  1. Placing a multi page PDF will suddenly freeze Publisher 2, usually after a few pages have been placed. I can quit or force quit, reopen, save and continue. It will often freeze again and I have to quit or force quit and reopen again. The saved backup file does prevent me from having to start from scratch. This has only recently appeared the last 2 days. It could be Apple's latest updates are causing the issue or something else. I do save often which also reduces loss of my work.
  2. I have a document in Affinity Photo with multiple layers each of which is intended to be a separate page in a PDF which I export. (So, layer1, would be page 1, layer2, page 2 etc.) I haven't been able to find out how to do this yet as I haven't been able to find an option for exporting layers as separate pages in a single PDF document. Is there a way to do this, please?
  3. I have been using PagePlus for some years very happily and am assessing whether Affinity is suitable as a replacement. However, I have found that although PagePlus produces PDFs which accurately match the input images, with Affinity there is a major issue. I attach the original colour swatch I wished to use for the background to the page, and a PDF produced when this was placed in an Affinity file and then output as a PDF. The colours are completely different. For this project it is vital that colours are accurate. NER green.tif NER book covers v2.pdf
  4. Hi everyone, I am completely new to Publisher; I never used illustrator. I bought publisher because I wanted to support Serif, but I am wondering if I can use it to replace what I am doing in Adobe Acrobat. I currently use Acrobat Pro to create print ready PDFs of comic books. I really dont need any other acrobat functions and am trying to ditch it. Typically, I will generate a CMYK .tiff with the resolution/dpi desired, then import these into Acrobat. Acrobat takes on the res/DPI of the tif files and just assembles it into a PDF for me. Can Publisher do this? My main obstacle is that I don't see how to import images. I can manually open a tif in Publisher using right click, but besides that I am stuck when I want to add more pages. If I go to Document > Add Pages from File it greys out my tif files. I also have Designer, so if I am using the wrong solution here I am always open to ideas 🙂
  5. trying to make pdf files for business card 12 up like I used to do with page Plus. Does the Affinity publish capable of doing such???
  6. As the title says, when I try to create, delete or rename a preset through More ▸ Manage Presets option in the Export dialogue box, it is greyed out and unavailable. This happens in Publisher, Photo and Designer, all versions 1.9.0, on an iMac running 10.14.6. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
  7. I want to create a PDF with an active, moving GIF. I know it's possible with InDesign. How about with Affinity Publisher? Deciding which program to buy. Thanks, Meowface Sam
  8. Which PDF setting renders body type the best? I regularly produce a 26 page brochure using Affinity Publisher. NONE of the AP PDF settings would render really crisp small type. The closest I got to an acceptable result was creating my own custom settings with No Downsampling. It is acceptable, but not really crisp (see the page sample I have attached to this question). I hate to say it, but the PDF renderings I used to get with InDesign were always crisp. I think that is because InDesign PDF's included a setting option to "Include All Fonts". What can I do to make sure all fonts are included with my AP PDF's? Is there something I am not understanding? Can anyone help me please? — FYI, I am using a MacBook Pro with 27" Apple display. 9. This is to follow up earlier questions about using Affinity Publisher documents for books printed via MagCloud. Making the template hasn't been difficult. The unknown information (so far) has to do with the PDF settings. MagCloud has instructions for InDesign but none for Affinity Publisher. I see from other threads that there are people here with experience producing books on MagCloud. I would be much obliged for feedback about this if your time permits. The rest of the post concerns MagCloud's recommendations for InDesign's PDF export settings. The comment I'll add below it contains my guesses about PDF export from Publisher. Settings here are in order of their appearance in the MagCloud instructions. InDesign options for which there don't seem to be equivalents in Affinity Publisher are marked "**" below. (I'm using v. 1.8.2 for Windows.) Pages: All Spreads option: Disabled ** Created tagged PDF: Disabled [But so far PDFs I've exported from Publisher don't seem to be tagged] Export Layers: "Visible and Printable Layers" Hyperlinks: Include [optional] ** Include interactive elements: Disabled For both color and greyscale images: Bicubic downsampling to 300 ppi for images above 300 ppi Compression: JPEG Image quality: High [presumably meaning 80+] For monochrome images: ** Bicubic downsampling to 1200 ppi for images above 1800 ppi ** Compression: CCITT Group 4 The instructions draw particular attention to these next two options, which don't appear in the Publisher export dialog: ** Compress text and line art: Enabled ** Crop image data to frames: Enabled Compatibility: Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) Bleed: Include Color conversion: None Profile Inclusion Policy: "Include RGB and all tagged S..." [The screen shot does not display the full setting.] Fonts: Subset fonts when percentage of characters used is less than: 0% All security features appear to be disabled.
  10. A couple of quick questions: I imported an MS Word10 pdf file with over 130 pages with "minor" problems. a. Numerous words are missing space bands. b. Upon editing the above text, the justification on the line blows out the right margins. c. It seems that any hyphened words get "spelling error" underscore. Q1: Are there any "quick solutions" for the above a-c items, since this is a novel that I'm trying to reformat so that it looks nicer. (These errors are extensive.) Otherwise, the conversion is on the money! Great presentation on Publisher today! Q2: Is Publisher able to import raw MS Word10 .docx files? Or is that on the "wish list?"
  11. My problem with text in PDF imports into APub persists in this latest beta version (1.7.0.384) when importing a PDF with graphics and a text box into APub (PDF was made via ADesigner). As you see in my examples, often the text is not rendered correctly when importing the AD-made PDF into APub. The AD-PDF is perfect but the text become a problem when imported into APub. The first snap below is an example of the text *after* imported into APub. The second is the AD-PDF stand alone before importing.
  12. Hello, I am using a medium italic Orkney font at the beginning of a section and regular Orkney for the rest. The document has existed from before the 1.7.0.376 update. Now, although it looks fine visually (some italic and the rest regular) Publisher claims they are both medium italic. Furthermore, when I export to PDF, the regular comes out fine but the words that really are italic come out as gibberish. For example, the words "Front endsheet" come out as "Htqpv gpf uj ggv"! With another font, Lobster Two, an extra character appeared in the PDF. They used to print out fine. Is this a bug or am I failing to do something? Robin
  13. Hello, How do you print a spread directly from Publisher? Can someone give me a good reference to printing, one that covers printing spread, doing imposition, how selecting specific attributes (like bleed or no bleed, trim marks etc.) affects the (seemingly) endless options on the Export to PDF drop down etc. I am having a very hard time printing my work. I did manage to print pages successfully but just can't manage to get good spreads when I have to go through creating a pdf first. (I do make use of soft-proofing, use an NEC PA271Q monitor (that I keep well-calibrated) a Canon PRO-100 printer, Red River Ultra Pro Satin 4.0 with the appropriate ICC profile.) The printing I need right now is for an Exhibition taking place in Scotland in April, so this is (for me) a very serious problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Robin
  14. I've been having trouble with using artboards to create multi-page documents. Somehow the order of the pages is getting shuffled while I'm working, and when I go to export the whole document the pages aren't numbered sequentially anymore. I then have to create a whole new document carefully copying & pasting each page before exporting again. What am I doing to make the page orders get mixed up? Can I fix it without creating a whole new document? See my screen shot, although displaying correct on the screen, ordered as artboards 1, 2, 3, - when exporting, the artboards are shuffled to 1,3,2
  15. Plain and simply, we need interactive PDFs, buttons galore! Easy email embedding would be a lovely feature too.
  16. Hello, I am experiencing strange behaviour with images exported as a PDF. I also need to have crop marks and registration marks. The biggest problem is with images when I export as a PDF. Some of the images, but NOT all, come out very faded. Some are jpgs, some tiffs, all use the same ICC profile and the same color space. It is much better if I use the PDF (for print) preset. However, when I use that I can't get crop marks and this is essential for my purpose. Firstly, I don't understand why some of the images come out fine and others don't. Can anyone explain? Secondly, is there a way that I can get the equivalent of what happens with the "for print" preset but with crop marks? Thanks, Robin
  17. Hi, just downloaded Affinity Publisher Beta , (been waiting a long time for this release) and there is not the ability to create Hyperlinked pdf's, not sure if this is because it is a Beta or not, but in my workflow I regularly publish Hyperlinked PDF's and this would be a fundamental feature for me and many others . At the moment I do this using Keynote and its a great little software, but as I have Designer and Photo and hopefully publisher soon I could contain my whole workflow in the Affinity platform, so please please please include the ability to publish Hyperlinked PDF"s
