  1. Hello everyone, like I posted in my previous topic, I really appreciate the pixel-view in Affinity Designer and wanted to explore the Pixel Persona a bit more. I wanted to experiment a bit and see how far I could push it. I really enjoy automotive design and well.. pretty much everything about cars, so I thought I'd do a bit of a virtual tuning thing with the Pixel Persona and see how it goes. I looked through the tools and messed around for a while before I set off with the project, and pretty much figured, that AD has all the basic tools needed for photo manipulation, aside of it's powerful set of vector tools. I drive a '98 Nissan Micra K11 preface, so I thought I'd give that model a bit of a touch up. Now please bare in mind, that the last time I gave a car the "photoshop-chop" treatment was probably about 10 years ago, so I'm a bit rusty in that regard, but I am really happy with the final result: The full resolution is 1080p, just click on the picture to view it. Here's the original image: So do I think Affinity Designer is not only a great vector software, but also a killer photo manipulation software? Absolutely. Obviously something like a mesh-distortion tool would make the process much easier and will open up a lot more possibilities, but even as it currently is, you can still manipulate the software and cleverly use it's functionality to do some complex pixel work. As in my previous project, I recorded the entire process, but I have to edit the video first. I wanted to share with you my result, so I'll post the video as a comment, when it's ready (I'll get right on it). Thanks for having a look!
  2. Hello guys! This is Jixie Bubblegum, a quick character I made last night using Designer and my Texturizer Pro brushes. Hope you dig!
  3. In here I will be sharing my paintings done with Affinity Designer default brushes. There is something of Affinity Designer that just feels at home for me. Especially the way you can organize your groups, edit your brushes etc. At some point in time I will probably experiment with my own brushes, but for now the default brushes will surface for my artistic needs. This is just me on a journey learning to paint landscapes digitally.
  4. In Affinity Designer's Pixel Persona, I want to switch back and forth rapidly between the paintbrush and the eraser. Is there any other way to do this, other than pressing the keyboard shortcut E for eraser, and the letter B, TWICE, for the paintbrush? I'm looking for a single key toggle that can take me back and forth rapidly between these two tools. Is there such a thing? Is there any way to determine which tool the keyboard shortcut B selects first? It's very frustrating having to press B twice (first world problems, I know), because it seems like an unnecessary movement and sometimes I forget I've only pressed it once and end up using the pixel tool.
  5. I did an illustration with lovely brushes mad from Paolo. You can see how I created a character design with brushes, in the Pixel Persona, in a speed painting video on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1JwiL5H5OE I did german explanations, sorry for that. Best Greetings DAD
  6. Hello Affinity users, i´m new here and don´t really good in English :D but I hope you can help me. I make some things with the pixel persona and I want to export this, but when I do it it´s so blurry. I try to export its in 1920x1080px and in all export formats  -modicaner
  7. I have downloaded the trial version of Affinity Designer on my mac and seriously considering to replace Adobe Illustrator with AD. So far I have done some comic inking illustrations, a couple logo design and some coloured illustrations and I find the app amazing. I find Affinity Design the best App so far for inking purpose in vector. I have tried inking in illustrator, corel painter, Manga studio, photoshop. For raster I like Manga Studio but for vector AD is definitely the best. Though I miss some features of Adobe illustrator for example Auto trace, eye dropper tool, 3D extrude, blend tool to mention. Still Affinity Designer's price is so attractive that it lures an illustrator/designer like me living in India. I hope Affinity will come up with alternatives for premiere pro and after effects also. Thanks
  8. Hi, When I use selection brush tool with subtrack it first act like add. When I use add and than subtrack it act right. It's not a big problem. MM
  9. Hi, I've created a wash effect using a pixel brush and now want to change the hue or colour balance. When I select the respective (sub) layer, I cannot see the colour or swatch change to tell me the colour and I can't find a way to change it. I can change it using an adjstment layer. Is that the only way? I'm fully aware it's a new program for me so I might be understanding how Affinity handles colours etc, but I would have expected the colour of whatever I select (pixel or vector persona) to correspond and changeable in the colour tab? Also, If I change the swatches too quick I'll get a unexpected error/crash. It disappears before I can get the number of the crash report though. Any ideas.
  10. When I make the switch to Pixel Persona and use a raster brush no mark is made and the program freezes up and then crashes.
  11. hello, i seem to be having issues with the marquee tool in the pixel persona layout. i have a large object i would like to take a sample from. so i have gone into pixel persona layout and drawn a rectangular marquee over the area i would like to use. however when i try to copy, i do not get any response. pasting simply pastes the last layer i copied earlier. is there a trick to this? thank you.
  12. I'm trying to do some shading in my illustration, but the brush has gone all pixellated at the edges. This happened to me once before and in playing around I managed to get it back to normal (smooth edges), but it just seemed to happen - I don't know how I fixed it. Take a look at the image below, and please please let me know how I can get back to painting normally again!
  13. Hello, I'm new to the Affinity software suite, and have been attempting to learn to use Affinity Designer. I recently discovered that some of the brushes in the Pixel Persona mode, are not working with my Dell S2240T touch-screen monitor. While I have not tested all of the brushes in the Pixel Persona mode, below I have included a small list of brushes that do not appear to be working... Effects 4 Effects 2 Effects 1 Spray 2 Spray 3 Spray 4 Grunge 6 It is worth noting that these brushes work fine when I use my trackpad, and appear to work fine when I tap the touch-screen, however, tapping and dragging, does not work. Specs; MacBook Pro running OS X 10.11 with a 21.5" Dell S2240T touch-screen monitor. Any insight into this problem would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards, KidGalaxy
  14. Hi all, Is it just me or... is there no way to enable pen pressure opacity to pixel brushes? Slightly baffled if it isn't supported so I suspect it's me being thick :)
  15. Hello everyone, When I export via cmd + s or export persona: PNG files are always blurry / seems to be bad quality rendering. I'm exporting tiny png s with sizes 20x50 to 100x70 etc. @300dbi I also tried creating a file at the same size as export. Same result. I used the pixel Persona to get 100% pixelperfection, colores are blurred , textured too. see attachement Any suggestions on it? I can't really use the tool until this works, I do not changed any settings.
  16. For example, say I'm using a brush tool in Vector Persona and then switch over to Pixel Persona to access the "eraser" tool. When I return to VP, my brush tool is no longer selected, and the Move tool is. Leaving a Persona seems to result in the application thinking I want to access the Move tool when I return. I can't seem to find any sort of option to change this, so it's likely it's unchangeable behavior... but plenty of options have slipped past my detection so far, so I could definitely be mistaken! 8^)
  17. Here's another dog, seems I'm on a roll... personal work this time. Thought I'd try out an all airbrush style paint piece using mostly pixel persona and the spray paint brushes in Designer. I had tried this guy a few years back in photoshop, this turned out much better. ;) Maybe I just suck at photoshop painting... :) Some discoveries made with this piece has got me thinking of some personal wish list items for Designer as it pertains particularly for painting: - rotate canvas - an option or toggle to hide the brush cursor while painting (some of the brush cursors outline previews are a little distracting and are in the way while painting) - smooth stroke or lazy mouse feature - quick flip canvas (horz and vert) to check composition - OPTION > COMMAND > SPACE BAR and COMMAND > SPACE BAR for zooming (it's enabled and works as expected in draw persona but not in pixel persona, never did get an explanation on why this is... - this is a biggie hence the UPPERCASE letters!) :) The navigator palette just doesn't cut it for quick workflow. as an aside... - would love to see a "global" noise effect ability like in Affinity Photo (live filter) to be able to globally cover entire artwork with noise from the top most layer...
  18. When using AD in Pixel Persona with Wacom tablet (an old Grapphire 3), the Erase brush tool dismisses each time the tablet pen loses and and get again the recognition signal from the tablet pad. In that case, Erase brush becomes no longer active. Instead previous tool is selected (be it either Marquee or Paint Brush). In other words, when erasing a pixel image continously, everything is OK, but when you lift the tablet pen too high over the pad and then lower it again, previous tool gets activated.
  19. hi, Affinity Designer Team. Im Madder Merlin. I am not good at English, but will participate in the forum using the Google Translate. I want to assign a shortcut to the paint brush and eraser of pixel persona. Paint function of Affinity Designer is great, but I believe that convenience is missing. And, since want to do more instantly brush size and brush opacity, shortcut want also to these functions. This is one of the idea, I think it a great to be able to adjust the drag while pressing a particular key. Please consideration. thanks for reading.
  20. So, a potential client contacted me about doing some motion graphic work for a conference. They want to go with this true detective type of look. If your not familiar with the show check out the title screen found here Anyway, I probably will end up doing this in apple motion if I get the job. I decided, before I commit to the project, let me try and execute the look or get some what close to it in a still frame sample first. This what I am going to present to the client since I do not have a lot of sample work that reflects this sort of style. Most of the stuff I have done isn't anything I want to show anyone because they are dry, old, corporate project from the tech sector that really limits my creativity! Anyway, this would be a fun and challenging project if i get it! I created this entire image using nothing but the pixel persona tools. I am really curious to see what tools are available for image manipulation in Affinity Photo because i can pull off a lot of techniques that I would do in Adobe Photoshop in Affinity Designer already!
