  1. Hello everyone, I'm having an issue where both Affinity Designer and Photo stay at "Not Responding" for about 3 minutes when starting up the program and THEN it opens fully. Basically it is super slow to open. This is a clean install as I just bought the software and there's nothing else running on the PC and the PC is still new and running well so it's clearly a problem with the software. I already tried changing the performance options (Renderer to the dedicated GPU instead of the iGPU which is the default for some reason. Also tried WARP). As for how well the program runs once it opens it's, meh, it runs jerky, zoom animations are slow and panning is super slow (This is NOT 60fps as advertised, more like 5fps) BUT if I use the touchscreen it works quite well, much better than the touchpad. I tried the software on a Mac and it was amazing but on Windows it kinda sucks so far. My Specs are: Windows 10 Home (1903 / 18362.145) Intel i7-8550U RAM 16GB iGPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 dGPU: Nvidia MX150 EDIT: It appears that panning and zoom have improved somewhat! But sadly it still takes super long to start and still says "Not responding".
  2. Hi, I was working on someting simple when the updates came through today and after applying the update and opening the same files I was working on in AD again I noticed straight away a performance issue I had not seen before. The update felt a lot worse than my experience with AD since the start. I've attached a screen recording which show the difference clearly. I have two identical groups, the have a layer [same in each group] with fx applied to it. When the layer with the fx is turned off, the performance is fine, dragging the group around is smooth enough. When I do turn on the layer with the fx the performance is basically non-workable for me. You'll notice it in the video. The fx layer isn't antyhing heavy, just a bevel as a test, I've attached a screenshot of the fx. I've also attached the actual file if anyone would like to try. Also attached a screenshot of the peformance settings in the app preferences. System info: System Version: macOS 10.13.6 (17G5019) Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro13,3 Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 8 MB Memory: 16 GB I have a Wacom Cintiq 21UX and an old 27" iMac attached as extra screens unplugging them doesn't make a difference. 3. Hello, I’m looking to upgrade my iPad Pro 9.7 which I’ve been running Affinity on for the last couple of years. Does anyone have experiences of the performance of the iPad Air vs iPad Pro?
  4. Hello, my system: iMac, Intel Core i7, 3,1 GH, RAM: 16 GB camera: brand new Fuji X-T30 affinity photo 1.6.7 all assistant options inactive on start raw engine: serif labs It takes about 20 seconds to open a file. My Canon raw files are ready in 2 seconds... Any ideas or updates in the pipeline? Thx!
  5. Hi, after some inversigation I found out, that the new Noise Reduction algorithm increases the develoging time more than three times (on my machine): #135: 4 seconds (default setting) #243: 13.5 seconds (default setting) also the new Lens Correction and the Lens Remove Vignette increases a bit the developing time. Without any settings the developing time is nearly the same: #135: bit less than 4 seconds #243: bit more than 4 seconds Is there any chance to improve this in the future or enable to toggle between the new and old noise reduction algorithm?
  6. Hi Mark, regarding the developing performance with a 22.3 MP .CR2 of a Canon 5D M3 Load time: #135 --> 7.5 secs first time, later then 6.5 secs #240 --> 4.5 secs first time, later then 3 secs Developing time without adjustments (default settings): #135 --> 4 secs all the time #240 --> 13 sec all the time and I get a "washed" out image (btw. it's 1.5 seconds faster then the previous betas) If you need a sample file, please let me know... Thanks!
  7. It seems the performance in the newest beta is still messed up. See the movie I attached. All I did was create a new document, float the window, then drag t he window size handle around. This doesn't happen in the production version. My computer is a windows 10 machine running an i5 processor and 2 GB NVidia card. Nothing to brag about but totally sufficient for Affinity. 8. Hello, I'm trying to use my Huion Tablet G10T in Affinity Designer but it does not work properly. The problem is that it has a lag or delay that does not let draw the stokes/lines well. Also when one moves something with the tablet Pen, it continues moving by itself without direction and no stopping (it stops only when I changed the pen for the mouse). I recently changed the Driver for the last one available on the Huion website -HuionTablet_MacDriver_v14.3.10.181225 (beta) I'm using: MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 The Tablet works well in Illustrator and Photoshop, but not in Affinity Designer. Any suggestion?
  9. Hi! Thanks to the developer for their contribution. Merry Christmas! In most cases, the performance of affinity photo is excellent. But I noticed that in some cases it is slow I used a 100 million pixels Lab/16 canvas to create twenty layers. The save of large-area modifications is extremely slow or even horrible. This is not a bug or a computer problem. Large-size (1000+) brushes are slow. Because of the lack of hardware acceleration At the same time I use the macos version, the speed after 1.7 is amazing, the filter responds in time without any lag, and everything is attributed to metal acceleration (in macos 1.7 metal) Please consider adding Lab/8 support to provide a faster preview than lab/16, especially in the current missing gpu acceleration. I will continue to use affinity photos in macos mojave (metal2 api)
  10. Hej there, I am using an i7 Skylake with an GTX950M and 16GB RAM, still I get very very slow panorama and HDR renderings from Canon CR2 files. At the same time, very little CPU capacity is used (~15-20 %). Tonemapping panoramas takes easily a complete afternoon! I would love to see an performance upgrade in future versions (even if I have to pay for it). Otherwise, Affinity Photo is close to irreplacable as the generated images are excellent. Even the output using the default settings is much better than for example Aurora HDR, imho. Sincerely, Benedikt
  11. Hello, I'm experiencing a poor graphics performance after upgrading to Mojave, tried switching from OpenGL to Metal, which didn't do a trick and then switched back. Are anyone experiencing similar sluggishness? And maybe somebody can tell me ways to work around it? Thank you!
  12. Hello I understand Affinity Photo can benefit from the usage of a GPU, I have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M since it's a laptop. My question is, to ascertain that software does is working with the GPU, should I select the GPU selection in the Affinity Photo Preference Menu in the Performance Tab?, should I assign it directly in the Nvidia control panel? or should I do both things? Thank you
  13. Bounding box issue I get pink bounding boxes around all images and text boxes that are very distracting and I can't get rid of them. Artistic text is outlined with a similar pink line. it's not a bounding box but a pink outline around individual characters. Image repositioning refresh lag Moving images around the page is almost impossible because the box seems to move while the image is stationary. It feels like I'm trying to crop the image with the image box. Eventually the image refreshes and is positioned roughly where I moved it to. this strange behavior is inconsistent. Sometimes the image box moves with no image in it and the image eventually fills the box by revealing strips, almost like a bad web design page or slow server a la 1997. I use the Publisher program on my Surface tablet with none of these issues. All of my other applications perform equally well on both systems so I'm wondering if there's some sort of specific conflict between Publisher and the Nvidia graphics card on the wacom.
  14. There seem to be a big performance hit when text wrap (tight, both sides) is applied to grouped vector graphics. Spinning ball everything halt for about 5-6 seconds.
  15. Great product, first of all! 1. On my computer, every time I start up APub it takes about 30 secs to load the UI. 2. More annoying: Opening the "Character", "Paragraph" or "Text Styles" tab for the first time takes up to 10 secs, each. I have about 350 installed fonts. My Specs: Affinity Publisher 1.7.0.57 WIN 10 Home, 64-bit i5-7300HQ 16 GB RAM GTX 1050ti 4GB WIN, Fonts and APub installed on SSD
  16. Pretty much whenever I attempt to use Brushes in pixel mode, I get major major lag in performance, like 5 or more seconds sometimes, between when I draw and when the results appear on the screen. The problem seems to be more severe when using custom brushes, or the default included brushes when the width is increased to very large. I also get performance issues when I switch the blend mode from "Normal" to something like "Multiply". As far as I know, I have a pretty good computer - I've attached a few screenshots of the specs. I've also tried changing the "Performance" configurations but have yet to improve this lag. I've also tried closing running processes and applications. Am I missing something here. My computer is super fast with regards to software development but I'm new to doing graphics related things so I'm uncertain if there's hardware that I'm lacking. Thanks, Andrew
  17. Hey guys, I just got a new video card (gtx 1060, my old one was a gtx 750), got a new case (antec 302) which has 2 huge coolers (as opposed to my old case, which had only one small cooler), and switched to windows 10 (was using windows 7 until now). I noticed that if I keep Affinity opened for a few hours, the fans start going crazy at some point, and the cpu temperature goes over 60 degrees Celsius. I know that's not a lot, but my cpu temp barely hits 50 when playing counter strike go for example, so going to 62-63 seems a bit unnatural. When I close Affinity, everything goes back to normal immediately (32-33 degrees Celsius). Why does this happen, and is this normal? Thanks, Chris
  18. AD/AP should block all processing/rendering/etc threads when it is not the active window or when it is minimized. Active tasks (the type that would present a progress dialog like export/save/etc) should of course not be suspended, but there's no reason for AD to be rendering the canvas when it's in the background. Additionally, all tabs except the current tab should always be suspended. The CPU (not memory) profile of AD when open with a single tab active (and not "multiple documents mode" enabled) should be identical whether that tab is the only tab loaded in AD or one of a hundred.
  19. What is the performace/speed issue when trying to work with raw files using iPad Pro 9.7?
  20. I'm at the current stable version of Affinity Photo for Windows and I'm experiencing a lag, when using Healing Brush on "Current Layer and Below." Has anyone experience this? I'm using Wacom Intuos Photo with the latest WACOM drivers installed and I just reformatted and reinstalled everything on Feb. 4, 2018. Thanks for reading, Ron
  21. If I create mulitple objects in affinity designer the performance become slower. If I hide the objects it is faster again. How can I solve the problem? 64 GB RAM 8 GB video graphic
  22. It takes over a minute to open (WIN 7 with AP v. 1.6.2.97) I read that my color settings may be wrong "WCS device profile" but I have no idea how to change it (if I could find it and knew what it was). Others on the forums say it takes about 7 seconds?
  23. Hello. First of all let me just clarify that I excellent performance doing anything else, this bad performance is specifally just this for some reason. But when I create a "Mask Layer" performance just grinds to a halt. it is 100% un-usable. just alt + lmb to display it takes 20 sec and I can even see how it slowly changes one "tile" at a time into the white mask it applied. pressing ctrl+i to invert it takes another 30 sec and then trying to paint in some information with a brush, simply forget about it. The preview brush under the marker will not even display, and if i do a brush stroke it takes upwards to 1-2min before it displays and then ofcourse it is not smoth at all. I am not sure what is causing this, I have opend a 36mp .TIF file in ProPhoto RGB, and again all edits such as a regular levels layer or curve layer works perfectly fin, full performance super smooth. And creating a empty pixel layer and painting with a brush there works perfectly fine. It is just Mask Layers that will cause this slowdown. I've searched the forums finding nothing to this specific problem, changed performance settings, un-installed and re-installed... but the issue reamins This is currently making the software 100% un-useable for me.
  24. Hi how does affinity photo perform while editing raw files using a 2017 Imac I5 8GB Memory Imac? I head photoshop and lightroom is very slow, I just wondered if anybody used affinity with this spec mac? Darren
  25. I have Affinity for windows, and I'm really impressed. My old laptop struggles to run affinity though, Looking at reasonable priced new latops (low end) it seems NONE of them can manage a 1920x1080 screen resolution - and I don't use it often enough to justify spending a lot. But I notice that I can get an iPad Air 2 for less than a laptop, and I think I'd use that more too. Editing photos is a big part of what I want to do, so my question is: Is an iPad Air 2 good enough to run Afinity pro withot it being awkwardly sluggish? And that applies to photo editing, and panorama stitching, (which I suspect is considerably more demanding)
