  1. I've a design going to print but because of the process involved I have been asked to separate fine line content (small text and thin lines) from filled areas (polygons) and assign them to two separate spot colours, even though they are printed using the same colour. In AD I can set up two different spot colours referencing the same Pantone colour from the swatches, name them differently and assign them to the associated objects in the design. However, when I come to export it seems that the same (first) colour is used for both groups of objects. Honour Spot Colours is checked in the export settings. So, is this a limitation of the PDF format (I'm guessing not as I wouldn't have expected the printer to ask for this), or just how the export works trying to consolidate colours? Any thoughts on the correct way to do this? (My "safety net" is to tweak one of the colours slightly but instruct the printer to ignore the preview colour and use the same Pantone reference for them both).
  2. Hi, I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but the file size issues in some PDF export options are back in the beta from 11 December -- all the exports I make are MUCH bigger than I expect them to be; The previous beta was better in this regards. Please don't answer this with any well-meant tips on how to decrease a PDF file size -- this is just a beta report, because it seems to me that an issue that had been resolved has crept back into the newest beta.
  3. I'm trying to modify (another) PDF artwork file created in AI. The file doesn't import correctly but doesn't show any errors. In an attempt to figure out what was happening I found out that exporting the result back to a PDF also causes an error and fails to create any file - other than flatten which doesn't help in my case. I enabled debug and found this in the resulting log file: [Last exception 1404 in PDF_shading]["Option 'stopcolors' has too many values (> 500)"] I'm wondering if this provides any clues as to what might be wrong. I can't provide the original artwork as this is confidential. The file contains a background image with a repeating pattern which I think might be the culprit as it imports as a stretched image and not evenly spaced at the original size that you see using Acrobat Reader . I don't have access to AI where I am to check any of this at the moment. Any thoughts? (Affinity Designer 1.8.5 for Windows) The 1.9 beta also behaves in the same manner.
  4. Hi, everythime I do export to pdf, I get an error. "an error occured while exporting to". At first I thought it had to do with some preflight errors, but I took out all images that had an error. I found on this forum the hint to set the text 'to curves' in the 'more options' while exporting and that seemed to work, but not with good quality. The only thing that is still red in the preflight is 1 missing font, which is supposedly on the Master page, but I can't find it. When I double-click on the error of the missing font, it doesn't show up in the font manager. Could this missing font (ciutadella) be the error? or something else...
  5. Greetings Team So I was making a nice glow behind some text by creating a gradient in a circle and then making it oval by scaling it down on the vertical axis. It looks great in app but when I export it forces the gradient back to a round shape which looks odd. I understand PDF may not support distorted or oval gradients but then it should be rasterized properly before it exports. In app... in PDF (CMYK conversion so the colour is different)... Thanks for your review on this.
  6. I have created a journal using text autoflow within a two-page master. The first file I did was fine. But the second one will not export to PDF without crashing at around 3% and dropping out of Publisher. It has 121 pages, and the autoflow runs over a two page 'week' for the diary. There are also other text autoflows for the months and dates throughout the document, but not within the masters. There are no graphics other than on the first page, and it is all in black and white (not that that should make any difference). Any ideas on how to fix this would be gratefully received? 🙂 Jayne Willingale
  7. Hello, I don't seem to be able to export a very simple affinty designer document (a few lines and text) to a pdf. It works if I export it to jpg, but when I try to export it as a pdf ("for print" preset), it says "An error occurred while exporting to: *folder/name_of_thefile* I've tried on 2 different computers, and also with a new file where I copy-pasted the elements of the first file and it's getting quite frustrating... how can I fix it ? 1MOS_exo_05_01_Ligne_temps_A4_v2.afdesign
  8. I am layouting a portfolio in Publisher. I have setup the documents color space for Adobe RGB (set to convert in document setup) and all imported photos are Adobe RGB color space as well. I have a color calibrated monitor capable of showing almost 100% of Adobe RGB color space and photos are looking as they should in the Publisher Document. The issue arise when exporting the Publisher document to PDF using Shift+Ctrl+Alt+S command. When choosing either PDF for print or PDF for web I have tried all combinations of the color space and ICC settings in the menu option "more" and it always change the colors in the PDF compared to the colors in Publisher when I view the file in Adobe Reader. This does not happen when printing (CTRL+P) the publisher document to a PDF using either Microsofts PDF or Bullzip (software PDF printer). Can anyone tell me what I might have overlooked or doing worng?
  9. As I search the forum, this very severe difficulty/bug makes my migration to APu miserable. I just have startet to built up a layout for a municipal periodical. I'm in typesetting since over 25 years, using Mac, .indd and my standard fonts (like "Berthold Akzidenz Grotesk"), system admin. The test-layout consists of 5 pages with text starting at page 2-3 with text frames chained up by hand and one text frame for a picture captation. There are a lot of tests with other fonts (to get optimized space requirement for the lot of text, later in the final issue) and intense work with styles ... As I export that test file to PDF/X-3 or -4 the 5th or 6th time, I get the note: The file <path and name.pdf> could not be written" (or created?. I use a German version). What a horror, if that occurs 2 days befor printing!? - this is the second time, I run into that "no go". - may be, this occurs if one has a text overflow (in a not-linked text frame)? Even, if you repair that by linking that text frame with a next one on the next page? - is APu addicted to postscript printer drivers? I have a Xerox printer with original Adobe Postscript (oh, dear ...) and the last days I updated it. Failure despite or because that update? - may be, there is an inconvenience with fonts, which have an "embedding flag"? In all my decades of (Mac) praxis, I *never* had been confronted with that nonsense. But now with APu? >> There can be any bug in a new publishing software, but PDF export has to run under any circumstances and whatever barbwire a user has filled into his layout. An PDF export has to go (may be, not a good PDF, but anyway one). This reminds me of my times with QuarkXpress: After *weeks* of layout on a catalogue for an art auction house, all the sudden in the morning Quark tells: The file couldn't be opened ...! (ahgrrr) "Any help is appreciated" Thanks, Johannes
  10. Hi all, When I export my file as PDF some of the elements become barely visible. I tried many export combinations without avail. The text has a Color Overlay, not sure if this is the culprit. This is how it looks in Designer: And this is how it looks in Acrobat: Cheers, Juan
  11. I'm finding that when a PDF export preset is saved and the settings include Area: Pages — when the preset is used the next time the setting has reverted to Spreads, not pages. Should the user-created preset not store all possible settings in this dialog?
  12. I have a serious issue with the pdf-export from AD (as well as from AP). When I export my (rather large) image, the result seems to be heavy compressed though AD is set to not do so (see Screenshots). Do export the same file from AP, the image ist nice crisp and sharp, but the curves (Outlines) get rastered too an there is the bug of the not matching alpha channel which experienced already two years ago too... Designer Version 1.8.0.526 / Photo Version 1.8.1.604 This is the image in AD (left) and the exported PDF (right) Here the same file exported from AP, note the by far higher image quality (this is how it should look like) using the same export settings: That's the not matching alpha channel in the exported pdf from AP:
  13. Affinity Photo PDF Export No Bueno No matter which DPI setting I select, the export takes over 2 minutes, and the output file is always the same large size and high resolution. At this point I'm having to use third part software to create reasonably small PDFs from Exported PNG files, and this seems quite silly. My Affinity Photo file size does seem quite large (33,572 KB) as the the initial images I started with were on the order of only 4,000 KB I am running Version 1.7.3.481 an it was freshly installed within the last month or so. Has anyone encountered this? Has anyone solved it?
  14. I got a blank sheet for pdf output. Could anyone give me advice how to avoid this? Thank you! Regards HK LI
  15. Greetings, and good evening ... after searching for about four hours now for a solution for my problem ... I've come here, really hpoing, someone can help me with this. So ... I made a flyer for print, with all three programs, Affinity Photo (for picture editing and converting them into CYMK, after the original try to export the PDF directly from RGB into a CMYK file), Affinity Designer (first try to design the flyer, with the result of a "red tinted" pdf) and Affinity Publisher (same result). I can't seem to get the right result after exporting the file into a printable pdf. Always got that red tint, and frankly, after trying for about four hours, I'm done ... with this *PEEP* programs. I searched the internet for a solution of that problem. The screenshot shows the difference between the look of the file in Affinity Designer and in browser or pdf viewer. The file looks more "yellowish" in AD. I've also opened the settings, with which I run the program. As I wrote, I'm really done with this ... *peep* ... really. I've had the same problems when exporting to jpg files ore other files as well. Colours seem way off sometimes and I've read every topic about this as I could. There seem to be others, with the same problems. Maybe someone out there knows whats off? Best Regards Mel
  16. As I reported in this post for Affinity Photo 1.7.1 already, Affinity Photo (and Affinity Publisher) still completely ignore Live-Filters on PDF Export. Huge workflow killer.
  17. Since the early beta Versions I encounter very low rendering quality while exporting a setup with a gradient image and some overlays. If I just "print" it into a PDF it looks formidable so it is not a problem of PDF itself. It would be good to be able to export natively via the export option an not going via the print2pdf option. See files attached please. This happens in all PDF Quality Settings. Colorspace for Export and ICC Profile is "as in Document".
  18. Hi Support, May I ask, whether Allow advanced features when exporting to PDF is gone in Affinity Designer 1.7.2? I thought I saw this version a couple days ago? and now it is gone? Thank you Regards, Ariyani
  19. Affinity Publisher Bug: The attached FontTest.afpub has 8 different fonts -- both serif and sans serif. When exporting to PDF (Export Settings: PDF (for web), 72 dpi, preview...), and the PDF sent via iTunes to with the iDevice's Books application or Acrobat application, font failure happens. We tested an iPhone 7 and 7+ (OS 12.4) and an older iPad (OS 10.3.4). What happens is that the letters ff, fi and others starting with f will not print using several fonts: Verdana, Arial, Georgia, Times New Roman. All works correctly using Garamond, Calibri, Myriad Pro, Adobe Caslon Pro. (We didn't test additional fonts.) All looks correct when the PDF is viewed on a PC, but not on our iPhones or iPads. 20. I am getting some issues with PDF exports when applying Effects (FX) to images under other layers with FX. As you can see from the attached files, the Exported PDF has the bitmap image (with Blur FX applied) 'bleeding' into the effects on higher layers. Once I remove the blur FX from the 'bubbly water' bitmap, the issue disappears. Boiler TEST.afpub Test Export B.pdf Test Export.pdf
  21. Please look at the two screenshots. The left one is the design as laid out in AD, and the right one is the one after the PDF export. You'll notice that the dotted line is messed up. Please investigate and fix. Thanks so much, guys! Helmar
  22. CMYK colors appear dark & dull upon PDF export from Publisher (see Color-differences attached) I set up my document to be convert to CMYK US Web Coated Swap V2. In the color panel I locked colorspace to CMYK. I've tried virtually every combination of PDF export settings, including convert color profile unchecked and then checked. Why is there this discrepancy in colors? Product Excellence Flyer 2.afpub
  23. Hallo, the Live-Filters not working in PDF-Export. Affinity Photo 1.7.1 OSX 10.13.6 Filter PDF-Export
  24. Hello I would like to see an export pdf option to seperate pdfs for each page. I know there are free tools for it to split the pdf afterwards, but I think it would be nice in one step. What do you think?
  25. Quick request - there is an option in the PDF export 'More' section to include page information. This adds a title to each page of the resulting PDF. It would be great to be able to use the artboard names as these titles, rather than <filename>1, <filename>2 etc.
