry is HUGE and it wouldn't take much to tweak your program to suit it. One big issue for me is that the text and character styles aren't as intuitive as they could be. Character and paragraph tabs similar to those in Indesign would be much simpler for text-based authors, such as myself. Having said that, I also illustrate my books and design those illustrations in AD - Drawplus before that. I added a png image to my text, but was disappointed that the text didn't fit very nicely around the image - despite the left, top, right and bottom adjustment feature. I managed to get this to look a little neater when I created a shape as a background for the image (last one on the page). However, when the text is justified, as it usually is in books, it looks awful. I've attached an AP file showing 4 different ways I tried to adapt the text - none of which are 'pretty'. Yesterday, I clicked on the node tool and a thick blue outline with nodes appeared around the image - I was hoping that I could use these nodes to tweak where the text wrapped around the image, but the nodes weren't responsive. This is not a huge issue for me as more often than not I don't wrap text around my images, but it would be a nice feature. Unfortunately, today, I'm unable to get these nodes to show up again so I can't attach an image of what happened. Please make this simpler Loving the interface and program other than the above. 25. I am trying to add a vignette to a png. I can make it black and white but however I apply the vignette nothing happens to the image. Is it because its a png?
