  1. Would love automation/scripting/actions and ability to create all these (perhaps as "plugins") in a common scripting language like JavaScript (even allowing a "simple" mode similar to recording actions in Photoshop). For workflows which are repetitive it would be great to automate common actions as well as support third-party plugins which allows sharing common workflows, extend basic functionality, etc. Programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch and even something like Unity3D support this, and a cottage industry of helpful third-party plugins exist to extend the features and usability of apps beyond the capabilities of the core dev team. I think for Sketch it is a huge draw-card for users to automatically do things like create interactive mockups, export multiple files/sizes at a click of a button, and I would imagine that it would open up some great community-driven potential for Affinity's range of products (especially for Affinity Publisher, which I'm really looking forward to playing with, being a long-time sufferer of InDesign since Adobe shelved Freehand).
  2. Affinity Photo for Windows 1.6.0 is now live. We are pleased to announce the first update for Affinity Photo for Windows (version 1.5.2). The update can be downloaded from here. Once downloaded, close Affinity Photo and run (double click) the downloaded EXE to install it. A list of the fixes this release contains is being prepared and will be posted shortly. To install this version you will need to have the Affinity Photo for Windows already installed OR you will need to type in your email address and a valid Product key when prompted. When installing on top of an existing version you will not be prompted for the product key. If you need it you can find your product key (and a download button) in your Affinity store account, where you will also find the email address used to generate the key when you ordered the software. If you have installed any previous beta version of Affinity Photo 1.5.2, that beta can be safely uninstalled before or after installing this release update, they are independent installs. The beta will stop working soon anyway. Please report any problems you have installing or using this new version in the Windows forum here Patrick Connor The Affinity Team
  3. Hello, Does anyone know of a nice way to make a global font replacement in all affinity documents? I have redesigned a font, and would like all uses of the old font to be replaced by the new font. example - Font A is in all affinity design and photo package designs, and would like Font B to replace it. Just looking for a solution that does not involve opening 500+ documents and *select* replacing every text appearance in each file. Thank you for any advice you may give. Mars
  4. Hi Guys! I have been using the Affinity Products for a month by now and i have happily switched my workflow for the Affinity Products. I'm a motion designer, so most of my time on the Affinity Products is for creating assets for animate it later. With that in mind i have a couple of feature request and suggestion for future updates, some of my ideas could be far fetched for the original intentional use of the affinity product, however i think it's good to suggest. - For Both Softwares 1) Improving the brushes I know this is a quite a generic request, but since i tend to use brushes alot in my workflow i have noticed that the brushes in Affinity Products behave differently and sometimes even irresponsible, i had a lot of trouble sketching my ideas in Photo. It's hard to explain, but it doesn't feel as pleasant as the Photoshop brush, it has some weird delay to it. I don't know if i am missing some steps for using the tool, but i have been quite unsatisfied the way the brushes work. 2) Video formats and safe guide lines when creating a new document Creating a new category in the new document that has movies formats and when you create it will automatically create guide lines where is the safe margins. (Just like Photoshop and Illustrator) 3) Timeline and animation tools, such as onion skin. Some simple animation tool for creating a Gif a small video, as a motion designer i tend to create small particles that are hand drawn, and it will be nice to had a timeline with proper frames and onion skin to it. (Animation Persona perhaps?) 4) Pattern Tool Just as Illustrator that you can create a pattern and apply as a fill to a object, without having to duplicate many assets and merge it together. - For Affinity Designer Only 1) Export or convert to Illustrator format I don't know if this is possible, but since i usually import the Illustrator file into the After effects for animation, now that i have switched for the affinity products my wokflow has been: Creating a large asset > Export as PSD > Animation in After effects This workflow works but i tend to lost the vector properties of the image, it will be very helpful if i could export as a vector file that After effects supports and also read the layers from the file, such as the illustrator files. (EPS tend to merge every layer so i won't work for this purpose) - For Affinity Photo Only 1) Symmetrical painting Just as Krita has, a way to paint symmetrically on the board without the use of copying and flipping. That's all! I really hope to stay with the affinity products. I even began to recommend it for my other motion designer friends and i look forward to give more feedback in the future! The only major complain that really disappoint me are the brushes, beside that i love the software. Cheers!
  5. Loving Affinity Photo 1.5! Couple of little bugs, one is rather annoying. I can have an image open, and go off to do something else (switch accounts, sleep Mac) and when I come back the image isn't visible, it's all black. Layers and such are all there but the image isn't visible. I can close the image and reopen and it comes back just fine. I've attached a screenshot that might better explain what I'm seeing. Wish I could be more specific on what causes this but it's happened several times.
  6. When you've created a new file from the clipboard and then want to save it, currently you're unable to use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+S to save it - you have to use Ctrl+Shift+S for Save As... What I'd like to see is Photo understand that, "Hey! Even though the person behind the keyboard has hit Ctrl+S to Save, I, being the ridiculously cleaver and talented package of software code, AKA Affinity Photo, understand that they're actually trying to Save As...! I will graciously translate their ham-handed keyboard floundering to the correct form and open up the Save As... dialog for them!" :)
  7. When you're using the circular selection option, I'd love to be able to use Shift+Ctrl to constrain it to a perfect circle, centered at my cursor. Also, once the circular area is selected, it would be great if you could constrain the movement to horizontal or vertical or 45 degrees by holding Shift, like you can with object movement.
  8. If I understand the function right, I can do the following: 1. load a picture (Pic 1) 2. add an adjustment layer - LUT 3. press Infer LUT 4. choose an original file first (Pic 1) 5. choose an adjusted (with a different prog) file second (Pic 2) 6. close dialog box So far so good, the result now on my screen looks like Pic 2 and I have an adjustment layer on top of my original file Pic 1. When I now export this as a LUT, I would expect, when I load Pic 1 again and apply this LUT it would look like Pic 2 again, but it isn´t. Am I doing something wrong or the program or isn´t it meant to work like this?
  9. Please can someone advise me on the best way to digitalise a photo of a pencil sketch so that it can altered or manipulated in either affinity photo or design. Many thanks, Max
  10. Hello friends :) Can anyone help me with centring text vertically in Affinity Photo? Can find horizontal no problem, but vertical alignment feels elusive. I've done some searches and found a few people asking for this back in 2015, but nothing conclusive about whether the feature exists or will ever exist. Why I want it in case you can help me find a better way :) I'm doing cover design for a book and want to align the text on the spine (currently rotated 90 degrees) so that it is centred. "Roughly right" with the Mark 1 eyeball is how I'm doing it at the moment, but I suspect the Mark 1 eyeball has a bit of an error rate. Thanks in advance. Affinity feels like the best software purchase I've made this year.
  11. Hi All! I am new to photo editing in general, so probably a newb question. See attached, when I open various photos like this, that have LED lights, they do not appear as the original. Other photos of LEDs open the same as the original. This is occurring mainly in blues and purples. The raw is a .NEF file directly from a nikon. No edits were made to it. All options are unchecked in all the right hand tabs in develop persona. Please help!
  12. Hello, I'm using median or average stacks to reduce noise in night and milky way shots, and most of the time they work great. Anyways, sometimes alignment fails, mostly because the sky is moving, while the landscape is not, and I need to manually tweak image alignment. I've tried to enable the "live alignment" option, but didn't understand how to use it to manually realign my shots. Thanks in advance for any help. gerlos
  13. Currently I'm trying to do some photo editing, but also to annotate the photos. I find that mostly Affinity Designer is the tool I want to use, but sometimes once I've used a photo as a layer I want to go in and modify that - for example blur out faces and even car number plates. Can I do that within Designer, or do I have to go out and do the blur in Affinity Photo or some other tool, then re-import the photo, and maybe even have to do all the layers which have been stacked up all over again? I'm hoping that either it will be able to do some photo operations (including blurring) for selections within layers in Designer, or alternatively that a photo in a layer can be exported quickly to a photo app (could be Photo - but not necessarily), which can then be used for doing the photo bit, then re-importing the edited photo back into the same layer. The point is that sometimes one doesn't notice that this is necessary until most of the detail has been worked out, so it would be good not to have to redo all the work just to get some part of a photo dealt with.
  14. I can't help feeling this is a silly question, but ... is it possible to delete a brush -- not a whole category -- in AD or AP? Failing that, is it possible to move a brush into a different (new) category, which can then be deleted? I've been experimenting with creating brushes, and I'm starting to get the hang of it, but we learn by our mistakes -- and I've learned quite a bit!
  15. I've been experimenting with AP and AD, and have now found out how to do blur of selected parts of images using both - thank you forum members! One of my files - now effectively a test file - has a slight corruption - though mostly I can simply mark the layers with the problem as non visible. I'd quite like to find out what went wrong, and maybe then delete any unwanted layers, or redo the steps "correctly". Is there a history trace which can be used to identify where the unwanted edit took place, and which can be used to go over the process again? Either in Designer, or Photo - perhaps even both!
  16. Good afternoon, I want to clean some spots on an old photo with the clone tool brush. In the past I selected an area near the spot with Alt/Click and filled in the spot with Click/Drag. But since the update 1.5 it doesn't work anymore, no matter what combination I try. I use a Macbook Pro with the latest version OSX. Regards, Maarten
  17. Hi Just after some advice with a panorama  . I went a bit overboard with 11 source images and my resultant stitched image is approximately 10:1 aspect ratio (40000 x 4000). The best local print option I can find is 9:2 in terms of aspect ratio. Is my only option to crop to that print aspect ratio, which kind of defeats the point of the panorama? Are there options to resize then crop? I guess I could print on the width I want and cut off the blank, that may be the most pragmatic solution? Thanks
  18. Is there a way to prevent Photo from pixelating my image while dragging layers? I'm guessing it's a performance related feature, but I want to turn it off so that I can always keep a sharp eye on things at all times. When I say pixelating, I mean that it degrades in quality while I am dragging. But, after I release the mouse, it renders at full quality again. Also, it only seems to happen in certain situations. Like, only certain zoom levels and sometimes only certain layers are affected.
  19. I've searched this forum and I haven't seen anyone requesting the artboard feature, for Affinity Photo. It's not a deal breaker feature, but it's really nice to have. My usage would be for mockups, I often take photos of blank paper packaging in several angles and it's convenient to group them all inside the same file. Thanks! EDIT: Actually, I've just stumbled upon this very feature inside Affinity Photo! I've done it by creating a new iPad document and then duplicating the default artboard. However I can't see any way to add extra artboards through the menus, nor I see a way to convert a normal photo/image into a artboard. There's nothing in the help system about this either. I guess this is now a Questions & Feedback topic, but I can't move or delete this topic by myself. A little help here please? Thanks again!
  20. I see how to save presets for Curves, but I don't see how or where to apply them. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
  21. hi there. i'm a pro-photographer. i decided Affinity photo is good enough to work in my field after i had watched many tutorial videos. however, during testing trial of this app, i found 2 of the big problems for me. first, when i open raw up, it takes about 20~30 secs by just only one RAW.(at photoshopcc, it took just 2secs to do open it) i can't endure it seriously because i usually import at least 200 of RAW files at once. first, during development RAW, reaction of image is too slow. here is my circumstance. RAW : d810's 14bit cRAW computer : Macbook pro 2015 early 13" 256ssd with 8gb ram / using lowest monitor resolution performance option : check out all of options and set it for best speed. and order using about 6gb ram, 20 history is it normal to take long time to open raw? thanks.
  22. This is something I always had to work around in Illustrator. All object 3D transforms sharing the same perspective. I made it work by adding an empty rectangle that had neither a fill, nor a line to a group and did the transform on that. So I could add to it. For Affinity a new and more thought out system would make sense. What I'm suggesting is a basic 3D space. No raytracing or rendering tools here. Just a basic space where to put vector and pixel objects into and place them soundly with each other. A bit like Apple's Motion with rotation and 3D position tools. For compositing / matte painting the cherry on top would be the ability to import Alembic or FBX camera files with a distance readout on the Z-Buffer for fogs, fades and blurs (like a dynamic alpha). This new space could be the basis for a more sophisticated grid system to create single and multi-point perspective grids for various uses from lettering to comic book panels. Combined with the ability to toggle objects from their normal object type to guides (and back) this could make it very easy to visually create complex grid systems for perspective drawings. The lower level the implementation, the better. Think of a vector warp tool that adheres to its points being dragged in a 3D context. It would make wraparound logos a breeze. Or tin can label mockups that accurately match but still remain 100% live editable vector. For basic modelling an extrude/lathe would be expected though, since Illustrator has that. Badly done, but it's there.
  23. This might be feature request, or maybe I am doing something wrong? If I place/embed an AD document into an APhoto document, when I double click on the AD layer in APhoto it opens it in a new document tab also in Photo. My question is - if it is an AD document imported, shouldn't it open it in AD? The Edit in AD option is not available for this embedded document either. (linked documents as opposed to embedded would be nice also, but that's a different topic). Thanks, -damian
  24. Hi, I came across a nice tutorial for post-processing Nothern Lights/Star photography using Photoshop On FStoppers (https://fstoppers.com/originals/advanced-six-step-program-processing-aurora-lightroom-and-photoshop-164984), and I was particularly interested in section 5 of this tutorial which aims at making "leading stars" bigger using luminosity masks. I have tried doing something similar in Affinity Photo using Blend Range tool (equivalent of luminosity mask in Affinity Photo) but I have not been successful. Using an unsharp mask filter and a lighten blend mode makes all the stars a little bit bigger (which is a good start) but I am after a more dramatic effect that only works on the biggest stars of the image (without going through the painful process of manually enhancing them one by one using local adjustments). Would someone be able to give me some pointers on how to achieve that? Thanks, Xav
  25. Hey there, I think it would be useful to have different subforums for bugreporting for each software. At the moment, e.g. bugs for AD and AP are both reported in one subforum although there are even subforums for Bugs on Windows and Bugs on Mac. One level more would give a more clear/tidy overview. Greetings, Johannes.
