  1. Hello, question from yet another Photoshop user doing a conversion to Affinity Photo. First, love the product as it will only get better with each new update. Photo does open PSD files, as well as .tiffs created in Photoshop; however, it seems to only open files as flattened objects, totally disregarding any type of layer which may have been set up in Photoshop. Is this statement correct or is there a way for Affinity Photo to recognize layers created in Photoshop? I have zillions of files created in Photoshop, having started graphic design in the mid-80s. I'm not enthused about exporting layers from Photoshop...I would rather do like Elvis did and shoot the software like he shot televisions. I'm proud to be using AP now and don't want to look back. Only hoping.
  2. One of the most useful keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop (imo) is the CMD to move (CMD + arrows nudges 1pixel, with SHIFT modifier to nude 10pixels). In Affinity Photo the CMD key is completely unused when working normally with a document, looking in the options for shortcuts there doesn't seem to be much in terms of advanced shortcuts. I know AP is not PS, but moving things around are quite useful and not using the normal modifier keys, instead leaving them dead, seems like very bad UX. Am I missing something, is CMD actually used for anything and/or can I get the desired behavior?
  3. Hey guys, just want to gather some experiences from people who might be using this software as a substitute for Photoshop on the go digital painting wise...and an idea on if it's worth the investment or not. since the release of the iPad Pro version i have been constantly looking through sites and forums for peoples experiences and the usual outcome is critical praise along the lines of a great substitute for PS but usually based off of the perspective from someone who used it with editing photos and not so much with illustration & painting. Basically my Cintiq is down and much of my work has fallen onto the iPad pro i'm not too interested in Astropad and i do have Mediabang and Procreate but both are always lacking many functions i love from using Photoshop i love concept art, texturing, sprite-work and animating so i'd absolutely love anyone else's input on personal experiences before i make the jump. Thanks! :)
  4. I've been using Photoshop for almost 10 years now and I've built quite a muscle memory for the default PS keyboard shortcuts. It's quite a productivity killer and really convoluted to not have these shortcuts on the iPad. Having mostly similar keyboard shortcuts as Photoshop is one of the strong point I thing of the desktop AP app. I use affinity photo for iPad mostly using my smartkeyboard case, so I've got my keyboard handy for most of the time. This makes for a really intuitive workflow for existing PS or affinity on desktop users; using keyboard and Apple pencil and touch to navigate around. Another thing is screen real estate, when you can hide a certain amount of on-screen controll (things you can controll using keyboard shortcuts), you have more productive space for your canvas. These I deem essential: X ;to switch foreground and background colors using the brush [ and ] ; to increase or decrease brush size numeric keys to manipulate opacity cmd + j to dupilicate layers alt + click to sample (for using brush or clone brush etc.) regular letter keys to switch tools (e.g. B for brush, V for move tool) Nice to have: Cmd +i to invert Cmd + alt ; easily control the hardness and size of your brush (this one would work really well on the iPad) Alt + delete/backspace ; fill with foreground (cmd to fill with background) A key or shortcut to toggle fullscreen
  5. Hello, I have Affinity Design and am thinking of purchasing Affinity Photo, but I have one question. Is Affinity Photo compatible with other programs like adobes photoshop? I need to edit documents on photoshop for school, but was wondering if I could do my work in Affinity Photo at home, then send the doc as a PNG, or JPEG etc to the school which has photoshop? thanks :)
  6. Hello All! I'm new to Affinity photo and I was wondering if LUTs that other photographers make in Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom are compatible in Affinity. If the LUTs are ".cube" they should work right? Also, do presets from Lightroom transfer over to Affinity very well? Thanks
  7. I've been doing fine art printing through Photoshop for almost 20 years, currently on the Epson 11880. Before I consider switching over from Photoshop, I need to make sure there is a set workflow in place, not just a work around... Are there support videos or tutorials showing the printer workflow for the Epson, in particular the 11880? Thanks, Alan

  9. Hello everyone, I shoot in RAW only, accumulate a lot of images each time I'm out, now with Adobe Bridge I can open any specific folder containing dozens of RAW photos and can visually view all the photos in that file. Is there such a program with Affinity Photo where I can open a folder containing RAW photos and view them all - or am I required to open each RAW photo one at a time in order to view that one photo? Thanks, Lad
  10. With the extortion experts Adobe screwing users of Creative (Accounting) Cloud with its revised pricing 20 to 50 percent, never has there been a greater need for a competitive alternative. Affinity comes nearest but shows no enthusiasm for closing the gap. When will it address the problems around plugins on Mac, or support Photoshop Actions, or have a file organiser, or make headway into reducing its gigantic file sizes? Solve these and you could have the world beating a path to your doorstep.
  11. At the moment it looks like the magic wand selection tool doesn't generate partially selected pixels. This results in the horrible jagged / harsh edges as below when attempting to isolate an element. Photoshop on the other hand supports anti-aliasing which gives a smooth transition from fully opaque to fully transparent. This feature is an absolute must in my opinion, especially for quickly cutting out well defined objects in an image / removing the background. Feathering or smoothing the jagged edges (another extra step that shouldn't be necessary) just doesn't give as good of an effect.
  12. Hey everyone. Hoping someone can help me out. I'm using Affinity Photo to import some PSD files I paid for from a stock site. There are text layers, shape layers, etc. When I open the files though, all the layers are pixel layers that are not editable in any way. It's as if they're flattened. I was under the impression that Affinity photo can open PSD's and work with them natively. I'm not fully sure how a pixel layer works either so I could be missing something here. All I want to do is edit the PSD's I bought. It's basic mods I want to make, nothing fancy. Anyone know how to convert the pixel layers to something editable (especially the text)? Thanks!
  13. Hi, I'm really excited to join the Affinity community! I''ve been a Photoshop user for quite some time and have developed some habits I'd like to replicate in Affinity if possible. I've listed some of them below. Hopefully it's not too overwhelming... - I like the ALT+RMB shortcut so resize the brush in PS (left/right) AND adjust the pressure (up/down). Can it be setup in the preferences? - I can't seem to find a file size in the export Persona: did I miss it? I like the CTRL+Z unlimited undo: is it really unlimited or is there a max number of undo steps? That would be all for now I guess! Thanks a lot for reading until now! Have a nice day! Nicolas
  14. I use Lightroom and have a bunch of presets. I am wondering if I turn to Affinity Photo, can I import the presets that is from Lightroom? Or shall I treat Affinity Photo as an instead of Photoshop, not Lightroom?
  15. Hello everyone! I'm new to the Affinity scene and love it so far. I've been a Lightroom user for years and decided that it's time to put the presets and sliders aside for a while and really take control of my editing. Enter Affinity. The purpose of this thread is to discuss workflows used when editing multiple photos from a photoshoot. I can't seem to figure out a truly effective way to edit 50+ photos without creating a mess. Any pointers, videos, web articles, or books are welcome. Thank you all for the support and I look forward to reading your responses.
  16. I'm really enjoying Affinity Photo, but I'm struggling to manage my workflow, going back and forth between AP and other tools. This has me wondering: Do I lose anything if I go from one tool to another working with a layered PSD and never use the AP proprietary format? And if so, is what I lose minor enough to be worth the sacrifice? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
  17. I have a PSD file where there are multiple editable layers grouped together within a single layer. In Photoshop, you would open the layer, right click on the 'sub' layer you wish to edit, and click Edit Contents. Attached is a PDF where on Page 2, it will give the steps I'm referencing. When I attempt to do this in Affinity Photo, there is no such option. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance. Help.pdf
  18. Photoshop PSD file is not working properly like text converted into the image in layer with shown some errors on popup and psd file not open in existing size.
  19. Hello. Now testing AP for my professional retouching job. Have some questions: 1. Paint Mixer Brush. How can I make it "auto clean"? I can see "auto load" option, but for retouching purposes auto clean is very needed! To click "clean brush" after each stroke is pain. 2. Frequency Separation as a filter is amazing feature! But I need copy of each layer to work on them. And I need clipping mask option for layers. Is there any same thing in AP? 3. And MAIN QUESTION - Imagenomic Portaiture plugin. I'm using it everyday for blurring low frequency layer. It quite nice for this operation. I added plugin's directory to list and it even starting. I can see it's interface but... nothing works. New layer with mask - nothing happend. Just new layer - nothing. And when I tried to apply it to current layer - AP hangs up. So.. what about this plugin? It's very famous and usable. As famous as Nik software plugin pack. That's all for now. Continue testing..
  20. Hello, I have a question regarding the "Apply Image" function. I saw a tutorial where Apply Image was used in Photoshop to change the mask of an image to become the source image but as a mask (so just the dark and bright information). It was used to blend multiple exposures together. Is it also possible with the Apply Image feature in AP, or is there any other option? I hope it is clear what I mean, because I find it hard to explain. Thanks in advance :)
  21. I'm an old Photoshop user but have always been irritated by their monopolistic pricing, and I know many camera club people feel the same. So I'm putting together an 'Anything but Photoshop' talk/demonstration to take around clubs in South Wales and the borders, including ON1 Raw, Smart Photo Editor, PSP and of course Affinity Photo (my favourite). I'm chewing through the splendid videos at the moment. Any other resource ideas? Things to say?
  22. Hello, I've downloaded the Affinity Designer's trial for Windows and am testing it. Basically, I've imported a PSD (created from Photoshop CS6) to check how AD handles Adobe files (I'm Webdesigner, if I go on AD, I'll have to receive PSD files from other designers and use them into AD, so the import feature is important to me). I'd like to point out some issues. I don't know if the Trial version is a complete or a light one. This could explain the issues... Texts converted into pixels : the texts from my PSD can't be edited anymore. They seem to be pixel shapes. Missing background pattern : I had a background pattern in my PSD, but disappeared in AD. I can't even find where to edit a background pattern (nothing around the Effects). That's all for now. :)
  23. We run an online newspaper and use Lightroom for DAM We frequently use Photoshop to resize and use canvas size to fit fit into a column width What would be the advantage of using Affinity? What would happen to our Lightroom catalogs? Henry
  24. Hi to everyone, I just have a quick question/tip. Can we expect option to import of PDF/EPS (general vector files), as raster "Photoshop Import PDF" style? I do a lot of sign making, digital printing, car wrapping, and I receive files that just need to be rasterised before going into production (CREO, VersaWorks, Raster Link Pro) (font, shadows, transparencies, messy CMYK/RGB files, gradients... and so on). So this option would be awesome step of replacing my CS3 :) Thanks. p.s. eps export that works with older programs (Illustrator 10 compatibility) would be good for industry users. btw in my whole life I didn't see cleaner eps file... like hand written :)
