  1. Hey there! Not sure if this may come in handy or much of use, but it would be a cool feature I haven’t seen in any other App so far (if there are any pleas tell me): I was creating these sort of vines for an illustration in Designer and I tried several ways to create this »overlapping« effect, simulating depth. The vines were created with a regular outline/stroke with some pressure simulation. I then started to destructively split the path into several segments and apply gradients on some parts and place other segments on top (see images, I think you see what I’m talking about). Problem here is it needs further adjustments, cause every time the stroke width is slightly changing – that’s when I came up with the idea of a gradient that follows the form and curves of a stroke from start to end. Not sure if something like this is even possible, but let me now what you think. :) Also if anyone has a more convenient way for something this without necessarily cutting or expanding the stroke – I’m listening. ;) Have a nice weekend Dennis
  2. Hi, I don't know if this is a bug or a Feature Request, I think is a bug, but I'm not sure, so I'm posting here. The fact is that I can't put a brush (like Texture for exemple) in the stroke of a path, like I can do in Affinity Design. In the Stroke panel there is Properties... button that goes to a Brush panel, but it is all locked! I can't use it. Some one know how I can put brushes in a path in Affinity Photo? Thank you, Paulo
  3. I was wondering if Affinity Designer had an option where you can save your svg file with a text element in a way that the text element is saved as a path tag. This would be helpfull for when someone doesn't have the used font.
  4. Hello everyone! I'm brand new to this forum as I just bought Affinity Photo and Designer to replace a couple of Adobe products! I LOVE Affinity but I'm still learning some of the ins and outs. One of the biggest features I loved about photoshop was the ability to use the quick selection wand and then create a path from the selection. This was great because I always use vector masks when cutting out objects and it saves me tons of time, not having to use the pen tool to draw around parts of an object. Vector masks are the best because of the control and percisioun that you can achieve on the edges. I'm hoping Affinity Designer or photo has this function but I didn't see it anywhere. If anyone knows if this is possible, let me know! I'd really appreciate it! I can still make my masks using the pen tool but using a selection would be fantastic! :)
  5. Offsetting paths. Currently I've resorted to expanding the stroke, but the trouble of having to manually having to delete the inner nodes (especially on more complex shapes) can take up a lot of time.
  6. Hey, it would be great to be able to break paths at intersection points. Easiest implementation was something like a boolean operation - select two paths, click a button and get the nicely broken path segments. Feature suggestion 1: Break-paths-at-intersection-points-operation. A workaround is to create new nodes manually and break them individually afterwards. But here I ran into another missing feature. The current behavior of the node-adding doesn't allow me to create new nodes using snapping. Thus my cuts aren't aligned perfectly (I might have exaggerated it a little on the screens). Feature suggestion 2: Use snapping while creating nodes on existing paths. An optimal way would be the option to drag a new node on an existing path to activate candidates to snap onto. [Feature suggestion 3: Combine adding nodes and breaking them like the scissors-tool in Illustrator does. Could be implemented as an option in the node-tool. Similar snapping behavior as described above] ~Andrej PS: I know that I could perform a standard subtract operation in the first place and then break the paths to achieve the result shown in the screens. But I'm adding these requests to improve workflows.
  7. If I open a design from C:\My Pictures\Affinity and export to C:\My Pictures, the next time I try to open a file the path has defaulted to C:\My Pictures\ I would expect the Open and Export paths to be remembered separately. Ideally, the path would be remembered for each export format, e.g. C:\My Pictures\SVG, C:\My Pictures\EPS, C:\My Pictures\PNG etc., while the File Open path would remain whatever was last used to open a file.
  8. Is there a convert path to selection option anywhere? A paths palette would be great.
  9. Can the process be reversed? Once a path/shape is converted for text is it possible to release the text to be regular text again? Thanks.
  10. Vector Graphic (Portrait): a wire mesh (wireframe), and also ... a picture ;) http://b-bertuleit.de/cate-the-cat/
  11. Hi guys...quick question for those with experience with text on a path. I am familiar with how to place text on a path but I don't know how to adjust the starting point of the text. In the past, I have done text on a path in a circle for a couple logos and if it started in an odd location, I would just rotate the text until it was correct. Now I am placing text on a path but not in a circle and I can't figure out how to adjust the starting point. If I rotate the text like I did with a circle it no longer follows the shape. Thanks in advance! Chad
  12. I have several object that I have tried to release the compound paths. In this case I want the inner hole release from the ouster path. However the command to do so is always greyed out. And the create compounds does nothing, but hide the inner object. Release-compound-path.afdesign
  13. All of my paths are getting converted to shapes when exporting. I've tried PDF, SVG and EPS. On top of that the shapes that are created have thousands of points which is terrible for web. Is anyone else experiencing the same or have a workaround?
  14. Hello, today it would be great if someone can tell me how to fill a polygon path (it looks like a cloud) with a hatching? I only need simple uniform stripes (alternating black and white coloured) within this polygon, but I can´t find how to generate them. (If there is also a possibility to adjust the width of the stripes: I´m interested in the solution. For me it is sufficient if all stripes have the same width.) I would be very thankful if someone could give me a detailed description as my experience with Affinity design is quite low. Thanks in advance! Best, sandfraeulein
  15. Hello, I´m new here and I would like to know if there is a possibility to merge a path (line)? And if on the other hand it is possible to divide a path (line) into 2 or more pathes? I think in Illustrator there is a scissors, but I can´t find anything similar in Affinity desgn. It would be really great if somenone can help me...! Thanks in advance und my best regards, sandfraeulein
  16. Hello, I'm really interested in Affinity Designer, but the one thing holding me back is that I'm not sure if it has something similar to Adobe Illustrator's "Shape Builder Tool" the one that lets you manually combine shapes together or delete parts of them, I hope there is one.
  17. Hello, Can anyone show me how to cut a path in half? I could not find any ways and I'm on deadline now. Thanks a lot,
  18. There is a feature that I use regularly in freehand and illustrator and is able to make a path already double the time to increase positively or negatively. is often used to outline objects, texts etc ... in freehand in one step, and then you do conseguias marcabas a negative or positive value and the path is towards outward or inward. Can you do this in AD? as? Is there a control panel that efforts pictures we have in the document? if they are embedded, if they are RGB or CMYK etc ... Thanks.
  19. Hi, I know you're trying to keep this limited to Affinity Photo but it's the one feature AD is lacking for me. I work designing websites for e-commerce and I often need to cut out product images from white backgrounds. The work isn't complicated enough to require a dedicated piece of photo software like AP so I'm not going to spend an additional 40 quid for it. I'd like to see it added to AD. This feature is literally the last thing that's keeping me from removing Photoshop completely from my mac. Thanks
  20. Okay so after much googling I cannot for the life of me locate the context menu. I want to convert a path to a selection. This is a little frustrating. I've attached a screen cap of my workspace. I think its the menu that comes up in the top giving contextual information about the tool I currently have selected. Bu I cannot find a convert to selection option in it for the pen tool. Is it somewhere else, or do I need to covert the path to curves? UPDATE: Okay so I found it, if you have the node selection tool active it doesn't so up. But if you have the pen tool it is visible.
  21. Say I want a section of the black oval to overlap the blue. What's the best way to go about this in designer? I guess I'm looking for something similar to illustrator's shape builder tool.
  22. Hi, I've finished my first drawing. It was great time to discover AD freehand drawing tools for me. I try to utilize AD as freehand drawing app. I love vector and raster mixing in one place. I've started with sketchbook photo and raster brushes to make composition sketch. Next part was vector drawing with Pen, Pencil and Brush. I think Pen tool is great and intuitive but freehand drawing was very painful for me and I here are my freehand drawing improvements. 1. It would be great to have something like Clean tool. It can be something like brush but with size and tolerance option. When you draw a path with Pencil or Brush it has more points when needed. Clean tool can help reduce points with given tolerance and path is clean and simple. Great inspiration is here 2. I think Pencil and Brush need redraw option. I mean, when path is active user can draw over and change it. It is very frustrating to draw part of image as one path, next part as next path etc. and connect them into one shape. 3. Because I can't clean or redraw my paths on the fly (1 & 2), I've tried to use brush, draw my shape, expand strokes and add them. It works but shape has so many points (it seems brush path is made from circles) and you can't use Pen to make quick changes. First you need to clean shape but it takes more time than drawing new one. I think expand stroke should give shape with needed points only. 4. It would be great to have vector eraser too. Sometimes it is fast and easy to erase part of shape. Best, Greg
  23. Hi folks, I have created a path from six cloned paths to form something like six-sided puzzle-piece (see attachment) Now I want to fill this puzzle-piece but it only fills out the 'tounges' of the piece and not everything that is surrounded by the path. I am sure this behaviour has something to do with the way I created the puzzle-piece - in combining multiple simple not-closed paths into a single closed path. But how do I get my path to be handled as a closed path and be filled like the way I want it to be filled? Thanx in advance Rasmus Streckenteile_cut.svg
  24. I create a path with the path tool, then I change the path to a selection. How can I render / change the selection to a blurred line? The selection is first always sharp… Thanks for any help :)
  25. Hi, I am new here and bought the Affinity Designer two days ago :) Using Text on a path in Affinity Designer, I have this result: Ok. In this case I can use the text on a path inside the circle and outside. Ok, I want outside. Done. Just great but I have now a problem!! Problem: I need the words "rbfigueira.com"be inverted to be readable. I need that the "R" start on left and not in right. I need that we can read "rbfigueira.com" from left to right and not from right to left. - How to invert the text (typing) ? Note: I think we should have one other big important way to do the alignment. In this case I am using one circle path. In this case I can align the text inside or outside of the circle ... is the same of saying that I am alignment the text from bottom or top of the text. Will be better to have the possibility to align using in center of the text and not only (top or bottom) !! In that case the path will be exactly in the center of each letter and not align in top or bottom but in center. The spaces and curve will be more perfect. Is that possible using this version ? Thanks Best regards, Ricardo Figueira
