  1. Hi, I will get my iPad Pro next and I tried to figure out which pencil I should use for the Affinity app. Do you have any recommendations besides the Apple pencil? Thanks -Nick
  2. You can replicate the error if you have the brush tool and you resize the window either from the sides or corners of the affinity photo window, after that the pressure of any brush can be detected and gets like lineal the only way I found to fixed it is to close the application and open it again.
  3. Hey I'm new on Affinity, I used to work on Adobe. I'm not an english native speaker so I hope my explainations are clear... I used to draw on Illustrator. In this software when you draw a shape with the pencil tool, then you can select it and draw "over" the line to refine it, or extend it. In affinity designer if I draw a curve with the pencil tool above an other curve it creates a new curve, it doesn't change the old one... I don't know if you see what I mean... Is there an option to change that ? Thank you!

    pencil tool

hello I'm new here, so I'm not sure this is the right place for this topic. I'm drawing a portrait in designer, and using pencil tool. I'm using a wacom tablet, and I noticed that if I stop drawing the line I couldn't edit it with the pencil tool. I'm using the pencil tool mostly when I draw with my tablet's pen, and I'm very used to edit the line with the pen in my hand like I'm still drawing it but, I couldn't find a way to do this. it just stops acting like a pencil. is there a way for this? another thing is, theres maybe some hundred lines. -imagine a beard drawing- those lines are very close to each other -by the way designer's performance is still great even those tons of anchor points- without any lines selected, I'm picking node tool or move tool, but I'm unable to select any of the lines. I have to do this from the layers panel, so it's not coming handy. one more thing; when I hover any line with node or move tool it's not showing any anchor points etc. like smart guides. I used affinity competitor app more than ten years throughout my whole career. I guess I discovered affinity two years ago if I'm not mistaken or a year ago. couple of days ago I decided to use affinity for all my professional work. I loved the app a lot, I believe in what you people are doing, and I want to support you on the long run. I'm working 6 days a week 24/7 if I'm not sleeping, and I'm planning to give you tons of feedbacks as I do my work on affinity. I hope that's ok. I hope I will not make any developers angry. I will just right my thoughts in here so maybe some of them helps you.
  5. Howdy! I just bought Affinity for my iPad Pro and haven't yet gone through the tutorials. Do I need the iPencil to use Affinity correctly? What am I sacrificing if I don't have an iPensil? What is the best brand / model of an iPencil should I get. I'm choking on spending another $99. I welcome your advice. CD
  6. Hey, I would love to see a feature, which lets me continue or rebrush curves with the pencil tool by going over the selected path a second time. B
  7. In AP you can achieve a pencil sketch effect by taking your layer stack, 1) Desaturate with an adjustment layer. I use Channel mixer, and Grey output channel. 2) Layer/Merge Visible 3) Nest a new Invert adjustment within the new pixel layer 4) Also nest a new Live Gaussian Blur layer within the new pixel layer, radius around 1.6 5) Set the blend mode of the new pixel layer to Color Dodge See attachment for result. This also work if your layer stack already included various live adjustments. However this removes the ability to further edit the adjustments in the below layer stack because they have already been "rasterized" into the merged layer as well. More precisely their further modifications will not be reflected in the end result as if they have been done before the pencil sketch effect. Is there a way to achieve the same effect (blending math) and still be able to edit the preexisting adjustment layers and have them affect the result in the same way as if they have been modified before creating the pencil sketch effect?
  8. Does Affinity Designer have a similar function to Adobe Illustrator "Edit selected paths" for Pencil tool? It allows to correct drawn paths/strokes while drawing by "re-drawing" segments of them (I think Astute Graphics have a plug-in which does similar thing as well, again for Illustrator): it is very useful for hand drawing in Illustrator. I've tested Affinity Designer trial version on my PC (Windows 10) and it seems to perform better than Illustrator. However, I was unable to find a function similar to "Edit selected paths." Thank you in advance for help.
  9. So far I had only used AP for photo editing on my iPad Pro, but finally got around to draw and paint in it yesterday, and I was enthusiastic! This was as close to draw on paper as one can get on a screen, I thought. Better than Procreate even, which I’ve been using for my daily work since I bought the iPad Pro when it first came out - but I was disappointed today and had to give up on it and shared the drawing I had started with Procreate and finished it there. What went wrong? Well, it started to lag. The line was dragging several millimetres behind the tip of Pencil and it made it impossible to draw with quick strokes as is my manner. There is still plenty of space on the iPad, more than 80 gb out of 128 and the drawing wasn’t that large, either. So, anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? I’ll attach a short screen recording which shows what happens. ADFC4E31-3A27-4ED0-97C2-A065AF00998F.MP4 The screen recording didn’t play on my iPad at least so I attach a screenshot, too.
  10. Hi! I was wondering if it's possible to see the line you're drwaing when you use the pencil tool. I would like to draw shapes from beginning to end but now I keep getting close but have to connect them manualy - lottawork. Hope the hear something! thnx
  11. Would love to see the pencil have an option to see the drawing line as it being drawn to help make quick hand drawn shapes.

    Touch to erase

Is there a way to quickly switch to the eraser tool other than tapping it in the toolbar? For example, in Procreate, I can set it so that my finger always erases, and the Apple Pencil uses the currently tool.
  13. I'm a new user. I have seen people talk about using the pencil tool, but I can't find that tool. Where is it? What does it look like? I'm on version 1.5.2 thanks
  14. Please can someone advise me on the best way to digitalise a photo of a pencil sketch so that it can altered or manipulated in either affinity photo or design. Many thanks, Max
  15. Hi, I've searched the forum but it seems that these features have yet to be implemented. So here I am asking whether they are possible and I am just missing something: I'm talking about the Pencil Tool in Affinity Designer. 1. Is it possible to automatically close a path after you have drawn a...circle...let's say? So basically I'm asking AD to snap to closing the path for the Pencil tool. 2. When I use the pencil tool and stop drawing with my tablet there's a problem resuming the shape that i've already created. You just simply cannot continue the path. Cheers!
  16. Hi all: I have found the pencil tool invaluable but there's always one little thing that it would be nice to have: Is it possible that the point at which the line is started could show as a visible coloured node? Whenever I get to what I think is the point where I started, I'm off target! It's not a huge problem but it would make the workflow faster if I didn't have to clean up too many nodes. I attach a poster I made where I used the PT for all those spiral patterns cut into the kerbstone at Newgrange. It could be that I'm just not using it properly and my apologies if that's the case. BTW I'm absolutely delighted at the way AD is working. Best wishes to all the team,, Kevin
  17. Hi there, I have recently downloaded the Affinity Design Trial to see whether i am tempted away from Adobe Illustrator. One of the main techniques i like to use on illustrator is using the pen or brush tool to trace over key areas of pictures i have inserted. I would take my time to trace over these key shapes and whenever i finished a section, the tool would auto smoothen out the lines. However, although Affinity Design has this function, it is no way near as smooth as Illustrator (You can see this in attached image). I do not know whether there are any options that adjust these tools to make my lines consistently smooth like Adobe have achieved. All in all, if i could solve this issue it would definitely confirm me leaving Adobe to join Affinity. I was set to buy the software until i came into this problem. Look forward to any useful responses, JT
  18. Hi, new to Affinity. So far I'm loving it. I'm working on a client project that requires dotted and dashed lines (boundaries on a map). I'm having problems figuring out how to set up a brush to do it. Is this somethgn Affinity can do...?

    Pencil Tool

I would like to be able to use the pencil tool with auto fill on but not have it "auto filling"as I draw, it is very distracting and makes it really hard to see exactly where I am drawing. Is there any way to make the completed shape autofill once I lift my pencil to start a new shape a-la Illustrator? I like to draw using shapes (even for line work), but the autofill feature "filling" as I draw is kind of a drag. It kind of kills the flow. Any hope to add this type of feature in the future?
  20. Each pencil stroke becomes a new one—bad. Feature to continue drawing one stroke is needed.
  21. i feel that pressure stroke effect should for brush and pencil tool also
  22. Hi, I really like to draw with Designer, but sadly, I can't use it for most of my designs, because they get completely broken after pasting them to Sketch, Photoshop or Keynote: Check the append screenshots: Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Affinity Designer 2. Select Pencil 3. Set controller to anything but None 4. Draw something with Wacom (or with mouse and acceleration) 5. Select pencil strokes 6. Copy 7. Paste to Keynote, Sketch or Photoshop 8. The artifacts also appear when exporting as EPS. Assigning a brush-stroke shape with constant width removes the problem but looks ugly. Interestingly, every brush-shape preset produces different but reproducible artifacts. Does anybody else had the problem? Any hints or work-arounds? BR, tom

  24. Hello, I think, i found a bug in Affinity Designer. When I paint with the vector brushes and with the Color Picker receiving a new paint over Alt key (⎇) is taken over this while painting. But if I do the same with the pencil, the changed color is indeed changed in the color-view with the color picker, but I paint with the old paint on. Please change that the vector brush and pencil with respect to the color picker behaves the same. Many Thanks! Newstone (translated from German with Google Translator)
  25. In Photoshop I can choose Brush, Pencil or Block as Erasers. In AP, I don't see anything similar to Block or Pencil. More specifically, I want the means, like in Photoshop, to erase WITHOUT anti-aliasing. Even when I set AP's Erase Brush Tool to 100% Harness, it is still anti-aliased and therefore it is no substitute for Photoshop's Pencil and Block erasers.
