  1. I have created a paperback book cover in Affinity Photo, and now I want to export it as PDF to send it to the printer. I cannot figure out how to export a PDF that looks anything like what I see in Affinity Photo. (Nor can I export anything that looks right in any other format, for that matter.) Here is a screenshot of what the cover looks like in the Export Persona: Here is what the PDF (for print) preset produces (I made no adjustments to the preset): donation-cover-paperback.pdf This export appears to include the one pixel layer from the document, with at least some of the adjustments applied to turn the bills from dollar-bill color to blue. I cannot explain the grainy waviness. I have some fill layers, which either do not appear in the PDF or appear as white. My document has a layer mask that fades the edges of the pixel layer into the background fill layer, but it does not appear to fade here. The text (in layers above the fills and pixel layers) does not appear at all. The original image is dollar-bill colored dollar bills, with a certain amount of focus blur, but otherwise no fuzziness. Here is what the TIFF RGB 8-bit preset produces (I made no adjustments to the preset): donation-cover-paperback.tiff This appears to be the adjusted image, but without the text, and without the layer mask that fades the edges of the image. Again the text is completely missing. JPEG export looks similar to TIFF. I get these results from the "page" predefined slice in the Export Persona, and from the File -> Export command. The only thing I've been able to do that seemed to work is to merge the document into a single layer, then export that as PDF. I'm not sure I want to rasterize the text (I have never sent the printer rasterized text before, and am unsure whether the results will be what I want). Any clues about where I'm going wrong?
  2. Affinity Designer shows great promise, so looking forward to trying the beta of Affinity Photo. Please have a plugin capability to Nik (Google), OnOne, and other photo plugs can be brought to Photo.

    Export transparency

Good day to everyone, I have started to use Affinity Photo a few days ago. I am curently working on a project where I need to place some objects without background. Affinity Photo works good so far (concerning selection tools). But I have an issue with export. Tiff doesn't work at all. PSD has "sketchy" edges. Only PNG works, but pictures are supposed to be printed. What shall I do? Please, see attached picture. Thanks Jan

    The Spaceman

Hi, I've been spending some time with Affinity Photo and loving the results i'm getting. Here is something that I've worked on today, enjoy. #TheSpaceman. Allan
  5. Hello Affinity team, I cannot tell if this is by design or just an oversight in regards to Designer and Photo… I am unable to add any guides to the document while any tool is selected other than the black arrow move tool. While working and wanting to quickly throw in a guideline, I find it to be an interruption to have to switch a tool just to add a guide to a specific location, I feel like it should always be available to drag onto the canvas at (well, almost) anytime. If a tool other than the black arrow is selected, the ability to add guides does work using the guide manager as a workaround, however using the guide manager is not nearly as fluid and can be cumbersome compared to the natural maneuver of just dragging it in where you want it. Tested using latest builds as of July 25, 2015 Thank you
  6. Hey guys, I'm very new to Affinity Forum and this is my first post! I have designed new icons for Affinity Apps based on the original icons' unique characteristics and flatted design. I hope Affinity Team can see this and maybe get some ideas from my design! Let me know what you think! Affinity have updated the apps with brand new flat design, personally I think the new design is tasteless and not easy understandable for newcomer who didn't see the original design! All design are using just Affinity Photo beta app! Thanks for sharing your opinions!
  7. Is it possible to create a layer mask with the pen tool? I have a very difficult subject that needs to be removed from a photo and the pen tool will allow for precise cutting. Photoshop can do this with tremendous ease... I would need this to be possible in Photo. Any advice? Thanks!
  8. When creating a new image there's a drop down with the label "DPI". This is incorrect, images doesn't have DPI (it's a printer unit), they have PPI.

    Disneyland Paris Tower

An ominous photo I took in 2012 of the Hollywood Tower Hotel in Disneyland Paris. Retouched in Affinity Photo and Noiseless Pro in 2015 from the original RAW file.

    Portrait edited in Photo

All my previous work has all been in Designer because that's what I do, but I do have a real hidden passion for photography. This was taken in France a few months back on my iPhone6 with a Moment lens attached. Now we are out of beta, i'd thought i'd give it a serious go. My first piece in photo and although i'm pleased with the results, there is still a way to go and more to learn but working in Photo was fun. You will see the before and after, and what a difference 30 mins in Photo makes. Allan.
  12. If this hasn't already been reported (or if I'm doing it wrong..) In Affinity photo, crop seems to be global for the canvas, not per object/layer. For example, I start a new 1280x720 blank image. I use the place command to place a photo on the left I use the place command to place a photo on the right I need to crop the photo on the left, there seems to be no way to do that in affinity photo.
  13. Not sure if this is a bug, or if I'm misunderstanding something here, but I'm having an issue with blend modes and I was hoping someone could help me out. I have a gradient map nested in a photo (basically turning it black and white). The photo has a Multiply blend mode. Underneath, there is a blue solid layer. For some reason, this is turning out much darker than doing the same thing, just rasterizing the image and gradient map together (see attached images). The lighter version is how I expected it to turn out, but I'd rather not destruct my layers if I don't have to. Any idea why I'd be getting different outcomes here? Shouldn't the gradient map only be affecting the image since it's nested? Thanks!
  14. How can I use guides to aide my selection? In other words, essentially "magnetize" the rectangular selection tool to follow along the guides that I have already placed?
  15. So far I have done a few photo corrections and basic extract, cut and paste in AFP and was sufficiently impressed to decide to invest some time and effort into trying to learn AFP to a usable standard. This is my first attempt to produce an image entirely in AFP. I can't pretend it wasn't very frustrating at times. One of AFP's most amazing features, the way it stacks and nests layers, masks, adjustments, is very powerful and subtle, but it's also the most difficult to get your head around. You have to forget anything you learned elsewhere and learn a quite different approach and philosophy. This simple image contains no photographic elements at all. It is 'painted' entirely in AFP using pen, brush, Layer FX, and some noise. That's it. Just the very basics. Given that my next best passion after photo manipulation and creation is my kitchen and cooking, I thought a foodie subject would be appropriate. I broke an egg into a non stick pan put it beside my monitor and created the image from life just as one would a traditional still life painting. This is very unusual for me as I normally work photographically, but it seemed a good way to get to grips with some of the tools. Can't pretend to be entirely happy but no one should be ashamed of first attempts, that's how we learn ............ and I learned a LOT by doing this. :) I shall definitely be persevering further. 17. Would it be possible to integrate additional scrubbers for stock websites: iStock Photo (http://istockphoto.com) Dollarphotoclub (https://www.dollarphotoclub.com)

  19. Hey guys, have just purchased photos and really love the speed. Here are a few things that I'd like to request for Affinity Photo: output parameter in levels - to allow the min and max levels multiple colour samples points (eg: http://www.takegreatpictures.com/app/webroot/content/2010_images/2006/07/10/Figure3.jpg)
  20. Would like an option under the file menu to revert to the last saved version on disk, basically a shortcut to "close, discard changes, re-open the file".

Media Browser / Photo lib locations

Hi, how can I add my Foto libraries that are stored in different places to the media browser? If I add the folder or the .photoslibrary file I see the folder structure of it but not the photos. The default "Photos" folder is empty. BTW: The folder list gets blanked out if I add folders or click around after some time, so that it's a blind flying.
  22. Summary When attempting to export a layer slice based on a rectangle with a gradient fill to an SVG with certain settings, Affinity Photo 1.3.4 crashes.Steps to Reproduce Open "AP Slice Crash.afphoto". Note the rectangle layer "transition-gradient" in the document. If there isn't one already, create a slice based on this layer in Export Persona mode. Choose any of the SVG export presets. Attempt to export this slice, either using the "Share" icon next to the slice in the Slices palette, or by clicking the "Export Selected" button. Expected Results Affinity Photo exports an SVG of this slice and continues to function.Actual Results Affinity Photo crashes without exporting the slice to SVG.Notes This crash occurs on OS X El Capitan Version 10.11 Beta (15A215h), which may or may not be related. I've included a test document and a video of the crash occurring on my 15" Retina MacBook Pro (Mid 2013) while the dedicated graphics card is active. 23. Affinity Photo (henceforth "AP") does a stellar job of importing from PSDs, but there are some usability improvements that would help to properly set user's expectations about the nature of the import process. For example, AP appears to rasterize Vector Smart Objects and Embedded Smart Objects into "pixel layers". Fortunately the user can determine the type of an imported layer quite easily by looking at the parenthetical text following its name, but AP's attempt to preserve layer names has the potential to set false expectations at-a-glance, as this image describes: As also noted in the above image, this can have significant usability implications for exporting to PSD, as rasterized layers may keep their default names (as imported by AP), but are in fact be pixel layers within the exported PSD. This confused me the first time I exported to PSD after initially importing from one. There are similar caveats for the layer names of other imported layers. For example: type layers are imported with their names, which suppresses AP's automatic layer naming for type layers based on their text content. It's likely that these layer names originated as auto-generated names in Photoshop to begin with. – Based on these observations, I have a few recommendations in the form of optional PSD import options for layer names: A "PSD Import" option to append " (Rasterized by Affinity Photo)" to the end of layers in a PSD that become pixel layers upon import into Affinity Photo A "PSD Import" option to remove names of type layers if the entire layer name exists as a substring in the type layer's text content, starting from the first character An option to review layers that have been rasterized upon importing a PSD Cheers, Joe

  25. I can't find .DPX, .EXR or .CIN file formats in the supported list, any chance they will be supported in an update? I'd love to get this for my photo work, but it would be great to also use it for my film jobs as well.
