  1. Why isn't there a download-thread with the latest release of Windows Affinity Photo Beta like for Windows Affinity Designer Beta?
  2. Hi, I'm accustomed to having a dropper tool in my HSL filter and also to being able to manually setting the Hue ranges (ie. as in PhotoPlus, but not only). Can you implement this functionality? Also, this works better with hue previews (buttons with hue shown) instead of dropdown as it is now.
  3. I'm using Krita right now but as it's mainly a painting software I'm considering changing for Affinity products as they seem excellent. There is a feature in Krita that I miss and though you are probably more focused on Photoshop functionality, that is a hell of a nice one to have: It's the tiling mode. Basically in krita you hit 'W' key and it tiles your canvas infinitelly, you can paint on any of the tiles and transition from one tile to the other. It's an incredibly simple way of creating tileable textures or any other tiling image. If the feature exists already in Photo, then please forgive my inexperience and be so kind to point me in the right track. Thanks!
  4. I just started experimenting with the beat in Windows... and it took just a couple of minutes to understand why it's so well regarded :) So... now that Red has a 35 megapixel camera (well, three of them now, but they all save in R3D) with a stills mode, it seems reasonable at last to take advantage of a rather nice photo editing application to edit R3D stills... because if that happens, then I can consolidate my kit for travel into a single body. :)
  5. Hi there! I'm new and enthusiast. Yesterday I heard about this project and got my link. And started right away. Still working a lot with old negatives and slides I often use the correction clone tools in PS. There are also correction tools of this kind here, but: the healing brush requires cloning from nearby, and the blemish removal makes things worse instead of better, it puts blemish extra in (in the pictures I used). The PS quick retouch works with pixels from the surrounding part of the picture, so you sometimes can even "paint" away a scratch, with the tools provided here you need to re-locate step by step. I'll see where it leads, it already looks very nice
  6. Hi - I take lots of photos of buildings. I have a tilt-shift lens, but it is not always convenient to use it, so many of my pictures have converging verticals which I often want to correct. Two things would make this much easier, and would give you the edge over Photoshop! 1 - When correcting perspective there should be an option to retain the rectilinear grid, rather than distorting the grid with the photo - this would let me see whether I have got the photo straight, rather than having to guess it against a distorted grid. Might it be possible to see both the straight and the distorted grid, possibly in different colours or line weights. 2.- Unless a photo of a building is taken absolutely at right angles to the facade, it is unlikely to have any truly horizontal lines - thus the spirit level straightening tool is almost useless. It will, however, always have lines that should be vertical. Would it not be possible to offer a "Plumb line" tool as an alternative to the spirit level, so that the picture can be straightened with respect to vertical lines.
  7. Thank you for the surprisingly quick release of Photo Beta for Windows! I have a few questions / comments on RAW editing as a heavy user of Photoshop and its upstream ACR workspace. While I like that Serif actually chose a common interface for traditional photo-retouching / compositing as well as RAW developing there's also features I miss right away. Photoshop's RAW development allows for global editing of image properties – pretty much in the way the Develop Persona works. That way one can raise the exposure or increase contrast – changes do apply to the whole image. Apart from that one may use any combination of tools for non-destructive brush based operations, as well as graduated filters. The impact of any contributing tool may get changed at any point in time. Even after bringing the edited RAW image into the main PS application as a smart object and having worked for hours in a composition, one can still go back and each and any global, operation as well as brush based RAW operations are still Life. One at that point can even delete the original RAW file, as it has completely gotten embedded into the .psd. If so desired, one could strip out any changes and export to .dng again. The Affinity RAW editor seems not to have any of the tools I just described. Also, RAW development in Affinity seems to be understood as the first step in a linear stream of editing operations. One may of course re-enter the Develop workspace, but all tools have forgotten the settings one had dialed in initially. I wonder what your plans are in terms of RAW editing: Do you plan to keep Develop-setting Live? Is non-destructive brush / gradient-based editing with any combination of tools on the roadmap? I also wonder what happens if one uses a couple of RAW based images on a large Poster. In Photoshop one may use these images at their full size or as a thumbnail. But one can scale that thumbnail up again or paste it into a new file and raise the output size here. As the RAW information is encapsulated in the Smart Object one never loses resolution. Obviously one shouldn't go larger that the original RAW but for all smaller output sizes one can practically forget about resolution issues. Is there a similar solution inside Affinity Photo?
  8. 1. ability to scale from a scale center (center of transform) I's it really so hard to do ? 2. linked embedded files. So we wouldn't push "replace document" any time the source file was updated. Do it as a single command for every embedded files . Kind of re-embed all the embedded files. I feel a bit tiresome do it manually for every one separately. 4. Please do a kind of savable layers compositions in export persona having such compositions remembering same kind of compositions within embedded files. ie. what layer is on and off within embedded files, contrary to Photoshop. Maybe a kind of tags for all layers/objects with option to show things only with specific tag.
  9. In Photoshop it is possible to select all with CTRL+A and then detach what you have selected from the current layer instead of duplicating that layer by selecting CTRL+SHIFT+J. You can also detach other elements from a layer this way that you have selected prior. This needs to be possible in Affinity as well. Thanks.
  10. Hi there. I've just started trying out the affinity photo beta. I'm impressed, but I've noticed a strange behaviour. On using the brushes, when I start a stroke right on top of another stroke, I can only effect the pixels that were effected by the first stroke. This is very peculiar. Is there a way to turn it off? Thanks! Edit: nvm, figured it out! As you were.
  11. Are Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo both fully functional on Mac OS 10.12 Sierra or are there any issues? Thanks!
  12. I posted this earlier in the Beta thread but I think it might need to be here too. I had assigned Function Keys 1-10 to toggle various Studio panels, ie Brushes, Swatches, etc. The function keys worked in Photo 1.4.3 (and still do!) I think they worked in Photo 1.5 (beta 5?) I'm not sure of that because I was swamped with other things and did little with the program at that time. In beta 6, they do not work. They do nothing except make that annoying Alert sound. I thought at first it might be an OS problem but they work as expected in Photo 1.4.3. They work in Photoshop. I've done everything I can think of. Restarted my Mac, repeatedly. Cleared all the things in Miscellaneous. Deleted Photo 1.5 beta 6 and downloaded and reinstalled it. Nothing helps. I'm running El Capitan on an iMac.
  13. Hi, I'm loving the program so far - I find it a lot nicer to use then Adobe. Just a few questions - 1. Are you guys able to give us a rough date on when you see the ipad version of affinity designer + photo will be released (im very keen) 2. I have purchased both Affinity Designer and Photo on my mac, I no longer own a mac or pc and work exclusively from an ipad pro. Will I have to re-purchase these apps or will the licensing cross over for the ipad? Thanks!
  14. Hi; I'm giving the AfP extensions a try; regarding Apple Photo app, i've found this issue: I've loaded a bunch of JPG images into Photos. Selected one, clicked 'edit'; looked for the AfP extensions and selected the 'edit in affinity photo' one. Image loads into AfP normally. Edited it, exported, then closed. Back in Photos, clicked on Cancel in order to preserve the original. Then I selected a second photo and repeated the steps. When selecting the AfP extension, Apple Photo tries to load it into AfP, but the document never gets opened. Pressing cancel or closing the app brings a message indicating that the edition is in progress, but the document never gets loaded into AfP. Quitting Apple Photos and reopening it brings me to step 1: can edit the first image, but hangs on the second. My camera's RAW format isn't compatible with Photos, so I cannot tell you if this is a JPG issue or a general one. Regards; Val
  15. Hi, I am Arun. I am new to Affinity Designer and Photo. I am very impressed with the tools. I would like to buy both Designer and Photo. I would like to know if there is any offer or a combo package available if I buy both? How many systems can I install and use it with a single license? Is it concurrent license or seat license? Regards Arun prakash
  16. We know that there'll be the iPad counterparts of Designer, Photo and maybe Publisher. I was wondering, could Serif post more promo clips on these apps, just to whet the appetite even more?
  17. Hi, on a regular basis I check Affinity Photo to asses how close it has become to a viable alternative for Color Correction / Prepress production jobs. People in this business (including friends and colleagues of mine, worldwide) tend to use an established set of techniques, which in turn require tools – not many, to tell the truth: we could be using Photoshop CS4 and do 99% of what's needed to get the job done. FYI, what would make legions to operators switch to AP (but AP still misses) in my opinion are: 1. A proper set of Channel Blending tools, namely: Apply Image working on the open image's own channels: e.g. apply the Red to the Green, Lighten mode, 50% opacity. We use Channel Blending on ~80% of all images we work on. Calculations is handy too, but Apply Image would be OK. 2. A proper automation system: Macros are the first step, scripting is the second (I know there already are topics on this so I'll just mention it). Production doesn't only mean batch processing, but also dedicated script that can automate hundreds of steps based on each image's features. The two above are, I would say, mandatory for people in my business. Which includes also savvy retouchers. A delightful extra, instead, as follows. The AP team already gifted us with a true gem: Curves in RGB, Lab and CMYK – at the same time. What would obviously follow (at least for a color correction twisted mind) is a Channel Palette displaying at the same time R, G, B, C, M, Y, K, L, a, b, 10 channels. This, combined with Apply Image working on channels would make us drool and set on fire existing subscriptions. I'm sure the engineering team has its own, well defined, priorities: my intention is to put to your attention what are the needs of some professionals in the imaging business. Thanks for your attention and best regards, Davide Barranca
  18. I am already smitten by Designer and Photo! I have worked with digital design apps since the late 1980s, starting with the 1.0 versions of Freehand, and PageMaker, and with Photoshop since the early 1990s. I see these as viable "next steps" for my current CS6 suite, which is now pretty much frozen in time. Since I'm mainly a "type" guy, one missing feature that stands out for me as soon as I open the apps is an option to show measurements in picas and points. It may not be as important with painting and drawing programs on their own, but I still work with print publications where it really is easier (and for me, native) to think of measurements as 12 to the pica, and roughly 6 picas to the inch. I'd love to see another unit option that allows for this (go with digital picas if you prefer to keep it a straight 72 points / inch). This would add an important underpinning for your upcoming Publisher product, where I guarantee many of us who work with type will demand it. Thanks, and I'm going to go back and play with these new toys now… -- Matt
  19. Hi Affinity team, I don't know what is the best set-up (Designer and Photo) to use with my hardware : MacBook Pro 9,1 - i7 2,6Ghz - 8Go Ram - nVidia GeForce GT650M 1Go + Intel HD4000 OSX El Capitan 10.11.6 I don't find any informations to understand what could be the best preferences I've to select for my kind of hardware. For the moment I've selected both and I got less "ventilation panic", but is it the best thing to do ? According to me, there is a lack of information on some options in the prefs. panels. Thanks by advance for your answers.
  20. I have had Affinity Photo for several months. No major issues. After receiving a promo email I have just purchased Affinity Designer which downloaded and installed OK. On first attempt to open, the app crashed. Tried again, same result. Went back to Affinity Phot and tried to open it and that crashed as well. The Designer install has screwed both apps. I then used the reply in the promo email to advise Serif and ask for assistance. Advised to hold the Control key while opening and when reset menu appears to select all. Tried this with both apps but it does not work with either. HELP!

  22. I think the ability to save the History of your work is a really amazing feature in Affinity Photo. As a newbie that was pretty excited about this feature, I have been turning it on for all of my work. However, after noticing some slow-downs and crashes, I have been trying to figure out how much of an impact history has on performance and file size. I'm curious how much space it takes up in a file. More importantly, I am curious what sort of impact saving history has on performance. I am running Affinity on a fairly old Macbook Pro, so any tweaks I can make to get things running more efficiently will help. So, I guess I am asking two things: 1: Does saving the history with your file have a big impact on performance while working? 2: How much does the history affect file size?
  23. Very MUST HAVE feature, when you are selecting points, they appears in own bounding box, and you can manipulate it like an object — scale, rotate warp (add warp). Just like in 3dsmax. Open 3dsmax and just add many coolest features from there, your app will conquer universe. Just from Edit Poly tool. Add extruding edges — killer feature... Just a lot of basic tools and you will be a king... Also: copying along path, matrix, create object arrays etc.; make instances or copies of objects, make it separate type. Make linked or embedded objects. Would be great to have ability to join many edges to one vertex (but the last is like fantastic)))
  24. Hello, I've been using Affinity for a while now, and have liked it quite a lot. Photo bends quite well to digital painting (sometimes even better than PS) but today I noticed a tiny problem. When I use Paint Brush with a brush that has texture (I've included a picture), the brush cursor shows all the little holes in the brush too, which makes it a bit hard to see what I'm painting. Is there a way to reduce the cursor's visibility somehow? For example turning it into a crosshair permanently (for now crosshair works only when the brush is really small) or showing only the outline of the brush, not it's insides too? I've looked through the Preferences and the forums, but I haven't found a solution yet. Thanks!
  25. Hi; More a question than a request, let me know what you think. Currently, if I apply an adjustment over an image, when I close its window the adjustment keeps selected, forcing to manually select the original layer in order to perform other tasks. For example: let's play with the levels... ok, it's good. Now let's apply some focus... mmmh ¿why is it not working? Oh, the layer is unselected. Now let's apply some intensity... but I'm seeing some noise; as the noise filter doesn't work well yet, let's go to develop persona. ¿What? ¿An error message? Oh, it's the layer becaming unselected again. I'ts a bit annoying... ¿Should be more logical to keep the layer you came from selected after applying an adjustment? What do you think? Val
