  1. When I embedd several AD files into a new AD-file and export this new file as a pdf, the elements obviously are not exported as vector files. Exporting the source files in the same way separately, let me zoom into the pdf file without the fonts getting pixalated. Is this a bug or how can I set AD to treat the embedded files as vector files? Thanks
  2. Congratulations on creating this app. I just started testing it and it shows great promise. I look forward to working through the Beta release. I usually use Pixelmator (or Ps) to open and crop a pdf of a piece of sheet music to prepare for publishing it in a document. It opens fine in PXM with transparent background but in Afp musical elements are misplaced (key signature and notes) and no transparency. Are there limits presently or other criteria a pdf must meet for opening correctlly? Steve
  3. Hi, there. 1. Is there any way to export all layers as PDF ? 2. Or, any shortcut key to export file to PDF ? thanks
  4. Does Affinity allow the importing of multiple-page PDF documents? If so, will it simply export the multi-paged document the same way it came in?
  5. Hello! I'm not quite sure where to post this, but I couldn't find anything about it, so here goes: I'm making a logo to be printed as a car sticker, and it has a lot of gradients and some line pressure going on. Client requested that I give it to them as an eps, but unchecking "rasterize gradients" meant that anything with transparency became completely solid. - this using the Beta. I then tried saving as a pdf, which did preserve the look, but rasterized all transparent objects, and removed the line pressure simulation. I opened these files both by using "open..." and "place" in Affinity Designer, and the results were the same. Same thing as the pdf happened when copy-pasting into indesign. Is it even possible to have this kind of transparency in an eps or pdf? And line pressure? Or do these effects have to be rasterized? (Screenshots explaining are linked in the text.) I'm new to using vectors, so sorry if this has a very obvious answer. :) EDIT: And now all the affinity designer files I output are corrupted :/ EDIT: None of the png or eps files i output can be opened by photoshop because it cannot "parse the postscript" or "parse the file." Is this an affinity problem?
  6. When exporting to PDF, some content gets rasterized (which is not desired). Please, see the attached afdesign file - when exporting to PDF, the result is 25 x 25 px raster. Also, in this file, selection cannot be exported at all. If you select some of the curves (fishes) and export as "Selection without background", the resulting PDF seems to contain no curves, neither raster. Another bug seems to be here with the "Erase" rectangle - if this rectangle is selected along with other curves (fishes), it gets exported ("Selection without background") as standard, visible rectangle (without the "Erase" style). I'm not sure I can identify the real "culprit" - whether is it the "container" rectangle, or the "Erase" rectangle, but the fact is that without further editing, flattening and applying boolean operations, this icon is not exportable properly to PDF. reasterized_export.afdesign
  7. If I create a text block and give it a drop shadow that text block will get rasterized if I export the file to PDF. That reduces the quality of the PDF significantly (no sharp edges, text not selectable). Is that normal or will that change in a later version of Affinity Designer? Also shapes with certain gradients (elliptical, conical) get rasterized without a vector clipping path. That means the shape no longer has a sharp edge. Will that change? Thank you! :) Rasterization.afdesign Rasterization.pdf
  8. He everybody! I imported a pdf file that was created in Adobe InDesign. This pdf was intended for professional printing purposes. Unfortunately InDesign separated most of the objects to small areas, so instead of some objects there are hundreds of areas next to each other. Between adjacent areas there are white lines visible. These white lines represent the zero-pixel-boarders of the objects and are always visible, no matter which zoom setting (10% or 100000%) In Acrobat reader the lines can (visually) be reduce be disabling anti-aliasing in preferences. Is there any option to reduce those lines, at least for new image exports (png / jpg) that are made out of AD? Thanks for your help, H-Nes
  9. Hi, i made the design for the cover of my first CD in AD. I have to export it in PDF for printing. I can't find a way to do that, no parameters in the PDF export menu. Can somebody tell me how to do, if possible ?
  10. I have a very small Logo - a colored rectangle with some white letters on it. So far so good. Filesizes: Designer = 1.5 mb PDF = 1.4 mb (text in curves or as font, doesn't matter) EPS = 45 kb (smallest size is the same) Same thing as I do a new doc with a simple colored area an some text on it. I think the EPS-size is worth the true estimated filesize here. But the AD and PDF filesize is so much more, is it overhead, just not compressed, or ...? And can I do something about this? Or will we gain more controll over PDF specific adjustments with the prepress overhaul? I tried also to open the exportet PDF in Illustrator and save it as standrd .ai format = 3.1 mb filesize - wow! Then I tried the EPS in Illustrator and saved it as standraf .ai format file = 95 kb. Bigger as the original but also ok. Same thing with all files I do. It seems that AD provides larger PDF files than others. This is difficult for me caus size always matters ;) See screenshot for difference.
  11. Hello all, how can I make the PDF export save my project as multipage pdf with one page for each layer I have? That is useful when I send files for printing, my two layers are front and rear views. Actually, my workaround is save the two layers in separate pdf files, then I will merge the two files using another tool. Andrea
  12. Hey guys, just playing around with the Photo Beta, and run into a problem/question :) I have a PDF file with photos, curves and fonts. It will be opened in Photo and splittet into different layers for text, photos, ... Is there an option to open a PDF and convert it directly to a flat color-bitmap? In Photoshop I have the option to convert a file directly to CMYK-, RGB-bitmap in the opening dialogue. And if I export the page to JPG and give it a size like 1000 x 500 px, and do the same export in Photoshop the size is always different. In Photoshop i see the size is 1000 x 500 px with 72 ppi (and I can modify this value), and in Photo I always get 1000 x 500 with 300-386 ppi and the filesize is much bigger. For print the exportet JPGs are well, but for the web to large. Or am I doing something completly wrong?! I hope you understand what I mean. Sometimes it is difficult to explain here in english. secretly looking for the german Affinity board ;)

Quick (very) Cheatsheet of the available shortcuts. This is lifted straight from the "Help" section. For those who like to pin it to a physical wall - might help a few people get up and running. Affinity Designer Shortcuts.pdf
  14. In AD the text looks fine however when exported to PDF, JPEG or PNG it appears rasterised. Is this a problem with the programme or something I'm overlooking? Project and PDF attached. TEA.afdesign TEA.pdf
  15. The question is in the title... is PDF / SVG export functionality fully implemented? I ask because in my test cases I'm seeing gradients, and shapes with effects getting clipped + rasterized rather then being fully editable gradients + effects. Ideally any effects should use SVG filters when exported. This was always a problem I had with DrawPlus. I often had to export out at really high DPI to remove any gradient dithering, and import it into Illustrator where I vectorized the rasterized portions. The results I'm getting right now are disappointing. Though the PNG export from a large vector files is incredibly fast, and clean. Nice work there.
  16. Affinity Designer is fantastic. Not because I'm a great drawer or illustrator. I'm printing and prepress professional and in the past week I have had two times where it Illustrator or Indesign could not take an existing PDF and deal with the file right. Designer was able to bring in the PDF and let us alter it to get the vector logo out. I do this regularly but I usually don't get errors importing into Illustrator but I did on this one and Designer saved us. Today a font was not embedded in a PDF that someone created in Corel. We were able to install the font on the Mac, open the PDF in Affinity, adjust a little bit because the person did a poor job designing and resaved - the ad came out perfect! I'm looking forward to the page layout program with how well Designer is working.
  17. Hi everyone. I've just recently started using the trial version of AD, thinking about ending my CC subscription and moving over from Illustrator. The main thing I use Illustrator for is designing newspaper ads in work which have multiple images. When sending the final file to the papers I export the PDF with the Adobe PDF Preset set to 'Print Quality' which reduces the file size down to around 2mb. I'm wondering is there anyway to change the PDF settings when exporting files from AD. The ad I'm working on is exporting as a 11mb file, the same file exported from Illustrator is 2.7mb. Thanks in advance and I must say I'm really liking the app so far!
  18. Hi there, here i am again with another question... I´m trying to import a work i´ve done with Corel Draw into the AD. The only way i though i could do it was by creating a Pdf or even a Postscript file. The fact is that i can import them into my art board, but i´m not able to edit it. Is the a way i can access individually each object within the file?
  19. I'm exporting PDFs from AP and pulling into a Quark Xpress doc. All looks good in preview. However, when creating a further PDF for print/screen from Quark (300 dpi) all Affinity's PDFs are unusable. Even as a screen document it's not usable. Is there a way to set the PDF quality when exporting from AP?
  20. Hey guys, loving the program with each illustration I work on, but I have had this issue with 2 different files, when I export my pdf it looked really pixelated, blurry and doesn't look like it was made with a vector program, giving me a really blurred look once I printed it out. My work around was exporting an eps, opening it with illustrator, saving it as a pdf from illustrator and printing, and I still had some little details looking blurred cartel_1.pdf
  21. Hi Affinity. I typically use Illustrator for annotating scientific figures made in Matlab (e.g.). When I import .ps and .eps files into AD, the text is not imported as text, but as curves. Is this a result of the way the .ps files are generated or something specific to AD? As a note, when I import these same files to other programs (Illustrator, Preview) the text is treated as words (Art Text in AD vernacular). Note the selected '0' within '5500'. I would expect the whole of '5500' to be a single element.
  22. Hello! Congratulations for this great app! A feature I still miss is export to PDF/X-3 for professional printing. I have read in some blogs that the final version of Affinity Designer supports export to PDF/X-3. Well I bought the Mac App Store version, but unfortunately I can not find the export to PDF/X-3 :( When will this function be shipped? Greetings from Germany (sorry for my bad english)! Christian
  23. I'm excited to hear about potential feature set for Affinity Publisher as a long time Adobe Indesign and Acrobat user (still using CS6 and refuse to jump on the CC bandwagon). First, I wondered if there were plans to have Affinity Publisher act also as a complete or partial Acrobat replacement. For example, often I will need to rotate scanned pages from a photocopier, extract or delete pages, crop, make annotations (grading academic work, for example), creation of fillable forms and drawing markups etc. all in the native PDF format. Being able to open a full (or partial) multi-page PDF using the document's existing page size would be excellent for quick editing. Second, an annoyance and possible solution to a over-complicated workflow in Indesign. I often create artwork for music CDs and use pre-existing templates from replication factories. They tend to use one layer to show guidelines for text safety regions etc. Once the artwork builds up and I'm trying place various graphics and text within the guides, it would be great to be able to quickly make all layers more transparent with one key toggle so that I can easily see the underlying guides and line things up. Right now, I have to click on objects, click on transparency then use the slider to make more transparent. Then the same again to return to print look. Make sense? It's frustrating right now...maybe I'm just missing a key Indesign feature. Finally, I assume Publisher will include Pantone, spot colors and varied PDF output options including booklet creation? Would be great to have advanced imposition options including number of sheets per signature etc. to cater for simple small booklets (a la OS X create booklet service) to big thick manuals requiring 1 sheet per signature ( a la Cheap Imposter). Thanks!
  24. The website says: Full support for AI, PSD, PDF and SVG files gives you all the flexibility you need and means whether you switch to Affinity Designer for all your work, or just elements of what you do, it's completely painless. but for the love of god, I cannot open a PDF file in the Affinity Designer. Am I doing something wrong? Agatha
