  1. Here's a blog post I just wrote about using Darktable with Affinity Photo and the Google Nik Collection. http://bit.ly/2iaNDSS Happy Holidays! Stephen:)
  2. I have the plugin AKVIS Nature art on Seriff Photoplus X8. Can this be added to the Plugins on Affinity and if so How
  3. I don't know if this should be here or in Feature Requests, so by all means move it to whichever is correct. In any case, I was wondering if there were any plans to add support for plugins in Affinity Designer (as has been done in Photo). If so, will you focus on existing Adobe Illustrator plugins or on plugins designed for Designer? I also have a question concerning the nature of plugin support (both as it is now and in the future), which is why I elected to post this under "Questions" rather than requests. Are there (or will there someday be) plugins designed for Affinity, or is the feature meant specifically for supporting Adobe's plugins? Is it possible to create plugins specifically for use in Affinity Photo?
  4. I'd love to see support for Peltmade's Flatten Pro and Multifill Plugins. Those two would go a long way toward making this a go-to program for comic book and illustration work. Thanks!
  5. In the "Help" window I see among the Key features that Affinity Designer has support for plugins. Can I plugin the Google Nik collection? And if I can, how do I do it? Rgs /Ernie W
  6. I would find it quite helpful to create a list of working plugins! I do not use that much plugins but I'd appreciate if the NIK plugins would work. As supported I get the following ones listed: - NIK Analog Efex Pro 2 (2.0.12.10, x64 v1.2.11) - NIK Color Efex Pro 2 (4.3.24.10, x64 v1.2.11) If all user add their plugins we'll soon have a very useful list! ;) Cheers, Tom
  7. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/28190-google-viveza-2-doesnt-work-with-affinity-photo/ , the third post in that thread makes reference to something I am seeing with several plugins: Specifically, that the image displayed in the plugin screen, if the original was taken in Portrait mode, will display landscape, i.e the image is rotated 90 degrees clockwise. This happens with the PhotoWiz plugins I have and also with Topaz (all I have), NeatImage, all constituents of the free NIK collection, MV's Wire Worm and AKVIS Nature Art. I think this was not a problem in the initial beta release, though I may not have had opportunity to test all my available plugins with a Portrait format image. Jeff Running latest available version of beta, 1.5.0.38
  8. Will we be able to use the (now) free Nik plugin collection from Google in Affinity Photo? It would be great as I always work with those ones. I tried re-installing them but Photoshop is the only supported platform it seems. This would have a dramatic impact in my choice of switching from PS to Affinity!
  9. For Gimp, there's a cool script available that is called Shellout: http://registry.gimp.org/node/24977 This python script will call an external program, providing the active layer or a new from visible layer to this external program via a temp file. Once the external program is completed, it should save/overwrite the original temp file which gets pulled back into gimp. This is extremely useful to use standalone versions of plugins that don't work correctly via the Photoshop Plugin Import in Affinity Photo, for example, some plugins of the Nik Collection. It would be really useful to have such a "Send to standalone and Back after editing"-function, especially if you have some programs that aren't available as plugins but want to keep your workflow efficient.
  10. I have copied my plugins from photoshop to the Affinity plugins folder and they display and will allow me to use them. But the photo is displaying upside down!
  11. I have installed Topaz and Akvis plugins via the Affinity preferences screen. I know they'll only work at the moment in 8 bit but the individual plugins are greyed out if I try to use them on a tiff file. They're ok with jpegs but all my raw conversions are saved as tiffs. Also portrait images from my I-Pad open in the plugins as landscape; i.e. they are rotated by 90 degrees. All of the above work perfectly in Photoplus X8
  12. I have been following the plugin installation instructions and I can see the plugins from NIKEFEX that I want to use when I use the filters menu chain, but non of them will open. The preferences - photoshop plugins- window was used to set the directories, and the use use unknown plugins box is checked. Is this a bug or a function of Beta release?
  13. Just downloaded the beta and I was wondering what plugins will work? Also will any Photoshop Extensions work?
  14. Will Nik plugins work with AP? I tried to use the plugin feature, within AP but doesn't seem to recognize it. Also, I'm using version 1.5 Beta!
  15. Firstly, a apologize for my multitude of questions; although I do have some experience with using Affinity and applications like it, there are some aspects of which I have virtually no knowledge. I was wondering if someone could tell me about how Affinity works with Plugins and/or how scripting might work if it's added in the future. What are some examples of what one could do with scripting? How big a deal is it to make a plugin for a particular feature that isn't in Affinity? It says in the preferences that plugins have something to do with Photoshop; could someone please explain how this works? And finally: is there anything else that I should know about these features that I haven't thought of?
  16. [starting a new topic because searching the forums produces scattered, incomplete, and contradictory notions of installation and use information.] Are there, somewhere, in one place, clear instructions on installing and troubleshooting plugins in AP? Specifically interested in NIK Collection and their use in AP (is there some version that works and some that don't? Incompatible OS versions? Mac Win?) The implication seems to be that they work in AP, but they don't seem to work for me (Do they work only from a certain folder? Do some obscure permissions need to be set? What is and what are the implications of a "plugin support folder" versus a "plugin search folder?" What is and what are the implications of "global support?") If I can get them to work, is there a non-destructive way (reversible/editable) to use NIK tools in AP? As for myself, I have downloaded the free version of NIK Collection from Google and am running a Mac on El Cap (10.11.5) with AP (v 1.4.2) purchased via the Apple App Store. Thanks
  17. I have recently installed Nik Software plug ins on Affinity. I have tried to use Silver Efex to turn a color image to B+W, and the tweaks I have made on Silver Efex have worked perfectly well - exactly the same as they did on Aperture, and on Photoshop Elements when the edited image in all its b+w glory appeared in each of these programs. However, when I try and leave Silver Efex to go back to Affinity when i have finished doing my alterations, the image on Affinity is exactly the same as when I started. There is no B+W image. So where is it, and how do i save it. I assume I should do this from Affinity as there is no way I can do so from the base at the top of the page with the Nik Software. Its probably something very simple, but HELP please!
  18. I have found a few free plugin filters for Apple Photos but when I try to set them up in Affinity Photo they do not work. I have gone into Preferences and done the necessary set up to get them to work but they do not seem to work with Affinity Photo. One set of these freebies is by On1 Effects and the other one is by Macphun Creative Kit. Any suggestions to how to get them to work and if they don't any idea when they will? I really like using Affinity Photo but in my opinion the most important update feature they need to work on is getting photoshop plugins to work with Affinity Photo. Once they do this Affinity Photo will truly be a serious competitor for Photoshop.
  19. Is Affinity Photo's plugin support solely based on how well the devs can crack each individual plugin's code and then it be deemed supported? Sorry if I am not making sense. Would there ever be a time when plugin companies would write them for Affinity Photo or is the future of AP plugin support based on how well we COPY PS plugin architecture? Being that Affinity Photo is about to blow up with supporters in masses, won't they come a knockin? How does this all work for the benefit of AP's users coming onboard?
  20. Photoshop Plugins: Most do not work or perform wrong function: I went to the plugins section in the preferences section. I added PS CS6 program under plugin search folder. I added \ as the path by selecting my mac hard drive. Am I missing something?
  21. I am making a determined effort to wean myself off of Adobe Creative Cloud, (Lightroom & Photoshop) and replace them with Affinity Photo but I am worried about losing the ability to use Photoshop plugins, (Nik & Topaz Collections) if I unsubscribe from Adobe Creative Cloud. Am I right to assume that if I do unsubscribe from CC it will not affect my usage of the plugins in Affinity Photo? Many thanks for advice. Andrew-Bede
  22. Google has just announced that their Google Nik Collection composed of seven Photoshop plug-ins is now free for everyone. Click here for more details. You can download them from here. Currently Analog Efex Pro 2, Color Efex Pro 4, Silver Efex Pro 2 work with Affinity Photo. HDR Efex Pro 2 only works partially.
  23. I have successfully installed the NIK Collection of plugins into Affinity Photo. However, when I click on them I get a dialogue box saying "the plugin can only be applied to the active layer. If you would like to apply the plugin to a separate layer, please check to make sure your application supports the NIK Selective Tool and that you are not working in a limited functionality mode such as the Quick Fix mode of Photoshop Elements." (Substitute the name of the plugin with the word "plugin" above.) Can anyone please tell me what I need to do to get NIK Collection to work? Thanks. Chuck
