  1. Using Wacom Tablet, can the Pen or other tool be used to 'sign' as in add my signature to a photo layer? Using macOS Sierra, Mac Book Pro 2016, Affinity Photo V1.5.1 (Getting used to transitioning from PS Elements) Thanks in advance for your kind response.
  2. Is there a way to convert a path to a selection, and have the selection be added/subtracted to a selection that is already made?
  3. Windows Affinity Designer: I dug out my hardly-used Wacom Bamboo digital tablet today and have managed to activate pressure sensitivity for the peNcil tool and the vector Brush tool via the Controller menu. Wonderful! But can pressure sensitivity be applied to the Pen tool, too? I cannot seem to work it out.
  4. After I draw a curve using the pen tool. Is these anyway I can write my text along that curve (like you can do in CS Photoshop)? Thank you.
  5. 1. Lasso issues-unable to add a selection from inside a marching ant selection. 2. Should add feathering option in the the pen tool's prior to concerting a path in a selection. 3. Pen tools seems to disconnect from the main path when plotting narrow intervals.
  6. I'm struggling to find beginner tutorials that aren't too much too fast (1 hour of drawing condensed into 3 minutes) or too little (explains basic features but no drawing tutorial). I sketched out several figures and now I want to put down vector based lines and erase my pencil marks. Here's my problem: (true novice here, bear with me) I put in my first line and adjusted it just fine, but now when I try to put in another line, it automatically connects it to my first line and that messes them both up. I cannot figure out how to draw another line without it automatically linking to my first line. Help, please? Any advice or links to tutorials would be very welcome. I've been reading through the menu in "Affinity Designer Help," but this is my very first time trying out a drawing tablet and I'm feeling handicapped by my lack of previous exposure and knowledge. Almost ready to give up and go back to paper, except.... this program looks SO INCREDIBLE. Please help. I need to figure out how to make this work!!
  7. Hello everyone I recently got Affinity designer after years of Illustrator. I love the program but am still getting the hang of it. Can anyone tell me how I can get the curves I want whilst using the pen tool? Just like on Illustrator, I click once with the pen to create a point. I click again to create the next point. The line path from point A to point B has a really wonky curve and is not at all what I want. This mainly happens when I'm drawing clouds or trees. I can't seem to get the perfect line and curves that I want without using the node tool to edit my lines or just using smart mode. Dragging the mouse doesn't help me to get the curves or shape I want either. Is this just the way Affinity works or is there some setting that I am unaware of? i'd really appreciate any advise here! Thanks so much :)
  8. In the attached screenshot I am trying to merge the red box and the blue line. My purpose is so that I can then select and move one of the side nodes and have all three protruding lines stay connected to it. Using the join curves button doesn't seem to accomplish this and using the combine function removes the blue line entirely. In Illustrator creating a new path off of another one automatically merges them – in Designer it creates a new curve on top, which is keeping me from making the shape I need :( Is there a way to combine these curves the way I described? Thanks!
  9. I've noticed that pen tool is so laggy and slow. Also there're some lags and distortions when I try to move/drag any object. Are there any ways to solve this issue? Here you can check the gifs I made: http://imgur.com/a/7hpyt Windows10 8GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M
  10. So far I like what AD has to offer. I primarily use CorelDraw and when I first saw AD way back when it was Mac only. I am glad to see the transition to Windows. Inital observations 1. Conical Gradient tool AWESEOME! CorelDraw has had this for as long as I can recall. illustrator is only a cumbersome work around 2. pen and line tools good but if I may suggest a change. In order to change the still I need to draw a line first then add style or line type...it should be if I select a tool type and be able to select object before I draw for example blur blur effect or bevel. This way I can see the effects right away and not have to stop edit then continue drawing. 3. combining object in Coreldraw and illustrator the order is first or last object select. AD has it bottom object only, would it be possible to change this to an active object like in illustrator or Coreldraw?
  11. Hi Affinity Developers, First of all a huge word of thanks for all the efforts and good ideas that went into Affinity Designer. It is really refreshing to have someone make a clean start on a vector drawing program. I think the interface in general is a big improvement over AI. I also really love the way AD handles masks, which I find is a pain in AI. The ability to combine raster and vector in one program is a huge plus, and it's main selling point, I think. AD is still in its early stages of development, so a direct comparison with AI is unfair (also because of the price difference), yet, because I have AI CS5 installed, I still don't use AD as often as I would like. The main reasons for this are the path editing tools and the freehand drawing of vector paths. These two functions are the bread and butter part of any vector drawing program, and AI still handles some things better than AD. Let me elaborate: I think the pen tool is way better than it's equivalent in AI (actually I hate the pen tool in AI!). But I confess that I have the plugin Inkscribe installed and this makes a big difference. This is basically a combination of the pen tool with path editing tools. When comparing inkscribe and ADs Pen & path editing tools there are some things I really miss. The first thing is the way Inkscribe deletes nodes: instead of the curve just falling apart it spreads the load between the next two nodes and attempts to keep the curve intact. This is a BIG deal for me, as it makes cleaning up paths much easier. Also it give the ability to add nodes to the tangent point on a line, so you get handles at 90 and 45 degree angles, which is a great way to make editing paths easier. Overall I think the pen tool is very good in AD, but I miss the ability to snap handles (to the grid, for instance) or constrain them to 45 or 90 degrees, also after this is drawn. This is better in AI and I hope AD will try to replicate this behavior. Something I find one of the most annoying things in AD though is that it is very hard to delete a segment of a line. This should be as easy as clicking on a segment and deleting it. Now I can't really figure out how to do it at all properly, and it needs way to many steps  Another thing that keeps me using illustrator is the freehand drawing tools. IMHO these are still superior to AD at the moment, for the following reasons: Being able to adjust setting for smoothness and accuracy The ability to redraw paths The ability to extend a drawn path the ability to smooth a path the ability to easily connect or close a path These 5 things are lacking in AD, and it makes the pencil tool rather unusable at the moment for me, even if I think the brush engine is much nicer. Another thing I would love to see is a functionality like the Dynamic Sketch plugin for AI. This adds to great features to the regular pencil: a path eraser, which erases up to an intersection, really speeding up a drawing workflow. It also will automatically connect paths in some situations. intelligent path joining, meaning you can draw two intersecting paths and the program creates a connected line from it, this is really great when drawing paths freehand, as you don't have to be to fussy with angles and edges Also the ability to change setting for smoothness and accuracy after the path is drawn is nice. I hope that AD would be able to integrate some of this functionality in its program in the future so I can forget about AI… :P Some other things I would like to see: (mentioned by others as well, this is just my list) Multiple strokes & fills live paint, or an even better way to fill shapes quickly Symmetry tools (like Manga Studio / Sketchbook pro) Artboards and/or pages Knife & Scissors tools I hope this post is not too negative. As I said AD is onto great things and I really hope to see it grow as the best in the business!
  12. I'm not getting any crash reports but working on a complex file with the pen tool has caused AD to stop working - I get a window that says AD has stopped working and a report is sent to MS but no crash report is generated. I have been working on the file for the past few days in beta 14 and all has been okay so far, but having installed beta 15 it has started to play up. Let me know who you want the file to be sent to, I'd rather not upload it because I'm working on it while waiting for the permission to post publicly.
  13. Hello everyone.Could you please help me in creating a selection using pen tool in affinity designer
  14. Would appreciate a tutorial on how to use of the pen and node tools, including all of the features available in the context bar. Thanks.
  15. I switched to Affinity Designer from CorelDraw and I'm loving so much about it! There is one thing I can't seem to do though that I found very useful on CorelDraw. When working with curves the three modes are Sharp, Smooth, and Smart. I can't seem to find a way to have a curve exiting one side of a node, and a straight line exiting the other. I find I have to make really tiny curves to try to approximate a straight line. Am I missing something? Is it possible to do this with Designer? Thanks!
  16. Hi, It would be really nice if you could move the placed anchor point immediately if you press the spacebar. Like in Illustrator if i place a anchor point i can immediately move it if i hold spacebar.
  17. Maybe I'm just not using it correctly, but I can't seem to make strokes vary in width on a line. I forget what its called in Illustrator, but you can change a stroke to start off thin and then gradually get thicker in the middle, then go back to thin at the end. I think I found the way to do it here, by change the size variance of the stroke, but I don't see any changes happening. In the attached file, I want the selected line to resemble the line in the brush editor, but it doesn't change. Is there a way to do this?
  18. Hi Enjoying Affinity Designer, taking a while to get used to a slightly different interface. I was worling on a vector trace of a Land Rover using a png image on layer 1 as a background image and using Layer 2 to trace the image with the PenTool. Had completed about half of the trace when I was editing the amount of curve at a node and Affinity Designer suddenly dropped out. No error messages. Fortunate I save my creations regularly so the work was not lost. Was able to reload the file without difficulty. Thought this feedback may be of use to you. Brian Clements affinity defender.afdesign
  19. I'm new to affinity, trying it out to see if I like it. But I'm struggling here.... How do you delete or erase part of a line segment in a shape? I have two overlapping shapes, and I want to make them into one and delete the overlap. I rasterized the shape, but is there a way to un-rasterize it in its new form? Or is there a way to get a cleaner cut from a line segment with out it being pixelated in the first place?
  20. Hi, One feature I am struggling to find is being able to select an individual node of a shape after the shape has been created with a shape tool. For example, using the shape tool to create a circle. I would usually create the circle, and then select the node tool this would then allow me to choose an individual node from that shape that I would like to modify the position of. Now some how I did mange to get this to work on a triangle but I can not replicate it. Using the node tool on a shape is very similar to just using move tool on a shape. It would be awesome to have access to those nodes by simply clicking the node tool. :) Other than that it has all the features of illustrator that I need so big thumbs up!! Craig
  21. Hello, for some college courses I have to use Illustrator on the school's computers meanhwile on my personal laptop I have to use affinity, I have a homework assigment in which I have to trace an image downloaded from the internet, I know i have to use the pen tool yet when im doing some of the curves ( im using this image), and i also have to color it (using black and white). I really need some help!! Are there any tutorials where can I learn how to do it, or can you give me a step by step instruction, Thankyouu!
  22. Hello, Im currently tracing an image using the pen tool for a school assigment and as I am doing the traces all of the points or dots I dont know how to call them ( Im just starting with the program), please help! ive noticed that as i finish a line it either turns out to be a square or a circle (do you mind explaining the differences) and I do not understand why as I am trying to make a curved line it becomes longer that what i had initially drawn, (the lines that shoot out of the dot or point as you curve a line, they are blue)
  23. How about implementing a Illustrator like capability to quickly reposition the anchor point with holding spacebar? It adds so much speed to pen tool and should be an easy implement!
  24. Hi there! Does anybody else have experienced the following? I drew a straight line with the pen tool, with a round cap on it. When I expand the stroke it gets really curvy and not like how it suppose to be like when I drew with the pen. You can see it in the image attached, the bottom line is still an stroke and the upper line is expanded. Thanks in advance
