  1. Hi team. I hope you guys are safe and well during all of this COVID-19 chaos! I have a quick question regarding Affinity Photo for iPad. When I draw, the screen seems to blur or lower in resolution as soon as my Apple Pencil touches the screen, and then it smooths out again when I lift it. I did a screen recording to show what I mean, here's the link (be sure to watch in HD): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSQTuxV0E34 Why does this happen? It's subtle, but it can be a bit disruptive when doing finer detailed line-art, as I can't always see the smaller areas in as much detail while drawing. An example is the finer hatched lines in the video, which become quite unclear as soon as I put the Apple Pencil down. I seems to happen less when I'm quite zoomed in, but I tend to prefer working a bit more zoomed out so that I can see more of the content I'm drawing while I'm drawing, and not get lost in the details. Thanks in advance!
  2. For me, the pencil tool is one of the most used tools in illustrator. It is a very powerfull and easy to overlook tool in Illustrator. In 1.6 the pencil tool was weak in Designer and made me not using Designer so far. I was a bit hyped when i saw the update notes that the pencil tool had an upgrade. I am flying through the update and am trying to close a shape with one line just by overlapping the first node. I am trying all kind of stuff but so far no luck. Any thoughts? the sculping option is a welcome update. It is not so advanced as in illustrator but it is a start. I am happy to see this!
  3. Does Affinity Designer have a similar function to Adobe Illustrator "Edit selected paths" for Pencil tool? It allows to correct drawn paths/strokes while drawing by "re-drawing" segments of them (I think Astute Graphics have a plug-in which does similar thing as well, again for Illustrator): it is very useful for hand drawing in Illustrator. I've tested Affinity Designer trial version on my PC (Windows 10) and it seems to perform better than Illustrator. However, I was unable to find a function similar to "Edit selected paths." Thank you in advance for help.
  4. Every time I try to draw with Designer on Mac and iPad the curves I draw are instantly "corrected" after I finish. I've tried playing with settings of the application or the brushes but I couldn't find a way to just stop "correcting" my drawing strokes. Is this the expected behavior or is there a way to disable this? Please see an attached video of what I mean. Thanks. vector brush test.mov
  5. I Hello, just bought iOS affinity photo and want to sketch with pencil over photos I’ve taken. Adobe Sketch allows a setting to ignore all hand and finger pressure, so I can draw properly with just the pencil. am I missing something, or is this not possible with a iPad Pro pencil? This will be a refund request if not possible!
  6. I am considering upgrading my old iPad Air 2 to an iPad pro 12.9, and possibly a getting a second generation Apple pencil. What is the experience of the community in using the Apple pencil (2) for Affinity Photo? Does it integrate well with the app, what do you use it for, and what tips could you give a newbie? I have looked through help and the tutorials, which gives me some idea, but I suspect there is much more that would help a new user get the best out of this hardware - software combination. And a Nikon 810.
  7. Since the last update. I can't draw in real time. Neither draw nor delete. I use the Apple pencil, but the delay is considerable. That's when he wants to draw or delete and not hang the program. We need an update soon, it's our working tool. All the time you see in the video that's happening is, we re using the Apple pencil on the screen, with brush or eraser. And then when he paints it makes him suddenly. rpreplay_final1559843880.mp4
  8. I love how each tool can have its own double tap shortcut but the shortcut options are limited. My favorite use of the pencil so far is doing alpha masks. It’s so perfect, precise, and quick in the app + pencil that I’ll probably never do curve selections for cutouts again! One very common task when drawing alpha masks is to switch between black and white colors to draw what part of the layer is visible (white) and what part is hidden (black) Request: Allow double tap shortcut for pencil that switches between two colors, kinda like hitting the X key in photoshop. This will let me quickly swap between black and white brush tool colors when working on alpha masks.
  9. When i use brush with presure sensitivity, the brush make a weird line and make chopy shape i dunno my device not compitable or what (my devices is ipad 6 2018) i need brush for making font, any one have the same issue's here? help me to solve this D18B7D97-D185-422C-8E05-374BC510AC19.MP4 A815AFBA-86AA-4735-A17B-FFC3527004A0.MP4
  10. Hi, I will get my iPad Pro next and I tried to figure out which pencil I should use for the Affinity app. Do you have any recommendations besides the Apple pencil? Thanks -Nick
  11. Hello, is there any possibility that a future update for Designer will allow for the user to control the smoothing on a newly created line or fill? As an illustrator it is VERY important to be able to have what I draw get accurately reflected when I lift up the pencil. Currently Designer is making that decision for me (not cool). It feels like a program of this caliber should be able to offer the user that level of control. I would love to be able to turn smoothing off so I can actually draw what I am intending. Is there a possibility that that will be implemented in a future update? Also PLEASE add a vector based eraser tool! Thank you. Caleb
  12. Hello. I couldn't find a direct answer to this. Is there a way to sculpt a pencil line in the desktop version of Affinity designer. I love using this feature on the iPad and find the Pencil tool basically useless to me without it. Thanks,
  13. I would like the ability to control opacity from within the pencil tool— like an rgba set up. I would also like to be able to set the tool as a multiply (or other) type to quickly layer shapes and colors. As of writing I’m not sure if this is possible without going into the layer menu to adjust opacity and layer types.
  14. I'd like to request a feature/key press for the pencil tool behaviour that would allow you to close the curve you're drawing? In illustrator holding down the option key does this. Currently I'm drawing the curve, then I select the last node and snap it to the first node to close it. This is a step I'd rather not have to do over the course of possibly hundreds of curves. I could use the pen tool but sometimes the pencil feels more organic and is quicker when precision is not what you're after... would love to see this added to the 1.7 lineup, thanks for considering this. :-)
  15. Hi! so I started working on an illustration as first serious project in A designer. Thrilled! After trying out different brush settings I finally found what I was after. After tracing a bit the app started laffing and froze. The feel and quality is awesome and I hope there is a way around this. My settings were with pressure and it happens with stabilizer on. Is there any fix for this? greetz, c
  16. Hi there, my new iPad is on its way to my home. It will arrive in a few days, but I would love to buy the iPad version of Affinity Designer right now. Does anybody know, how I can buy an iPad App without an iPad? I tried to send it as a gift, but that doesn't work. And, which 3rd party pencil do you recommend for the iPad? I was about to order the Apple Pencil, but I really don't know if it's worth the money. Are there any pencils you can recommend for drawing and sketiching on the iPad 2018? Thanks in advance and cheers, Ken
  17. Recently I have had the problem with my pencil picking up the background color when I'm trying to paint with a different color. It's not only painting on masks but other situations also.
  18. Hi there, In Designer, when you've drawn a line (path) with the Pencil tool, and lifted your stylus, the path is 'done', and the Pencil is ready to draw the next path. ¿What if you want to Continue that same path – rather than just adding another one at its end? Pencil sketching is appealing because of its speed; it would no longer be any fun if you had to manually connect paths that you want to be a single one. Is there a modifier key to do continue from the last node of an already drawn path? I couldn't find one. If none exists, would this be a good feature for the Wish List? thanks in advance, - pbass
  19. Hi! Started to learn Affinity. I don't know how to make colouring in between multible pencil curves. It worked when I made single curve but if my area is between 4 curves, how to do it then? Please check attachment. I tried to find tutorials from youtube but... Thank You to everybody who tries to help me! Wagner
  20. Hello Folks, What am I missing? This makes no sense. I am sure I must be doing something wrong here. When I try to "Expand Stroke" on a line created with the Pen or Pencil Tool, "Expand Stroke" does not work. It probably has to do with a custom brush being used. Do some custom brushes don't expand? Thank you in advance for your time.
  21. Hey I'm new on Affinity, I used to work on Adobe. I'm not an english native speaker so I hope my explainations are clear... I used to draw on Illustrator. In this software when you draw a shape with the pencil tool, then you can select it and draw "over" the line to refine it, or extend it. In affinity designer if I draw a curve with the pencil tool above an other curve it creates a new curve, it doesn't change the old one... I don't know if you see what I mean... Is there an option to change that ? Thank you!
  22. hello I'm new here, so I'm not sure this is the right place for this topic. I'm drawing a portrait in designer, and using pencil tool. I'm using a wacom tablet, and I noticed that if I stop drawing the line I couldn't edit it with the pencil tool. I'm using the pencil tool mostly when I draw with my tablet's pen, and I'm very used to edit the line with the pen in my hand like I'm still drawing it but, I couldn't find a way to do this. it just stops acting like a pencil. is there a way for this? another thing is, theres maybe some hundred lines. -imagine a beard drawing- those lines are very close to each other -by the way designer's performance is still great even those tons of anchor points- without any lines selected, I'm picking node tool or move tool, but I'm unable to select any of the lines. I have to do this from the layers panel, so it's not coming handy. one more thing; when I hover any line with node or move tool it's not showing any anchor points etc. like smart guides. I used affinity competitor app more than ten years throughout my whole career. I guess I discovered affinity two years ago if I'm not mistaken or a year ago. couple of days ago I decided to use affinity for all my professional work. I loved the app a lot, I believe in what you people are doing, and I want to support you on the long run. I'm working 6 days a week 24/7 if I'm not sleeping, and I'm planning to give you tons of feedbacks as I do my work on affinity. I hope that's ok. I hope I will not make any developers angry. I will just right my thoughts in here so maybe some of them helps you.
  23. Howdy! I just bought Affinity for my iPad Pro and haven't yet gone through the tutorials. Do I need the iPencil to use Affinity correctly? What am I sacrificing if I don't have an iPensil? What is the best brand / model of an iPencil should I get. I'm choking on spending another $99. I welcome your advice. CD
  24. Hey, I would love to see a feature, which lets me continue or rebrush curves with the pencil tool by going over the selected path a second time. B
  25. In AP you can achieve a pencil sketch effect by taking your layer stack, 1) Desaturate with an adjustment layer. I use Channel mixer, and Grey output channel. 2) Layer/Merge Visible 3) Nest a new Invert adjustment within the new pixel layer 4) Also nest a new Live Gaussian Blur layer within the new pixel layer, radius around 1.6 5) Set the blend mode of the new pixel layer to Color Dodge See attachment for result. This also work if your layer stack already included various live adjustments. However this removes the ability to further edit the adjustments in the below layer stack because they have already been "rasterized" into the merged layer as well. More precisely their further modifications will not be reflected in the end result as if they have been done before the pencil sketch effect. Is there a way to achieve the same effect (blending math) and still be able to edit the preexisting adjustment layers and have them affect the result in the same way as if they have been modified before creating the pencil sketch effect?
