  1. I would love to see the feature that Lightroom has where you can select a color from your photo with the colour picker, and change the colour with the slider. See example video where the skin colour is edited this way in Lightroom. This would be so useful!
  2. I’m about to adopt the Affinity suite of apps for iPad and Mac OS. (Photo and Designer) I am a heavy Lightroom user. What are people using to do this function if you are not using Adobes Creative Cloud? Ideas?

Hello, I am a photographer and I use my photos to create imaginary landscapes with Affinitiy Photo. I love this program and I actually dropped Photoshop to use Affinity Photo for retouching my portrait photos. But here, I propose this first imaginary digital composition with Affinity Photo. (Google translation, sorry.)
  4. Hi - I’m a print photographer, primarily, and have just discovered Affinity Photo for the iPad Pro. I’m considering my workflow process and would like to move away from editing on the desktop as the Mac pencil is just so amazing and easy to work with. Does anyone have experience editing and then printing strictly off of Affinity Photo tablet? Curious of the quality (are the prints true to color/expectation?) and ease of sizing, etc. Any thoughts or stories of success / failures would be extremely appreciated. Thanks, Trxr
  5. Thought I'd revisit some shots I did with Liza. Developed and edited in AP 1.6.4. One thing I notice right off the bat is the colors are much less saturated once uploaded here than the same files appear in both AP and an external viewer locally. I suspect the ProPhoto color profile is not compatible with the site or browsers. Just a heads up.
  6. In this tutorial I cover how to create a custom filter to extract details from your images. In this tutorial you'll also find the use of Macros and a bonus for you to use as you like... ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdaySWNEpY0 The language in the video is portuguese with english subtitles. Hope you enjoy the video :) Pedro
  7. HEY Hows everyone doing on here..... I wanted to share some of my work but figured since its my first post I'd share a little about myself as well. Im new to the whole Affinity program but Ive been a Hi-End retoucher for over the past 9 years. Currently Im a retouching manager in New York specializing in beauty and Product retouching. At work we're using the Top of the Line MAC's fully spec'd out with the "industry standard" photoshop ....... BUT I've been looking for something equally as capable as photoshop but mobile! AND HERE's where AFFINITY comes in... This thing is amazing! Every time I use it I find myself going back to work the next day with another "Guess what else affinity Does" story. lol. Im shocked It can handle the files it does and I'm sure its only going to get better from here. Ive been quietly looking around on this forum and all ready see SO many talented people. So I hope to bring some of my perspective from someone who uses photoshop all day at work. But then AFFINIY for my personal on the go projects. Some info on the file - Theres over 60 layers of just umbrellas and shadows! (ZERO Slow down in app). The file closed is about 400mb but opened its 1.18gb. This was shot with my Dji Mavic Pro. Completely edited start to finish in AFFINITY Photo for Ipad Pro
  8. So most of these are just photos I took and edited in Affinity Photo, however the Jason vs Jason does have a new background put in. I know these are dark, but I was going for a darker mood when I edited these.
  9. I decided to do some nighttime photographing in my hometown with my iPhone7 and my tripod. I used the NightCap Pro app for these shots. The dark exposure (2) was shot at ISO100, f/1.8, 25s to protect the highlights and the bright exposure (1) was shot at ISO1000, f/1.8, 25s. I believe the iPhone 7 can only take long exposures of about 3s, so what this app basically does is stacking several photos for noise reduction and ISO controls the brightness of the photo. Nevertheless I was pretty amazed by what is possible with current smartphone cameras! I blended the dark and the bright exposure in Affinity Photo for iPad to bring some details in the highlights, especially for the windows on the right of the image. Then some color correcting, white balance, etc. and some dodging and burning. I wanted a warm image, because I am thinking of using this photo as a Christmas postcards for my family and friends - so I still need to do some lettering... Anyways, it was fun to do and I learned a lot about Affinity Photo for iPad and my iPhone 7... Best regards, Wetterhoun
  10. Affinity Photo includes an awesome "Blend Ranges" feature that I use to accomplish exposure blending with my photographs. It takes a little practice, but this tool is more flexible than Photoshop's "Blend If" sliders (because it supports customizable and non-linear luminosity feathering), and more efficient than Luminosity masks (smaller file size). I would love to see the efficiency of this feature further improved by the addition of presets within the blend ranges panel to create common blending curves, which would save me the trouble of frequently recreating similar curves over and over again. Presets such as "highlights only", "midtones only", "shadows only" or combinations of these would be a real time saver. It would also be great to see the histograms of the current layer, and composite histogram of the layers below, drawn behind the respective curve graphs in this panel. Without histograms it's hard to visualize how the luminosity information is distributed across the current layer and the layers below, and creating the blend curves becomes a bit more of a trial-and-error process to find the right spots in the X-axis to start or end your curve. Photoshop users have plugins like Raya Pro and Lumenzia that make exposure blending easier, although they suffer from poor UI and other issues. It would be great if Affinity Photo put some more effort into fleshing out the Blend Ranges feature for photographers who want to do manual exposure blending.
  11. I downloaded the trial versial and it doens't fit my needs. As a photographer, I edit like 200 photos one by one in a row. Using lightroom I can load all images in miniature and they are kept in a toolbar. When I click them they are loaded and I can edit, the moment I select another one the previous is "discarded" from ram and the modification are storaged. With Affinity Photo I can only load full images. I can't load at the same time 100 images, they would take a lot of time and ram. Therefore, it doesn't suit me.
  12. Good day! I'm fairly new to the whole photography thing let along photo editing. I'm absolutely in love with Affinity and its ease of use and user interface. Anyways, here's a few random shots that I've done and edited with AP. Comments and critique welcome!
  13. Here's my first try and doing a double exposure. I always loved the style and wanted to see if I could do it. Both underlying photos were taken by me and then edited in Affinity Photo. Comments and critique welcome!
  14. I've been away from the camera for some time now, but last night I decided to revisit a photo I had produced late last year. This was a 3-image HDR shot while vacationing in Northern California. Processed in A.Photo... I was just playing around with some settings, nothing too serious. I realized that I haven't had much time to play with the latest features in the app and I'm hoping to change that soon.
  15. Please scroll down to the end of this post to see the latest added tutorials. Thanks. Hello Everyone, In the last couple of weeks I shared in the Forum different topics related to video tutorials I upload to my YouTube channel. To make it more practical, I'm gonna share them and new ones in just this topic. Feel free to scroll down and find all the videos I already uploaded. If you want to know a bit more about me and what to expect, then keep reading. Photography (and design) is part of my life for more than twenty years. I began working in the advertising industry in the 90's and from there I covered many different areas from the creative process to production. Today I mainly do portrait photography, fine art, special assignments and some design projects. In the last years and as a certified trainer, I began to share what I've learned and continue to learn in workshops. I mainly cover Portrait Photography, Black & White, Digital Workflow and Retouching. For the love of sharing my passion about photography, I decided to start making video tutorials and this is the reason I end up here. The amazing software the Affinity Team made gave me the enthusiasm we normally have when we get a new toy. For me it's been a fantastic experience and discovery of new ways of doing the same things in a different, and many times better, way. And this experience is what I want to share with you. This is also the reason I'm going to cover more the Affinity apps in a photography scenario. But you can expect more, a lot more... I'll also be covering photographic tips and techniques and other software that I find relevant to my/our work. This is the case of Capture One Pro that will have also a special feature. Apart from this I'm also preparing some "extras" but that's for another time What to keep in mind: Every time I make a tutorial where I create a special resource, like a macro, a brush, a style, etc. I'll share it for free. You just need to follow the video tutorial or blog post to see the download links. Some tutorials also have a related post in my blog with more details. You can check it here: (available in Portuguese and English): http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/ The tutorials are made in Portuguese but they have English subtitles. Nevertheless I make them in a very easy to follow pace. For that reason they are suitable for both beginners and advanced users. The list I have for upcoming tutorials is long but if you have a specific topic you would like to be covered just let me know. You never know if your request is my next tutorial. This was the case of the Glow Effect video. I'm going to share them chronological so the new ones will be in the end of this topic. Finally my idea is to share tutorials on a regular basis so feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel to be the first one to know about it: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxdrAaW4Zr9lYktQmt5O4VA You can also subscribe to my Blog where you can find other topics: http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/ Sorry if I made this introduction to long, but it was important for me to share this. I hope you'll find each tutorial a useful resource and also a source of inspiration. 16. While I'm on a roll, I figured I may as well post some more recent photography edited in Photo ;) Some of these you may recognise from the video tutorials: Lone Purple by James Ritson, on Flickr One of those nice surprises you get sometimes, I didn't think much of this photo until I started experimenting with blend modes - at which point it became very moody and striking. Spinning Out by James Ritson, on Flickr An abstract long-exposure shot of a spinning record. I was shooting some video for a personal project and decided to grab a few stills too. Monsal Tunnel by James Ritson, on Flickr A very wet day in Derbyshire, which kind of spoiled the view over Monsal Dale. There was this tunnel, however, which is really atmospheric with all the reflections from the damp areas. Sugar Factory At Night by James Ritson, on Flickr Shot at night, the initial image lacked impact until I brought in some brush work and blend modes - this resulted in the Creative Painting tutorial, where you can enhance colours in images with artificial lighting. Robin Hood Hotel by James Ritson, on Flickr A disused hotel building in Newark (Nottinghamshire), and I've brought some colour into the sign using brush work with blend modes (mainly Overlay, Reflect and Screen). That's all for now - just wanted to share some work, hope you find it interesting!
  17. In this tutorial I cover how to create a winter scene using channels selections and a few more tricks. This is also the first part of the tutorial - How to Create Good Looking Snow. ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGbCcpIyZYA The language in the video is portuguese with english subtitles. Hope you enjoy the video :) Pedro
  18. Combining text with images is always a challenge. Most of the examples and work I see uses a destructive method and if sometimes it's not a big deal, others we need to do it all over again. Is this tutorial I show you how you can combine both in a non-destructive way. You'll keep all the editing functionalities of texts, shapes, filters, adjustments and layers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sqT5qHq2f0 The language in the video is portuguese but this time I add english subtitles. Hope you enjoy the video :) Pedro
  19. When I started to work with the first beta versions of Affinity Photo, I knew my Photoshop days were over. I can't say enough good things about Affinity Photo even if not everything is perfect (yet). So, for 2017 I decided to start to do free tutorials about how I work with it, and how I face the challenges of creating work that in Photoshop you normally do in a different way. This is my first tutorial and is about how you can create realistic snow with a custom brush made entirely in Affinity Photo. It works very well to create from snow storms to soft falling snow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlxXqCCx9AM You can also go to my blog and download the brush I created in the video and also another one for more light snow. http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/branca-leve-e-fria/ The language in the video is portuguese (and in the blog) but I'll try to ad english subtitles if requested. Nevertheless it's very easy to follow all the steps I show. Finally the idea is to do a tutorial more or less every week and I'll try to share it here with all the forum members. But if you want to be the first to know about upcoming tutorials, I invite you to subscribe my newsletter and youtube channel. Hope you enjoy the video :) Pedro
  20. Hi everyone, I recently need to adjust lots of those kind of product. I wanna make the background almost pure white and raise the contrast to highlight the product itself. Do you have any suggestion? Thank you first. The ideal effect is like this.
  21. Hi everyone. I recently switched from PS to Affinity Photo, absolutely loving it. My only issue is the lack of retouching tutorials for high fashion portraits, I am still learning the ropes with Affinity, so any links to tutorials or tips on things like contouring, ect, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  22. Hi all, back at it again, for those who know me i've worked on a lot of tutorials for both Affinity Designer & Photo, i've also shared a lot of my design work, menus, comic strips etc. I also have a deep love for photography especially what's know as Street Photography. Was out in Shaftesbury Avenue in London at the weekend and managed to capture this fine young gentleman, pretty sure he's in the wrong line of work. Anyway, I shot this on my Panasonic G7, Samyang 50MM and edited of course in none other than the app called Affinity Photo.... Allan
  23. This look was originally created using a preset in LR a while back. Thought I'd manually try and recreate this look in Affinity Photo. Actually, I think the result is a lot a lot better than the preset. Tomatoes on my fridge splash of water from the sink and light from the kitchen window, amazing results compared to the original. Impressed with the way Affinity handled this for me and love the look achieved. Inspiration is all around us, this was one of the first I took when I got my camera and still one of my favs. I was just wandering around the flat looking for something to snap and decided to open the fridge and grab these out, think they're called Piccolo Tomatoes go get some they're delicious... :) Going to attempt to go back to Affinity Photo and re-edit some of my favs... will post them. 24. I have photographed this lady a long time ago, now I've edited the image with AP :)
