  1. Hi, The PDF import is great, except I often get PDFs without their respective fonts, and rather than have to pass them back and ask, or get them outlined, it'd be nice if we had the option to just import the flattened pages, like Photoshop can. This is something I don't see in a lot of packages, and it would be a really useful feature for me. Thanks, Mike
  2. Hello I recently bought the affinity designer, I had to export a PDF. file after finishing with the illustration... No matter on default or altered settings within the export properties, I was unable to succeed in exporting any form of PDF available in Affinity. Can anyone shed some light on whether its a bug or anything I might be doing wrong? N.B. First I tried to export my resume/Portfolio that maid me doubt if it because it contains some files such as JPEG, Text, Tiff, from previous Illustrator program, But I redrew some other vector art from scratch on Affinity, same Problem. Thank you for your time. Cheers
  3. Hello there, I work in AD. The software is great, thanks for that. I need to export to PDF or SVG or EPS, does not matter to me ... including layers, that I could open the file in Adobe Illustrator and could see the layers. I was trying to find out on affinity forum, but I was not successful. Is there a way to do that please? Unfortunately, exporting to PDF does not do the job. Nothing is rasterized and after opening in illustrator there is just one layer instead of 3 created in AD. And what more, there are separated objects, the ones with fill and the ones with strokes. I mean, in AD it is an object with fill and stroke and after exporting to PDF and opening in AI these are two different objects, one with stroke and one with fill. I don't know why is that ? Thanks for help. I attached a file. 1100235_58_ultra_terno.afdesign
  4. Reading the AD forums regarding the ability to create multi-page documents is unlikely to happen as this would be a feature for Publisher when it is released. But what about the ability to export to PDF docs that are open in Designer to create a multi-page document. I am working on a two sided and four sided spread and while building each page in Designer is relatively simple, getting the PDF's created for the print shop is a regal pain. But if there was a PDF export option where would select "all open file" that would do the job as well as not infringing too deeply on the Publisher design goals. The same logic could also be applied to Photo as well. Possibility? MK
  5. I simply want to import a PDF file as shown below. I do not want to edit text, I only want it as an image. Is this possible? Can someone help me by telling me how it's done? PDF before import: PDF after import: Best regards!
  6. Hi! I am new to the Affinity forum, and also to the programs, but I seem to have found a problem no one posted yet, and it would be important for me to be solved (or for me to be shown a solution). I want to import a .pdf file, that was written by whatever software, and it contains texts, that were neither rasterized, nor converted to curves (outlined). When I open the .pdf in Adobe Reader, it shows all fonts as they should be. When I import it in Photoshop, it is able to rasterize the fonts correctly. When I import the .pdf file in AP it asks me what to prefer: keeping texts (and losing font properties), or losing texts (but keeping graphics unchanged). This button does not seem to do what it proposes to do. I do not need to edit texts, but I need the opened graphics to look exactly like they do in Adobe Reader, so I opened with the "favor editable text over fidelity" unticked (and also "replace missing fonts" option unticked). Yet the opened graphics is full of editable texts, and the missing fonts are replaced. Do you know about this issue? Is there a solution planned? Am I doing something wrong? (I attached the file that I tried with. Enough to import the first page.) Thank you for your answer, and sorry if I violated any forum guidelines, let me know what to do differently next. Best Regards, Tamás Handbook_For_Facilitators_Learning_To_Learn_June_2012.pdf
  7. Hi I would like to be able to convert a pdf (made form InDesign or Scribus) into a Afiinity Publisher file. That would be awesome! Also interesting: converting or importing Scribus files into Affinity Publisher. Both features would release me from InDesign and Scribus completely! Ton
  8. Hi, I'm fairly new to using Affinity Designer after switching over from Adobe Illustrator. I am basically working on a document which has vector/JPEG objects inserted. It is intended for print, but I would also require a digital version for web purposes. When I export the document as a PDF for print at 300dpi, it seems fine; the JPEG images look sharp as well as the vectors (just as everything looks when working on the document at 100% scale). But when I export the same document as a PDF for web at 72dpi, all of my vectors are nice and sharp, the document is the right size, but my JPEG images become extremely pixelated. I've attached a snippet from an exported web PDF. Document information: Type: Print Page Preset: A3 300DPI Any ideas as to why this might be happening?
  9. Hello all, I've been using Affinity Designer for the past couple of weeks and, liking it so far, I'd like to use it as my main illustration / design tool. On a recent project where I decided to ditch other tools in favour of the Affinity suite (so far), I've run into an issue exporting pdf files to send to the print shop (press or prepress ready): Can Designer export radial gradients in CMYK to pdf? I've tried using the Export tool, selecting PDF, without rasterising anything or compressing images, using 300dpi (document resolution) and embedded or selected colour profiles, but I still can't get a radial gradient to show. The only way to do it is allowing for gradient rasterisation, which affects vector fidelity. Is this a program bug to be worked on in future updates, or am I doing something wrong? *EDIT: I've just read on another thread that this is an issue with radial gradients with more than 2 colour stops, and attached a file to illustrate the problem. I'm sorry for duplicating content. Best regards, R. Radial Gradient Test.afdesign
  10. Is there such a guide to download. In the store maybe? As a beginner I find my self going screen blind after spending so much time going between the online help menu and my project. It would be nice to have a hard copy and maybe there is one and I'm just missing it. To be able to read through certain sections away from the computer would be beneficial in my case. Obviously I know I could load and shoot the sections in the help menu, just thought I'd inquire. Thanks anyone,,,
  11. I see this behaviour happening in the MAS version of Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, and the RC1 of Affinity Photo. The instances of text characters "ti" are omitted from this paragraph when opening this particular PDF - it is consistent across the Affinity apps, but Pixelmator works fine, I saved it to a TIF from Pixelmator, and got my work finished in Affinity, but thought it was worth mentioning.
  12. I cannot export to PDF in this purchased version nor could I in the various Beta versions I used. See the attached error message. I've tried all the various export to PDF format options and none work. 2016-11-26_20-53-15.pdf
  13. Hello! I hope down the road there will be an option to make editable text areas of PDFs that have been exported from Affinity Designer. It would be awesome to send my clients PDFs that they could then change their names, etc by clicking on an editable text area. This feature would also be good to have for Affinity Publisher too. I found this topic made by another user who is requesting the same kind of thing: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/18110-creating-an-editable-pdf/ Thanks!
  14. When opening a multi-page PDF, it puts each page into a separate layer titled "Page X", Once finished working on that file, would it be possible to re-save it as a PDF with the same page structure?
  15. Couldn't find an answer through my search for this - I'm sending a book cover design over to a publisher and have some issues (apparently) Book: 5.25"x8" Margin: 0.25" Bleed: 0.125" Create Artboard: Demensions: 11"x8.25" Guides: 0.375 (TBLR) (No option to create Bleeds) Setup Bleed in Document Settings: 0.125" (TBLR) Export: Include Bleed Include Printer Markers Trim Markers show up at edges not Bleed Positions. Can you guys Help? Attached is a screenshot of the PDF after export - (the Red and Yellow are just Overlays I made Red=Bleed Yellow equals Margin) TIA
  16. There is a bug with DPI settings in the Export Settings dialog: DPI settings are ambiguous after selecting a preset. I've written about this before. Here is how to reproduce it: Open the Export Settings dialog. Click SVG or PDF (I've tested these two formats only). Create a preset (if you still don't have one). Select your custom preset. Select 96 DPI in the DPI drop-down. Now choose another preset, say SVG for export. This will change Raster DPI to 300. Select 96 DPI again. Nothing happens. So... will I get 96 or 300 dpi? I hope this explanation is clear.
  17. I have imported a PDF file to my art board but the text in that PDF file does not display. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.
  18. Hi. I've created some icons in a separate Affinity file which I have simply copy pasted into an artwork file which is to be exported as a PDF. These icons are being rasterised on export, which is a problem. I understand that this is likely a limitation of the PDF format - not handling some of the techniques used to create the icons, but is there a way I can 'flatten' the icons without losing fidelity? This is the first piece of actual work I've attempted in Affinity and aside from this issue I'm loving it. Thanks.
  19. * Standard Disclaimer/Apology if this is a 'Me Too' request * I work with plan and design based PDFs and I use AD to manipulate objects within the PDF file. Sometimes I get A1 or A0 size designs spread across multiple A4 pages in a single PDF file and I would like AD to automate laying them out in a grid within a single page of a document. For example, 10 page PDF in A4 format making up a design 5 pages wide by 2 pages tall. Each page has a 10mm border all round. I want to be able to tell AD that the layout is 5 x 2 with a 10mm overlap and hey presto! its done. (I could imagine the same functionality being useful for a folder full of photos) Mark
  20. Hello community! How can I place a specific page of a PDF into Affinty Designer? If I place it with File>Place I can’t find import options. The only way I found, is opening the embedded file and deleting all other Artboards, which is a real pain in the *** and half of the time it didn’t work. I would also appreciate to place all pages or a range of pages. thanks for your answers :)
  21. I'm experiencing some issues with exported PDFs and display of fonts in AD 1.5.0.19 When I export the document with the WEB setting, fonts are rasterised when in groups where layer FX is applied to ANY object within the group. (See attached Leaflet for WEB) If I select the PRINT profile, occasionally fonts disappear entirely, also (I think) related to being grouped with other layers. (See attached Leaflet for PRINT) I've also attached the original file for you to look at. I removed raster images from the file to make it quicker to upload, otherwise it was 35MB! 22. Every time I open a pdf generated by matplotlib, Affinity Designer asks me to replace fonts, then thing look different. I tried following the instructions here to use True Type fonts, but it doesn't fix the problem. Attached file was generated with fonttype=42, and it still tries to replace the fonts. difference_normalized_absorption_moving_avg_font42.pdf
  23. Hi I am wanting to creating a PDF downloadable walking tour and map and would like to know if it is possible to create a PDF with a vertical as well as a horizontal swipe. eg. At the moment I have 10 pages that swipe from left to right which is great, but having to constantly move back to the page with the map on it is a pain, even with a link on each page to get you back to it. What I am really wanting is to have the 10 pages that exist in a left to right line to also have a map below each page - so in practice wherever the user is on the original ten page horizontal 'timeline' they can swipe up and see the map, because there is the same map repeated in the 10 pages below the original ten pages - I hope this makes sense. My question is can this be done using Affinity to design the pages and then exported as a PDF or do I need to,consider some other software' if I do what? Many thanks in advance for any help on this.
  24. Hi, I came across a strange mistake. I'll start from the beginning. I'm working on a brochure, with bend in the middle , so I started doing it in final form (that how it's should look like). I thought that i can join it through the export persona and converted to pdf and with bleeds and crop marks like here ( ). However, when i combine the two artboards, the bleed disappear after export. So I decided to dived the pages manually by the squares and then reoorder the pages for the finall print. But when i copy the pages each half has a different color. When I give duplicate, so it will not. I do not know if it's a bug in the program or just an incorrect settings or using affinity. Thanks for the reply. I hope this is not too confusing post :) PS: look at the attached file. It's quire obvious that each half has different color.
  25. Is it possible to select a specific page when I place a pdf in AD? Now I got no dialogue box and all the pages are grouped in one big layer. Thanks !
